These are very high quality durable and useful gates. There are tiny rubber pads under so you know which side to grab after putting away and the ease of the hinges are excellent. They are heavy enough to let the pet know it's stable and it's not a easy move with a nose plus the size and amount of panels make the setting of your area customized to the fit. I actually will buy more so I can use them out on the patio. Our dog understands boundaries and seems satisfied to see us until the entry is opened. I bought one brown which is a nice dark walnut color brown and a white one which both have a nice what I would describe as an enameled type gloss finish for protective wear. You won't be disappointed however if you're looking for a stoppage barrier this is simply a sturdy boundary maker so you would need a secured gate or kennel for that.JJ

I bought this product because our pup was having accidents in the house. I followed the instructions exact. One important part is clean the area then spray it with this product and leave it! Very important because I think the citrus smell is unpleasant to them. I did not think it was strong smelling at all. She did not pee in these areas again. She is now pretty much trained to pee outside. After reading the reviews I really think it all comes down to if the dog finds the smell offensive or not.Hpic

The reviews are very very mixed, so I was super hesitant. I had gotten a kitten and she really likes to have her accidents on the landing of the stairs. Almost 2 months later, I have tried 4 other sprays, carpet scrubber additives, and carpet powders. I have spent $25 on ONE product, and over $150 for all that I've tried. From the first spray, the accidents stopped. Its been over a week now with not a single accident! I spray it once before leaving for work and once before bed! I bought 2 of these gates to keep our 2 dogs separated during the day when we are at work. I put them at both entrances of our great room and let one of the dogs stay in that room while the other one can roam the house. They look great and are much higher quality than I anticipated. The gate plus extensions was one of the only ones I could find for my wide kitchen doorway when we got our new puppy. Easy to install and attractive. I ordered this Ideal Pet Door from Walmart.com to replace the same model Ideal Pet Door originally installed over 10 years ago. Walmart.com had the best price and ordering from their website is convenient with fast shipping. This Ideal Pet Door is the same model with slightly different modifications which makes it a better door than my first one. Removing the old door was very easy to do. Replacing the new door was just as easy. All I needed was a Phillips head screwdriver and my fur~kid supervising me. BTW, The original installation took an hour and was placed into a glass storm door with a solid lower panel. The Pet Door is sturdy and comes with a panel that slides into slots on the inside to block the pet door opening. It can be used when travelling or when you want to keep your pet in or out. It has a magnetic strip on the bottom part of the frame and one on the bottom of the flap which keeps the flap closed. I have never had an unwelcome guest come through the door. The Ideal Pet Door is a great value, construction is flawless and replacement parts are available. It has lasted through years of two rambunctious very bad black labs and I am replacing it by choice. It can be installed in doors, storm doors, sliding patio door inserts and in brick walls. Ideal is well know for their quality pet products and has been in business for decades. Extremely easy to install.* Looks and functions better than expected in an interior door. The screws were a bit long considering the width of the door. I would suggest using shorter screws because they were hard to screw in completely, and I was using a drill to drive the screws! Overall, the door is an excellent value and I would buy another one if needed. I went with a slightly larger door than typically recommended for cats. One reason is that we are expected one cat to grow large. (We think he's a Norwegian forest cat. Before that we guessed Maine Coon.) Also, there are steps immediately on one side of the door, so I figured extra clearance would help. The smaller door would probably work OK for normal sized, fit cats. (*I traced the part that slides through the door, drilled holes where the screw posts fit through, and just cut along those lines with a jig saw. It fit right through perfectly the first time! This gate is a nightmare to fit tightly enough to hold up to any leaning on it from curious children. Pushing down hard enough to get it in place knocks it out of place during install. The latch to open it sticks, and if I pull too hard I disengage it entirely instead of it remaining in the "remember my preferred width" position. It feels so bendy I worry pushing in hard enough will damage it. It is absolutely not functional as a gate for a determined, walking child. Its one advantage is it's low enough to easily step over and so we barely have to take it out thank goodness, but this would not be an advantage if we needed a proper barrier for a child older than maybe 2? Luckily we just need a gentle reminder they're not supposed to enter or leave that room without us in tow. They are strong gates, I have an Alpha-Female German Shepherd, a Doberman, and a crazy Australian Shepherd You have to push down on the handle, then pull up to unlatch. Not hard- Use a little muscle? Sure. You want that in a sturdy gate. I was looking at this product on here only to find the dimensions (because I didn’t want to get out of bed to measure- it’s 3 am) and saw the negative reviews and thought, “What are you people reviewing – their living room curtains?” I couldn’t stand by and let this happen. I love it! It is super easy to open and close. We installed it so that it is hinged. We are able to open it and swing it up against the wall going up the stairway if we choose to leave it open. It is a great way to block off the stairs. I was surprised at how nice it was for the price. It is a very sturdy gate and even the 6 year old can open and close it easily.Jennifer

