I really liked the quality of this training system. Over all the Pro system works as described. However, the collar attached to this system is longer than needed and shortening the strap is questionable given the contact wire that runs through the strap. Also, the strap would be more beneficial to be a snap locking system rather than a buckle. As my dog recognizes the purpose of the collar, she is not a fan, and likes to put up some resistance when having it placed on her. Given a snap system would take seconds to secure rather than a wrestling match.Runningguard

I did a lot of research on ecollars before deciding to purchase this one. I got this for a dog that is a rescue who has had some major behavior issues. I use the collar for training and he is excelling at everything. The only thing I would caution would not be specific to this ecollar but to all ecollars. Watch the fit. The band stretches after it's worn a few times and needs to be tightened on the dog's neck. Be sure to start out at the lowest level and only go up in slight increments until your dog reacts to the zap. This will prevent you from using more power than needed. I have three dogs and will be purchasing additional collars for my other two dogs. All three can work from this one remote. Switching from dog to dog is done by simply turning a dial.justjen

I’m very satisfied with the R.A.P.T. 1400, the remote is very user friendly and I’m so happy to have a back of the hand setup. Battery life on the collar itself seems to be much improved over my previous models of collar. My one and only complaint is the collar itself is already starting to separate layers, fraying at the feed point and I’ve had to trim and tape twice in less than a month of use (my other collars took years for this to happen). Training is quite enjoyable with the ergonomics of the remote and the programmable quick button is definitely a nice touch. I have been using these collars for several years now and going to buy second set since my dog family has grown. I also have the SPT 2422 system so 4 collars right now in all. I have purchased this collar system two different times and I am extremely satisfied with the range and the claim of being waterproof. I lost a dog a while back and was resolved that someone had taken him and removed his tracking collar. He was found three months later, and he had unfortunately fell through the ice and downed near our house. It was a sad day when he was finally found in the water. He had on one of your collars on him still. He had been underwater for three months and I had already replaced his collar. I removed the collar from his neck and wondered if it was ruined. I took it home, put on a new collar and put it on my charger, and remarkably it took a charge and was working. I still use it as a back-up collar and to remember the loss of my best friend. DT is in a league of its own when it comes to E-Collars, the 1820 system as a whole is second to none, not only that but when I had a collar down…just one they made it a purpose to get a replacement out ASAP to get my pup and I back in the hunt FAST! You can't find that anymore…Keep it up!!!SLR

Hatch where 9V battery goes in sticks, looks like it was not manufactured with good tolerances from the factory. There is a visible burr on the edge where it goes in. Clasp is too small and the tongue of it is not secure to the rest of assembly, so it wiggles and moves when you try to put in in a hole. Otherwise a good product electronically. I originally ordered this training collar about a month ago. The first one did not work. I just received the replacement today. I does not work either. The charge indicator light on the collar is green and the remote light works. It does not shock though. it would not activate the tester light, and I even tried it on my leg. NOTHING! Bought this a year & half ago. Never worked as advertised. Flaky – sometimes worked, sometimes not. Bought it mostly for vibrate mode, which is useful for training more than tones. But, then I discovered the unit is NOT water-proof, or even water resistant – and my dogs love to romp in creeks. The collar unit acquired an accumulation of moisture…and quit working completely. Took it apart, dried out for several days, and it started to work again… only sometimes – just like before. Then it died completely. Waste of time & $$. Poor quality and quality control. Internal circuit board appears to be hand soldered (& poor job), and cheap offshore battery. Does not hold a charge as long as other brands (runs down in less than a day, w/ no use), & remote uses 9v battery instead of rechargeable. Poor design. Will not buy any DT Systems product again. Fantastic all in one collar. I love the fact I didn’t have to buy a beeper and stimulation unit separately. I have a small dog, a French Brittany, and thought lower levels of stimulation might be too much as the range is only 1 to 16. But the lower level ranges are fine. Never had to go up past level 5. I’ve had the unit a little over three months. Service was great. Because of the small neck size, and the placement of the stimulation unit and the beeper, it was impossible for me to just put new holes in the collar to tighten it up. I sent it back and they moved them closer together to permit additional holes for my dogs neck size. At no cost. Compared to other collars, for what this offers, it is a great price. It also has the button on top so it is possible to have the transmitter in one hand and still hold a shotgun and fire.Dobbin

I bought this collar because I lost my controller for my tri tronics g3 exp in the field on a Montana hunt. I was happy with my old system but didn't wan't to buy garmin after they changed the product and didn't take care of their customers. I am happy I went with D.T. and I like this system better. The beeper system is what makes this collar better. I really like using the beeper to locate my dog in thick cover. I also like the fact that the controller is light and orange so I have a better chance of finding it if for some reason I misplace it. The downfall of the system is it doesn't have a rechargeable battery in the controller and the collar needs to be more adjustable for a smaller neck size.vomtsc

