Large Outdoor Dog Pens For Sale (2024 Update)

My active Doberman is recovering from a spinal injury and needs to be confined. This pen is perfect. The quality is top-notch, with plenty of clear and illustrated instructions that are really not even necessary as it's so simple to set up. My one and only quibble is that the box opened nearly the full length of the side during shipping. I think the packing tape gave way. All parts were intact and nothing was damaged so just FYI. I'm now going to buy another one of these for the back yard. I was going to transport this one in and out rather than spend the money since it's (I'm hoping) not a life-long need, but while it's so easy to fold and move, it is pretty heavyweight (42") so it'd be a bit of a chore for me to do often. She's never been a jumper, especially not now, and I don't leave her alone outside so I could easily go with a lower height that's less expensive and more portable (keep in the shade) for the yard.jacy

I ordered several of these to use as barriers to prevent my young Border Collie from running through the mud in our back yard after it rains. I set them up just off the patio several feet to allow him some space in the grass without giving him free reign of the whole yard to run through. They are very easy to set up, take down, and store! The quality is excellent – the panels are very sturdy, the clips are easy to use, and the pins to anchor them in the ground are a great length and weight. I could not be happier with this purchase! They are exactly what I needed and can easily be used for other containment configurations.J LaRue

I bought this exercise pen. It was a really good price. I had shopped around and believe you me. It was the cheapest. However it is huge for the tiny puppy that we have in it! I am currently using it indoors. But it does come with u-pegs to help secure it to the ground for outdoor use. I love it!Nathalie

Ordered 2 different kennels. One missing door. Other one missing all the hardware. Saves money if you know what you are doing. Worked fine for me. Dad is pretty clever. Would not recommend for anything strong.tanyaal

The lack of specs on the product description was unfortunate. Compared to other kennels of the same cost, it’s smaller, which is also unfortunate- I compared by cost and height to hopefully get what I believed would be a 10×15 or 10×10 (again, no specs so I was going with a similar product for the same cost and hoping theyd be the same size). Based on the pictures without measurements, it LOOKED like MAYBE it was what I was looking for. Sadly, it’s smaller, but not so small that I can’t make it work. Cheaper quality fencing and poles but only wanted to add on to my existing kennel. I was short approx. 5' of fencing. This isn't the first kennel I've constructed (so I know what I am doing). I bought the medium sized kennel for my Shih Tzu. The size is perfect with plenty of room for him to play. The kennel is sturdy with an easy to operate door. The total time to assemble this kennel was about (1) hour (my husband put it together by himself). You will need something to cut the excess wire (the screws on the door need to be cut back before you can cap them off and the wires that connect the fence to the structure need to be twisted and trimmed to avoid injury). The sunshade DOES NOT cover the entire kennel. which I knew about from other reviews. I left the 2 inch gap near the door so I can stick my arm into the kennel and pet my dog while I walk by. This was simple to assemble, and sturdy. The only issues were small: two spots in the chain link fence, the wires didn't weave correctly so there were holes; and the locking mechanism on the gate is very cheap. I don't think I will use the gate mechanism because my dog could easily push it up and open the gate. All things considered, I recommend this kennel to someone who wants decent quality, and wants to save some money.Austin

I purchased the 4X6X4 Chain Link Kennel for my Flat Coated Retriever. I received it on the day it was supposed to arrive. It was packaged well. All the pieces parts were there and it is a very easy to assemble product. Myself and a friend actually had it assembled in 1/2 hour with the exception of the ties to secure the fencing. I took my time with those. *I am 67 and my friend is 68 two women* Instructions were clear and it really was a joy to put together.Jean

Extremely disappointed. Did not come with the parts package. Nobody will answer the phone or call back for Walmart or me to have the parts package sent to me. Now I have to send back the parts I did get and I will not get my refund until they receive the parts back. Save yourself the headache and order from somewhere else.kayla

I love Hayneedle, but the company that made this fence should have sent instructions; and the gate should have been assembled instead of coming in different strands of wire. We never did get it together, the wires were different sizes and bent. We finally made our on wire to put on the gate. Hayneedle was very understanding about the way we received this product.Ruby

Overall good product that meets the needs of our pup. It is helpful to have more then two people to apply the chain link to the frame. Also the wire pieces provided to secure the chainlink to the frame are a heavy gauge wire, very hard to bend. We used heavy zip ties , made the job much easier /faster.SRS7503

