Like others have said it is kind of cheaply made. I had bend some of steel to keep pin in for lid. I think I got that fixed. The magnets don’t always latch on level ground so I raised the back about 1/2” and door does catch with the magnets every time. However, magnets are not very strong. I think it would keep mice out but I don’t think a big rat would have problem budging open the door. I may add a strip of magnets on each side to be a little more difficult to open for rats. Hoping this works good for my livestock guardian dogs.Sharonco

Great idea, poorly executed. Ordered this feeder in store, with the help of an associate and the item was delivered to the store the next day. Unfortunately, it took another 6 days (I had the tracking number) for the store to email me it was ready to pick up. The box was clearly damaged, yet no one thought to open it up and view that the feeder was also damaged. I opened the box while still in the store so the employees could witness. The feeders load door was bent at one corner so the lid wouldn't function as it should. The lower door would get stuck in the open position and there were three rivets that were pulled through the light gauge sheet metal. I made this purchase for the occasional out of town travel and was leaving town that same day I received this item. So, re-ordering and waiting another 6+ days was out of the question. Was I offered a discount for the damaged merchandise? No. They put me in a spot, so I took it and made the needed repairs to the lid, door, drilled out and installed new pop rivets. I cannot recommend this feeder in good faith.walla2k5

We bought this feeder for 5 dogs, different ages, breeds and sexes. We rescue and foster on a regular basis and needed something for automatic or self feeding on few occasions. It is very hard for them to use. Most of the dogs have to lay down to eat. We have been through several types of food trying to solve the issue of the food not being able to fall down enough for the dogs to get to it. It is extremely loud when they stick their heads in and out to feed. We were really disappointed with the product. We researched and bought from our local store. We were unable to take the product back, even for store credit. We are currently in the process of trying to build a stand in order to work around the dogs laying down to eat as well as being able to knock it over. At this point the product is a little over a month old and I hate it.MrsH2010

Well, it works but not very well. I was excited to get this, thinking we wouldn't have to worry if we didn't get home early enough to feed our Miss Bunny Dog. But now I have to monitor the unit constantly so it doesn't dispense more food than she should have daily. Now I wish I had not purchased it. Likes: Doesn't take up much space. Black so no smudges show. Holds a lot of kibble. Don't have to worry about size of kibble (Bunny is a large American Bulldog). Stainless steel bowl, easy to clean. Holder for bowl so it stays put Dislikes: The stupid thing will not dispense food correctly. I have re-set it multiple times but it continues to dispense food too early or too late or decides to do the "slow" distribution of kibble when I haven't programmed it to do that. Hard to understand the menu and to make changes. Hard to read the display, too small and not bright enough. If unplugged have to reset everything and hope you did it right, plus sitting on the floor to reset it is irritating. Top is too difficult to get off, takes 2 hands. Cannot see how much kibble is left in unit. The bowl is tucked too far underneath the unit so my dog has to tilt her head sideways to eat. Because I cannot afford another one I will just grumble and fight this one until one of us dies…Nona

