Best Meds For Dog Anxiety (Jan 2023 Update)

I decided to try Quiet Moments because I was having difficulty finding the brand recommended by my veterinarian. My elderly Dachshund was having anxiety issues, so had looked for something "non-chemical" to treat her with if at all possible. I'm cautiously pleased after using it for three weeks now. It appears to be working almost as well as the supplement I had previously been using–and it's available here in town at our (new!) Tractor Supply. Big plus–our Tractor Supply offers online purchase and curbside pickup, something that's great for elderly/disabled! I think this supplement is working well enough to continue, I may increase the dosage slightly, but we do appear to be having some success with it.DoxyLady

First time ordering and the item came quickly which was great. Unfortunately, the box was completely busted open and the treats had fallen out into the shipping bag. My dog was in a high-stress situation so I didn't have time to take a picture or send the treats back, but I really wish they handled my package with more care. As for the product itself, I gave him one and he calmed down within 15-20 minutes. He seems to like the taste as well. This was our first time trying them so I'll have to see how it goes.Crtny

The only reason why I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because it took a little longer than expected for these to kick in. My dog has terrible anxiety and when it storms, she shakes and pants heavily and just paces everywhere. I had to look for something because her behavior was becoming so bad, I couldn't control her and she's normally well behaved. I saw the reviews and ordered these. I gave her two due to her size and after about half an hour, the shaking and heavy breathing stopped. She became so calm. I should have gotten these a long time ago! This is my first puppy/dog ever. I have a 7wk old Aussie/Lab mix who gets terrible separation anxiety when left alone (in a room or in a crate). He's pretty chill otherwise but, during crate training, he will whine and scratch at the crate to be let out, which becomes a challenge with my 430am work schedule. I was skeptical of trying these, so I first tried just YouTube lullabies and sleeping beside him but both those only worked temporarily. I have a dog with brain/neurological damage. This caused her to have bizarre behavior, difficulty walking and extreme anxiety. I have rescued dogs my entire life with great results, until I met Max. I've had him for 2.5 years, and although there is a difference, I have still considered rehoming him. I was very surprised with how well it worked. My cats nose cleared up quite nicely. I think the taste wasn't so good for her though. Maybe you can figure a way to give it a flavor cat's like. Also, you should make it so we can administer it easier. I had to use a syringe to be able to manage giving it to her. I turned to this product for my cat after everything else failed. She has a chronic sinus infection that did not respond to multiple rounds of two different antibiotics. She stopped eating and was losing weight. I put drops of this on her food twice a day and she seems to tolerate it. I cannot dose her directly into her mouth, being a cat once was enough and she wriggles free when I try to dose her. She is not cured but is much better and her quality of life is much improved. Newly adopted very stressed pup. I purchased three Thunder items, one of which was a bottle of the Calming Chews. Tried the Chews several times over the course of a week and a half in different situations. So my 6mos. old pup is super hyper at night running around my apartment. He just have this excitement and energy at night when i come home from work. Also before going to sleep we still have to wrestle on my bed for a good hour or so. He just have that so much energy probably because im out all day. I can't say enough about the Purina Pro Plan veterinary Calming Care. It's very easy to use, you sprinkle one packet on top of your dogs food and that's all there is to it. To see the effect, in my experience and using it on my own dog it took about a week. Please note, every dog is different so that timeframe may not apply to your pet. She was having some issues of being very nervous in new surroundings,. From what my veterinarian had told me when a dog gets nervous or anxious it affects the gut. The Calming Care is a probiotic, which helps settle the uneasiness in the belly. She compared it to when people have to stand up in front of a room of strangers and give a speech, they get that queasy feeling in the belly, the probiotics settle all that down. After several months of daily use, I never want my girl to go without this again. She's always been a very high-strung, anxious, and easily over-stimulated dog, and I've tried literally dozens of products over the years to try and help her. This is the only one that's had a consistent, noticeable effect on her behavior. Before starting on calming care, she was such a handful that I would often joke about her ruining my life. She barked at every tiny noise, followed me around the house like an overzealous bodyguard, and though she's always loved other dogs, I had to be incredibly careful about allowing her to play with them, because she would get carried away and overstimulated until regular play escalated into a fight. Human visitors coming to our house caused her to become so hysterically excited that I'd have to sit and pet her continually for as long as they stayed, because if I stopped, she'd spend the duration of their visit frantically trying to climb onto their lap, licking and nibbling at their faces and occasionally punching them in the gut with her giant puppy feet. We used one jar of this twice daily for our dog and saw no change. The product is very crumbly and dusty, making a mess. Our dog wold eat around it and leave the crumbled pieces in his bowl. We had to really disintegrate the tablets into his food or hide them in something to get him to eat them.martob

I love the product – your packaging – AGAIN – is HORRIBLE. I ordered two of these and one arrived opened and about ten left in the the bottom of the container. The other container was in tack! So one container completely distroyed. Other items in the box were broken open: The box of Cat Food – 30 box count. Totally broken apart and all the cans were all about the box. And many dented! The shipping box itself had obviously been broken and arrived in super bad condition and a lot extra tape. The box was a mess and was part of the delay in its delivery! I have complained about your packaging practices many times before…. Seldom with any evidence that some one cares. Boxes still come beat up, destroyed, contents thrown about and dented. AND way too heavy! I will be 80 next week! Those are heavy boxes for me (or anyone!!)…..I have to take the box apart a the gate and bring items into the house. I am so thrilled with the results of this product. I contacted the manufacturer, who confirmed that the formula is the same as their cat joint relief product; the dosage and texture is just different between the two. So I buy this for my 2 cats and 1 dog to avoid having to buy two different products that are essentially the same thing. I crumble 1 treat into my senior cats' wet food each day and give 2 daily to my young dog for preventative purposes. Before starting on these, both of my cats had showed some natural decline in mobility, and one of them had torn his ACL tear when attempting a high jump. After just a few days of these treats, both cats showed greater mobility, and the one with the ACL injury was jumping again after a little over a week. After several weeks, he's moving like the young, athletic cat he used to be. Most importantly, nobody seems to be in any discomfort anymore. … I will just say, though, that this new advanced formula with collagen is much stiffer/denser than the regular formula without collagen, so crumbling the treats can be a little bit of a pain. I have a brave little mini doxie that would take on the meanest badger, but hates storms or loud bangs of any kind. These have an extremely small amount of melatonin in them, which at first worked okay, but after a month it's not cutting it. A 10lb dog can have 1 MG of melatonin and be fine, which is almost 10x the amount found in one of these treats. Don't buy these if you're looking for nighttime calming for elderly dementia dogs who are restless at night, they won't work. Get some melatonin and ask your vet the correct amount to dose.gotosleepthor

