I ordered 1000 feet of wire to use to create an underground dog fence. The wire pictured is green and I was sent yellow. I didn't know that the color of the coating indicates what's inside of the coating until after I worked to bury 500 ft of this wire. Completely wasted my time and money. As a single mom i don't have a whole lot of either!sha-931551

When I tried to use the wire that came with the product, it was about as thin as thread, broke easily, and tangled as soon as the package was opened. Using this wire made the job quick and easy. It is thin enough to to run along fencelines and strong enough for the job. A good product.donnay814

wonderful boundary fence, so easy to install and good directions. The collar is kind of flimsy for our medium size dog. This took my husband and I about a couple of evenings to install. You bury the lead wire around the perimeter you don't want your fur baby to cross and the collar is light and works nicely! I have a jack Russel/Chihuahua that likes to snoop and sneak out of the yard and this little device has solved that problem. I only needed to use the tone mode and that worked fabulously. I bought an additional collar for my blue heeler. She is a bit more strong willed and faster, so static mode worked for her. I'm thankful for this! I installed this fence for my dog on a town lot that was around .25 acres. I must say you should definitely read the instructions fully before just starting this installation as you have to do some prep work, and this is not simply a plug and play fence if you want to trench it in. I think if there was an existing fence or something you could probably get away with just hanging the boundary wires directly to it but chances are that is not the case always. In my case I used a spade to kinda make the trench on my laid-out boundary line. I did this after a heavy rain as that made the task by hand much easier than the ground being rock hard like it is when it is dry. I stepped on the ground with my body weight after the installing the wire to kind of tamp the ground back in place and let mother nature do the rest over time to get the ground to settle. I did have to cross my driveway and really just shoved the wire in the expansion joint and shoved it down as far as I could. I just have to be conscience that I do not pierce the wiring when doing my edging. For my lot it took quite a bit of the 500 feet of included wire even though I consider it to be a pretty small lot. My dog has used wireless electric collars before so the training was not so difficult, but I did put out the included flags on the boundary line during training to make sure the boundary training went smoothly. The collar fit my dog nicely. As far as hooking up the boundary lines to the transmitter it was easy. I installed the plug-in wall unit in my garage and actually drilled a hole through a brick wall to get the boundary wire outside. I used caulk to seal off the hole with the wire to protect the weather and critters getting into my garage through the access hole. As I mentioned that since I have used wireless systems with my dog before the training was minimal and the system is working nicely.Country Man

We do not have a fence in our backyard and have to constantly leave our Poodle on a 30 foot leash when she runs around backyard. But I hate that she is even on a leash and can't run and live free. This fence is a perfect solution since we can not afford to install a proper yard fence. We set up the boundaries and it was easy to follow directions. I purchased the cat collar since she is a 8lb poodle this collar is much more soft and less bulky for her to wear daily. I have a pup that is a large breed, he looks like I been feeding him steak and potatoes cause he's so dang big. He is ALL puppy though. Chews on everything loves running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Been trying to train him to chill with me, yeah, right. He wants to play. And because he wants to play, he wants to run every stinkin where. Decided, for my sanity as well as his safety, I'd get this thing. Put the flags out, set it on a low static charge, and it didn't take long before he figured it out. You DO have to WORK a dog with this. It's not just a plug it up and watch their hair shoot up when they get popped. Walked him around the perimeter for 7 days, he sees and sniffs the flags. After that, I let him run around, and he got popped maybe 3 times, and figured it out. Now he's pretty dang happy, and I can let him rip around with zoomies while I work in the yard. I have a 2 yr old LARGE French Mastiff that weighs 180ish! I bought with the (red in color) “stubborn” collar. We previously installed a wired underground fence. (Which I have to mention took 2 FULL DAYS TO INSTALL AND READY TO USE!!) My Bo would realize he was close to the boundary, take a step or two back then take a run right through it, with no second thought!!! We watched him do this several times. I guess he was thinking, well this is going to hurt but only for a few short seconds. Idk?? But it did NOT phase him one bit! I had talked to 4 or 5 people that had this system, so reluctantly I decided to give it a try. I thought to myself well if it doesn’t work I will simply return it, no harm no foul. My boyfriend had it installed and collar on Bo in 30 mins flat. We walked ole hard-headed Bo around maybe 4 times to show him the boundaries. Once he heard the beeping, he kept walking then he felt the shock 1 time and that must have been enough because he never ventured close again! It has been about 2 months of use and I would give it 100 STARS IF IT WAS AN OPTION! We live in a subdivision where houses are fairly close. I was ultimately worried that the zone would lead into the neighboring yard. (which was the #1 thing we are trying to prevent) And although it may, Bo doesn’t even attempt to go that far. I believe he now understands to stay in his own yard! Living in a subdivision, many people take walks and Bo just sits and watches them now!! Just an FYI, we set ours on a level 3 to begin with and my boyfriend was ready to give up, so I told him to have some patience and we just kept adjusting the level on the collar and we ended up discovering for Bo he needed to be set on a #6. Again, I repeat he weighs 180 lbs, and the Mastiff bread is KNOWN for their stubbornness. I would suggest starting at the lowest level for a smaller dog PLEASE! I bought this as a last resort and man how i wish id bought it first. We have 3 dogs. 1 a very pigheaded pitbull ( 18 mo) that likes to test us at every turn. 1 German Shepard (4 mo) who is way to smart for anyone's good as she can open all our doors and gates. And 1 Cane Corso Doberman mix pup so far he's a good pup but he's only 7 weeks old. We have tried everything to keep the other two in ( 8 ft chain link. Hot wire. Adding an inward incline at the top. Burying the fence.) but they always found a way out. We installed this fence 3 days ago in about 2 hours and have already introduced the dogs to it. Our gsd is already steering well clear of it. Our pit on the other hand is being more stubborn about it his color is is set at max and he is still trying to run through tho he bring himself back inside the barrier very fast once he crosses it. So if you have smart stubborn hard to contain dogs. Just get it. You wont regret it.Womack02