The picture is very false. Expected it to be in panels to put together. EZ it says EZ it's not. Came in pieces including having to put frame together then wrap chain link around like putting a fence up. So it is not EZ when there is one person and a 10x 10×5 comes in a 5 by 15×12 inch box. Very, very disappointed. To return I would have to pay for $50-$100 shipping. Had to paid someone to put together. Very deceiving. Would never recommend.Linda

I like Midwest products as the metal seems to be stronger and last longer than other brands. I have the original ex-pen I bought around 1995 – it's survived 50+ large dogs. I prefer them to crates as the dogs have more room to move around, yet they are easily configured to a smaller shape when potty training. They easier to clean than crates. They fold flat and I can store them next to a fridge or behind a furnace. They work indoors/out and are great mobile containment. For dogs living in fenceless areas (condos) ex-pens can be linked using carabiners/bolt snaps (i.e., dog leash clips) for fencing moveable for mowing/snow removal. They are great for patio surrounds. You can buy metal tops for if a dog needs more containment, but most won't if using a tall enough ex-pen. I've also bought just the metal or plastic crate pans to put under the ex-pen if needed. To keep the ex-pen from falling or being moved if I have a rambunctious pup I bungee the corners to furniture or door knobs.HannahB

This is perfect for my purpose. I needed a tall fence outside to keep my dogs out of a certain area. The 16 foot length is perfect. My dogs are pretty respectful of fences, so I didn't need anything heavy duty. It isn't clear from the picture nor the description, but there is a door. I have it upside down on purpose so that I can walk through instead of crawl through the opening. This was a much cheaper option than anything for the garden, and much taller than any garden fencing.HappyDogMom

Good product. It is a little lightweight, but I zip tied it to a table and it keeps my dog from pushing it over. My dog weights about 43 pounds. It works well while I'm here to monitor her. I have to lock her in her kennel when I leave. Overall I am happy with my purchase.Maggie

I purchased this product to put my new puppy in for short periods of time when I needed to do something. It was so flimsy my 3.5 lb puppy was able to drag it all over and my adult daughter bent over to pick him up barely touching the fence and it caved in with her falling hard to the floor just missing the pup. So for my particular purpose it did not work. Its a great idea and Im sure would work for another idea but I would not recommend for puppies or any dogs to be placed in this fence.Tina

Got this for a large dog to recover from surgery. Not as strong as a large welded wire portable kennel. It does allow more room to stretch out than the large portable kennel. If your animal needs room to move around, this may be a good kennel. Not super sturdy. Walls will moved out since they are connected with brackets (two each panel). May not be escape proof. No attached floor. Fitted tarp cover is nice. There are no cheap kennels out there. This one was priced okay and shipped free to my door. It was packaged well.CheapTX Guy

This is an extremely sturdy kennel and of high quality. Very easy to assemble. I assembled it myself and completely finished it took me about an hour and a half. The only downside is this kennel doesn't come with anchors that go in the ground to give it that extra firm support, however it doesn't appear to need it, as the kennel is extremely sturdy without them. It's a good size, but the instruction that came with it wasn't helpful at all. I ended using zip ties to secure the fence section alongside the door latch. The rubber rolls that came with it were quite useless. My pup could easily get them off. I recommend you purchase the life touch one instead.K

Our puppy is able to undo the plastic rings holding the gate panels closed and escape. (I'm sure it's more of our puppy being too crafty than any fault of the product.)Kelsey

This is perfect as a catio as well. My cats love the outdoors but it's not safe for them so I bought this. I added a soft net on top as a rooftop. This is spacious enough to add obstacles and perches as well. My cats jump into this from the window and can enter the house whenever they want. ….and that is EXACTLY what I would do, if this dog EVER slept. So far, this kennel has saved 4 lives, by providing my partner and I a safe place where our new "rescue" pup can run and play off some of his excess energy, without driving us insane. Also, our little Cocker Spaniel, who is a very dignified (and sedate) 11+ years old, just wants absolutely NOTHING to do with the new pup. N-O-T-H-I-N-G!! Which means, naturally, the pup just thinks the Cocker is his personal chew toy!! So yes, the kennel is great, the materials are of good quality, it is very sturdy, and I especially love the fact that it can be moved to different areas of the yard so the grass doesn't get killed off from the pup's potty in one spot consistently. This was a great deal for the money, and yes, I plan on buying at least one more, maybe two, depending on how huge the pup grows.SophiaL

The nuts on this product are welded and the preset screws are soft and in very tight. This made it difficult to get the screws out without stripping them. I also had problems getting one of the pipes to slide into the other because there was a small piece of metal sticking down inside the pipe. I spent about an hour trying to file that down so i could finish the assembly. So what should have taken maybe two hours, turned into a four hour project. Aside from the horrors of putting the kennel together, it serves it's purpose for my 22 lb dog. I don't know how it will withstand the weather because I've only had it two weeks. It wasn't worth $157 in my opinion.Lola

