I have been using these large Permate dog houses to house my Nigerian Dwarf goats for many years. They have made "affordable housing" for my goats. I will say that my bucks (boys) are much harder on the houses than the does (girls). Both genders jump on top, but the bucks crack the rain shield by jumping on top of the houses. This happens after a while, not right away. I don't blame the company that makes these because they are intended for dogs, not goats that love to climb! I do wish the tops would be stronger to prevent this problem from happening. Another area to improve design would be for the top to somehow lock on to the base. When my Great Pyrenees (GP) dog goes inside to lay down, the lid can lift/tilt off. The large size is not big enough for a GP. The price keeps going up, and I'm not pleased with having to pay more. I wait until the neighbor club coupon comes out to buy any needed replacement houses. Over the years I've bought countless Permate Large dog houses, so I know these pretty well! Looks very nice and hardy but it floods when it rains, I don't know how but the water gets inside and it is too much water. I put a crate pad inside for my outdoor cat to stay warm and went to check on my cat a few hours later after it rained, and the pad was soaking wet not to mention the house was full of water more water than what was outside . The dog house comes in two parts – top and bottom. They do not snap together; the top merely sits on the bottom. No hardware is provided to attach the two and even if there was there are no holes through which one would thread screws or bolts (or whatever) to keep the dog house together. I use these for my goats because these houses are inexpensive but the goats knowingly and regularly have fun pushing up on the exit/entrance hole to "break" the house into two pieces. Yes, I laugh at their antics but I still plan to drill holes and use nuts/bolts to keep the top and bottom together.L McGaffey

We just got ours 2 days ago. It was deklivered by UPS during the aftermath of hurricane Ida. The UPS man needed help unloading it and when I actually got it out of the weather I noticed the box was damaged. Got the wife to come and take pictures of the damage as I unpacked it. It wasn't actually too bad except for the roof being cracked, but not beyond what I can possibly repair. Multiple places there are either screws lost or obvious cracks in the material. I will repair it as well as I can and then trrow a few coats of Epoxy paint on and IN it to protect the wood. The kennal itself was in stock and went together easily. As my pups will be spending only a few hours in it I decided to keep it and repair it. I know there are at leaast 10 screws and bolts missing because the hardware packet was partially opened and some parts had obviously fallen out of the shipping container.Bogey1
I give five stars because for the price I believe it is a nice dog house. Steel framing seems sturdy and it comes with a composite floor that will not rot. I found it easy to put together, but I could see how others may not think it is easy. Parts labeled very well and squared up well on assembly. I recommend putting together on flat concrete and only move after installing after all self tapping srews are in place. Only negative thing I would have to say is that the walls are a little thin for my liking. I feel they could be a little thicker. Also i like how it attaches to the retriever kennel. This dog house is a huge waste of money. I plan on returning mine today. First off, the wooden panels are paper thin and the floor will bow under little weight. I'm actually afraid my dog would chew out of the house very quickly. There were some parts of the instructions that didn't say which way smaller parts should be facing, and you would go through all the trouble to put it together then find out that one small part had to be flipped, but the instructions were not clear about some parts. I rebuilt this dog house probably 5 times because parts just didn't fit well at all for some reason. Oh and you DO need a drill because part of it want's you to drill screws through the metal frame because for some reason the holes were not included in the frames? The metal frame is cheap and easily bends under little weight. The only reason I even got this doghouse is because I have the retriever kennel that goes with it. Do yourself a favor and get a better quality dog house or build a good one yourself.James009

I bought my first about 20 years ago, then shortly after bought another. My dogs passed, so I gave them to a neighbor, which still has them in use. I recently got a medium breed puppy, so I went and got another since I had such good service out of the first two. I would highly recommend to anyone with a pet outside. We get some snow where I live and my dogs always stayed warm and dry.
I mistakenly bought the Large doghouse for dogs up to 90 lbs. But my 5 month old coonhound was too large for it. I returned it and ordered the X-large doghouse and it is the right size. Unfortunately, the doghouse was broken in two places, probably due to the way you ship. These doghouses are delivered without any protection and will crack or break when sliding into anything. I will have to repair it to hold it together since I don't trust you are able to send another one without the same issues.Daniel

My guinea pigs enjoy climbing on top of this hidey. I have three male piggies- as they got older, I had to eventually cut another opening on the side of this hidey due to boar dominance issues during the teenage hormonal months. Given that it was plastic, cutting another opening on the side was easy. This product is easy to clean with a quick rinse. Recently, I’ve been designing their cage with only wooden houses and items, but they always prefer this plastic hidey instead of the elaborate and expensive items. The general idea of this product is great! A hideaway and a platform? Awesome! But then after I purchased this for my guinea she would go look in it and step right out. She wouldn’t lay in it. She wouldn’t sleep in it. I felt horrible so I had to exchange it for one of the little barn looking ones. The steps took away from the amount of space inside the hideaway. She tried to walk up the steps and slipped and avoided them after that. As I said, the idea is great. But the actual product needs improvement, at least from my viewpoint. When I took it back to the store, I asked about a discount and received 15% off (the tax). I had previously bought one that was marked down by 50% because the box was damaged. I've owned dogs for the last 40 years. I've used MidWest wire crates for my last 4 dogs. This iCrate didn't disappoint. It's sturdy and and easy to put up and take down. I use them when I travel with my dogs too. My dogs only use their crates for sleeping in at night or napping in during the day. During the day, their crate doors are left open. I close the dogs in at night. I don't have an issue with my dogs trying to escape from their crates, so I can't speak to whether or not this would be sturdy enough for a dog that's determined to get out of their crate. These crates are more than sturdy enough for my miniature Schnauzer, Havanese, and Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. All three of my dogs love their MidWest iCrates, as did my previous dog! They go in them voluntarily and when told to "crate up". My only concern with the current crate I ordered is that that one of the latches isn't lined up quite right so it's a bit tight when closing the crate door. I bent it slightly and it works much better. I haven't had that issue with any of the previous MidWest crates I've used. I'm a MidWest crate fan.Eddie09