My husband and I have horses for dogs "kidding!". Our big yellow female Lab took down our "Expanding Wooden Fence" broken in three places. This one is metal nice and tuff works better than I expected. Con: The screws are too small, have 1/2 inch sheet-rock walls used a stud finder then 1 1/4 phillips deck screws to attach plastic anchors. Con: The door on the gate opening is smaller than the expanding wooden fence but works for us. Pro: At the bottom of the new gate I just turned the gate anchors sideways and attached to the baseboard. Just did some minors custom things for my preference: This new gate has a smaller door on the larger door, I have cats so I removed the smaller door so cats can go through all the time. The smaller door hinges are spring loaded. Last the larger door has a stop so the door swings oneway. I used a pair of vice-grips and bent the door stop up. Now the door swings in both directions. All in All it works!8964

We have two five-month old German Shepherd "puppies" and needed to contain them from time to time so they weren't roaming the house getting into anything dangerous. The entryway to the kitchen/dining room was 66", so we bought this Carlson Maxi Gate and also purchased the 24" extension. With the extension, the length was perfect and we attached it to the walls. We used longer bolts as the ones that came with it were kind of short and this gate would have some heavy traffic coming in and out of it. The little pet door is very cute and solved our cat problem, so now they can get in and out of the kitchen without having to manage a colossal jump. However, surprisingly, the door is big enough to allow our "puppies" who are the approximate size of your average Collie, to squeeze through. We solved this by tying some string this way and that to make the little door only open half way, just so the cats can go in but not big enough for the dogs to squeeze through. This will work until they're bigger and then of course we can take the string off. The walk-through gate itself is very easy to use. My only issue with it is that you have to pull up on the lever to open, whereas it would be easier to press down, but the design doesn't allow for that. Regardless, it's very easy for anyone to use, and this was one of my initial concerns before buying it because it was going to be used pretty heavily and I didn't want a struggle every time. Works great, and is much less expensive than many of the other gates I've seen.morlane

My dog fits through the cat door! I have a 30lb 3 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy he is not tiny and goes right through the door. Definitely not meant to be used on puppies or smaller dogs. Also when we had to adjust the length there is now a big mental piece that sticks out into the doorway. Only way to go through is sideways.Angie