I bought this collar two years ago to help train my deaf Australian cattle dog. I have been very pleased with its performance and durability. The dog has worn it almost every day, swimming most summer days, and have had no issues or malfunctions with it. I won this collar set (included add on collar) at a Pheasants Forever banquet in 2013 and have been using it ever since without any issues! I have owned other brand collars with a beeper system but this one stands out. I got this one to try with my GWP and couldn't be happier. It's so simple to use which is what my wife's main complaint was about the other brand. You can change levels, change beeper modes all without having to take your eye off what your dog within just a few uses. The battery last forever it seems like. I have forgotten to charge it the night before a hunt and thought I would be in a bind but not with this one. I would recommend to anyone who uses a beeper. There are no one and off tones which I have had on my other collars which can cause confusion to your dog. The range is great as well.JFH

I had searched online and could not find a bark collar that was safe for my 4 pound t cup schnauzer. She is an amazing dog, but barked so much that it was disturbing to ourselves and our neighbors. The collars at the Pet Stores said they were only safe for 8 pounds and up, so I could not consider them. I was delighted to find this particular collar. I figured if it didn't work, I could always return it to my local Walmart. But much to our delight. it works perfectly. It was hard to watch her cry the first time we put it on, but after the first day, she figured it out and I don't even have to turn it on now…If I simply put the collar on her, she won't bark. I only need to use it a couple times each day, when the gardener or pool man comes, but thankfully we now have peace and quiet in our home. I am very thankful for this product. Today is only day 1 of using the barking collar but it was the best purchase EVER. This product saved me so much headache and stress. I have a BLUE TICK HOUND that has the LOUDEST bark. It came in a timely manner. Directions were OK. It took several overnight charges for the beep to sound when tested, although I've never heard it while the dog is wearing the collar. We adjusted the collar several times, making it tighter each time. This dog is an older SPCA shelter dog, so we don't know his background. He has cataracts and is hard of hearing, so he barks at shadows and vehicle engine sounds that we don't always hear. We've tried to control his barking without success, with water spray in the face, ultrasonic sound, dog whistle, and the Bark Boss. None have worked including this. This was an 2nd collar purchased because my dog got ahold of her 1st one and chewed a large section off the end of the collar strap which degraded to effective range of the collar. I added this collar for hunting my second GSP and could not be happier. It's very easy to switch from dog to dog and the versatility of the "nick" button is great! The only thing I would recommend is a twist lock cap for the beeper. Lost the muffle cap on both collars after the first outing, which isn't a big deal, but would be nice to have.HoytnTrapper

This e-collar is definitely worth the extra money hands down as its a safer option for counter-conditioning out some nasty habits. Whether it be resource guarding, dog based aggressive tendencies, human based reactivity, or long-term rehabilitation of stubborn habits. This collar is the way to go. Larger dogs require larger solutions and this collar is much more comfortable as its not as sharp compared to some. this e collar is amazing. My 100lb plotthound is a wanderer. When the other two dogs were out playing in the yard, we'd have to keep him on a long lead, which prevented him from fully playing free with our other dogs. … we tried numerous times to start on the lead, then let him off and continuously do call and reward, but eventually, he'd always sneak over to the neighbors. With The Boss I'm able to correct his behavior from across the yard. It took less than one week to get him fully trained. Works on my 120lb Pyrenees lab mutt! He has thick hair. Hes stubborn as all heck. I had to turn the power down to 35% there is plenty left if a deer comes I can juice it up for his safety (if needed.) most of the time 35 will stop him. I rarely need to shock him now. He knows how to win. The only thing I use the collar for is the come here command as that is the most important command ever and I dont want to confuse him. I've tried several of these collars but my main issue has always been that they would need batteries every few days and the batteries were really expensive. This one is rechargeable – both the collar and the remote. I also love that it has the vibration feature so I can warn my dog before I actually have to "shock" her. So far since we've had it, she's only been shocked twice. She is a completely changed dog. We went from a dog who jumped up on me when I came in the house, barked at every person walking by and chased the cats incessantly to a very well behaved dog who now does none of those things. We rarely ever even have to use the stimulation. The product seems very sturdy and the remote is very colorful and bigger than most others so it never gets lost. It has a lanyard so you can wear it around your neck but that is somewhat awkward for me. I think that would be very useful when bringing her out in the public which is our next adventure.MichiganDogLover

The collar receives and charger work just fine, but the transmitter does not work well…it lost its charge and I can't recharge it…so it's a very expensive one-time-use collar. We adopted a dog who is a nervous guy and not food motivated. He would bark at people walking by our house and wouldn’t come when he was called. Four months ago we picked up a 3 year old yellow lab at a shelter near Denver. The dog is lovable, has had some hunting experience, but was WILD when we got him. It was necessary to keep him tethered at all times, or he was GONE for 20 minutes pursuing some scent in the nearby forest (we back up to public land). I purchased this device in the hopes I could control him. To my surprise I discovered he must have had some time with a similar device. He instantly responded to the Tone/Vibration mode. When he would start to take off, one tap on that mode made him instantly come back. Only if he chased a deer on hikes did I have to "tingle" him a little. He would immediately drop the chase. I bought the sport dog 425x for my lab a few months ago & loved it but it recently fell off him while we were walking on a trail and I was never able to find it.