So far, so good. My first auto feeder was a PetMate which worked wonderfully for the longest time…until I put the cats on a diet (they are very "plush"). From that point on it became their mission in life to breach the feeder. I put in several counter measures, bungee cords, velcro, super glue, weighted objects and none could correct the feeder's top heavy design. I gave up trying to rig it to thwart the kitties and bought the PetSafe. Love it's squat, low profile resistant to being bulldozed over by the cats (which they did with the PetMate). I love that you can tailor extra small portions, slow feeding and multiple times a day. The old feeder was very limited to feeding times (only 4 I think), so this is a BIG improvement. It more closely mimics how cats like to eat in the wild – small meals spread out over time. What I hate about it: 1) eats batteries. I purchased the A/C adapter but haven't used it yet because of placement issues. There was no low battery warning, like a beep or red flashing light; it just stopped and I only realized after I got waylaid by a mob of hungry cats. 2) The design that makes it tip resistant also makes it bulky and takes up space awkwardly 3) The little itty bitty stainless steel bowl and attachment. It's barely big enough for one big fat cat head, much less three. It was something I never used because I thought it would encourage fighting over food and I worked very hard so they would harmoniously share the same dish. The PetMate had a better design feature in this respect. I looked into the 3-d printed chute attachment, but I'm reluctant because it looks like it is unwieldy and will only work with kick proof ceramic bowls. 4)ish…like others I had my struggles with the programming and the lcd display. It definitely isn't intuitive for me, but after going through it multiple times to adjust feeding schedules, I think I got the hang of it. No more cat stomping on us at 5:00 or 6:00 every morning (whether it's a weekend or not.) No more having to arrange for someone to feed the cat when we go away for the weekend. Honestly, I love this thing. It has changed out life. You set up the feeding times (up to five of them a day) and the amount of food to disperse, and your cat soon learns not to bother YOU when he's hungry, but to go camp out beside his "robot overlord" and wait for the conveyor belt to start up. It's not too difficult to program either; the instructions are a bit complex, but laid out pretty well in the manual. (There are a few quirks: be aware when you're setting times that that noon is 12:00 am on the keypad. Also, you'll find that it gradually gains time, so that after a month or two the feedings are coming a few minutes earlier that they started; no problem, just reset the time on the clock.) Also, the sound of the food hitting the little metal dish (we call it the "dinner bell") is a little loud, so if it's near your bedroom you might want to put a silicon pad in the bottom of the bowl. The good-sized hopper holds weeks worth of food, and has so far confounded the best efforts of a well-motivated tomcat. It's a bit pricey, but not out of line with other autofeeders I looked at. And frankly, after having it for a couple of years, if we ever have to replace it, I will happily pay a good bit more if I have to. If I'm going to have a cat, I'm going to have this feeder.p3.orion

I purchased this unit a few weeks ago before a weekend trip away. I got it several days before my scheduled trip and it seemed to work well and I think it worked while I was away, but today I'm not sure. I have been hearing it move twice in the morning since I have been off work all weekend. I was wondering why some of the compartments still had food in them and others completely empty. I do notice when I hear the unit move my cat goes running towards it. The setting of the unit is certainly not straight forward there are 9 options and 5 spots, but only 4 if you don't count the open one. The instructions were less than informative. I have had this feeder now for about 2 years, for use when away on vacation. It has worked well until recently, but later realized new batteries were needed. Now,working perfect again. Luckily they only missed 2 meals by our return. Small problem: We have 2 cats and as kittens, it was great as they could share the one device for 5 days. And having two devices, could set one for AM feeding and the other for PM. Now that they are older, bigger and will finish the others food – they each need their own – limiting the number of timed portion controlled feedings it will provide. Initially disliked but practical design: As for the timer mechanism placement living under the actual cover, its a bit tedious, but it does prevent accidental disturbance by paws. Larger problem: My main issue is the open compartment. It prevents 5 timed feeding cycles. This should be named 4 portion feeder, as the one compartment is always open. It allows direct access . For animals that are grazers, eating throughout the day – this is great. But I have 2 cats, who will finish the others food. I only find this helpful is its close to feeding time when leaving, so can use that open compartment immediately.Shari

My Siberian has odd hours throughout the day and early morning for 2 medications. I swiped and invisible coating of peanut butter in each tray to overpower the plastic scent. Non-chewable medicines I put in edible-when-raw cookie dough. She hears the feeder move to the next slot and she comes running after just the second time training her. This give us human pack members (me) freedom to go shopping, visiting, anything you want and not have to worry about missing a medicine time. Day 2 and now she sleeps near it. I absolutely love this automatic meal feeder for my cat. It is easy to setup by just turning the dial timer to schedule the 2 mealtimes. It helps feed the cat automatically as well as control the portion size. There are two trays each of which holds upto 1.5 cups of food. The lid is secure and tamper resistant. I just received it. We have had it about 2 weeks now. And it's made of a hard plastic with 2 weeks for food, it had two timers and it works better then I expected. It's easy to use. My animals are not afraid of it. It makes no sound. Done make a clicking noise of had a buzzer when it's time to eat. But this one has none. Which is great.Christie 75

