Petsafe Martingale Dog Collar For Sale (2024 Update)

The functional design of this collar is beyond superior. However, it also has a feature (or lack thereof depending on how you look at it) that is extremely important to me that most people likely don't think about…..the amount of metal that comes in contact with my dog. You see, I live in AZ where the heat is extreme four months a year, even in the shade. When you can't wear sandals or sunglasses with any metal design features, hanging earrings that may brush your neck, and are always conscience of how close your bare leg is to those keys hanging from the ignition…….one thinks twice about what one puts around the beloved pet's neck (and paws). I don't know if minimal metal contact was a consideration during the design process or just a happy 'who da thunk', but it's made me a happy and loyal customer! -Thanks!Serina

We have used this collar on our dog since we got her over 1 year ago. Today, while she was playing with another dog, the other dog got her jaw stuck in it. Without a release latch on it, our dog was chocking. We almost lost her before. Make sure you do not use this collar when dogs are playing. We installed the in ground wire around the perimeter of our property. I have one dog that digs under our fence and one that climbs the fence. These collars keep our dogs away from the fence and keeps them from running out into the street. We have had our fence for 5 years now and only replaced the collars once because I misplaced them. Batteries need replacement every few months. I like that the dogs get a beeping warning once they are within a few feet of the perimeter and only get shocked if they cross the boundary.fldolphinmc

I have a lab / hound mix that is 11 years old and she weighs about 85lbs. We began usin this collar since April 2017 and within 3 months, one of the prongs broke off. We contacted petsafe and were told that this is an uncommon problem and that the only way this could happen is due to "rough play, hitting it against an object, over-tightening the probes, etc." I have a hard time believing our senior aged dog plays rough enough to break the prongs of a durably made product. If you have a larger / sporting breed dog, i would steer clear of this product and go with Invisible Fence or the SportDOG brand from another retailer. They seem to cater to larger / sporting breeds. We've had our fence under a year, no problems with the actual fence. We have 2 dogs on the fence, 1 is an English Mastiff and the other is a Cocker Spaniel. The Cocker Spaniel's clip/closure cracked and broke off so we had to go out and search almost an acre of property to find it. We did find it but it is a PAIN to have to go out and search for a collar that you would not expect to break. Recently our English Mastiff has been strolling off the property, she has never done that in the almost year we have had it. First think I did was check the battery and decided to be safe we would change it!! That didn't work so I decided to take off the collar and check it to make sure it worked and it does but there are certain times when it don't. I have it on the highest frequency and I'm hoping this works, I will keep you informed. But us like others are missing the clear caps that cover the button to change the frequency. I don't understand how these pieces can come off unless we take them off, this tells me that there is a malfunction in your manufacturing if we are not the only ones missing these caps!! Then to top it off, you sell these clear caps and expect us to pay for them, something doesn't seem right. If you know these clear caps come off, shouldn't you be trying to fix this issue and offer those caps or free? ​Rich T

I have two Neapolitan mastiffs. One is 190lvs and the other is 170lbs, male and female. We ha e a large property but lots of other houses around, no one has fences including us. While everybody else's dogs are tied up on chains outside, our two big dogs get to roam free along our property because of these collars. Keeps them super happy and all the other dogs are jealous! I didn't think it would work because they are so big. My male weighs as much as a human man, but they only tested at one time at each boundary line and they've never gone back.they can run full speed to our property line and they know when to stop. it doesn't matter if people walk by or other dogs go by, they don't bother with them. It's a lifesaver to be able to just let your dogs out the door when they have to go to the bathroom and let them get exercise without having to worry about driving to dog parks or taking two big dogs out on a leash!Neolove

Our dog is so happy with this collar! We have a very busy vizsla and I was worried about how the shock collar would effect his personality (he’s such an emotional dog), but after a week of training multiple times per day with the kids I don’t even have to put the shock on! Collar has been replaced twice in 6 years. Each time because the plastic housing cracks and crumbles. This replacement from Petsafe lasted ~ 16-17 months (actually less – I’ve been nursing the pieces along). This time, the o-ring groove on the INSIDE of the housing cover has popped out and literally crumbled. Not very old at all, not exposed to weather, UV, or abuse. Maybe 4th battery change since new. This style of collar works great for goods with thick necks or small heads. It helps to keep the dog from backing out of the collar or slipping off the head, and should be adjusted so it fits snug when pulled tight, but moves freely when resting on the neck. Works great for my stubborn Husky, I bought a $180 remote shock collar for stubborn dogs because he is just absolutely stubborn but bought this because we were going out of town and having someone else watching them and when he found the boundary again with the new collar he realized what it was and now stays in the yard. I love this collar. We had the normal one and our big dog broke through it every time. This made it where we had to keep him in a kennel. A friend told me about the stubborn collar and I really didn't think it would work, but it does!!! I am so glad our man can stay outside in a bigger area now. Were the regular collar wasn't enough. The stubborn collar really works. My golden retriever would run through the barrier after rabbits and deer with the regular collar on. With this one he's tried a couple times and now respects it.neari_vidmar