This kennel is pretty flimsy and won’t hold a large dog that is determined to get out. I used my own tie wire because the ties that were included were a joke. Luckily I only need it for my rabbits and after I made my own gate latch and blocked off the space under the gate it was great for them. I definitely wouldn’t use it for a large dog but it would probably be fine for smaller ones.Customer7373728

Because the size I actually wanted was not in stock, I had to compromise and get a slightly taller pen. The metal is a little flimsy compared to pens I have purchased in the past. However, I assume this is because it is taller and they want to keep the product at a manageable weight. Other than that, this is working just fine for our new puppy and our hope is for it to last for many years to come like our last one. (The last one was lent out to someone and not returned.) I was surprised by the simplicity & happy there was no heavy assembly required. My fav thing about this pen is how tall it is & the different ways you can set it up! Rectangle, circle, square or use it as a wall or fence to keep our puppy on one side of the yard. The versatility of this pen & the fact that it is indoor/outdoor really works better for me than a crate. I also love that it is portable! I am using this pen for training a puppy but also plan on using it when she is full grown. Really good for the price! Love it.Jesseee

My wife and I purchased this affordable product as a way to curtail a new litter of kittens before they became active and began exploring their new world. The package arrived quickly and essentially there was no assembly required. The only minor modification we had to undertake was adding a six inch piece of cardboard to the bottom by using tie-wraps to prevent the small kittens from sticking their heads through the 4” gaps of the fencing. We especially liked the ability to shape the enclosure in any manner we desired as the mother and her kittens are sharing our garage with our Camaro in our garage. we just installed beautiful hardwood flooring . We need something to close out 4 dogs in the kitchen area for when is sleep time. This gate (we purchase 4 section) is perfect to give then space and feel comfortable . It can be move in diferent direction , can close out or use to close section. I use it for my 16 year-old Chihuahua. She is not very active and cannot see very well and I wanted to have her in a safe area. I mounted 2 panels to the walls and created sort of an L-shaped area, giving her enough space to move around. The panels not attached to the wall, are a little flimsy, don’t know if it’s because they sit on tile, not creating enough grip. I’ve used it as a play pen and they are sturdy. The set-up was very easy. I like the fact that it can be adjusted. I really recommend it, especially for the price. I’m very happy with my purchase.Veritas01

Love that’s it’s washable. I got the medium and it’s a great size. Good for in and out doors. I know some said for indoors the dogs would flip it. Which I have a 4lb puppy that does just that. But I zip the top and she uses it like a hamster ball to get around. It’s actually quite entertaining for us lol. Also with saying she’s a puppy she tends to chew.. there are a few snags in the mesh but she hasn’t managed to put any holes in it. Finger crossed. All in all it’s perfect for what I needed to to do. Got it when it was 20 bucks cheaper. But it came early and was easy to set up. Reason for purchase is becuase I will be out of state for the summer and the person whom will be babysitting doesnt want her on the sofa and using the bathroom on the floor. So I needed a easy to access playpen so they can change pad and give food. I so happen to come across this one. Was supper easy to assemble. It bigget than I expected. Lilly went in as soon as I placed her stuff in there. Playpen is bery sturdy as well. Lilly was jumping and bumping into the gate and it didnt move. Would recommend.Domonique

I have two mischievous dogs who love to get in to trouble while I’m at work. So much so that I decided to get them this play pen. Well, I’m happy to say that this play pen has helped me manage their mischief. The pen is spacious, sturdy, and much prettier to look at than other play pens I have had in the past. I have to say I love love love this doggy pen. My lil Roxyroo had puppies. Since my dog is only 9lbs, this was the perfect size for her and the puppies. Strong construction, easy to put together. The door works well when Roxy wanted out of the pen, without having to lift her out. The puppies were able to roll around, without getting out. This 4 panel pet playpen is wonderful. I needed something to use for my dogs while at my parents home and this worked great! It's not hard to put together, it's very easy to move around, and although I have a 90lb dog he's a bit older so he doesn't try to chew anything, dig under, etc so it was perfect!Shirley D

This is a good product, simple to assemble and works as advertised for our 5 pound terrier. Went for the large so there is room for a bed and a wee mat. Product is bulky to ship and came damaged and missing the connectors to hold it together. I solved the problem with cable ties until the vendor shipped me the connectors. They responded well to the issue and shipped me the missing bits. It doesn't have a lid and I didn't want one, but we do put 2 large beach towels over it at night to make it quieter and darker. Our dog is happy with it too 🙂CHARLES