Our cat loves to sing us the song of her people at 6am as encouragement to get up and FEED the cat. As you can imagine every morning at 6am sharp as if she has her very own kitty alarm clock set..we hear "Meow" followed by "Meow" and this process continues for a good 45 minutes. At the 45 minute mark when she realizes that we are refusing to be awoken by her songs..she claws at our bedroom door. In desperation we open the bedroom door and go back to bed! Why negotiate with the tiny furry terrorist? The problem is that now that the door is open she has free reign to sing LOUDER and PROUDER! So she will continue to sing loud and proud the songs of her people to make sure we were well aware that her bowl is probably not actually empty, but needs to be filled anyways. So she will continue with an enthusiatic "MEOW MEOW" for another fifteen minutes until our alarms officially go off at 7am. Now at 7am she feels that her reign of terror may officially begin and she will claw at the bed and/or jump on the bed to gain our full attention at the travesty that is her probably not empty bowl in the kitchen. This product is saving my marriage, my door frame and my sleep! We can now set the two bowls to magically pop open at 6am and 6pm and our cat thinks we have some black magic going on however she is being fed at a proper hour now..so she is happy. I am happy because I can sleep until my alarm and there is less home repair now. My only complaint is that the two bowls are connected, I wish they were separate so you could wash them, or even dump the food from one to the other to set one side, I tend to like to do things when I'm thinking about it, and since my cat likes to reign terror at 6am, if I think about the bowl at 3pm, it would be nice to just be able to dump the old food. If I think about it at 7pm, I could combine all the food and then set it, etc. But that is a small complaint considering my tiny furry terrorist is leaving me alone in the morning. Thought the batteries went dead after a year. Spent another $10 on new batteries only to find out that it wasn’t the batteries but the feeder itself completely stopped working. For how much it costs and for it to completely stop functioning after 1 year I would never buy this company’s products again not recommend. Buyer beware!1JMGD

This automatic feeder is a breeze to use and a great help in the household the second you take it out of the box. The set up is incredibly easy and involves nothing more than installing your batteries, popping in the feeder tray and setting your schedule. The fact that the entire thing runs on a few D batteries instead of AC power makes me feel much more comfortable about using something like this. With a clock that's always running and drawing power, I'm much happier with having to occasionally replace them rather than worry out its effect on my power bill. Plus, without a cable to grab the attention of my somewhat mischievous cat, I know that everyone will be safe and happy. Actually putting everything together takes no more than thirty seconds. Simply pushing the feeder tray into the main body of the device is all you have to do and that's really it. Once you're up and running it holds a full 18 ounce container of dry cat food, so all all you do is pour the new box in and toss it out. It frees up some pantry space and I never have to wonder how much food is left or when I have to buy more. When it comes to setting up the schedule, the actual process is very straightforward and easily done. The buttons are clearly labeled and I didn't run into a single problem when I set it to feed once every morning. Those buttons, however, can honestly be a bit of a challenge. It takes a lot of pressure to make them register your input and I found myself having to wiggle my finger while depressing a few times to make it work for me. This is a really small inconvenience and at the end of the day it's totally outweighed by the benefits of a hands and worry free feeder, but I felt it bore mentioning. All in all this is really great product and it's already a permanent fixer in my home and will likely remain so for years. It's a very easy 4/5 stars!cheranne

The setup of this feeder was pretty easy as the instruction manual that came with it was fairly straightforward. I had no problem putting it together since the only loose parts were the bowl and the lockable lid. Having the lockable lid is great for my sneaky cats and their prying paws. The bowl locks into place against the feeder too, and that’s a plus so that it won’t shift around or away from the feeder and get food all over the floor. On that note, this feeder would probably work best for a one or two-cat household. I have 5 cats, and my sister has 9, and we agree that it’s harder to use a feeder like this for that many animals since multiple meals are needed to feed them all. Each meal triangle slot can hold a lot of food when full, but if my cats don’t eat the entire portion from one of the slots that dispenses before the next mealtime then the bowl will overflow onto the floor when food is dispensed again. One solution would be to place the whole feeder without the attached bowl onto a large boot tray and have that act as the food catching apparatus. I tried this and it worked well, but it’s not an ideal situation as it takes up more space and can be messy. Otherwise, multiple feeders will be needed to serve multiple cats to be able to feed smaller meals over the course of the day and not have the attached bowl overflow. However, you might still run into a problem if multiple cats decided to eat from one feeder instead of each cat eating from their own feeder. This doesn’t negate the fact that this is an excellent little machine, and it would work well to serve my cats if I go out of town for a day or a weekend. So this is a useful device for me in that respect. I can use it as a daily feeder and operate it manually if I just place it in sleep mode when I don’t want it to run. I wouldn’t mind seeing an additional food tank for storage attached to this feeder. Having an attached storage reservoir would make it easy to transfer food into the slots when it’s time for refilling. One more thing about meal times – I could choose to program the feeder to run before I leave for work and after I am set to be home so that I can monitor if the food bowl becomes too full. Overall, this is a quality machine that is helpful to have in my household, but there are improvements that I would like to see made.Angelcakes

