I love everything about this dog pen, except that one of the panels was missing the upper hinge. I did not want the hassle and wastefulness of returning the entire large and heavy item. I tried to see if I could just get a single replacement panel, but I don't know how to do that. I guess I will just keep it and only use 7 of the panels *Sigh* (If anyone can get a single panel replacement – please let me know!) The raised gate is perfect for not rubbing on the floor and scratching it up. the panels are not too heavy I could construct the pen easily. If I could give zero stars I would. It has rusted so badly HUGE FLAKES fall off of it. Not only is it now unattractive I worry about the health of my dog. I have used this to host puppy playdates over 2 years. Cannot be happier with purchase. My front yard is not completely fenced; There was a need to fence off, but not permanently as we use front yard for other purposes. Fences are flexible, can be set up in any figures as needed. Once I figure out where to put fences, it takes 10 mins to set up, 10 mins to take down. I initially bought 2 sets, and neighbors and friends praised, and we had so many puppy visitors. That led me to buy 1 more set so the playpen could be bigger. Despite I have 3x sets, once taken down, they store nicely in small tight space on the side of house. Each set comes with 1 panel with a door. Since I have 3x sets, I have 3x panels with door. I set up door fences on three sides of yard for convenience. Summer days, we had playpen every evening. Throughout year, we hosted playpen for every possible occasions; puppy birthday, anniversary, holidays, new puppy debut… We initially worried that some dogs might jump out and run away, but that never happened. Dogs are capable, but wanted to stay inside for fun. We actually had dogs jump in. If you need to just hold puppies around 1 – 3 months, you could buy 1 set. But, if you are planning any meaningful puppy playdate, you will need minimum 2 sets, most likely 3or 4. This gate does not stay put well at all. The tension does not hold it in place with just about any level of pressure. I used it as a dog gate and my puppy just knocks it down without much force. It really only works if he doesn't go near it. I even tried to use it on my back porch but it just fell down the stairs from the wind and scared the puppy. He didn't even touch it. Maybe this would work well in a new construction home with perfectly flat walls or doorways, but I live in a historic home built in the 1890s. All the doorways have original wood trim. I cannot get this gate to stay put in any of our doorways reliably at all. Not very sturdy and difficult to set up properly. As noted in a previous review, the mechanism does not slide properly so you can fit the gate snugly and easily to the door opening. I finally discovered if you turn the whole thing upside down, the slide seems to release and works when you turn it right side up again. When you finally get it in place, the bottom doesn't fit snugly and you have to tug on each side and pull it towards each side of the door opening. If you have patience, it might work well for a small animal, but my 25 pound puppy knocked it over easily, never mind the adult dogs. If you want something reliable, keep shopping. You'll probably have to spend more money to get something sturdier. I'm still looking.dltcd

My active Doberman is recovering from a spinal injury and needs to be confined. This pen is perfect. The quality is top-notch, with plenty of clear and illustrated instructions that are really not even necessary as it's so simple to set up. My one and only quibble is that the box opened nearly the full length of the side during shipping. I think the packing tape gave way. All parts were intact and nothing was damaged so just FYI. I'm now going to buy another one of these for the back yard. I was going to transport this one in and out rather than spend the money since it's (I'm hoping) not a life-long need, but while it's so easy to fold and move, it is pretty heavyweight (42") so it'd be a bit of a chore for me to do often. She's never been a jumper, especially not now, and I don't leave her alone outside so I could easily go with a lower height that's less expensive and more portable (keep in the shade) for the yard.jacy
I ordered several of these to use as barriers to prevent my young Border Collie from running through the mud in our back yard after it rains. I bought this gate to confine my dog in the kitchen which has a large open doorway. It fit well into the space and looked nice. Installation was pretty easy although I had to screw into drywall so if I were keeping the gate I would need to purchase anchors for the screws to ensure stability. For the most part this gate was just what I expected and I was initially happy with my purchase although the door was sometimes difficult to open with one hand. Unfortunately I have an incredibly agile dog and within a day of the gate being up she figured out that she could easily jump right over it. Will be returning the gate since it doesn't fulfill its intended purpose with my dog. I am sure it would work very well for dogs who are not able to jump so high.LuvMyShiba

