I just got a 8 week old Mini Daschaund, the place gave me some starter food they had been giving her since she could eat. She would lick the water out of the bowl and chew on the food. Marie Moody has decided after all the years being in business to slack off on quality and misrepresent her pet food. The freeze dried Pattie’s have been hard as a rock and what she’s doing is non sense and she wants to be well paid for the bad quality she’s putting out. I purchased this bag because my fur baby loves this brand of food and as far as the food in the bag she enjoys this one. She loves eggs, carrots and green beans. Rice is not a big thing for her but a little here and there she will tolerate and Fresh Pet doesn't use big portions of rice which makes their food perfect for her. I like that it's a complete balanced meal and easy to serve in portions. Its easy for her to digest and she's been eating this brand for 15 months with no problems and doing well on her vet exams. I bought this for mine and my daughter’s cocker spaniels. Her 1 year old loves them! We break them up and mix them with her kibble. We pour the kibble on top & she’ll nose through it to get at the Stella & Chewy freeze dried pieces first! My dog is 12 years old, has kidney disease and has ALWAYS been an extremely picky eater. Marie Moodys Stella and Chewys brand has gotten so bad it should be on the grocery shelf next to Rachel Rays dog food. The Stella’s essentials dog food kibble are so small that my pets have a hard time trying to chew it. It’s more like cat food kibble. I stopped buying the chicken Shredrs because it smells like tuna and others have noticed it except for Emily who answers through contact us on the company’s web site. she claims it’s chicken when it’s not and ignores checking into it from where they make and bag the brand. Marie Moody has decided after all the years being in business to slack off on quality and misrepresent her pet food. The freeze dried Pattie’s have been hard as a rock and what she’s doing is non sense and she wants to be well paid for the bad quality she’s putting out. My 12 pound shorkie LOVES this food!I have had her on a freeze dried or air dried raw for a few years now and most importantly I will only buy from American sourced and made foods for her.I also give her the raw nibs for variety. She is 8yrs old and except for recently developed disc problems a very healthy fur baby. I have always tried to do the holistic and natural before drugs and she is being treated with acupuncture and Laser along with an all natural herbal joint supplement. Border Collie and Great Dane both love this food. Quite a few things I like about it, but most importantly it's a 5 star rated food on dog food advisor and it's a brand that offers SOOOO many things to keep variety going, especially for dogs that have sensitivities if just brands are changed. My Border Collie can eat anything different from any brand to any flavor to any form of food, and have perfect solid poops each time. Once we got our Dane, his tummy couldn't handle so much change so I felt bad not being able to change his stuff all the time like the collie. This has done wonders for him, we can change or add anything without having to get all of the different products they offer from different brands. Another thing is that our base food we feed (Acana) had this huge fiasco with Chewy.com along with even selling to specialty stores which was really annoying. I really didn't want to be driving to a posh groomer to be able to get a bag of food, it just became ridiculous. Prices skyrocketed because of supply. I now use the power fusion food for breakfast every day and in the evening they get the regular power food with whatever topper.
This is superior, high quality food. I like to rotate it in daily, alternating with raw frozen. That way I don't have to defrost every meal but can still keep my Bulldogge's dish full of nutrition. The air-dried food is convenient to store and serve since it can be handled in the same way as bags of nuggets. MaxMeat is easy to send with your dog when you leave him with a friend or relative for a day, or even for an extended stay. You can pre-portion the food into small containers to have each meal ready to go so the caretaker doesn't have to try to figure out how much to feed, and doesn't have to deal with the "ick" factor some people feel when handling raw meat. I use a kitchen scale to weigh out portions of food whether I'm feeding the air-dried food or raw frozen. For my 60 lb Bulldogge I feed 3 oz of air-dried at each meal as opposed to 6.5 oz of raw frozen. I prefer to feed three times a day. If you feed only twice, the feeding amounts would have to be adjusted. As a bonus – yard pick up is reduced when I feed air-dried. I personally drove to my local Petco after ordering online for pick up ( I bring my own insulated carrying bags ) My 72 pd Boxer needs 10 bags a month . I drove straight home ( 6 mins ) and put in freezer .. I keep 4-5 on hand and then stick back up in rotation . 