It took very little time for my little 6 lb. Mitzi ti figure out what the chime meant but once she did, it is a great away to feed her away from home but she wants her food from it when we are home. It is great that we can set the time and portion for her meals. She has tummy issues and we were overfeeding her when we went out thinking she would wouldn't mind being alone. It did the opposite and her stomach couldn't handle too much at once. Only issue we had was the AC cord was inches too short to the wall outlet so we are using an extension cord.Wish we had found this before now!Jane

I bought this automatic feeder for our cat to allow her biscuits whilst we are either later at work or out for the day. It is battery AA run. The timer is not time related but hourly, so you set it to open anything from 1 hour to 48 hours. You can put wet food in as the product comes with a gelice pack but we have only put biscuits in.Th only downside is our cat is managing to get the feeder open slightly before the set time. We are not sure how she is doing this but it is not really a problem to us as she is still getting fed without having to wait for us to return home.Mrs M Garlick

So far seems to work well and the timer is accurate within a couple of minutes. Have to play around with number of feeding portions to have it dispense amount desired, which will change with size of food. Voice speaker could be louder and clearer, but the dog tends to listen for the dispensing mechanism to come and eat. Love this feeder! I switched from a 2-day feeder to this one which will feed each cat for several weeks. The hardest part is coordinating all 3 feeders to release the food at approximately the same time. I'm still playing around with the timing mechanisms, but I'll get there. This is such an excellent product. It has removed any inconsistencies in our feeding patterns. Programming feeding times and amounts through the app is quite simple. After a long weekend trip in which we almost didn't make it back on the intended day due to a flight cancellation, and we couldn't rely on a cat sitter because my partner hadn't fulfilled his responsibility to find one, I decided enough was enough and looked for an automatic feeder for our cat. After reading multiple articles and watching several YouTube review videos, I decided on the Feeder Robot. The first one I received ended up having a defect, and when I emailed and called Whisker customer service, they were very responsive and helpful and provided me a replacement right away. With the second Feeder Robot, I followed Whisker's instructions for getting my cat accustomed to it, and he was adjusted to it in less than a week. It's been over a month now, and everything is working great. We've also needed to put our cat on a diet, and the Feeder Robot makes this very easy with the 1/8 cup portion dispenser. I know the Feeder Robot is expensive, but this device is worth every penny. Not only does it automate a tedious daily task, but it also gives me peace of mind that my cat will have food if I'm ever delayed in getting back home. I highly recommend it!AC

This feeder works very well for what I need it to do. In order to get more sleep, and live with my cats in better harmony, I put food in the night before and it opens for them between 5-6a. I place it in a different room so I don't hear them pawing at it all night but it is a life saver otherwise. One side clicks open, then the next 2 seconds later. I also use it when I go out of town (feed in the morning, have it open at night, then arrive back in the morning). It's not noisy, it's light, and works great!Lizq

I got the feeder about 3 weeks ago. It was a bit difficult to figure out how to set the feeding times. To set, you must figure out how many hours it will be until you want the doors to open. You can only set times at full hour intervals which was a bit clunky. If I want to set the tray for 5:30, I have to wait until 30 past the hour to set the number of hours before it opens. It would be better if there was an actual clock that you could set the time for it to open. It can be a bit of a surprise for the dog if they are near it when the door opens the first couple of times. Didn't take long for our dog to get used to it. Each side holds two cups which is a good amount for a medium to medium-large sized dog. The instructions recommend you only use dry dog food when loading it up. It is well made and easy to clean. Once you get it filled and set it for the right time, it works well – especially if you have to be away when it's time for your furry friend to eat.Hunnellb