I ordered this pet pen because I desperately needed something for my puppy to keep her safe while I’m busy doing things at home. I loved how it looked online. Spacious and modern & loved that it was metal bars and not plastic. BUT, once it arrived, the package was damaged. Once I opened it, I noticed all the hardware to put it together was missing. And the floor tray was cracked in a corner. I was so upset because I needed to use this ASAP! The plastic tray is very flimsy as well. Expected a lot more for the price!Ange1086

We bought this pen for our rabbit and it arrived in a box torn in multiple places and the pieces were sticking out. It also did not come with any instructions or dowel-type things to insert in the corners so it falls over with a light touch. It also has a scratch on the side and a bent rod. We can’t return it as the box arrived ruined and it is far too heavy to carry to a store. We are probably just gonna find something to fill the corners but it is saddening that this cost almost 300$. We were so excited as this had great reviews but it was very disappointing 🙁EM

Good quality heavy duty cage for my Doberman puppy. The chewed the wires off the regular cage. Only concern is the tray goes under the metal grate at the bottom of the cage. Not good at all. He got his foot pad/toe caught in it. Also his collar caught in it. I forced the tray to go into the cage on top of the grate. Problem solved. Need to have an option of where to put it. Would recommend with supervision of your dog. No collars on when grate is not covered. Good tough cage. Neighbor bought same fir her bull dog puppy same age as my dobie. She likes it also. *The price was very reasonable and the size/construction was surprisingly sturdy. *As an added bonus, our cage has a side door that wasn't advertised. We almost didn't purchase this one since it appeared to only have the one door at the end. But our cage has a second door that swings out from the side panel. *We have always taken small (4" size) zip ties and secured the corners of our cages to provide added strength – in case dogs paw at the cage. I would still recommend zip ties although the cage seems to snap in place tightly. Of course, if you frequently fold down the cage, replacing zip ties can become cumbersome. *The plastic pan on the bottom is thinner than our last cage, but our dogs have not chewed or scratched at them previously, so this won't be a problem for us. *The carrying handle appears strong enough to lift the empty cage and will be useful. *Upper and lower slide latches are provided on each door. All latches have a rod bent at the end to help secure the latch. In the past, our dogs learned to shake the door until the latch slid over but this new design prevents the latch from sliding open.KYMom

I bought one of these and liked it so much that I just purchased another one. Both are the 42 inch size.I have 2 older 42 inch similar type kennels but they are a different brand and I paid a lot more for them. I think that the BestPet brand wire pet cage/crate/kennels are just as good as the more expensive ones that I have. In fact I was able to purchase two of the BestPet kennels for what I paid for one of the older kennels I have. I like the latches on the Best Pet kennels. They have a little "crook" on the end that prevents the latch from sliding open accidently. But it is easy for a human to open and close. I am an older woman and the kennels are easy for me to move around to the areas I desire to put them. They are sturdy, but easy to handle,and have the plastic slide out tray at the bottom for easy cleaning, I was unsure about this Brand at first because the price was so GOOD that I figured something had to be flawed with this kennel but I was very wrong. I do think it is a good idea to buy a couple of extra plastic trays or if you are crafty cut a piece of heavy duty plastic to have on hand when you change out a tray for cleaning. Plastic is just plastic so a heavy dog could cause damage to the tray .But the trays I got with my kennels are not flimsy at all. The kennel comes with a plastic handle that can be attached at the top. I live in a rural and at night the coyotes and other undesirable critters come out and I have had problems with Tom cats just mauling my young cats. So now I can put my kittens or young cats and puppies in kennels at night and I don't have to worry and fret about what is happening in the dark to them. Also, this will save me money in Vet bills. The cost of just one of the large kennels is about the cost of an office visit to the vet so I am very pleased to wake up each day and know that all of my "babies" are safe and happy. Included with the kennel is a wire divider that can be put in the kennel so you can keep pets separated from each other. I had one particular cat that had an injury that seemed to outsmart me and escape from any cage I tried to keep her in. She can't get out of this Best Pet kennel. I will buy a couple more of the 42 inch size kennels to have on hand because the price and quality is so great and I plan to buy a couple of the smaller wire ones to transport cats and pups to the vet in. I find the plastic cat carriers to be attractive but not so practical when you have a heavy cat or a "wild" cat or unhappy dog that needs an injection from the vet before it can be removed from the carrier to be tended to. These kennels come with a very fair 3 month Limited Warranty. (Send in the Warranty Card !!)