We had the system in place for a year or so. We have a stubborn doberman who goes nuts in storms and wants to be by our side rather than stay outside during the day. We set this up to deter the animal from scratching the door etc. At first it worked fine but the dog needed to keep the device collar on all the time or she would know it is not on, test the boundary and start scratching again. Too smart. Then then collar seemed to stop working consistently, replaced the batteries, all seemed fine. then we noticed we needed to replace the batteries far more frequently. then nothing worked. during this time period, the dogs play and run and the collars get trashed. The flimsy plastic collar feed through broke on all the collars, so resorted to duct tape. Eventually it was a mess because the collars stopped working all together. The contacts failed, etc. A more durable collar and more reliable electronics would be a welcome addition to this product…or a less stubborn dog. We have two curious cats who are quite intrigued with the idea of using the doggie door because they see their Great Pyrenees friend go in and out. Outdoors is not a safe place to be, unsupervised. These collars and the sensor disk are lifesavers. Literally.jomama50

It is simple and easy to get started. Distance is accurate. If puppy/ dog has thick fur definitely have to unlock static levels. Vibrate only one level no to slight response viewd with our dog thick fur. Battery life not best, no off switch for remote, and you can only do 2 choices quickly (tone and vibrate or tone and static) only negatives. We use tone and static due to our dogs thick fur/ response.WMA6

I bought the 300 yard lite about 2 months ago for my 1 yr old Springer spaniel who is a little shy and very sensitive to corrections yet loves to bark at the neighbors. He usually stays in yard but does wander to neighbors on occasion to bark at them. Underground fencing not a good option for me so I tried this device. Wow it’s amazing! I trained him on our boundaries and recall with lots of praise and have only had to use the tone and vibration modes. The barking and preoccupation with neighbors has decreased substantially. We have had this PetSafe 300 for a couple of years now. It most definitely works in the 300 yard area. It is also very tough! It has survived several playful Corgis, and is now on a very rambunctious German Shepard. We really like the many selections you have with this trainer, from low to high. The hand held remote battery seems to last forever between charges, but the collar not so long. We seem to only get two days worth out of a charge at the most, which is why I can't give it a full 5 star rating. I would give it 4.5 starts if that was possible. Overall we would definitely buy again. We are looking to get another collar so the other can charge while one is on the rambunctiously large German Shepard puppy. I say puppy.. She's like 75lbs!!! We bought this around five months ago (give or take a few weeks) and it has worn to the point that if my puppy wears it any longer it will break. She is not too much of a puller, but she is very strong being half Alaskan Malamute. She probably weighs about 65-70lbs now at age 10m. E low rating is because I should not have to replace a woven collar after five months…it should not wear the way it did. I initially thought maybe she chewed on it but because it’s on her neck there is no possible way for that to happen, plus it’s worn ONLY where the metal touches/rubs against the collar. Bought at the beginning of summer for my 75lb rottie mix. I have always used harnesses before, however they always break because she can get so much strength from her body weight. This collar is great! Super tough duty for strong dogs. I adopted my dog unbeknown to me she has an aggression issue and tries to get at every dog she sees, this collar has given me more control. She can't slip loose, and can't get as much power to pull away from me like when using a harness. Very large D-ring will not fit a normal leash clip, you will need something larger. DO NOT GET WET. I accidentally let her in the river with this collar on and it scrunched up, collar still works great, but I am ordering a new one in case this affects the collars durability.Cassy0719

This is a well made collar, the only reason I take one star off is because it starts to fade after a few months. My dog is extremely fearful of the loud click from collars that use the plastic squeeze buckles. In addition, I cannot put a harness on her and she knows how to escape a regular collar. These martingale collars work great preventing her backing out of her collar when she gets frightened on a walk. She is a rescue and has a lot of issues, so a soft collar that slips over her head and that she cannot wriggle out of is perfect. Her trainer warned me not to keep the collar on her all the time, as it can get caught on something (like a branch) and the dog can seriously injure their windpipe as they frantically try to escape. Fortunately, the martingale design allows it to slip on and off easily.Pattismom

