It's not extra large, that's for sure. It's a large. My two Berner males at 94-lbs and 120-lbs don't go in because they can barely turn around in it. Nor my 88-lb Pyrenees. The material itself is great. But isn't the point that the dog can get in/out of it so they use it? My smaller 72-lb female uses her Ex-Lg. So is it really the size a medium dog should use? I own 6 of these quality XL dog houses for my Great Pyrenees dog, as well as, my pygmy goats. My goats actually prefer them to there fully enclosed barn. MINNESOTA Winter or Summer, they love to cuddle sometimes 2-3 per igloo. I have never needed to use the flap doors. I think the ventilation is more important. As a bonus they are a great climbing structure, even my guardian dog can be found balancing on top to get a better view of potential predators in the distance. One temporary drawback is the base can be difficult to disassemble from the top, for the first few cleanings. But a large screw drivers works well to pry them apart and they "break in" quite quickly. As my herd grows, I will keep adding these amazing shelters. Thanks Petmate!

I have been using these large Permate dog houses to house my Nigerian Dwarf goats for many years. They have made "affordable housing" for my goats. I will say that my bucks (boys) are much harder on the houses than the does (girls). Both genders jump on top, but the bucks crack the rain shield by jumping on top of the houses. This happens after a while, not right away. I don't blame the company that makes these because they are intended for dogs, not goats that love to climb! I do wish the tops would be stronger to prevent this problem from happening. Another area to improve design would be for the top to somehow lock on to the base. When my Great Pyrenees (GP) dog goes inside to lay down, the lid can lift/tilt off. The large size is not big enough for a GP. The price keeps going up, and I'm not pleased with having to pay more. I wait until the neighbor club coupon comes out to buy any needed replacement houses. Over the years I've bought countless Permate Large dog houses, so I know these pretty well! Looks very nice and hardy but it floods when it rains, I don't know how but the water gets inside and it is too much water. I put a crate pad inside for my outdoor cat to stay warm and went to check on my cat a few hours later after it rained, and the pad was soaking wet not to mention the house was full of water more water than what was outside . The dog house comes in two parts – top and bottom. They do not snap together; the top merely sits on the bottom. No hardware is provided to attach the two and even if there was there are no holes through which one would thread screws or bolts (or whatever) to keep the dog house together. I use these for my goats because these houses are inexpensive but the goats knowingly and regularly have fun pushing up on the exit/entrance hole to "break" the house into two pieces. Yes, I laugh at their antics but I still plan to drill holes and use nuts/bolts to keep the top and bottom together.L McGaffey

We just got ours 2 days ago. It was deklivered by UPS during the aftermath of hurricane Ida. The UPS man needed help unloading it and when I actually got it out of the weather I noticed the box was damaged. Got the wife to come and take pictures of the damage as I unpacked it. It wasn't actually too bad except for the roof being cracked, but not beyond what I can possibly repair. Multiple places there are either screws lost or obvious cracks in the material. I will repair it as well as I can and then trrow a few coats of Epoxy paint on and IN it to protect the wood. The kennal itself was in stock and went together easily. As my pups will be spending only a few hours in it I decided to keep it and repair it. I know there are at leaast 10 screws and bolts missing because the hardware packet was partially opened and some parts had obviously fallen out of the shipping container.Bogey1
I give five stars because for the price I believe it is a nice dog house. Steel framing seems sturdy and it comes with a composite floor that will not rot. I found it easy to put together, but I could see how others may not think it is easy. Parts labeled very well and squared up well on assembly. I recommend putting together on flat concrete and only move after installing after all self tapping srews are in place. Only negative thing I would have to say is that the walls are a little thin for my liking. I feel they could be a little thicker. Also i like how it attaches to the retriever kennel. This dog house is a huge waste of money. I plan on returning mine today. First off, the wooden panels are paper thin and the floor will bow under little weight. I'm actually afraid my dog would chew out of the house very quickly. There were some parts of the instructions that didn't say which way smaller parts should be facing, and you would go through all the trouble to put it together then find out that one small part had to be flipped, but the instructions were not clear about some parts. I rebuilt this dog house probably 5 times because parts just didn't fit well at all for some reason. Oh and you DO need a drill because part of it want's you to drill screws through the metal frame because for some reason the holes were not included in the frames? The metal frame is cheap and easily bends under little weight. The only reason I even got this doghouse is because I have the retriever kennel that goes with it. Do yourself a favor and get a better quality dog house or build a good one yourself.James009

These are nice dog houses. They are light weight & don't look like they are very warm, but they actually do a good job, my border collies like these a lot. I bought my first about 20 years ago, then shortly after bought another. My dogs passed, so I gave them to a neighbor, which still has them in use. I recently got a medium breed puppy, so I went and got another since I had such good service out of the first two. I would highly recommend to anyone with a pet outside. We get some snow where I live and my dogs always stayed warm and dry.