This thing is so annoying. I purchased it for my daughter this morning (in store for $5 more, ugh) and have had to put that freaking door back on about 50 times already. You look at it funny and it falls off. The slide doesn't connect well, it's always falling off. You put your dog through the front door and it's wedged against the stairs. I’ve had two of this exact model before (but blue) and enjoyed it, but I passed them to a rescue adoption family. (The kittens were trained with them so it seemed fitting). I automatically repurchased the same because they lasted 8 years already and still looked great. They’re well built but the handle is on the top door, press fit onto the wire. Therefore it flexes with heavier pets. You can’t move the handle elsewhere because then it wouldn’t be central for carrying and then it doesn’t lay flat so they can’t be stacked well for storage & transit. Lastly, the measurements are of the outer dimension. So if you look at the bubble-shape design in the photo, you can see the pet’s floor space is a little less than the overall outer dimension. That’s cozy for smaller pets and really helps it stay centered in a forward faced position (buckled-in) on car seat cushions. Unfortunately, my 12 year old fat cat is too big to lay out and turn around in the size I got. I returned it with no problems and will switch to a carrier with more cubical or straight upright wall design so my pet can make use of more of the whole dimension it takes up. These also have no quick releases, so when you put it together (top bolts onto bottom), it isn’t meant to be taken apart between trips. That’s okay for ready stored carriers, but I’d like to use one that makes an open bed when not on the move, and stacks tiny for storage otherwise. This carrier is also not rated for air travel, if that’s what you need. However if none of these little issues apply to you, I can definitely recommend this as I had two for over 8 years and they still look pretty new. They fit the cheap standard washable fuzzy beds from Menards and are very easy to clean & disinfect as well. (Don’t use bleach or alcohol on plastics. Use quaternary ammonium compounds for viruses and bacteria, or peroxide for pet parasites with cysts, like CDC says. Bleach and alcohol can etch plastics, making them fragile or brittle, and making surfaces more receptive to harboring various pathogens over time).
We where having a hard time getting our cat into our old kennel with just the front door, he does not like going into the kennel but we had to move and he had to go with us. This kennel with the top door worked perfect. This kennel is made very well and sturdy, my old kennel had clips holding it together that broke and fell off, this one has big screws that you hand tighten that look like they will last a while. MINNESOTA Winter or Summer, they love to cuddle sometimes 2-3 per igloo. I have never needed to use the flap doors. I think the ventilation is more important. As a bonus they are a great climbing structure, even my guardian dog can be found balancing on top to get a better view of potential predators in the distance. One temporary drawback is the base can be difficult to disassemble from the top, for the first few cleanings. But a large screw drivers works well to pry them apart and they "break in" quite quickly. Purchased a second XL house for our two Great Pyrenees because they no longer fit in one together. Our original is over 15 years old and is in great shape. Neither of my guineas could get in this igloo. Had to cut a bigger entrance and then sand the cut edges. It doesnt offer much room at all for them. They can just about turn around to come back out. Its probably because of this that they dont want to go in it again. Im not aware that my guineas might be larger than most.It was good value because it was bought in the sale. That is, good value if you have a guinea or pet who can fit in it. I didnt think much of it really. Plastic. See through. Top ventilation. I wouldnt buy another larger one.

I work at PetSmart and these are what we use for all the small animals in our care. They are great. the animals seem to like them. They come in all different sizes to accommodate different sized pets at different life stages. They come in tons of cool colors as well. The only thing they do not hold up against are gerbils. Gerbils chew quite a bit so I would recommend something that it would hurt a gerbil to chew up. Like a wooden house or and edible house. When they chew on them the edges become sharp and the plastic isn't the best for them anyhow. I have seen some of these igloos almost chewed in half by these little guys. But other than that, these igloos are a great product for any other pet and they are easy to clean!colleen.t

I bought this 42” crate for an English Cream Golden Retriever puppy that we brought home at 8 weeks old. First night in our home, she went right in the crate and laid down. So for young puppies or small dogs, use the divider until the puppy is crate trained and/or needs more space. Ours is now almost 6 months old and still has never had an accident in her crate. I only used the divider for about two months because my puppy got big, very quickly. This crate is so easy to set up, collapse and take with you on a trip. It’s kind of heavy as all crates are but very manageable and so worth it. You can’t beat this price either! It is well made, affordable, has two doors to choose from depending on how you have it set up. I purchased a crate cover which creates a den like special place for my dog when we leave the house now while we sleep overnight. I also purchased basic crate beds, which are machine washable, light weight and durable. I would buy again and highly recommend this crate for crate training.AC
This dog crate is great! It’s sturdy but not too heavy. That’s important for me because of taking my Sassy girl around with me for traveling and vet appointments. If I put the empty cage in our truck, she’ll jump right in there. There is plenty of room for her to move around and get comfortable. It’s nice that it has the divider. She’s already house trained but it would have been handy for that purpose. My daughter has a mid sized Rottweiler that we can use the divider for too. They get along really well but it’ll give them their own areas if needed. I like the latch system. It makes it really hard to not latch it correctly which means less escaping. Then to open it you just have to lift and slide. I love the.two door feature. It gives you twice the options if you have to put it against a wall or walls.Onebusymama
This dog crate was a complete lifesaver at the holidays! My sister brought her two large dogs to my mom's for Christmas and they are about 50 pounds each and both fit comfortably in this at different times to calm them down.