Our new pup now almost 1 1/2 years old, was a barking machine. Hard to control or stop. We got this hoping that would help and it has. Our dog has a LOT of fur and it was hard to get contact but when that issue was resolved we noticed the barking decreased within a day or two. When we took off the collar, there was a tendency for our dog to ramp up again but once it was back on, the excess barking stopped. The dog has now figured out, collar on, no barking. Collar off, barking some is ok. Hopefully that goes away with time. Next we need to work on whining, sigh…Mossman1

The PetSafe Bark Collar has been a tremendous help with our Australian Shepard who loved to bark at anything and everything from dusk until dawn. We put the collar on right away and it started working immediately for him. It doesn't seem to hurt him at all. I think it startled him more than anything but he is fine. We are able to take him on walks now and to the park . The kids are not scared of him anymore and we can actually talk to each other calmly without having to get frustrated trying to talk over his barking. I read all the reviews on a lot of bark collars and the PetSafe Barking Collar – PBC17-16635 by far had the best reviews. After talking with my husband we decided to purchase. Once received we read the instruction manual and did as it said but no matter what we did nothing was working. I emailed and Jason sent through a video lnk which gave us more of a clearer understanding of what to do. Upon following those instructions I cant fault it. Is this item a replacement for the RFA-577 model? The button on the training collar wore out and will not turn on the module anymore. I have gotten a solid two years out of the collar and I am very pleased with the results of responsible training for my dog. *Dominoe is a very well behaved dog and I am constantly getting compliments on his behavior. The remote is still in great shape so I'm in search of just the collar module. Thanks for any help and insight. I bought this collar about a month ago. It already doesn’t work. The on and off button does not work and I’m extremely frustrated considering the money I paid for it and had hoped to buy another set of collars and control as I have 4 dogs.TiffLy

I have owned this system for a yr and run 3 collars on it. At first it worked great 4 months in a collar stopped working it would show red light like charging but would never come on so i purchased another one 130 bucks (wow) with in weeks same thing to my other one called tech support this time they walked me theough how to turn it on (at this point i laughed at the begining of the call i stated i have had the system a year) they told me it must be broke and buy a new one. Well broke to me is nothing working but i have red light on charging and stays red for hours 8 to be exact on both of them so this is trash and do not expect help from tech support. I'm very grateful and very happy about this, since it is a very nice collar and easy to use. Here's hoping the failure of the first one was a fluke! I probably will ultimately get another one for one of the other dogs (we have 3!) once we use up all of the batteries we have. While I'm only giving three stars for the collar due to the short lifespan, I would definitely rate service at 5 stars!DigitMom

I have a pup that is a large breed, he looks like I been feeding him steak and potatoes cause he's so dang big. He is ALL puppy though. Chews on everything loves running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Been trying to train him to chill with me, yeah, right. He wants to play. And because he wants to play, he wants to run every stinkin where. Decided, for my sanity as well as his safety, I'd get this thing. Put the flags out, set it on a low static charge, and it didn't take long before he figured it out. You DO have to WORK a dog with this. It's not just a plug it up and watch their hair shoot up when they get popped. Walked him around the perimeter for 7 days, he sees and sniffs the flags. After that, I let him run around, and he got popped maybe 3 times, and figured it out. Now he's pretty dang happy, and I can let him rip around with zoomies while I work in the yard. I have a 2 yr old LARGE French Mastiff that weighs 180ish! I bought with the (red in color) “stubborn” collar. We previously installed a wired underground fence. (Which I have to mention took 2 FULL DAYS TO INSTALL AND READY TO USE!!) My Bo would realize he was close to the boundary, take a step or two back then take a run right through it, with no second thought!!! We watched him do this several times. I guess he was thinking, well this is going to hurt but only for a few short seconds. Idk?? But it did NOT phase him one bit! I had talked to 4 or 5 people that had this system, so reluctantly I decided to give it a try. I thought to myself well if it doesn’t work I will simply return it, no harm no foul. My boyfriend had it installed and collar on Bo in 30 mins flat. We walked ole hard-headed Bo around maybe 4 times to show him the boundaries. Once he heard the beeping, he kept walking then he felt the shock 1 time and that must have been enough because he never ventured close again! It has been about 2 months of use and I would give it 100 STARS IF IT WAS AN OPTION! We live in a subdivision where houses are fairly close. I was ultimately worried that the zone would lead into the neighboring yard. (which was the #1 thing we are trying to prevent) And although it may, Bo doesn’t even attempt to go that far. I believe he now understands to stay in his own yard! Living in a subdivision, many people take walks and Bo just sits and watches them now!! Matter of fact, just to see, we have sent him outside WITHOUT the collar and ironically enough HE STAYS IN OUR YARD!! The ONLY complaint I have is the small clear piece on the collar broke off the first time I went to adjust the strength of the shock. So far it hasn’t effected anything so fingers crossed on that! Just an FYI, we set ours on a level 3 to begin with and my boyfriend was ready to give up, so I told him to have some patience and we just kept adjusting the level on the collar and we ended up discovering for Bo he needed to be set on a #6. Again, I repeat he weighs 180 lbs, and the Mastiff bread is KNOWN for their stubbornness. I would suggest starting at the lowest level for a smaller dog PLEASE! But, if you are hesitant as myself, about this system just give it a try AND I PROMISE YOU WILL BE SO SURPRISED!!!!! I love this system, and just hope that it lasts!!!!!!Owner of French Mastiff

