Have tried several harnesses to help with our super hard pulling Frenchie so was a bit cynical that anything could help him but really surprised to say how well this is working. Only downside is how long the adjustable tether is so if you want to take the lead off it hangs off him and he could almost trip, a bigger dog would probably not have this problem.cindy09

This product is absolutely amazing. I train my grandma's Schnauzer on a regular basis, and though she is smart, she is horrible on walks. She looks like she is swimming, choking and straining against the collar and dragging me everywhere. My grandma and I began to hate walking her, because it was just not enjoyable. Therefore, the dog never got the exercise she needed. I'm an amateur trainer, and I saw head collars being used on TV and decided to find out where I could purchase one. I saw they sold them at Petco, and I bought one. The first walk was horrible, she hated it and wouldn't go two steps without trying to pry it off, but I'm more stubborn than her, and I kept at it. I've just returned form our third walk, and she only balked once at having the collar on, and that was when I'd just put it on. She's doing marvelous, and for once, I'm in control! I would highly recommend this, much more humane and affective than the choke collars and prong collars. This is just like a horse halter, only for dogs. This product takes time to introduce to a dog, please look online as to how to make this an easier adjustment. the instructions on the company's page are lacking. My 90lb pitbull walks well on this, but she took a lot of work and will still struggle. It will take me a long time to get her to walk in grass without wanting to rub her face or paw this off. You want to invest in some training treats and constantly get their attention to turn them around and treat them. sharp 'uh uh uh' and gently pull the leash up so they cannot drag their faces or paw at themselves. Recommending a quiet atmosphere where you have time to put it on and off their faces, eventually snap it, and short multiple walks to get them interested. they will learn to associate this as what they need to wear to walk eventually and the fighting will slow. The other thing, is i specifically wanted this item for the safety feature that will clip to collar. I am amazed at how well this collar works. My 3-year-old, 70-lb. golden retriever mix is a very sweet, highly energetic girl. For the last 18 months, our walks have not been very much fun for either of us. Will be returning. Our Yorkie mix weighs 10 lbs and measured 14 inches around her chest. Based on the size chart, we ordered her a size Small. We paid extra for shipping. When it got here, it looked tiny. I adjusted the straps and tried putting it on our pup but it’s too small! It barely went over her head and wouldn’t close even at the largest adjusted strap point. Either your size chart is wrong or your product is mislabeled. I will be returning this harness. Which is too bad because I love the harness she has from your company but it is stinky now and the smell won’t wash away. I like this harness! I have a mini aussie and he is a chewer. Sometimes with these he will somehow find his way to nibble around the edges of the harness and tear through it. I use the Black Dog head halter and the Halti brand and they each have their merits. I work with a lot of dogs and use them interchanegably. The Black Dog one is less restrictive and allows the dog to pant (much better for big / anxious dogs especially in summer months) and it's more comfortable and bothers the dog less..the goal being that the dog only feels constructed when they are performing the wrong behaviour (eg leash pulling) but the downside is that if the leash is not connected to the loop, then the dog can chew it and destroy it in three seconds. The halti ones are closer to indestructible when worn , whether a lead is connected or not as they clip to the collar and are more restrictive. Saying that, the restriction limits how far their mouth can open. This again has its pros and cons – good for aggressive dogs as it's almost a partial muzzle – can't do much damage to other dogs when wearing them. If training is completed correctly with a head halter, doing stepping-up / trust building exercises and being very strict on head rubbing / pawing at mouth behaviours, then it's a very useful tool for certain dogs. But the goal of any head halter should be to not need it anymore. You should use it in conjunction with your voice etc so that the dog learns to listen to YOU and not the head halter itself. If you have a very feisty, pushy dog who is all over the place throwing a thousand behaviours out there in ten seconds then yes I recommend this behaviour as a starting tool to teach calm and connect with me. But otherwise Black dog all the way.
I have used the Halti brand for years. I first used one on a German shepherd dog which constantly pulled. It even developed a throat problem. Put it on a Halti and after 15 mins of protest she was great. She also accepted the halti and got excited when she saw it as she knew it was walk time. I now have a English cocker who is exactly the same, after months of trying to get her to walk correctly I fitted a halti and it is instant calmness. I have used cheaper alternatives on my German shepherd but they really do not fit the face of the dog correctly and when the dog pulls it twists their face and it must have been uncomfortable for the dog. But Halti product fits the face of the dog correctly and gives the dog no discomfort so its a good win for everyone including the dog.noxas123
These DO work well, full stop. HOWEVER, considering the ease of knockoff product availability, and probably cheap material using overesas labor, the price is questionable, ESPECIALLY since the metal rings wear through the nylon. It is not as bad with this exact design, but I think Coastal branded Halti headcolars have 2 more metal rings. If you ever have to go through a metal detector, the metal is an issue. BUT the added safety strap to clip to another collar or harness, which includes a metal spring clip is important for when the metal ring cuts through the nose-band. Also check the nose-band often as when the padding rubs away, your dog will get a rub. Again the price could be better and there are fiber-reinforced synthetic hardware alernatives to the metal rings. But, overall this is a good product.onelonecowboy1886

