This little halter is great for dogs who like to pull and/or are hard to manage. You have much better control mainly because they don't choke or cough while walking. I used these with my Pomeranian Dusty who had problems with his trachea and never had a problem after getting this harness. It doesn't go across the throat as regular collars and halters. They just step into it and you hook it at their back in one swift movement. And when they pull, you pull up on the leash and it pulls their front feet off the ground and they learn very quickly not to pull. I am now using for my new furry baby Rambo who is part Pomeranian, part Schipperkee and can be a handful. But this halter is working just wonderful. I wouldn't have any other kind. I got the dark purple and they are beautiful. I have two Crocker Spaniels. Both girls have a wide chest but a short back so they can be difficult to get things to fit correctly. These work great if you need a little room to play with the size because the top closes with velcro and then a clasp. If you're dog pulls these feel really solid. Overall they are well put together and the colors are eye catching. When I take both girls to the dog park in their matching harnesses I always get asked about where I got them and what colors do they have!!
I have 4 of these harnesses from a few years ago and loved them. I decided to order 2 more… Unfortunately the new ones all gape at the neck terribly! Even pulling it back more so it’s flat on the neck first doesn’t work as it won’t close the Velcro and then the arm holes rub under the armpits. I realized they changed the arm holes slightly (by overlaying it onto my old ones) and it’s thrown off the whole pattern. They are now useless. So Disappointing since all else is perfect- quality, price, patterns. Try the “Wrap & Snap” instead, it fits great and is nice for summer as there’s no extra fabric on the back.Dog Mom