I liked the idea of a collar with vibration and sound versus shock or static. Didn't want to hurt my dog, just wanted to get his attention. The vibration works the best on mine, he learned within a day or two that when I called his name, I wanted him to come to me. In fact, it worked so well that I no longer need the collar for the negative behavior he displayed when I first bought it. And that's a darned good thing because an updated to the app in late April this year (changed from one app to another, forced not by choice) has rendered the collar worthless. The app itself is impossible to connect to the collar 99% of the time. If I was buying a collar again, I'd buy the same collar but would NOT opt for the phone app. I'd get it with a remote. The collar works, you won't hurt your pup, (don't use the static!) and the end result is the exclusion of negative behavior. Just be sure you don't get the one with the phone app.Mimi2Six

I literally just bought this yesterday! It is such a waste of money. The fact that it disconnects so much, and takes forever to reconnect to the collar is a terrible feature. How are you supposed to train a dog when you spend more time “connecting” to the collar. What a waste of $94. I’ve always been hesitant because I always thought that the smart colors shock the dog but I do enjoy the vibration aspect of it because it’s not harmful to my baby. It’s helping me control behaviors like staying off of the furniture and not pulling on the leash and within the short time we’ve use it I can already see you a little bit of improvement on his behavior in these areas. He will walk next to the couch but will not get on it he’ll lay in front of it which is what we wanted. And he’s also stopped tugging at the leash on walks. I am definitely Happy with this product. I also like that you can control the level of the vibration on the collar. So what we did was we gradually increase the intensity of the vibration until we knew that he could fill it we know that it would probably be a pretty high because he does have thick for him but it startles him it doesn’t it doesn’t hurt him and that’s what’s most important. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who’s wanting to train their dogs in the humane way with physical reinforcement without harming their pet.Lorielnj

I learned about these collars in 2004, after I lost a puppy to a collar strangulation accident. I only wish I had known then what I know now. I have purchased many of these collars over the years and give them away to friends. Sometimes I will come home from work and find a collar in the yard and I know that collar just saved a life! One time I did find a collar-less dog at home and the ID tag on his breakaway collar was firmly wedged between 2 boards on my deck. That time I know that his life was saved by his breakaway collar. I am a true believer in these collars and a very strong advocate for them and for your company. When the dogs and I go out, they will wear harnesses with their leashes, but I have also walked them with the leash attached to both rings on the collar and they work just fine. I bought this caller after reading the story about Chinook the dog that died from choking on his collar. I immediately ordered this may be about a month ago. Yesterday we were at our big dog park in my 60 pound white mix Lily was playing with her same size Shepherd who likes to chew on collars and harnesses on her neck. He got his teeth stuck and the collar broke away just like it is supposed to. And thank goodness because they were really rough playing. I would recommend it. I have three dachshunds. Before these collars were purchased, two of them were playing, when the lower teeth of one of them became intangibles in the other's collar. Both of them were trying to pull away and the dog was choking. She let out a squeal like I've never heard before. I was able to separate the two, but there was blood in her eyes. It was after hours, so we had to drive her to a 24-hour vet clinic an hour's drive away. She was okay, but after purchasing three of these collars, it has never been an issue again. Since we have a fenced in back yard, the collars work well. I have found one of them lying outside, but better to have a healthy dog that is safe from choking. If you have dogs that run loose, this could be an issue, but not for us. We're getting ready to purchase three replacements for all three of our doxies.
