The Herm Springer prong collar has made our new German Shepherd puppy behave much much better. It even had an effect on her the first time I put it on her. After a few gentle tugs, she got the message and now walks with me in stride. When she has just her regular collar on, she wants to pull, strain and do just what she wants to do, but this prong collar has put us back in control. It's like having power steering on this pup. I am glad I ran across a YouTube video about it. Would definitely recommend to anyone. She is now 4 months old but I purchased the large and had to take a few links out, but I will eventually need to start adding them back.Joe
I’m very happy with this purchase. It is exactly what I expected. I’m lucky that my boy is well behaved or I’d never be able to put this collar on. It is quite difficult to latch for me. I can’t imagine trying to put this collar on a wriggling dog. I hope that I will only need to use this collar a couple of times. I purchased it on the advice of my trainer. My dog outweighs me by a bit and after a Boxer attacked his sister and he yanked me off my feet trying to defend her it was decided he needed a Come to Jesus Meeting aid. I definitely DO NOT recommend this collar unless you know what you are doing and the collar is fitted correctly. These collars unfortunately get a bad rap. The are not barbaric collars that inflict pain. Not if used for their intended purpose and when used correctly. They are "corrective" collars. I have used them for years. I purchased three on this site because Sprenger is the only brand I like. There is no reason to use an x-large size on a large dog. It is overkill. I use medium on 25 lb dogs up to 125 pound dogs. The large is almost the same as the medium but anything larger is too big, bulky, heavy and unnecessary. These are very well made and the three collars I purchased came well packaged and arrived very quickly. Stick with Sprenger. They are the bestTrainer

This was exactly as described. I really like the quick release. Makes it much easier to put on and take off my dog. We were unable to walk our dog before this collar. He would pull to the point of choking himself out. We tried several collars and harnesses before going with the Prong collar. It took a couple of days to get him used to wearing the collar. I didn't think this would work on the 1st day. He pulled hard and it pinched him. He got scared and refused to move. We were patient worked with him slowly, 5 minutes at a time. He now walks like a champ. Loose leash stays close to me and no longer pulls at all. He is much happier with the walks as are we.LEONARD
I purchased this collar after ordering the same collar on Amazon only to be disappointed with a generic prong collar made in China (I've seen more than one supposed "Herm Sprenger" product have this problem on Amazon – that is, advertising the real thing and then shipping out something generic.) I started using this type of collar on my first German Shepherd and needed a second collar after getting him a brother. Walks with the two of them on prong collars are enjoyable because even though they both have "loose leash" training – they still need a little correction to be truly loose leash walkers. I used to be 100% against prong collars. I thought they looked like torture devices. I started working at a pet store and would NEVER recommend them until one day another employee who had been there over ten years EDUCATED me on their proper use. Just like anything, using them properly will render awesome results. I have a Great Dane and she was awful to take on walks so I bought a prong collar(over two years ago) one day to try it out and the results…INSTANTANEOUS. She was a completely different animal. I also have a border collie now and we bought one of these herm sprengers as a recommendation for his training. Works great when you use it right. You ONLY use it for short periods of time like walks. Once you're done leash walking it needs to come off. You NEVER leave it on them as their regular every day collar. I've been volunteering walking dogs with Labrador and Friends Rescue and it's required that we have two types of leashes so one form for me is the pinch collar. While some people think these are awful, they actually, if put on correctly, work wonders. These collars are made to go higher up on the neck and not supposed to be digging into the dog's neck (have to be able to stick 2 fingers through the prongs). But these collars definitely help especially if you have a dog that tends to be a little wild and you're trying to train them. Obviously most dogs aren't going to want these prongs digging in their necks soooo they tend to be more relaxed and listen while on their walks.shannon.m

I really liked the quality of this training system. Over all the Pro system works as described. However, the collar attached to this system is longer than needed and shortening the strap is questionable given the contact wire that runs through the strap. Also, the strap would be more beneficial to be a snap locking system rather than a buckle. As my dog recognizes the purpose of the collar, she is not a fan, and likes to put up some resistance when having it placed on her. I did a lot of research on ecollars before deciding to purchase this one. I got this for a dog that is a rescue who has had some major behavior issues. I use the collar for training and he is excelling at everything. The only thing I would caution would not be specific to this ecollar but to all ecollars. Watch the fit. The band stretches after it's worn a few times and needs to be tightened on the dog's neck. Be sure to start out at the lowest level and only go up in slight increments until your dog reacts to the zap. This will prevent you from using more power than needed. I’m very satisfied with the R.A.P.T. 1400, the remote is very user friendly and I’m so happy to have a back of the hand setup. Battery life on the collar itself seems to be much improved over my previous models of collar. My one and only complaint is the collar itself is already starting to separate layers, fraying at the feed point and I’ve had to trim and tape twice in less than a month of use (my other collars took years for this to happen). Training is quite enjoyable with the ergonomics of the remote and the programmable quick button is definitely a nice touch. This item is based on the actual rope lead produced by Cesar Millan, but it is NOT his product. The concept is good, but the lead is rather stretchy and has an ineffective "feel", rather than an actual rope that has a crisp communication with your dog. It is also a bit thicker than the stated diameter of 1/4 inch. The stopper that is designed to keep the lead in place, at the top of the neck, is too loose, as well. It slides too easily and one is constantly readjusting the position. But, for just over $8 it isn't a big loss. I would recommend going to Cesar's site and just ordering the real thing.horsejen