I installed this system about 2 weeks ago and, have done some light training. I first tried the wireless system but, it had issues with coverage and dead spots in my yard. I have a miniature Daschund and I have found that she quickly learned the boundaries almost to the point of being gunshy of going out into the yard. Probably my fault. The other system zapped her a few times and, now I'm going to have to back off and work into it more slowly. We had a problem of her running off and paying absolutely no attention what so ever to our calls, scolding or going after her. Very frustrating, and dangerous to her going across the street not to mention also my wife and I get very tired having to go after her!!!!! At this point with only the audio she will NOT cross the boundary wire! Good for us and safer for her! Right now she has a problem with going out in the yard but, in time and as we work with her I'm sure she will regain her confidence. The system was fairly easy to install, took me about a day to do it right. Toughest part I had was going across the 24ft driveway, several years ago I put caulking in the expansion joints and it was pretty tough to clean it out. Had to go about 6" at a time. I did mine above ground and, I did opt for 14ga wire, the 20ga that came with the system was way to flimsy. My choice because I like to do things thoroughly with no problems when I'm done. Used almost 500ft of wire and about 160 yard Staples. Barely visible and I can mow over it with no problem. I think this system will do the job for what it is intended to do and way less expensive than having a fence put up. I didn't want to fence in my whole property at all. Just going to have to work more with the dog and, after awhile I'm sure she will feel at ease with going out in the yard. My wife and I will not have to worry about her running off and being injured when we are outside working or relaxing in our patio or deck. Pet Safe is what it means and what it will provide. My review is on the Basic In-Ground Fence System by Pet Safe. This in ground fence system worked great for our little dog. The directions are well written and easy to follow. They offer several options for installation, in ground, above ground, with a fence, and around your garden and the trees. They are thorough and easy to follow. After installing the unit, I tested it following the instructions, and everything was working. There are 5 levels of electric stimulus. The collars are fully adjustable for the shock level, and the controller adjusts the distance the collar starts to activate. The collar has a separate adjustment for the level of shock; 1-5. The wall controller adjusts the width of the zone, 2' wide to 10' wide. If your collar is one level 1 (low) and the width is at 10 (maximum), your dog will not get a shock, only a low level beep. You have to adjust the collar to 5 (high) to train the dog the first time. One or two zaps and the dog will learn to associate the warning beep with the zap. Then you adjust the shock level down to 2 or 3 for most dogs. I have read that dogs need a visual barrier, they won't remember the wire is buried, once they associate the visual barrier with the electric fence, they know it is there. I would recommend this in ground fence for your dogs to be able to run around the yard.Rose28

