This is actually my second Vibrant Life heavyweight crock pet bowl. I have been providing drinking water in my kitchen for my dog in the first one I got about a year ago. The bowl arrived in a nice box, well packaged. It is in fact a giant bowl. It comes with extenders to set it up higher also. It says it holds 2.5 gallons of water, and appears to be sturdy enough to do the job of holding all that water. I have not tried it out yet. I found the description to be a bit unhelpful in describing the actual size of this bowl when I chose it. It is actually a bit larger than I anticipated, and I don't recall any mention about the capacity of the bowl when I chose it, but it may have said so. I have 2 large dogs and often dog-sit for some of my family members (so sometimes there are 3 big dogs running around my house instead of just 2). I've wanted something like this for a year or more, but now that I have it, I'm not super impressed. Its easy to set up, but the taller you have it, the less sturdy it seems. I can't take it to the sink to fill because the plastic shifts in my hands and it feels I'm going to drop it or break it. This means multiple trips carrying water from the sink to the bowl. This also means I'll be less likely to remember to wash the bowl daily if I'm not bringing it to the sink. After one day, there was already a bunch of dirt left in the bottom of the bowl from my dogs getting drinks after coming in from the back yard. First of all, I got TWO for under $10 (total with shipping). Also, in the store, I trually believe these would easily cost at least $15-$20 EACH – maybe more. We are very happy with them, they are not cheaply made either. If I had a criticism, and this is not a complaint, but the non-skid is not as good as I was hoping. Part of the problem is the edges are curved and the dog will push it agaist the wall. Being plastic, they are not very heavy, so very few skids will work. But the skid protection on them is pretty good (but not amazing). Maybe a 7 out of 10. Everything else is a 10 on them. As far as slowing them down, our dogs will still still eat faily fast, but it is much better. Also, we bought large bowls and we have medium sized dogs (50-55lb), but the small were too small … so went with medium. They are the right size in my opinion. If I had more money, I do believe the metal ones may be heavier and skid less, but they are $25-$35 each and I just could not afford that for two dogs. So we love these and they should last for years (easy, very well made). They are not thin or flimsy and the grip on the bottom is not going to fall off easiily. Also, shipping was very fast ship. I bought this bowl for my 8 week puppy because he will just swallow his food down in seconds. I noticed that after every meal he would be bloated from all the air he swallowed. It scared me so I started looking oinline for solutions and the best one I rounds was the slow feeding bowl. I looked in many places and at about 20 different bowls and by the ratings and the great price I decided to go with this bowl and see if it would work. The first few days he hated it and would cry because he wasn't able to gobble down his food. After a few days he got the idea of how to do it and now it takes him about 10 minutes to finish his food instead of a 10 seconds. It's a great bowl but there is also a downside to it. The black plastic around the edges is soft and easy for a puppy to chew on and bite some pieces off and eat them. My puppy already bit some pieces of so I have to keep an eye on him while he eats. I am using this for a 75 lb doberman. It is a good height for her and it's nice to have her food and water together. She can be messy at times and this is easy to wipe clean. The bowls go in and out easily, but what I have done is place her old food bowl inside the stainless steel one. It is smaller in diameter and fits right inside the one that came with the feeder. It has the added advantage of catching additional spills. My only complaint would be that the feeder is light weight and can be easily scooted around on a tile floor. I bought 2, thinking they would be perfect for my feral cats as their wet food gets covered in flies in the summer – sadly the lids keep closing even when the poor cats are standing right in front eating! I've tried removing the batteries in the hope that this might reset them, but it has made no difference – after a short period of time the lids close automatically, even when the cats are standing in front eating.sgib5284
The concept of this bowl is excellent and it's excution good. Instructions are clear and packaging neat. It is only plastic so not brilliant value for money. The quality is better than most. (Rather binary answer choices are not helpful in providing a proper review.) My cat took to it easily. An improvement would be space for an ice pack underneath the dish. An option for a second dish at a reduced price purchased at the same time would provide additional value.maestrohealth
If you feed your pets wet food and they are slow-eaters (eat a little now and a little later), this is a must-have item. The lid opens automatically when my cat approaches and closes again when he leaves. So it really does prevent wet food from drying out. It is amazing. I used to throw away left-over canned food. I love this feeder! When our Basset was younger, he had a companion and she would clean up his face after he drank from his dish. She passed on at 13 and he was left on his own. After he drinks, the contents of his water dish have become almost a jello-like substance~~a petrol 30/weight concoction which lands on the kitchen floor. Plus, prior to buying this feeder his ears wound up in both the water and food dishes. Yuck! This feeder has almost completely conquered this problem. I worried that the dishes in the feeder were too close together and food would wind up in the water dish but this didn't happen. The placement of the dishes seems to prevent his ears from landing in the dishes too. Another bonus is that no food and water lands on the floor keeping the sweeping and mopping by the feeder to a minimum. I love this thing! I did get it on sale on Black Friday and got a fabulous price but it's worth the full price. It's easy to clean, attractive, and keeps things neat. What more could you ask?!Zagnut9
Neater Feeder has been great for my large 60 pound lab/pyrenees mix. He's very tall and needed something higher off the ground than a standard feeding bowl. Because of his size, my dog is also a bit clumsy so this feeding setup catches the splashes from the water bowl and the food flying out of his food bowl. I ordered the neater feeder Express in cappuccino for my German Shepherd. I needed a system that would keep the water off the floor as we recently had travertine floors with large grout lines placed in our home. This definitely does the trick and is keeping all but a few drops off of the floor! It is up off of the ground so any drops dry quickly and easily and most of the water is contained in the catch tray. I should note that the only drops that land on the floor are the ones that fall off of her face. She is no longer able to flip her bowls over and all food stays in the neater feeder! I purchased 2 of the smaller raised 2.5 cup slow feeders, which is recommended for cats per the FAQ and listing, for my 2 cats. They will only eat if there is significant volume of food within the feeder, but will not eat if there is a small amount between the feeder elevations. My guess is that the elevations on the feeder are too tall and is touching their whiskers. Seems counter-productive to add more than necessary food in order to entice them to eat when this device is supposed to slow down their eating. Seems promising but wasteful. Both of my cats are large, one being a maine coon.
10/10 recommend!! My dog Forrest is a Great Pyrenees/Australian shepherd mix. He’s only 9 months old and he’s already 65+lbs. Since I first got him, we’ve had trouble with fast eating. I started my buying a simple slow feeder from Walmart, which worked for a bit. But as he grew, Forrest started regurgitating food after almost ever meal. After some research, I discovered this was from eating too fast and eating with his bowl on the floor. The article I was reading had a link for the Neater Slow feeder with the option height raiser. It is made out of high quality hard safe plastic and it had rubber stoppers on the bottom to keep it from sliding around. These Pappy Bowls are great. I bought a large one for water outside the house. I also bought two medium sized bowls – one for drinking and one for food (inside the house). The handle makes it easy to pick up the bowl. The quality of the product seems very good but I have only owned they for a few day (time will tell). Best of all the bowls can't rust like my old bowls did because the united pets pappy bowls are made of polypropylene/plastic and they are BPA free. The large/medium size was a suitable size for my Labrador Retriever.Maria
