There is no safer collar than Premier's Martingale to use on new dogs in our rescue or for dogs going on a transport. I will not ship a dog on any transport without this collar. Traveling is stressful, even going to the vet is stressful for a country dog who finds itself in traffic after a ride in a strange vehicle. Regular collars often slip off the necks and heads of a frantic dog. This collar will not! When I get in new strays who don't have a clue what a collar is I can't risk them getting loose. Again, I depend on this collar for control and for the dog's safety. When I taught dog obedience in the Public sector, the Martingale and the Gentle Leader were the collars I sold to my students and they quickly had their dogs in control and training was swift while the dogs' neck's were protected. I have used the Premier Martingale since 2000. It is my basic collar of choice. Regular collars: I don't feel safe using them.
The functional design of this collar is beyond superior. However, it also has a feature (or lack thereof depending on how you look at it) that is extremely important to me that most people likely don't think about…..the amount of metal that comes in contact with my dog. You see, I live in AZ where the heat is extreme four months a year, even in the shade. When you can't wear sandals or sunglasses with any metal design features, hanging earrings that may brush your neck, and are always conscience of how close your bare leg is to those keys hanging from the ignition…….one thinks twice about what one puts around the beloved pet's neck (and paws). We have used this collar on our dog since we got her over 1 year ago. Today, while she was playing with another dog, the other dog got her jaw stuck in it. I bought this a few weeks ago, and finally decided to use it, I cut off the tags and pulled out the little white strip so I can actually try out the light, nothing happened. Turns out the "included batteries" are already dead. What's the point of the white strip if the batteries are dead? Anyway, glad I had the small screwdriver to unscrew the screws and replace the batteries. The color looks great when my pup's wearing it. It seems to work fine for now, but I don't plan to use the lights until the winter time when it gets dark early, so hopefully there won't be any issues that other reviewers have experienced.Humblek

This collar is no where near as wide as the photo makes it appear. My dog will have this thing broke in less then a month. Absolutely worthless collar for a large dog. They claim it is for a large dog, but, I guess they never meet my large doge. His current collar is twice as wide and at least twice as thick, is less then 9 months old and he is tearing it. That is why I ordered a new one. NEVER again. I will drive 85 plus miles one way to find a pet smart or other store that has what I need and I will shop and buy in person.larry

These are the ONLY collar I purchase for my dog. He’s an escape artist, so harnesses and regular collars have never worked out for us. I purchased one collar four years ago, and just recently purchased the same in a different color. The only reason I’m giving a 4 is because the newer collar seems slightly different… cheaper and thinner almost, and the metal clasp is fading in less than six months. I bought Spirit Bear for my beloved Apache ❤️ he wore it 14 & 1/2 yrs. It washes great and is my favorite of all the patterns Lupin has made. Apaches leash is now chewed by a puppy ????. I wish Lupine would be like scentsy a place that carries wax melts if you find a smell you like you put it in your box and they will make it for you forever or take it off your list, in other words I wish they let me keep Spitit bear on my list and they'd make it when I wanted it. I have been using Lupine collars for almost 5 years now. I have a 7 lb mini-jack and a 35 lb Aussie mix. My Aussie Ginger is pretty high energy and like to pull when on a leash. For a Christmas picture at Pet Smart, I bought my dogs these cute (Pet Smart) matching Christmas collars. Gingers broke when we were in pet smart, the first time we used it. Needless to say she was hard to catch, and almost got hit by a car when someone had opened a door. I will never use any collar but her lupine collars again!!!! We also have matching leashes and a harness. This company has the best warranty I have ever seen. Ginger chewed through her first harness bc it had been put on too loose and not removed (by a teenager) after her walk. She wanted it off so she chewed it off. I sent a pic and they replaced it in 3 days!!! If you are on the fence, just buy it!! These collars are less expensive than most, are more sturdy than most, and have the best warranty out there!! Love the quality of these collars and leashes. We have had to have some replaced to razor sharp puppy teeth with no Hassel at all!! My only complaint is that I wish the designs were available in all sizes. Our Airedale pup is named Bindi which means little girl butterfly in Aboriginal language so we had the wing it collar and leash. Now that she is getting bigger and outgrowing them I wish they had the same pattern "wing it" in the larger sizes as well! HUGE fan of these collars

I purchased this collar to go with the Garmin Pro 550. The system is of the highest quality, used by professional dog trainers who only want the best. Easy to pair with my existing transmitter and works exactly as intended. The only negative point I can make is the lack of colors. I have three hunting dogs, and my transmitter will work simultaneously with three collars. My transmitter has a color coded toggle in Red, Black and Blue to chose the dog that needs some encouragement. Buckle that holds the collar closed is cheaply made. Used it to take my dog for a walk and after a couple of pulls the collar came right apart. Put it back on and soon after the same thing happened. With the collar off the dog you can simply pull the two ends apart in your hands. This product is just for show, not for use.Jenn
While I love the look of this collar, the clasp design is very unreliable. While the outer receptacle of the claps is metal, the inside is plastic. It's very week, and the collar flies off with the slightest pull. Sometimes it flies off of my Doberman when she barks with some spirit. If the clasp was made with metal on both pieces, I suspect it would work better.Gabrielle