My little senior dog has night time anxiety and no matter what we did were unable to get her to calm down let alone get her to sleep. It was effecting our lives greatly to the point where we were getting 1-2 hours of sleep a night. Me and my husband went out of town for the weekend and decided to bring out year and a half old corgi/aussie mix with us. She is FULL of energy and since the pandemic hasn't loved one of us leaving a space and if both of us leave has a full on fit once the door is closed. We bought these hoping they'd help keep her calm as we were staying in a hotel and didn't want any complaints. First time we gave them to her was after a beach day. She was playing in the water for about two hours, came back and I put the treats in her dinner, gave her a bath, and then put her in her cage with her Kong. No crying when we left, good first sign. My cat is very high strung and exhibits behaviour indicative of Pica. He picks carpet, couches and bed covers with his teeth. After the first few days of giving him this remedy his picking increased and was out of control. I attributed this to a healing crisis??? It has now been about four weeks since he’s been taking it. I've been volunteering at a shelter for 2 1/2 years and the unthinkable happened…I was adopted by a 6 month old kitten. We have two cats who are sisters from the same litter, Scout and Sadie. We got them at 8 weeks old. They have always been together. They are typical sisters who play together and sometimes are annoyed with each other, but they’ve always gotten along quite fine and without aggression. This summer we brought them to a cabin. So I have a little 6 lb Pomeranian that has mild separation anxiety. I gave her half of a pill everyday before I left for work. They weren't exactly miracle pills, but they did help calm her down a little bit, hence the two star rating. However, after about two weeks, I noticed that her fur began to fall out. I checked the pills and their reviews but found nothing about fur loss being a side effect, so I just assumed it was something else. After another week she had no undercoat and I was about to take her to the vet but decided to try not giving her the pills first. She stopped losing fur and now, 3 months later, her coat has come back. Certainly did the trick for my little dog. Usually whines , throws up etc. even a short distance ride in car. Took him on a 2 hour drive and yea no throwing up, no winning and slept on the way home 4 hours later. . I also used pheromone spray when we left and that also contributed to his being calm. I have a six-year-old golden retriever who has shown signs of anxiety and even depression throughout her lifetime. I assumed these things might get better as she got older. We have been giving this to our rescued 9 year-old, 13 lb. cat since March of this year. He has a condition called Hyperesthesia, which causes terrible rippling of his back and according to the vet, feels like needles sticking into the skin. He was getting a monthly shots of Naloxone to keep it under control. Those visits were quite expensive and caused more stress to the cat. Due to an emergency that arose, we went to another wonderful vet. She noticed the rippling and suggested we might try Soloquin. We gave him 1 each day for 2 days and the rippling ceased completely. It has been amazing! They are soft and we break them up and mix them into his canned food. We were told to keep giving him 1/2 daily and he has been nearly symptom-free. We only notice slight rippling when he feels extremely stressed (fireworks on July 4th or small children visitors). I have used Solliquin ever since it first came out for my cat who is absolutely buckwild. He just takes it as needed, particularly when the landscapers come by because that is a high stress event for him. Now that we have a dog, I give it to her to help with anxiety at day care, the vet’s office, during thunderstorms, or any other time she may get a little stressed out. If your pet is just anxious all the time, it will probably work best if you give it daily as directed to keep it at a consistent level in their system and it can take a few weeks to build up to a therapeutic level in their system.Nancy

We discovered that Roxie had a stomach problem that made her feel awful and because she felt so awful she was very jittery and jumpy. Once our vet discovered what was wrong and started her on medication for her digestive problems we see started her on Composure. I have two pups who are scared of storms and fireworks. I can give this supplement after it's already storming and the clinginess and shivers have set it, and within 20 minutes (not exaggerating) they are sleeping/resting and no longer shaking. Our vet suggested this because my dog is very anxious, and will lick until he's made a hot spot. My kitten was stress licking, and breaking her hair, but not causing skin redness like the dog. We got this and I thought "eh, it wont work, but lets give it a try" and OH MY WORD, I have two happy, significantly less anxious, if even anxious at all, companion animals. I love it. My dog used to ruin toys, and eat anything he could when he would get stressed out, he just doesn't do it any more. Our dog is TERRIFIED of thunder, fireworks etc. She pants, shivers and drools when it happens.. We give her LICKS an hour before a storm starts and she is relatively calm, a few times she went to sleep during the storm. Fireworks is similar if you know when a fireworks display will be, give it an hour before. It seems to last about 5 hours for her, she gets 2 packs of the liquid (40 lbs). One of my four cats hates other cats. It’s a regular hiss and run at our house! Tried Feliway and the store brands of that with no result. Tried chewy calming aids and she wouldn’t eat them. Bought Zen licks last year and she loves the taste! Best way is to put it on her wet food, but she will also lick off my hand.