I have a pup that is a large breed, he looks like I been feeding him steak and potatoes cause he's so dang big. He is ALL puppy though. I have a 2 yr old LARGE French Mastiff that weighs 180ish! I bought with the (red in color) “stubborn” collar. We previously installed a wired underground fence. (Which I have to mention took 2 FULL DAYS TO INSTALL AND READY TO USE!!) My Bo would realize he was close to the boundary, take a step or two back then take a run right through it, with no second thought!!! We watched him do this several times. I guess he was thinking, well this is going to hurt but only for a few short seconds. Idk?? But it did NOT phase him one bit! I had talked to 4 or 5 people that had this system, so reluctantly I decided to give it a try. I thought to myself well if it doesn’t work I will simply return it, no harm no foul. My boyfriend had it installed and collar on Bo in 30 mins flat. We walked ole hard-headed Bo around maybe 4 times to show him the boundaries. Once he heard the beeping, he kept walking then he felt the shock 1 time and that must have been enough because he never ventured close again! It has been about 2 months of use and I would give it 100 STARS IF IT WAS AN OPTION! We live in a subdivision where houses are fairly close. I was ultimately worried that the zone would lead into the neighboring yard. (which was the #1 thing we are trying to prevent) And although it may, Bo doesn’t even attempt to go that far. I believe he now understands to stay in his own yard! Living in a subdivision, many people take walks and Bo just sits and watches them now!! Matter of fact, just to see, we have sent him outside WITHOUT the collar and ironically enough HE STAYS IN OUR YARD!! The ONLY complaint I have is the small clear piece on the collar broke off the first time I went to adjust the strength of the shock. So far it hasn’t effected anything so fingers crossed on that! Just an FYI, we set ours on a level 3 to begin with and my boyfriend was ready to give up, so I told him to have some patience and we just kept adjusting the level on the collar and we ended up discovering for Bo he needed to be set on a #6. Again, I repeat he weighs 180 lbs, and the Mastiff bread is KNOWN for their stubbornness. I would suggest starting at the lowest level for a smaller dog PLEASE! The lack of specs on the product description was unfortunate. Compared to other kennels of the same cost, it’s smaller, which is also unfortunate- I compared by cost and height to hopefully get what I believed would be a 10×15 or 10×10 (again, no specs so I was going with a similar product for the same cost and hoping theyd be the same size). Based on the pictures without measurements, it LOOKED like MAYBE it was what I was looking for. Sadly, it’s smaller, but not so small that I can’t make it work. Cheaper quality fencing and poles but only wanted to add on to my existing kennel. I was short approx. 5' of fencing. This isn't the first kennel I've constructed (so I know what I am doing). This is perfect for my purpose. I needed a tall fence outside to keep my dogs out of a certain area. The 16 foot length is perfect. My dogs are pretty respectful of fences, so I didn't need anything heavy duty. It isn't clear from the picture nor the description, but there is a door. I have it upside down on purpose so that I can walk through instead of crawl through the opening. I purchased this product to put my new puppy in for short periods of time when I needed to do something. It was so flimsy my 3.5 lb puppy was able to drag it all over and my adult daughter bent over to pick him up barely touching the fence and it caved in with her falling hard to the floor just missing the pup. So for my particular purpose it did not work. Its a great idea and Im sure would work for another idea but I would not recommend for puppies or any dogs to be placed in this fence.Tina

I love this gate, especially for the price! I had to cover an 8 foot area and its perfect. My little one is 1 1/2 and he likes to shake it. Each end is connected into studs so it wiggles but its secure. Both sides have a little slide door, its easy to slide but I prefer to step over. The latch kinda sticks. I also needed a dog door so I actually made one myself with this gate and it was really easy! I know all the dog door long gates are super expensive. I hope this helps!jennifer
We bought this gate for an 89inch entryway between our dining room and living room and it works perfectly. Installation was fast and easy and it has held up to all of my kids banging on it and shaking it and whatever it is that kids typically do. the metal bracket screwed into the gate at the bottom is a little bent from their activity but I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon, bent, but still works perfectly. We don't have any problems opening it and closing it, it might be a little tricky when I am in a hurry but still only takes a few seconds. My 3 1/2 years old did open it once unassisted but he hasn't tried it since, I'd imagine its pretty tricky for most kids especially for the ones younger than 3. We bought this for our 1 year old and I wished I had bought it sooner!! I love that it condenses and swings open both directions, can be opened from either end, and that it would be very easy to put away for when guests come over if need be. I tried to see if I could just get a single replacement panel, but I don't know how to do that. So far, this kennel has saved 4 lives, by providing my partner and I a safe place where our new "rescue" pup can run and play off some of his excess energy, without driving us insane. Also, our little Cocker Spaniel, who is a very dignified (and sedate) 11+ years old, just wants absolutely NOTHING to do with the new pup. N-O-T-H-I-N-G!! Which means, naturally, the pup just thinks the Cocker is his personal chew toy!! So yes, the kennel is great, the materials are of good quality, it is very sturdy, and I especially love the fact that it can be moved to different areas of the yard so the grass doesn't get killed off from the pup's potty in one spot consistently. The nuts on this product are welded and the preset screws are soft and in very tight. This made it difficult to get the screws out without stripping them. I also had problems getting one of the pipes to slide into the other because there was a small piece of metal sticking down inside the pipe. I spent about an hour trying to file that down so i could finish the assembly. So what should have taken maybe two hours, turned into a four hour project. Aside from the horrors of putting the kennel together, it serves it's purpose for my 22 lb dog. I don't know how it will withstand the weather because I've only had it two weeks. It wasn't worth $157 in my opinion.Lola
This kennel is pretty flimsy and won’t hold a large dog that is determined to get out. I used my own tie wire because the ties that were included were a joke. Luckily I only need it for my rabbits and after I made my own gate latch and blocked off the space under the gate it was great for them. I love Hayneedle, but the company that made this fence should have sent instructions; and the gate should have been assembled instead of coming in different strands of wire. Overall good product that meets the needs of our pup. It is helpful to have more then two people to apply the chain link to the frame. The picture is very false. Expected it to be in panels to put together. EZ it says EZ it's not. Came in pieces including having to put frame together then wrap chain link around like putting a fence up. So it is not EZ when there is one person and a 10x 10×5 comes in a 5 by 15×12 inch box.