I bought this in a medium a week ago and I've used it around 2-3 times already. I have a maltipoo and she has a tendency to pull and try to go faster/farther and it would cause her to choke in her previous harness. However, not a single time since I've started using this has she choked/gagged. The sizing is a bit off for her though, since a small is too tight but a medium is too loose (but the medium isn't loose enough for it to be unsafe/falling). This harness is true to its name and is so helpful for dogs that try pulling and end up choking. It's also super softer than her old one. I also bought a small for my yorkie and I think she loves it! This is my third Gooby harness. Small size worked well when she was a puppy. She outgrew the Small we got her a medium and there was a small sign of tearing on this harness when we upgraded her to large. We got her the large pink and the fabric tore in half. The black fabric on the edge was the only thing keeping it together. Our dog weighs 18lbs but she’s built like a tank. If you have a dog that pulls I wouldn’t recommend this harness. As I previously stated I bought two of these harnesses in two different sizes. A small and a medium as I was not sure which would work. The small is a great fit for my 13 lb Shih Tzu. But this is summer and she is shaved down. I am going to use the medium size for winter to go over her sweaters and coats. We've used this collar for a few weeks and have definitely seen improvement. When our 130 lb Asian Shepherd tries to lunge at a passing car we simply put tension on the leash and she stops. We are a little concerned with how sturdy and reliable it is. The true test will be when we come across either another dog or a deer. Fingers crossed!ked7526
We have tried every type of no-pill harness out there, and had given up. When I went to my locally owned pet shop to buy a new collar for my girl, I saw this harness and decided to give it a go. What a difference. She didn’t like it at first, but it only took a couple of days for her to stop pawing at it. Fitting the harness was so easy as is putting on for a walk. It’s very lightweight, and with the additional padding on the nose loop combined with the heat-cut ends of the straps being sewn so that they do not touch her fur means no chafing and no sore spots. I can’t remember exactly what year we would have gotten our first gentle leader, but I’ll always remember the doggo we got it for and what a life changer it was!! He was 120 pounds of pure muscle and we.had.tried.everything. Group training, private training, and all the types of collars I would never use today even if I didn’t have this amazing option (choke, pinch, shock…). Our vet had even recommended having a horse halter made for him. And then a friend suggested a gentle leader. Overnight, we went from dreading the walk and only taking them when the strongest in the family was available, to myself, the kids and even my parents being able to EASILY, with one hand and no strength required, walk this dog who literally dragged me across a soccer field once when I slid on wet grass but didn’t want to let go of his leash. It was probably right around twenty years ago, and sadly Bear has long ago been to the rainbow bridge. But we’ve had a few other large, strong pullers since and thankfully we knew from the beginning how to make walks fun and bearable for everyone. I only wish it hadn’t taken SO long for there to be some collars with a little design and color other than the same solid colors for so many years. And I can’t lie, I sure wish there were more choices than there are. But thankfully the gentle leader is still available. I’ve worried at times when it’s been hard to find at stores in our area – but no matter how many other harnesses I’ve tried (and there have been quite a few – mostly looking to try to raise the fashion game a little or avoid the initial struggle to get it off), nothing has worked like the gentle leader and I always just get another one. It is very difficult to purchase a properly fitting harness for my dog. He is not broad shouldered and has a long, somewhat narrow torso relative to his overall size. I decided to follow the sizing chart and it fits him very well. The harness is a bit lower profile than others he has had previously, but it's easily the best fitting one he's had to this point.