I mistakenly bought the Large doghouse for dogs up to 90 lbs. But my 5 month old coonhound was too large for it. I returned it and ordered the X-large doghouse and it is the right size. Unfortunately, the doghouse was broken in two places, probably due to the way you ship. These doghouses are delivered without any protection and will crack or break when sliding into anything. This kennel is strong. The tie-down holes, one per corner, go through both the top half and the bottom half of the kennel, which is an excellent improvement over no tie down holes. Another improvement over the old version is that water cannot collect on top since there are no bowl-like indentations on the top. The door is heavy construction, and can be mounted as Left or Right swing. I put the kennel on the passenger's side of the vehicle so that I can use the empty space behind the driver for carrying a jug of water, leashes, and other stuff. The advertised length is 40", but be aware that the usable length or "inside" length is 33". This is adequate if your dog is 33" or less from the top of the tail to the end of his front nails, while lying in the "sphinx" position. ONE CON: There are no drainage holes in the bottom half. I plan to drill my own (well, get the hubby to do it). A suggestion for the manufacturer: Make a Truck Version of the kennel. It would be the same as this except for two changes: (1) Add drain holes, and (2) Make the top rear panel (opposite the door) from transparent acrylic, so the driver can see through it. This would be a safety feature, as the blind spot would be reduced.Karen

The crate had obviously been used and returned. The metal was rusted in places and the plastic bottom tray was dirty. When I decided to return it, It was a challenge to get it back in the box. When I took it back to the store, I asked about a discount and received 15% off (the tax). I had previously bought one that was marked down by 50% because the box was damaged. I've owned dogs for the last 40 years. I've used MidWest wire crates for my last 4 dogs. This iCrate didn't disappoint. It's sturdy and and easy to put up and take down. I use them when I travel with my dogs too. My dogs only use their crates for sleeping in at night or napping in during the day. During the day, their crate doors are left open. I close the dogs in at night. I don't have an issue with my dogs trying to escape from their crates, so I can't speak to whether or not this would be sturdy enough for a dog that's determined to get out of their crate. These crates are more than sturdy enough for my miniature Schnauzer, Havanese, and Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. All three of my dogs love their MidWest iCrates, as did my previous dog! They go in them voluntarily and when told to "crate up". My only concern with the current crate I ordered is that that one of the latches isn't lined up quite right so it's a bit tight when closing the crate door. We bought this in April 2022 for our Rhodesian Ridgeback mix puppy. He was weeks old when we rescued him. He was a Parvo pup and barely survived, so rest and his own quiet space was highly recommended for recovery. We first used the divider which was great. However, as he grew, so did his strength. It definitely is not strong enough for large dogs. Even for short amounts of time. At the moment he is 6 months and 60 pounds. Thankfully he did not get out nor hurt himself! The crate had obviously been used and returned. The metal was rusted in places and the plastic bottom tray was dirty. When I decided to return it, It was a challenge to get it back in the box. When I took it back to the store, I asked about a discount and received 15% off (the tax). I had previously bought one that was marked down by 50% because the box was damaged. I was quite disappointed in the whole experience. Apparently the merchandise was supposed to be checked if the box was damaged and that wasn’t done in this case.Janice
I've owned dogs for the last 40 years. I've used MidWest wire crates for my last 4 dogs. This iCrate didn't disappoint. It's sturdy and and easy to put up and take down. I use them when I travel with my dogs too. My dogs only use their crates for sleeping in at night or napping in during the day. During the day, their crate doors are left open. I close the dogs in at night. I don't have an issue with my dogs trying to escape from their crates, so I can't speak to whether or not this would be sturdy enough for a dog that's determined to get out of their crate. These crates are more than sturdy enough for my miniature Schnauzer, Havanese, and Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. All three of my dogs love their MidWest iCrates, as did my previous dog! They go in them voluntarily and when told to "crate up". My only concern with the current crate I ordered is that that one of the latches isn't lined up quite right so it's a bit tight when closing the crate door. I bent it slightly and it works much better. I haven't had that issue with any of the previous MidWest crates I've used. I'm a MidWest crate fan.Eddie09