The Digital Two Meal Feeder arrived a week or so ago in good condition. It's a very lovely deep blue and gray. It does not come with a plug but requires batteries. (I'd much prefer a plug.) I tried it out for the first time this weekend. Neighbors planned to feed the cats Sat and Sun AM, and I planned to set the feeder to go Sat night: one bowl would open at 6pm, and the other at 7pm. However, in my distracted state (trying to pack, get the cats set up, get out of the house, etc…) I did very poor math on the number of hours to program it for and one tray opened a couple hours before the neighbors came by to feed them. (You use +/- buttons to indicate the number of hours from now that you would like each tray to open.) While the bad programming was my error, the right tray failed to open entirely–it was still closed when we returned Sunday PM. Both trays open now roughly once out of every two attempts at holding down the button for more than 5 sec. The left opens first, then the right. Not sure if they're supposed to both open at the same time, and this is indicative of a mechanical problem with the right tray?CatMama

I got this and have been using it for a few weeks now. There are some pros and cons to this for me personally. First, the pros, it's easy to use for the most part. There is a 24 hour dial on it which you just count how many hours until the next feeding and set it to that. Then set the other side for two feedings from now and set how many hours again for this. It opens up at the time it should with ease. There is no ticking for the countdown and it's quiet. The cons for me would be that it says it fits 3 cups of food, I would say each side is more suited for one cup each. Which is all we needed it for, for our pet so this worked but not sure much more could go into it than that. The other con is, if I were to leave this out for my dog and set it those times, it's so light weight that my dog would have it upside down carried across the house so this would not work for us if we were not home and it was left unattended. There is no seals so he would smell the food in it….Lynds85

I thought the automatic pet feeder would be a great idea for my cats who act like they never get to eat any food. This was my bright idea to give it a try. Their version of the concept of an automatic cat feeder is on a different level. I had this feeder for four weeks now. I have tried everything to get my youngest two to eat from this feeder. They will not go anywhere near it. The middle cat is 4, and my youngest cat is 2. They prefer the old style fashion of their food bowl. They will scream at me until I fill up their bowl – even with this open and full of food … They consider it some kind of trap they won't go near. My oldest cat is a different story. He (his name is Pepper) has figured out how to use his paw and move the dial to get the door to open sooner. When I say sooner, I mean he has learned to paw at it till he gets it to open when he is hungry. I think that defeated the purpose of the timer. I can't say it's a great product to have since my oldest cat learned how to open it, but I can't say it's a bad product since my other two cats want nothing to do with the feeder. I'm neutral when it comes to the automatic cat feeder.Mtsmom

Three of these have broken in less than a year! I don’t understand why they malfunction and stop working. It will play the recording telling my poor dog to come and eat and then not dispense any food and I will just see EEEE on the screen! Bad thing is that since it is playing the recording I was thinking my dog was eating until I was standing in the kitchen next to it and I did not hear the food dropping this morning. This is the third time in less than a year that this has happened!! It’s very sad and scary to think that when you are not home and you are thinking your dog is eating because you invested in this machine, and then it does not feed your dog. The company has to do something about this. The last time it happened they gave me a hard time about replacing the unit and now it happened again. UghDebbie Ying

Ive been extremely pleased with these automatic pet feeders. As other reviewers mentioned, the sound recording feature does not work (or at least did not on mine), so if thats something youre dead-set on having then this listing is probably not for you. Other than that, this item works wonderfully. It dispenses food at the pre-programmed times and seems to dole out roughly the same amount each time. Programming the machine is relatively simple and painless if you can spare 10 minutes to read the instructions and maybe do some quick math to calculate portion sizes. I bought two of these, one for each of my cats, and I set the time on the second one so it dispenses ~15 seconds after the first this way, my more voracious kitty is already busy eating and the second cat gets to eat her food at a calmer pace without intrusions. I would recommend these feeders as a great option for anyone who doesnt want to spend $100+ on a pet feeder but also doesnt want to be woken up at 5am by a hungry kitty pawing at their face. 😉av3maria

I bought this feeder in September of 2020. I thought it would be a nice way to dispense a small amount of food at a time throughout the day and to have when we were gone for a weekend. It was great for about six months. I had no problem programming it, and it worked as it said it would. However, about six months after I got it, it would occasionally stop working and give an error message. It was easy to reset by turning it off and back on. It was just occasional, and I read it was because the food was stuck in it (although that never seemed to be the case because turning it off and on always reset it). But now it is giving the error message at least once a day, if not more. I’m constantly checking it and resetting it. I’m essentially feeding my cats every time I do this because I don’t know when they last got food. This thing was not cheap, and a year later it basically doesn’t work at all anymore. I’m annoyed that I have to find another one. If someone has a suggestion for a good feeder that I don’t have to replace after a year, please let me know.Steviesmom2020