Although I had difficulty setting up the collar initially due to not reading instructions correctly I found the collar and fence really good. I would not use the collar for any length of time as my young dog senses the collar on and due to getting a shock is a little scared to go out without me. We purchased this product 4 years ago and installed it. It works great and I love the fact that there is a beeping stage before it actually will do any shocking. We used it for both small and large dogs. Just a tidbit of info for anyone who buys one, bury it about 4-6 inches deep. This in-ground fence was the best investment I ever made for my 3 dogs. I have a Lab and 2 Shepadors ,(Lab x German Shepherd), and they now have four acres to roam around my home. They were very easy to train and learned the boundaries in just a couple days. They really respect the fence and will not cross it for anything. The wire was simple to install and it is durable. Had a little problem after I buried the wire, but found the problem and turned it on and it's been working ever since. My german short hair has only went through it twice early on. This review is for the Dig Defence four pack animal barrier fence. This animal barrier is perfectly awesome for me to use around the bottom of the chicken coop wire to keep my dogs or critters from trying to dig under the wire into the chicken coop. It is extra nice quality, heavy duty metal fence sections. Each section is thirty two inches long and eight inches high and has a combined coverage area of over ten feet in length. I know this is mainly made to deter and keep dogs from digging under their yard fence but I intertwined the fencing legs in through the holes in my chicken coop wire and then drove it a little more than halfway into the ground to deter my dogs from digging at the chicken coop fence or any varmints. It is very easy to use and drives into even hard ground with ease with a small sledge hammer or any hammer will work. The legs, with two inch spaces between, are so thick and heavy duty, that they do not bend at all when driving them into the ground. I almost guarantee nothing will dig past these ground barriers as stout as they are.Ang03

These are just what I needed! My inside dog doesn't dig out when she is in the yard, she actually dug IN to come live with us as she was a stray and decided we looked like a good home, or maybe it was the tasty treats we fed her that enticed her to stay! Nonetheless, this keeps OUT the critters that love to come in my back yard (i.e. possums, raccoons, skunks, etc…) to eat the feral cat food I put out for my TNSR (trap, neuter, spay, release) colony. Our wooden fence has places that are worn away at the bottom, and these make a great barrier to fill in those gaps. The cats (and possums, I found out) can crawl over the fence unlike the skunks (they haven't learned yet, thank goodness! 🙂 I feel certain these would work beautifully for pets (dogs) that like to dig OUT of the fence, or try to squeeze through the bars of an iron fence. Just make sure you get the right size and drive them into the ground about 5", and you'll be good to go. Or stay! :O)siouxbee19

We have neighbors who don't seem to understand what a leash law means. It's not only annoying, but also gets our dogs (on their leads) sick from time to time. No, we don't keep our dogs out all the time, but do hook them up to a lead to use the bathroom then bring them back in. When the neighbor's dog does gross stuff in our yard, not only do we have to pick it up and dispose of it if we see it, we have to deal with our dogs smelling/rolling in/sometimes eating what the neighbor's dog leaves behind. (It's gross, but many dogs eat what other dogs drop.) These barriers are to the rescue. The back of our property has a fence that is not ours and therefor we can't maintain it. We can, however, add these strong no dig animal barriers on our side to keep the roaming neighbor dogs out of our yard. I have placed them in place without pounding them in yet so you can see the size. Because of the ivys growing near where I want the barriers I will need to put on long sleeves before installing them. Pros: Seem very strong. Seem very durable. The gaps are small enough to let smaller wildlife through while keeping out unwanted dogs. Heavy so dogs and/or other larger animals can't move them. Cons: None Suggestions: *Like many metals, there is a black residue on the metal. You will want gloves when installing (which should be worn anyway since dealing with metal–protects from unintentional scrapes) Overall I recommend these barriers! They seem like they will last quite a while, so I'm hoping they do.Homemaker

At first reading the instructions you might get overwhelmed but it's not as bad as it seems at first with the install. The only thing I wish is there was a way to make it have a wireless signal to the main box so you don't need to run wires into the house. Part of my install is on the fence and some in ground both were fairly straight forward. We have been working with our dog per the instructions. While I feel we could probably teach our dog where to stay out of with just the training guide in the book but the added collar helps reinforce the boundaries. So far she is responding well although she is a border collie and they tend to learn fast but I don't think it would be hard to work with any dog with the right patience and practice. Don't buy this if you expect it to work out of the box you still need to train your dog the system is more of a reminder than it is a set it and forget it.Jono21