Our maltipoo Watson always seemed to be in between sizes when we would buy him harnesses at the local pet stores, nothing ever seemed to fit him right and he would always manage to slip out of them making walks very stressful. I am toying with the idea of returning, but giving it a chance. My Westie is only 13.5 lbs, small for a Westie. The harness size I ordered is medium. I think it would fit better if the actual strap had some room to play with, it does not. If I get a large, it will be too big. The strap just fits, not sure if it might be too tight. I had been looking for a soft harness for our adopted senior English Cocker Spaniel, something that would give her totally freedom in her shoulders and not mat her lovely fur. Favorite things its super soft, flexible, washable, fits comfortably, stylish, does not mat her fur, not a step in harness, and allows her totally room to zoom with her shoulders. Cons it runs a tad bit small my lass is on the more petite side of English Cocker spaniels, at about 27 pounds I got her a medium and when adjusted it fits her quiet comfortably but if you Cocker was any larger say 30-35 lbs I would definitely get a large harness. I love the back leash clip haven't used the front clip as she is a lady on walks. That being said this is not super heavy duty so if you have a really strong puller I don't know if would hold up for a long time but my lass is gentle so I expect it to hold up very well. I loved the idea of the water-proof harness with the handle on the back and the fun prints. However, after less than two-months of use, the front clip completely tore off during a nighttime walk. I have a 54 lb. Springer-Standard Poodle mix. She is not strangely shaped but, she does have a bit of a deep chest. I bought the XL and it was super tight around the girth. Bought an XL-XXL, the girth was fine but then the neck was too big. Tightened up the neck all the way and it was hard to get it over her head (and still too big). When the the leash was clipped to the front and the dog pulled to one side the neck area bulged open. A bad look at that point. Nicely made and well constructed, just can't fit it to my dog. What a relief to find this harness. I was terrified to take our lab pup on walks because she was able to wiggle out of everything I tried. First the Pros: this harness is durable and I have no doubt it is strong and durable enough to hold my 70lb pittie when needed. It also does a great job of keeping her from pulling when using the chest loop. We love the Ruffwear brand and I (and my dogs) love the sweaters/clothing as they are always cold in temps below 70°. Cons: I watched the video on fitting the harness and every single walk results in raw skin/bleeding/scabs under her armpits (she has very thin fur on her underside) due to the material of the harness rubbing in this area. I also find the buckles a bit difficult to unclip as they are partially hidden inside the attachment area which means you have to squeeze the buckle through the thick harness material to release the clasp. Because of my love of their other products and the front clip feature, I may try to put some padding or softer material in the underarm area to see if that helps.Melissa S.
For the most part I really like this harness. The construction seems sturdy and the color is nice, and it’s very easy to get on and off. That said, I think it could be improved by lengthening the body (the neck to back, if you will). I have two mixed breed dogs who are very similar in shape, size, and weight. I purchased two of these harnesses, one in extra small and one in small. The small is overall a bit too large around, and the small (although ok for girth) is way too short. I am always trying to keep an eye on their underarms and backs of their elbows to make sure they aren’t getting raw spots. I’ve seen the same issue in other reviews, so I don’t think it’s just my dogs. I would also love it if you could purchase extenders in different sizes, because I think often a smaller size is better all around, but doesn’t extend in girth quite enough, while the next size up is too big. The good still outweighs the not perfect though, and I keep coming back to Ruffwear to buy different styles of harnesses!Samantha N.
So, I had been waiting until our pup was close to full grown to invest in this harness, as it's a bit pricier. I really wanted to love this harness SO much and give it the best review, as the quality is fantastic and it's really just an all around durable and beautiful harness!! BUT…… it did not work well for our English Cocker Spaniel Pup. I bought her an XS at our local pet store and we tried it on there to make sure it seemed to fit right, as she is pretty much full grown now. I don't think the XXS would fit her girth properly, so we got the XS, which fits nicely around the chest, but after grooming her puppy fur around the neck, the harness is too loose at its tightest now, and when I use the front hook (which is ideal for training her on the leash), the harness shifts terribly and has caused really awful matting of her fur under her armpits, to the point where I had to stop using the harness. And now I have to cut off all that matted fur under her armpits. We comb and brush her regularly, but she's also active and we hike and swim and have done lots of activity in this harness. It's such a shame, as the front clip was my favorite way to leash train her and I just love the overall look/style of the harness, but I don't think the XXS is going to fit, as I can barely get the XS over her head at it's tightest and then it's too loose at the neck. All that to say, if you have a floofy spaniel pup who likes to pull, you may want to make sure you can get sizing exact and be sure to check the fur constantly. I'm giving this 3 stars because it is a really well made harness, just did not work out well for our ECS. None of my other harnesses have caused matting like this, even when her puppy floof was at it's longest, so I know it's this harness and using the front loop hook and just the fit not working right for her. Looks great, doesn't fit great. I'm so bummed about it. I really wanted to love this harness. I would recommend it to a pup that does not have long fur.Lindsay

I use this harness only on walks requiring us to drive so that I can attach the seatbelt to it easily. For that it’s great. While it is durable and comfortable (it looks like) the thing won’t stay tight! I constantly have to retighten the straps, like every time we use it, which is a lot. I wish it would stay to size! I guess the material is too slick, it loosens with the slightest pull. That’s the only thing preventing me from giving a 5-star review.Jenn and Walter

We have a slender, silky coated hound who is wiggly, at just a year. She appears to be a mix of greyhound and Rhodesian ridgeback, very muscular. She can slip out of many harnesses that are not covering enough of her torso. We put on the tactical vest, and not only did it fit well and give ud more control and confidence on the leash, but it relieved my fears of Penny breaking out in a dead run to who-knows-where. ) she does have a chip). We ordered this online and were surprised by the item we picked up. Looks totally different and the sizing on pack is dramatically different from what is shown in the product image online. Our dog is in the middle of the ranges listed for “Small” by the sizing chart online, but was too big for the item we received which quoted his size measurement at the very top end. Separately, this thing is not easy to use. It’s got a pull tie closure and we could not figure out how to get the dog into it had it been his right size. There are instructions on the back with images that help but our dog would not let us take the time to put on like that. The page made it seem more like a step through harness which we wanted.Bcole394
It took me a while to figure out how to put this on my little spaniel. That is on me. Once I did, I found that it did keep her from pulling, something important to me since I've just had shoulder surgery. I am, however, very disappointed that the metal part tarnished very quickly.