I was anxious to get this duo for our 10 month old pup- he spends lots of time outdoors and this would allow him to have unlimited water and food. Upon receiving the product the top lid of the food popped off and never went back on securely – – i did email the seller and he/she had no clue about the product at all and uninterested of what was going on- we still use the product but the pup is able to knock off the lids and now plays with it! I don't know if ours was faulty or if all of the containers are like this!crazinusa

Looks exactly as advertized. Food dispenser hold 4lb bag. You have to shake the container when you need to refill the food bowl. Water fills itself whenever the bowl gets too low. To refill the food dispencer you just pop of the lid on top. To refill the water dispenser you need to flip it upside down and pull off the bowl attachment, unscrew the lid (about the size of the palm of large mayonase jar) i only have to do this once a week. Honestly, i love it and deffinitely would reccomend to a friend.MaeYenger

Bought these for my two cats, thinking they would be great for feeding while we are gone for a long weekend. The dry cat food dispenser needs to be given a slight nudging everday so the food from the canister can flow down into the bowl, otherwise it gets stuck inside. Perhaps the opening is a bit too small. The water dispenser works fine but if any of you have cats, then you know they don't like stale water. We bought this to keep our giant slobbery indoor heckin' chonka watered for a brief getaway, and on the whole it's hit the mark for that. At 4 gallons of water, with an optional activated charcoal filter pack, this thing will keep your dog(s) stocked with tasty water for quite a while (especially if you have smaller breeds). It's now our everyday waterer, and we fill it once or twice a month depending on seasonal weather. It's very easy to clean, with all the parts coming apart easily, and the huge openings mean everything's readily accessible even if you have larger hands. Between the easy cleanability and the use of Microban, I'd be comfortable drinking out of it myself after a fresh cleaning. It's never grown weird things or become discolored or slimy between cleanings. But. The 4-gallon model is also a giant, treacherous, clumsy mess when it comes time to refill it and put it back together. Unlike most of their older models, Petmate decided not to mold a handle into the jug on this one. While this would normally just make things slightly less convenient, this jug is also completely untextured and extremely slippery. If you don't manage to get the jug and your hands COMPLETELY bone dry, it can and will slip out of your hands, dump water all over the floor, and dislodge the carbon filter so you have to jam your arm elbow-deep into now-slightly-less-than-four gallons of water to reassemble everything. This giant, slippery, unmanageable bottle uses Petmate's twist-lock bottle top, so even if you get the bottle inserted on the first try, you often still end up wrestling with 32 pounds of sloshy slippery bulk trying to get it into its proper groove. Or, if you don't notice the bottle is slightly off kilter, the gravity feed never stops flowing and soon once again there's water all over your floor. (But, one the up side, once it's on there even your large dog isn't going to knock the bottle off its perch.) If you don't absolutely positively need the largest model, go for a smaller one. If you do, plan to throw some skate deck grip tape or the like on the bottle, and don't plan on passing refill duty off to your younger kids or smaller partner.C.M.

I purchased the 2.5 gallon gravity waterer. It is used by 1 dog and 2 cats. Problem is the water does not flow into bowl unless I tilt it. I thought the filter was obstructing it so I purchased new filter….Same Problem. Then I removed the filter…..Same Problem. Also my cats keep batting at it to get water and end up knocking the reservoir off the bowl…Flows all over floor!! Now it is past the 30 days so no refund or exchange.available…Really wish I had read reviews first, although many seem happy with the product…….Any suggestions??KRP2022

Got a new Jack Russell and after much review of all water bowl products, I decided on this one because it is strong plastic, has microban and is made in USA (although it never says what things are from overseas). Unfortunately, this water "replenishing" water bowl does not work. Utter failure. The charcoal pack had to be removed completely as the water didnt flow. Still, the water does NOT flow…I have to tip is over myself every single time. When I inspected it closer the bottom of the filter part is completely on the bottom of the bowl. Unless the entire unit is tilted at a 45 degree angle, water does NOT come out. I bought this at Petsmart and i tried to take it back but I missed the return window by 2 days. Now I am stuck with a $27 piece of plastic. I hope this will save someone the time, money and frustration.JID918