The PetSafe In Ground fence worked great in our yard! We aren't allowed to have traditional fences in our subdivision but wanted to be able to keep our goldendoodle safe and in our yard. This system was a bit of a project to install in comparison to hiring a company or something, but the directions well clear and concise and it wasn't difficult to install. We borrowed My dog was very receptive to the training with the boundary flags and picked up on the boundaries very quickly and easily!! Petsafe had some helpful videos on their website which helped guide us how to begin training as well. The system seems really reliable, and I love that I can know that she is safe and gets to run and exercise without having to worry constantly. The collar is lightweight and comfortable for my dog and easy to adjust. I highly recommend this pet containment system to keep your loved fur babies safe!!wogsll34

The in-ground fence was extremely easy to install and had step-by-step directions on how to do so. I had thought it would be difficult to install, as I am not an overly technical person, but was surprised to learn that even the least technical-savvy person could install. I love that my dog no longer needs to wear a leash outside and he's able to roam freely. I feel this provides him with a sense of independence, although he still prefers to be by my side. On my end though, it provides me a sense of relief that even if I look away momentarily, he won't be able to roam outside of the flags. As far as your dog goes, I would recommend walking him or her around the area to ensure they are aware of where is permitted and not permitted to go. Once your dog learns this, they will be on their way to what they feel is freedom.Amber24

We recently got a new Bernese Mountain dog puppy and we have a 7 year old Dachshund mix who we rescued 4 years ago. I received the kit very quickly through the mail. The instructions were pretty simple and I was able to run the cable around the perimeter of my property very quickly for testing it out. Our puppy got corrected about three times before he truly figured it out and learned to stay away from the perimeter. Our Dachshund, who is known for bolting as soon as the door opens, didn't take to it as quickly. "Can't teach an old dog new tricks?" That was not the case. After she ran through the fence a few times, she was scared to go outside at all. Being a rescue from an abused family, this is understandable. After working with her for a week, showing her the boundaries with the shock correction turned off just utilizing the audible correction and the vibration alert, She started to get comfortable outside again and also stayed away from the perimeter. The beep and vibration was enough to get her attention and she returns into the property. At this time, I spent half a day with a spade shovel and buried the fence a couple inches into the ground. I found that the signal was a bit less, so I took advantage of the signal strength dial and turned it up and tested it again. It took a bit of trial and error, but I got it dialed in pretty good. This has been an absolutely fantastic device for the dogs. They can go outside and run around like a dog should be able to do! Now I just have to figure out how to stop my Dachshund from digging up critters around my AC unit, LOL. I think I am going to build a decorative fence around my unit for this. I purchased this system about three years ago. It worked great for my GSD for about two months.. then he learned he could run through it.. and did so on a regular basis. If you have smaller dogs.. would highly recommend this fence system.. for bigger dogs… Not so much. Oh and i recently acquired a Caucaision Ovcharcta… she is now 8 months old and goes through it like it wasn't there. For me it was a waste of money. I have two pit bulls and a bull terrier. I bought this in hopes it will keep the dogs in the yard without a physical fence. At first the dogs were very scared to go outside but after a little training and some play time in the yard they have learned their boundary. Be sure to not adjust the width control while the dogs are wearing the collar they may get an unexpected shock. Be sure to read the instructions and then read them again before trying it on the pets. Show them the boundary on level one which is just a vibration and a beep.Then set it to level two which is the lowest shock. Bought this to finish a bunny cage. Wire is strong, small openings safe for chicks and rabbits. We will be buying more it’s much better then some of the other higher priced wire labeled chicken wire of supposedly stronger gage.RF Ranch

I have a black aluminum 5 foot fence that encloses my backyard which includes part of a tree protected area. I get a lot of leaves. I was looking for a way to block leaving from being blown into my yard so I could completely remove them each year. I don't mind raking leaves in the fall. What I don't like is raking leaves all year because I get my neighbors leaves after every wind storm. So, the 5 foot black plastic coated wire allowed me to line my fence to block out leaves and be almost invisible to the eye. I love it. Once all the leaves fall from the trees and I rake my yard, I'm through until the next year. Love it.DeLois W.