Love it. My large dogs wouldnt stay off the furniture and were ruining it. So far my dogs dont want any part of it. They climbed on it once each and never again. Its only been 3 days but so far so good. I do suggest having the foil side up as the crinkle sound has irritating to my dogs. I think they might like the prettier brown side. This works beautifully for my dog, who is afraid of loud noises. He's not allowed on my couch, but we knew he was getting on it while we were away for the day. The product is good, but the packing at the warehouse by Petco is awful. This order was the replacement for the first one, which had leaked its contents all over the inside of the box and was almost empty. So the replacement arrives, and it too had leaked all over the inside of the box. This time, most of the product was still in the bottle. First, like another review, the smell is horrible but only for a few minutes. Second, this is the ONLY product that seems to keep Motown out of the Christmas tree. After irreplaceable broken ornaments and his insistent need to be inside the tree, this stuff works. We’ve tried orange scent and a couple other repellents to no avail. Great product, our male Siamese is kinda neurotic, mostly due to a huge local feral cat population and sprays everything. He also likes to scratch on our bedroom door at 5am to wake us up. It did work the first few hours. My puppy likes to pick her toys and bones up and chew them against the couch but after spraying this she stayed on the floor. This worked fairly well the first few hours but, due to my poor timing, it had no effect on my puppy after that because we had company over and at that point she just did not care and everyone's scent probably overpowered this stuff. I have one cat that will use a post. Two that won’t. We’ve sprayed this on all spots our other cats scratch and didn’t repel them at all. We’ve had to replace three couches already and every doorway molding is scratched so bad they all have to be replaced and I have an entry table that’s very old that’s ruined as well. I bought this spray last week after it was recommended to help keep my cat off of my white tufted chairs. My cat jumps up on the seat of the chair and scratches the back of the chairs. Ive sprayed the chairs when I see her clawing them to keep her off. She does come back to the chairs every couple of days but as soon as I see her up on them I grab the spray and she takes off. She does not like the smell what so ever. I do wish the smell lasted a bit longer but Im also hoping my cat gets the picture soon! I got this to put between the kitchen/dining room and living room so my daughter couldn't get into the kitchen to sneak food. I can't always be there to keep her out so this is perfect for the times I need to be in other parts of the house not knowing what she is getting into. It's just the right height as she is only a couple of inches taller than the gate. We had to add 2×4's on each side of the wall to ensure the gate would be able to close tightly. The gate seems to be sturdy once in place. Just take care when opening and closing it. It would be great for dogs but if they like to jump up to the gate I'm not sure if it would last over time. I have this gate (the 44 in tall one) and it is awesome because it is soo hard to find a tall gate. I have a 4 month old great dane/boxer puppy who goes right over all regular gates. I bought this one and a more expensive metal one, this one I use in a doorway we never use, it cannot be opened/closed all the time, and must be "re-set" each time, so good for somewherte you can just put it up and leave it up. Not good for where you need to open/close it regularly. BUT I knew this when I bought it, and I saved money vs buying a more expensive one for this doorway. Juast know you cant really open it all the time (it WILL break) but after a month it has held up to my GIANT puppy putting his paws on it and pushing it. Good buy for me!!!mommy2twogirlies

