I am hesitant to use these types of products compulsively for preventive measures. Fortunately, We’ve not been in an area where fleas are out of control outside, as we have had problems in the past with other pets. These types of topical medicines would only be effective for a maximum of 1 1/2 to 2 weeks at best. And then our previous dog, and coincidentally our cat also, developed tumors where these types of medicines were being applied. I can’t say for certain that they were the cause. But it’s very suspicious that it happened in both animals. The dog we noticed first. And maybe a year or so later our cat. They both lived to past 11 years. And our dog was also on meds for epilepsy. Only briefly because he would spit out the meds no matter how clever I thought I was in hiding them. So, since he refused to take them, I stopped trying to make him. His grand mal seizures were frequent and long lasting. But, he just got better at spitting out the pills, even if I shoved them down his throat. i have only had to use these topicals a few times in our current dogs short life, so far. And it seemed to work fine and for as long as it said it was supposed to work. And when she or we seem a bit more itchy, I apply it again, and wait until it’s “needed”, again- as opposed to routinely scheduled once every month. And in my opinion, it works better than capstar, which is meant as a short acting topical to immediately relieve a flea problem getting out of control. But for whatever reason, this works better for us, even though it might take a few days to really notice results. (I never really noticed immediate results with. Capstar. It helped make the problem not get any worse. But it didn’t solve the problem either.)shelly.c

This is just my initial opinion but right off the bat I am seriously impressed with the ingredients. They are truly natural and smell nice, like essential oils. The shampoo is Food Grade so no worries about getting them in your puppy’s mouth (or your own, if your dog isn’t appreciative of your loving efforts). The shampoo is very thin in texture (almost like water or a liquid castile) with almost no sudsing – which is great, especially if you have a thick haired dog. I have a whippet mix and she has no undercoat, and it rinses very easily from her hair. It does mean you go through more product quicker than a more traditionally concentrated shampoo. But I am ok with that. I’d rather save on water not having to rinse and get soaked repeatedly from my puppy shaking out the water 100 times. This did not strip her coat, but left it smelling clean and fresh. She was not itching after she dried either. Clean, rain is the best way I can describe how it smells. It’s not strongly scented, which is great, but unscented would be my preference because dogs have such sensitive noses. This is a nice natural eco-friendly shampoo option for your pets that doesn’t contain all the harmful chemicals that some other products can contain. I love that it’s a healthier option for our loving pets. It is very strongly scented but it is the natural essential oils in the product that it contains. This scene may not be for everyone though. I found that it was a great shampoo for both of my dogs but it did exaggerate and further irritate a few irritated spots that one of my dogs already had. She is highly allergic to fleas and I could not get her to the vet before her prescription ran out but she did go a few days after and is on the mend now. Although the spots were already there the ingredients further irritated and caused more intense itching which is why I docked a star because it is supposed to help with itching. The formula is just a little watery, but it does lather up nicely overall. The scent is light and pleasant, not too overpowering. This made my dog’s coat soft and shiny, but also seemed to be gentle on his skin. As far as protection goes, he typically never has fleas, but ticks are a HUGE problem in our area. I am typically pulling them off of him on a weekly basis. I have been using the Neem system for perhaps 3 weeks now, and have pulled 3 ticks from him so far. Oh man, I guess I was assuming the Flea Flicker Tick Kicker’s smell would also be slight ( like the Protect Neem shampoo) sprayed him down in our master bathroom. Huge mistake. It really smells like an old lady perfume and filled the room with the same determination! Don’t make the same mistake, spray it outside in open air! It cleared the room of fleas, ticks, and people alike. Thankfully, the smell didn’t linger too long on his coat like it did in our room. That said, we do travel/hike a lot and he goes in the cars and RV so it’s important that he has good tick/flea repellent. I received this product for free to try and write a review. To start, the smell of this is really strong in smaller spaces. I personally made the mistake of using it on my dog in the bath tub after a quick dry off from his normal bath. I ended up getting the spray hitting the back of the tub and coming towards my face. I did get a bit on my tongue, which I had some discomfort for about an hour – but thankfully none of the ingredients are toxic to humans for the amount that got in my mouth. Aside from the mishap – which I completely take responsibility for because in hindsight that was a bit dumb, it seems great. My dog has sensitive skin, and it doesn't seem to be reacting to him. He seems quite content with it. From his normal walks, no fleas or ticks – but we're still in the early days of spring and the weather isn't quite warm enough to determine if this will hold up all summer long. I took in a stray and the vet diagnosed her with sarcoptic mange after a scrape test. Sarcoptic mange is very contagious between dogs (and even humans can get it) so we immediately put her on nexguard to take care of the infestation. Still, nexguard takes some time to work and in the meantime she would not stop scratching and biting. I purchased this and applied it to her skin and within an hour or two the scratching eased immensely. You can see the relief on her face, and she can actually nap now. I have used Happy Jack flea dip for years. I was a dog breeder and when fleas hit, you need to get rid of them ASAP. Otherwise, your house becomes quickly infested. I have used Happy Jack 40+ years but after moving off the farm 15 years ago forgot all about it and began using holistic medications, etc. Well, I do rescue and got a little jack russell with 70% of her body scarlet, oozie red, infected red ears, thick red, hairless legs, tail, chest and face. She had been ill for so long her skin was very thick and discolored. I spent hundred of dollars for 4 months without results then ran across Happy Jack again in the Tractor Supply. I bought mange medicine instead of the dip I had used before and, within 32 (I counted them) hours, her itching has stopped, her skin is now pink not red and her little swollen paws and now a normal size. I will continue to use according to the directions to make sure this is gone but might switch to the dip to treat her in 30 day cycles. My dog was scratching constantly causing hot spots an scratches that bled a little not to mention she had this smell that's was offensive. I tried other products and then I heard of this one from a friend, bought it and brought home and put it in a spray bottle to evenly spray her entire body (except in her ears, eyes, mouth or sanitary areas) and to my surprise I Seen instant relief for her and she was able to sleep peacefully and so was I. You might want to buy a few bottles because you'll have to make sure your pet is wet and massage it into their skin (use gloves) might want to cover areas where your offer lays until your pet is dry. I bought all mange treatments from happy jack… I have a white pit with enlarged paw found out it was NOT yeast like the lying vet said it was…..another vet told me it was cancer? only after years of bull! money sucking vet visits! to find out it was mange attacking the animals for YEARS ! Been using this product for years…and really helps cut down on flea/tick population, as well as their flea/tick product. I use a 28oz spray bottle for now..but I use 3oz's of BioGroom F/T Pyrethrin Dip & fill the rest with warm water..shake well. Every morning, I spray the dogs bedding, besides doing my top bed cover. Next day..I use a 'sticky roller' to collect what "pest" died on our bed covers. UNBELIEVABLE Shock…but it's worked great for us Girls(3-shihtzu's). I also use 1/4-cup+laundry soap every week in washing the girls bedding(I use baby crib sheets+mattress fitting pad to cover their main comfy zipliner pad beds). The smell of the BGF/T-P does not bother at least hasn't ..my girls, they jump right back onto their beds…take their daytime naps/night-sleep. Listen. I live in Vermont and ticks are CRAZY this year. There’s literally news stories about how bad they are. They’re so thick our dogs would get them and then carry them inside and the indoor cats would end up with them. However, since using this product (my dog only eats two a day) there has been ZERO tick issues. My dog is literally doing better than my other dog who is on prescription medication for ticks. Also? My friend uses a natural flea/tick squeeze on topical for her dog, but from my personal experience, those do not work too well. My cat plays with her dog, and I get worried about a possible flea infection breaking out from the dog to my cat. This is where the treat comes in as an extra boost of protection from a infestation. The dog was hesitant to eat the treat at first, essentially spitting it out. I gently coaxed her to eat the treat as time passed . Now, she gobbles these treats down with gusto! In the past, I have given my dog oral medication to prevent flea and ticks. It worked well but I was never comfortable with the fact that he had to ingest the medicine. I decided we’d use a topical solution for this summer and this is working great so far. The application was easy and the the applicator worked well. I’ve had to apply a different brand on foster puppies in the past and sometimes, the liquid would just all flow right out during the first contact, leaving no medicine for the rest of the dog’s back. It wasn’t the case with PetArmor. I had good control to dispense the product with their applicator. My dog had no discomfort whatsoever on the application sites. Finally something that works consistently. After trying probably 10-15 brands of flea and tick stuff for my Dogs this is the company I come back to. Ive tried expensive stuff, Ive tried dirt cheap stuff. This works and works FAST. I actually have to put my dogs out if they have fleas on them at all. Within 30 minutes they are jumping off to get away and die. Weve had issues with super fleas here in northeast USA where the only thing Ive found to work is old fashion dawn dish soap and salt.Ive literally spread salt on all my floors so it looks like snow and left it sit over night then vacuum it up and then mop with dawn dish soap, everyday for over a week straight. This is my first time using this product. Prviously I used frontline but was concerned about putting strong chemicals on my dogs skin. After applying the spot on, my dogs hair is sticking up as the liquid seems to have spread all along their necks and looks awful. I think I will have to wash it off as both dogs look stupid