We bought this in April 2022 for our Rhodesian Ridgeback mix puppy. He was weeks old when we rescued him. He was a Parvo pup and barely survived, so rest and his own quiet space was highly recommended for recovery. We first used the divider which was great. However, as he grew, so did his strength. It definitely is not strong enough for large dogs. Even for short amounts of time. At the moment he is 6 months and 60 pounds. Thankfully he did not get out nor hurt himself! DO NOT BUY!!! Our puppy was sleeping in her kennel when she woke up whining in pain. Come to find out one of the wires were loose and she got it stabbed through her paw pad. I’m beyond mad at this point. Highly don’t recommend. If you already own it make sure to check all wires are properly welded to the kennel. You can barely see some blood on her fur and she won’t let me look at it more. Thankfully we just happen to have a vet appointment today. There are so many issues with these crates I don’t even know where to begin. We didn’t just get one and have it malfunction, every single crate is horrible. We have 6 currently and they are all destroyed in one way or another. First off is the metal, it breaks so easily!! My dog broke off a metal bar up top, my sisters dog has ripped off multiple bars, one bar broke and pierced right through her paw pad, she ripped off another bar on the door and ripped one off the bottom. And the bottom part of the crate is horrible!! It looks sturdy but in reality it’s this incredibly flimsy plastic material that is easily ripped apart so now our dogs don’t have bottoms for their crates🤦🏻♀️ Our dogs are also no older than a year, 4 of them still being puppies with the youngest being 6 months and they managed too easily destroy these crates. Another issue we have is they do not stay up! They are collapsible crates and two of our puppies have learned how too collapse the back of the crate and escape so we’ve now had too tie them off. Overall these crates are horrible, highly dangerous and a complete waste of money.Justine Farnan
This cage came bent up like something heavy was sitting on it. Also the bottom lock on the cage looks stretched out. For $78 this cage seems extremely flimsy. I wish I would’ve went with a plastic crate instead. This was definitely not worth $78 . However customer service said the store will contact me tomorrow to deliver a non damaged cage and pick up this one. When someone is customer service gives their word, from my experience with walmart they do not follow through. Then when you call back the next person has no idea what you’re talking about and apologizes that you have misinformation. I hope they come tomorrow like I was advised. However I would return this cage for a crate instead. The quality sucks. I should’ve went to unleashed or petco or ordered from Amazon. I had been rigging my dogs summer tent to shelter my stray cat..I fed her, so she’s mine lol…but it just wasn’t cutting it anymore and it is oddly cold this winter here in Alabama. I added a heavy layer of straw, some fleece blankets and she moved right on in! I feel better knowing she is safe, warm, well fed & happy! This thing is so annoying. I purchased it for my daughter this morning (in store for $5 more, ugh) and have had to put that freaking door back on about 50 times already. You look at it funny and it falls off. The slide doesn't connect well, it's always falling off. You put your dog through the front door and it's wedged against the stairs. I’ve had two of this exact model before (but blue) and enjoyed it, but I passed them to a rescue adoption family. (The kittens were trained with them so it seemed fitting). I automatically repurchased the same because they lasted 8 years already and still looked great. They’re well built but the handle is on the top door, press fit onto the wire. Therefore it flexes with heavier pets. You can’t move the handle elsewhere because then it wouldn’t be central for carrying and then it doesn’t lay flat so they can’t be stacked well for storage & transit. Lastly, the