this would probably work fine on bigger dogs but on my little Papillon it's just torture because the rings don't hold any adjustments for her tiny snout so the front strap just rubs her eyes and makes her baulk. I think for small dogs they could make the snout loop with fixed adjustments so the size would hold and it would then work more like intended but as is it doesn't work without pull on the leash which you don't always havebill

I've had other harnesses in the past and whilst they fit my English Staffordshire around the body I found they got to a point where they were difficult to get on and off over his big lump of a head . Overall a great product and I'll definitely look at getting the bigger one once he outgrows this one .Scott M
I have a 70lb Xoloitzcuintli (Mexican Hairless). I purchased both the Hurtta Cooling Coat and the Swamp Cooler Dog Vest by Ruffwear. Both are made from similar material and work the same way. The Hurtta coat has much more coverage, has extended hind end flaps and front chest flaps, resembles a horse jacket. Whereas the Ruffwear is more of a fitted vest. I would have given the Hurtta Cooling Coat 5 stars however, the stitching that secured the chest strap isn't reinforced and tore out of the material the first time used. I then outfitted the dog in the Ruffwear Swamp Vest, which worked beautifully. Since my dog is hairless it was easy to feel how well the vest worked. Placing my hand on exposed skin, then touching skin under the vest, there was a noticeable difference in temperature however his skin was dry – just cooler. I have stitched the Hurtta strap back on and feel it will be equally as good if not better than the Ruffwear due to it's increased surface area.Laura

The harness was comfortable on her and held up well, but the buckles on the shoulders just made it too bulky. So I would definitely recommend the ones without the extra buckles.

This is such a cute harness. Very easy to put on since it's a walk in to type and then just click closed. I had a bit of trouble unclasping the attachment but I think it is because it is so tiny. *Please note the picture currently showing is NOT the harness – it appears to instead be a collar made of the same material, snap closure, and branding* As I hope you can see in the pictures, this is actually a harness (not just a collar) that fits around/in between both front legs and clasps above your dog's shoulder blades. The material is soft, but thick and durable, and double-stitched so securely that the material would likely rip before the seams holding the (what appears to be stainless steel) rings. In other words, this harness can hold up to a ton of abuse and still look/function like new. I would have given 5 stars but for the placement of the cute but annoying brand label that prevents me getting a perfect fit on my dog – IMHO a better place would be on the material between the front legs on the chest – but otherwise can't highly rate it enough.Bueler
Very nice Harness! The harness is very well made and a beautiful shade of bright blue….like the shade of blue you see with Duke University or University of Kentucky colors. The size XS is for a very small pet. The measurements are stated to fit a pet 11-15 inches in chest girth and approximately 5-10 pounds. For reference, I have a Cornish Rex cat. She is 15 years old and very thin. She weighs approximately 4 pounds. The harness fits her pretty well. I took a few pictures so you can see how cute she is in it and I do not have the adjustments as small as it could go. I have it about in the middle, so it could go larger or smaller than you will see in my picture. I realize that most people use this harness on a puppy but it is difficult to find a strong nicely made harness for a cat. This one works perfectly! My cat really doesn’t like for me to put any clothes, harness, collar, etc. on her. But when we go places, I cannot let her go free because she will take off and get herself lost. This harness is really great. I will make it smaller before I taker her outside with it. I do not take her on walks outside. She is strictly an indoor cat, but I sometimes have to travel with her and this will be very helpful. I have a 6 lb puppy, 3 months old. I have been trying various harnesses. This seem to be the best as far as a step in harness. It seems my pup has a short neck so the over the head harness comes to close to his chin and he is able to get his mouth around the top. This harness is a step in harness easier to get on. However, since it is an XS it could have been a little narrower around the paw holes. It seems to come right up to the shoulder joint. Also the "D" hooks for the leash do not lay flat if you are at the tightest fit. Because of that, I remove the harness while indoors, especially when playing with other pups. It could get caught on furniture or hurt the other pup.lashepa5