Good for making doggy smell good between baths. I don't know why they advertise this stuff as flee repellant. It isn't. And keep away from doggy's head. This stuff is so strong that it could cause serious health issues. Remember doggy's have very sensitive sinus and could maybe be harmed by the strong smell. Keep on back and belly only.johnwynt

Been using this product for many years. It keeps ticks off my dog and off ME, too! My friend uses it on her mini-horse when we take walks on the wooded trails. I see the ticks fall off the horse's hocks! Altho' it is strong smelling (of cloves) and my dog isn't crazy about it, it does work and is a much better option to sprays containing DEET. I am giving 4 out of 5 stars because I would like a larger container to refill the small spray bottle out of.anotherdoglover

It's very distressing to find 3 happy engorged ticks on your dog 24 hours after treatment following all the requirements re: proper placement location on the dog, shaved the hair to make contact only on the skin, no water on the dog for 24 hours or at all after treatment. I was frankly, pretty shocked. This is an older small dog with arthritis. He is already in some pain and to find the ticks on him on top of this frankly really upset me. I breed Chihuahuas and I also foster cats/kittens. My Chihuahuas are litter box trained so they rarely get fleas because they dont spend a whole lot of time outside. Even when we go for walks, theyre in a dog stroller lol. Anyways… I fostered a litter of kittens that were found outside and covered in fleas. I gave them all dawn baths because they were too small for any flea medicine and my Chihuahuas ended up with fleas. I needed a product that was safe for pregnant/ nursing mama which frontline is. Finally something that works consistently. After trying probably 10-15 brands of flea and tick stuff for my Dogs this is the company I come back to. Ive tried expensive stuff, Ive tried dirt cheap stuff. This works and works FAST. I actually have to put my dogs out if they have fleas on them at all. Within 30 minutes they are jumping off to get away and die. Weve had issues with super fleas here in northeast USA where the only thing Ive found to work is old fashion dawn dish soap and salt.Ive literally spread salt on all my floors so it looks like snow and left it sit over night then vacuum it up and then mop with dawn dish soap, everyday for over a week straight. This stuff not only took care of the fleas on the dogs and cats but the ones in the house would jump on the dogs would die to. Havent had an issue since.Corvet08