measurements are of the outer dimension. So if you look at the bubble-shape design in the photo, you can see the pet’s floor space is a little less than the overall outer dimension. That’s cozy for smaller pets and really helps it stay centered in a forward faced position (buckled-in) on car seat cushions. Unfortunately, my 12 year old fat cat is too big to lay out and turn around in the size I got. I returned it with no problems and will switch to a carrier with more cubical or straight upright wall design so my pet can make use of more of the whole dimension it takes up. These also have no quick releases, so when you put it together (top bolts onto bottom), it isn’t meant to be taken apart between trips. That’s okay for ready stored carriers, but I’d like to use one that makes an open bed when not on the move, and stacks tiny for storage otherwise. This carrier is also not rated for air travel, if that’s what you need. However if none of these little issues apply to you, I can definitely recommend this as I had two for over 8 years and they still look pretty new. They fit the cheap standard washable fuzzy beds from Menards and are very easy to clean & disinfect as well. (Don’t use bleach or alcohol on plastics. Use quaternary ammonium compounds for viruses and bacteria, or peroxide for pet parasites with cysts, like CDC says. Bleach and alcohol can etch plastics, making them fragile or brittle, and making surfaces more receptive to harboring various pathogens over time).
We where having a hard time getting our cat into our old kennel with just the front door, he does not like going into the kennel but we had to move and he had to go with us. This kennel with the top door worked perfect. This kennel is made very well and sturdy, my old kennel had clips holding it together that broke and fell off, this one has big screws that you hand tighten that look like they will last a while. Wow! This dog cave arrived faster than the expected date and my chihuahuas love it! I have 3 chihuahuas between 4-8 pounds and the two 4 pound dogs can snuggle in it together. It took one night before they were jockeying for ownership of the bed. My dogs sleep in a garage where temps don’t get below 50 degrees on any given night, but I still worry it’s too cold for them when the temps outside are in the teens, so bought this for my piece of mind. The material itself is great. But isn't the point that the dog can get in/out of it so they use it? My smaller 72-lb female uses her Ex-Lg. So is it really the size a medium dog should use? I spent $$ for 5 Extra Lg and 1 dog uses it. Not a happy camper.SCloudcroft

MINNESOTA Winter or Summer, they love to cuddle sometimes 2-3 per igloo. I have never needed to use the flap doors. I think the ventilation is more important. As a bonus they are a great climbing structure, even my guardian dog can be found balancing on top to get a better view of potential predators in the distance. One temporary drawback is the base can be difficult to disassemble from the top, for the first few cleanings. But a large screw drivers works well to pry them apart and they "break in" quite quickly. As my herd grows, I will keep adding these amazing shelters. Thanks Petmate!

Although the carrier was more expensive with Hayneedle, I ordered 2 because they prominently advertised that it was the color Bleached Linen and everyone else was showing a two-tone tan and black. I have 2 in Linen already and wanted 2 more to match. The ones I received were tan and black. The carrier quality is fine and up to the standard of my 2 older ones, but these are not as advertised. This crate is not safe for a puppy. Our 9 week old pup tried biting on the wire door of the crate and got her teeth caught and could not get off without our help. She was frightened. I removed the door so she can go in and out at will. Maybe it will work when she is bigger. Caution!Laurie
Great kennel. Even better shipping, came to my house in 2 days after ordering. I wouldn't go off of the weight recommendation when purchasing this kennel for your dog- the XL says for dogs 50-70 lbs and my golden is 60 lbs however my golden although being within the weight limit was a tad bit too long for this size. I did take it back to my local Petco to exchange for a slightly larger size (size 40 inches in length) and the store's customer service was phenomenal in helping me with my exchange. Size your dog accordingly with a measuring tape when purchasing the proper kennel size- your dog should be able to sit inside, turn around, and lay down comfortably.Tanya Q