We bought the Feeder-Robot to replace our existing PetSafe Smart Feed 2nd Generation. We bought the Smart Feed because it was, at the time, seemingly the best automatic feeder on the market, but when we saw the Feeder-Robot we knew we had to try it! Right off the bat, we found that we preferred the fit and finish of the Feeder-Robot. It looks a little more modern, and it feels a tad sturdier. Quality control also seems to be better; there was a button rattling around in the Smart Feeder's box which we later found out was the reset button, which may complicate selling it since it's required to connect the device to a different WiFi hotspot. Oh well. The mechanism that dispenses kibble is also FAR easier to clean than the conveyor system of the PetSafe Smart Feed. The stainless steel bowl that comes with the Smart Feed is very thin, and when kibble is dispensed it sounds like shots being fired! We ended up having to buy a 3D-printed adapter so we could use a different bowl, but it's a bit of a hassle to clean and doesn't look very nice. It worked for a while, but we wanted something better. We weren't fans of the plastic bowl that came with the Feeder-Robot, either (one of our cats is prone to chin acne), but we bought the optional glass bowl which we've been very happy with. We like that there's a gentle slope to the bottom of the bowl; when food is dispensed, it fans out and covers more area than if the bowl were flat. A nice touch that we didn't anticipate. We like that we have the option of controlling the Feeder-Robot from the device itself rather than solely through the app (which we actually like, but the option is still nice). The buttons don't appear to be prone to accidental presses from curious cats trying to get an extra meal, which is an issue that the Smart Feed has with its easily-pressed top button. The built-in backup battery of the Feeder-Robot is a GREAT feature that I'm very much a fan of. The Smart Feeder takes 4 D batteries as a backup power solution, which requires periodic replacement as they're used. It also doesn't like rechargeable Ds due to the slightly lower voltage they provide; it always thinks they're low. A built-in battery is a much more elegant solution. The Feeder-Robot dispenses food in 1/4 cup increments, whereas the Smart Feeder dispenses in 1/8 cup increments. We wish that the Feeder-Robot would dispense in smaller increments for greater control over portions, but it's not been an issue so far. Our cats have adapted well to getting larger, fewer feedings. Gravity mode is also a NEAT feature that we didn't even realize it had when we bought it. It should come in handy should we ever need to travel for a few days and have a neighbor watch the little beasts. All in all, we're pretty darn happy that we tried the Feeder-Robot, and we'll be selling the PetSafe Smart Feed (should we ever get the reset button issue figured out).Chris C.

I got this feeder robot just before a 3-week-long trip. To my surprise, my cat was not hesitant and happily started eating from the Feeder-robot. Getting the feeder saved my cat sitter and me from free feeding my cat while I was away. The Whisker app that connects to the feeder works great and enables the scheduling of small meals throughout the day, I get a notification every time the food is dispensed, which gives me peace of mind. Also, the feeder lid has a light indicator that tells whether the feeder has enough food or needs a refill. I have used this feeder for the past two months and haven't had any issues. These days, once my cat hears the food dropping into his bowl, irrespective of what he's doing, he sprints to the feeder. Overall, it's a fantastic product that does an excellent job. My cat and I both love this Feeder-Robot and we highly recommend it!Prasanth K.

I have ZERO REGRETS about purchasing this automatic feeder! I have spent a lot of money buying other automatic feeders off of Amazon, only to find that the kibble has jammed up in them and it doesn’t drop down the chute properly. I love that this feeder allows you to control portions, let’s you give snacks, tracks how full the container is and notifies you when meals are dispensed. I know it’s a big decision to make such a big purchase, but honestly I would highly recommend buying one! I wish this had been on the market when the litter robot first came out. It didn’t become available until some time later, but I purchased it when it first became available and was so glad I did. I opted to buy a glass dish because one of my cats struggles with chin acne, so it helps keep things nice and hygienic. It makes going out of town a whole lot easier. I don’t have to stress if the kitties get fed on time or not. It has yet to fail on me and I’ve had it for over a year now. I am really happy with my litter robot products and the automatic feeder is no different! I use Purina One food in it, and have had zero issues with it holding the kibble or jamming. I would 100% purchase one again if I needed to. It’s worth every penny!Thao