I have a pup that is a large breed, he looks like I been feeding him steak and potatoes cause he's so dang big. He is ALL puppy though. Put the flags out, set it on a low static charge, and it didn't take long before he figured it out. You DO have to WORK a dog with this. It's not just a plug it up and watch their hair shoot up when they get popped. Walked him around the perimeter for 7 days, he sees and sniffs the flags. After that, I let him run around, and he got popped maybe 3 times, and figured it out. Now he's pretty dang happy, and I can let him rip around with zoomies while I work in the yard. I have a 2 yr old LARGE French Mastiff that weighs 180ish! I bought with the (red in color) “stubborn” collar. We previously installed a wired underground fence. (Which I have to mention took 2 FULL DAYS TO INSTALL AND READY TO USE!!) My Bo would realize he was close to the boundary, take a step or two back then take a run right through it, with no second thought!!! We watched him do this several times. I guess he was thinking, well this is going to hurt but only for a few short seconds. Idk?? But it did NOT phase him one bit! I had talked to 4 or 5 people that had this system, so reluctantly I decided to give it a try. I thought to myself well if it doesn’t work I will simply return it, no harm no foul. My boyfriend had it installed and collar on Bo in 30 mins flat. We walked ole hard-headed Bo around maybe 4 times to show him the boundaries. Once he heard the beeping, he kept walking then he felt the shock 1 time and that must have been enough because he never ventured close again! It has been about 2 months of use and I would give it 100 STARS IF IT WAS AN OPTION! We live in a subdivision where houses are fairly close. I was ultimately worried that the zone would lead into the neighboring yard. (which was the #1 thing we are trying to prevent) And although it may, Bo doesn’t even attempt to go that far. I believe he now understands to stay in his own yard! Living in a subdivision, many people take walks and Bo just sits and watches them now!! Matter of fact, just to see, we have sent him outside WITHOUT the collar and ironically enough HE STAYS IN OUR YARD!! The ONLY complaint I have is the small clear piece on the collar broke off the first time I went to adjust the strength of the shock. So far it hasn’t effected anything so fingers crossed on that! Just an FYI, we set ours on a level 3 to begin with and my boyfriend was ready to give up, so I told him to have some patience and we just kept adjusting the level on the collar and we ended up discovering for Bo he needed to be set on a #6. Again, I repeat he weighs 180 lbs, and the Mastiff bread is KNOWN for their stubbornness. I would suggest starting at the lowest level for a smaller dog PLEASE! These are the best pads I’ve used so far. I’ve tried them all: charcoal activated, huge ones, small ones, blue ones, green ones…. Everything. My cat has special needs as she is older and doesn’t like the feel of litter in her paws due to arthritis. So we line her litter boxes with these and she uses them happily. These smell nice when you put them out initially and the smell dissipates after a little bit. So the smell isn’t overwhelming. It also hasnt deterred my pet from using them. They’re very absorbent and they’ve never failed me in that sense. They certainly hold lots of urine. But as soon as they’re soiled, they do not mask the smell of urine or feces fully. They help, but they’re not magic after all. We change them out as soon as she uses them and would recommend it for anyone using them for puppy training. However, since walking on the urine will wet their paws and then move the peepee paw marks wherever else they go, as far as “transfer” goes, they’re not 100%. If our girl pees and it catches her back paws, they do get a little wet with pee and we have to wash her little pawpaws. So that’s something to consider.Celeste

I have used these pads 21”x21” for my small dog for years. Multiple pees are accommodated on each pad per day. I use the plastic tray with them. The tray holds the pad in place securely as the dog moves around. They never leak and absorb the urine quickly. I would never use another brand. There is no lure pheromone added to these pads and therefore perfect for animals that are not in training. Use the correct sized pad for the weight of your animal. A large dog in a small pad will cause leakage. Having a pad trained dog is wonderful for the animal and you. My dog can go to the bathroom when needed and doesn’t have to be in the icy cold weather for a pee. Less stress for everyone. Also convenient for traveling as you can provide a pad anywhere and your dog will use it. Takes time to pad train, and starting a puppy is easiest. However, I did train an electrolyte dog to use these late in life. I highly recommend these pads and the appropriate holder tray.luv2shop

On a weekly trip to Walmart, I stopped by the pet aisle to grab the stash of pads I needed for my fur babies. I usually use the blue lined pads in the large size and they work great. This day I accidentally bought the purple lavender scented ones. I figured if anything my living room will have the added pleasure of smelling great. Well then. My 3 adorable ferrets decided that this scent brought them back to the memories of their ancestors and decided to dig up these new pads as if they had a mission to generate a warp-hole to lavender fields of old. Sensing this could be a problem I took the duct tape approach. Lets tape these suckers into the cage so they can be dug up no more! Eureka! Well, no. The story only really begins here. Then one of them actually used the pad. I mean, well how much could a little carpet shark or three really pee right? Upon the first usage of this lavender scented pad my babies cage was covered in a flood like in the days of Noah! I think they released the Kraken! I had synchronize swimmers on my hands. This just did not work. After calling a clean up crew I decided that it just might be best to return to Walmart to pick up a package of the blue lined pads after all, as who could deal with all this on the daily. I purchased this gate because I got a third dog that kept trying to get out the front door and I did not want to worry about her slipping by me. First thought is that this is heavy, well made gate with double hinges. This is high quality! I expected this to be a flimsy gate and its solid and stands on it own. This gate is two feet high. So don't expect it to keep a large dog or a jumping dog in its place. A pushy smart dog would be able to push the gate aside, which is why it comes with feet to give you more support. This works well for me, but I could see why it would not be the anser to all situations. The gate (without feet) stays up even with a 30 pound dog placing her top legs on the gate pleading for you not to leave. 😉 My gate was in the W shape. The expresso color is beautiful and I love how easy this is to move around to fit different door ways. There is a three feet tall option if you need a taller gate.Kuro Kishi