I don't normally like to write negative reviews. I'm an electrical engineer and have tried to get useful technical support from the company, they know very little about their own product. This is my SECOND unit and it has the same issue..works perfectly for several months then it will just start feeding and not stop, upon feed command. I took the tank area off and checked electrical integrity of the small microswitch which "counts" I'm assuming the turns of the motor, it works fine. This is a firmware/server issue. I don't think it's my wifi but I suppose its possible? Without knowing how the system really works I cannot resolve the problem. I reluctantly must choose another manufacturer as I travel for work and this helps me feed my outdoor mice destroyers (cats). Hope this helps anyone considering this and I wish they would fix the issue.jagster

I've always tried to be on a good schedule with feeding my dog, but, let's face it life happens & our dogs/cats don't always get fed when they should, sometimes it's an hour past feeding time & you suddenly remember oh no! Or if you're out of the house, either you depend on pouting a few bowls of food & hoping they don't eat it all at once, or you depend on someone else to remember to come by. Both instances are unreliable at worst & even at their best, it's still throwing your pet off of their routine. Well, all of that is now solved with the Smart Feed by Pet Safe. Not only does it automatically dispense the exact amount of food multiple times a day, but there's an app that you can control it with! REALLY easy to set up & not as big or bulky as you would think, it holds a lot of food in the reservoir & has a regular dispensing mode and a slow feeder mode for animals who eat too quickly. To be honest, the slow feed mode is SUPER SLOW, for our large dog, it takes too long to dispense the 4 cups in slow mode & he was left just sitting there wandering where is food was. If the track system could be revamped, or a different bowl type given as an option, slow feed mode may work better, but as it is, for a large (over 100 lb) dog, it's not helpful. Otherwise, everything about the feeder has been super smooth, super easy & super convenient….most of all it is super reliable & allows us to have peace of mind about our dog having his meals if we are home or out of the house. The app is an added benefit & before installing, I did check out the reviews. They are NOT all talking about the Smart Feed Dog & Cat Feeder though! This app is also made to work with a couple of their other products, so just keep that in mind if you see negative reviews. The app downloads with no issues, gives you literal step by step instructions, has smooth UI, & connecting to the Feeder is super easy & quick. I had the app installed, connected and feeding my dog within 10 minutes, only took that long because I played around with the profile of our dog & the slow feed mode. It stays connected to your phone as long as your wifi is on. Our wifi is thru our cable service, so it's always on. The app let's me know when his meal has been dispensed and had let me know when the food is getting low. That's been the only time I've had to touch it since I set it up! If you're looking for a reliable, easy way to feed your pet (a really important part of having your pet is feeding them just like you feed yourself, on a schedule!), this is worth every penny. It is a little pricey, but to take away all worries about amount, being on schedule & especially when gone from the house, it's worth it! It's also helpful for people like myself who are disabled. I don't have to pull out his bags of food or the big tub of food and try to keep my dog away from me while I gather the 3-4 cups of food and take it to his bowl. Nothing gets dropped & if you have nosey animals or pests, the lid locks tightly to the feeder, just like if it was in a Tupperware. The steel bowl keeps the feeder more sanitary & love that it isn't plastic! Way better for my dog to eat from and lots easier to clean. I cannot stop talking about how much I really like this feeder, the app & how smooth it has made everything food related with my pet! Definitely not going back to a regular bowl ever again, did I mention it has customer support & a warranty? Yeah, this is great & if you can pick it up on sale, do it!!! The peace of mind is amazing. Now I just need Pet Safe to make a filter free but filtered watering system for my dog. Not a fountain or something that will make a mess (which btw, the feeder never misses the bowl or spills out over the bowl!), but if it could sit beside the feeder & look like a pair, I'd pay for that one as soon as it came out! The mobile app is pretty slick. It would be nice if there were a few more options, and the feeder has missed a few meals, but not anything consistent or major. The hopper holds a lot of food, and it is fairly secure (our 4 cats have not found their way into it yet!) The feeding mechanism for this is unique from almost any other feeder on the market – it uses a conveyor belt, which they claim helps prevent jamming – an issue that occurred with my prior feeder. The feeder is pretty quiet. It is supposed to alert me when it runs out of food / is running low, but the app failed to notify me. Luckily because you can see through the lid, I noticed the hopper was running low before it ran out.Robert

These were perfect! The food feeder holds a week's food for my outdoor cats so I don't have to worry about them. I use the waterer for my two Indoor cats. My youngest.cat likes to drag his old water dish around, sloshing water all over the place! But he can't budge the new one because of the 2-gallon water jug. I love it!toad0219