bought this for my 14 week old kittens to keep them out of my sewing room and from the back hall where they keep trying to escape out the back door. I turned them on, set the transmitter to the largest setting and watched them literally sit on the transmitter! I know it is working because I zapped myself accidentally while setting it up. The collars at adjusted to the smallest that it can go. Maybe the kittens are still a bit too small (they weight about 6 pounds each) I will try again in a couple of weeks and see if I have better luck. Will update then. I know correction collars are controversial, but knowing that PetSafe invented both the static mat and the compressed air Sccat, I know that the company makes pet safe items that offer simple correction that isn’t harmful to willful cats. My slightly petulant cat respects the boundaries the collar creates, but it isn’t abusing her. Buy with confidence. The rep even recommended vasiline as a way to get through thick fur. Bought 2 of these to keep my cat away from kitchen counter. Read instructions very carefully. Setup is very finicky, sometimes the transmitter works at a certain range, sometimes it acts as if it was off. Worst thing is that it does not shock my cat. He was just sitting on the counter laughing at me for throwing my money out. He is a domestic Short hair cat. I even trimmed his fur after the first unsuccesful try (as suggested by the manual) cat is still having great times on the counter. I can't see how it would work for a larger pet, a dog for example.Max.

I have really mixed feelings on the Pawz Away Threshold Barrier. The product works as advertised, keeps the dog off the steps and away from the upper level of our house. I know it doesnt "hurt" the dog, but I do not like the collar with the large prongs on her neck, it makes me uncomfortable to use. I know these are perfect for some people and have a friend who absolutely loves her PetSafe containment system, it is just not for me. I recommend because it does what it says it will do, if you are on the fence about a shock type collar, this is not for you.jenni27

This safe Pawz Away threshold pet barrier is very easy to install into the area you wish your pet not to enter using the adhesive strips or the anchors ( both included). Always a good idea to read the enclosed directions prior to starting. The collar fits well on our young 40lb dog. He got used to it quickly. We placed the barrier at the bottom of the stairs to prevent him from climbing the stairs. The dog learned quite quickly that after a series of beeps, a mild static charge will be delivered. He is easily scared so it only took a short time for him to accept the idea of the beep as a warning. A total of 4-5 days was needed for a complete success. We take the collar off when at home at this point and only replace it when we leave home. One can always purchase an additional barrier bar if you wish to protect access to another area.Sweetness

Pawz Away Threshold Barrier works great with my Labrador. He is very temperamental so when I leave he likes to get into the trash and tear something up to show me he is upset. I put this on the threshold going to the kitchen and it has been great keeping him out. My dog is larger than most labs he weighs 98 pounds so this does work on larger dogs. I also like this because it is not a shock type collar it uses sound to detour him.Shearsheila

Does not work! I used it in our hotel room to stop my Aussie puppy from chewing everything. Right after I let her out of her crate she went straight to were I sprayed and licked it clean. She then started chewing on the furniture even more. Even my cats started licking it. I had to clean up the rest of the spray so my pets would stop licking it. I bought this almost a month ago to help potty train my puppy. I used as directed, daily and it didn't help at all. She continued to go wherever in the house, and even chewed on some of the things that were sprayed with this, daily. Definitely a disappointment.MomofNina

This didn't work on our Goldendoodle, in fact, I think she loves it! I sprayed it on a runner she was biting, instead of biting it, she started having her way with it in other ways, then started peeing on it! That runner is now in a landfill. I sprayed it on our chair and ottoman, she spends more time on it and looks more relaxed than ever!lasting.c