2 of those bags I had to completely throw away . When I opened them a week later , they was freezer burn and ice all through out the bag. I researched dog nutrition, 3 years ago, shortly after I adopted my maltipoos. We rescued our little pup pup over a month ago, she is now turning 4 mos. Did some research before hand on nutrition and absolutely knew we wanted to go raw. The rescue had her on kibble and gave us a free bag so we slowly added the frozen raw bites into her kibble! She loved it, and now we are at 75% raw to 25% kibble. Once we complete the kibble we will be 100% raw. These frozen bites are AMAZING during the teething phase!! Now we are slowly introducing the freeze-dried so the we will have more of a temperature stable option since we are actively outdoors most times. I will say that the only issue we found is finding that the food handlers have not ensured the bags stayed within temperature. We opened a bag here and there and you can tell that the bites have mushed together due to it being defrosted and refrozen. Not the foods fault more of a transport handling problem. My dogs love this food so much. My one dog has bad allergies so I took her off kibble altogether to try to help with her overall allergies as she has environmental ones. Some of the ingredients in kibble can increase her body's response to those environmental ones as she has some food sensitivities as well. So far this Beef and Lamb seems to be helping and she loves it. My other pup has been on raw and I added this in as a healthy alternative. He loves it so much and in my opinion the quality is just as good as raw with less worry about contamination. They almost knock me over for this food – it's insane – they love it. I'm glad this doesn't contain chicken so they both can enjoy it! I hope FP comes out with a product in this consistency that is just fish protein as another alternative in the future. I started my girls on this a week ago and it has been great for my girls. I didn't really want a raw diet but I wanted a nutritious diet for my dogs. I had to buy this formula of fresh pet this time because they were out of the ones I normally buy for my dog. I usually buy the tubes (bison, chicken or turkey). My dog did not like this formula as well. I was able to get the small tubes of chicken so I am putting a little chicken in with the beef to get her to eat it. We have tried many different dry dog foods but to be honest wen u look at the ingredients they are basically junk food for dogs. Ziwi peak dry and wet food for that matter is fantastic. Our boy was rehomed to us and wouldnt eat most of the things we tried…the ziwi peak food he cleans up and has now put decent weight back on too. The dry food is convenient and knowing it's great quality we are very happy. Is a bit expensive but as you feed less it's ok. Great alternative to a raw diet.Travis
My little Tibetan Spaniel x Pomeranian, Muffin, is a really fussy eater so trying to find food that she likes and is good for her has been a bit of a nightmare! However, I was sent a sample pack of the Ziwipeak chicken and she loved it!! Consequently I ordered the 1kg pack and will definitely be sticking to this from now on. Muffin so enjoys tea time now. Sometimes I add a little raw meat but she always prefers the Ziwipeak. Her breath is so much sweeter since changing to Ziwipeak and her teeth are clean and white. I got these because my dog is getting older and I need to switch her to softer foods. The bag is lightweight since it's freeze dried and seals nicely shut with the zip top. Upon opening the bag and seeing the patties I was a bit disappointed seeing that many of the patties were broken up. There were many still intact thankfully so I have a good idea of what 1/2 or 1/4 of the patties look like or if need be how much a whole patty would be now. The feeding guide on the back was great to figure out portioning. There is an option to use the patties as a topper to other dog food as well. The directions to prepare the food are a bit lacking. I wasn't sure how long to wait after adding the water. I wanted over 5 minutes but I could have probably stirred it earlier and just given it to my dog. Any issues aside my dog loves this food and gobbled it up right away. Overall this dog food is great! I appreciate the wholesome ingredients and I have a great food for my dog that I can feel good offering her as she ages.NPRIOLO
I am always looking for a healthy "real" food for my dogs. Something I can give them and know that its all natural and actually good for them. I also have a diabetic dog and have to really watch everything he eats. I always make homemade food for my dogs, but they get tired of eating the same old-same old. I was happy I found these. For my diabetic, I can add a few crumbles of one of the patties as a topper to his homemade food, and the other night I rehydrated a half of patty and mixed it in with his food and he LOVED it. I took 2 patties and rehydrated them for my GS and mixed it with some boiled chicken breast and it was gone in seconds. I am happy with the ingredient and how really quick I can rehydrated the patties. And because they are dehydrated, they require no refrigeration unless you hydrate them, so I can take them with me when we go on vacation, just add hot water. My dog is a picky eater and the only food she tends to want to eat is food that doesn’t tend to have a ton of good ingredients for her and wet food and she won’t take vitamin and she can tell when it’s in her food so I figure because this not only has really Turkey parts in it but also squash, pumpkin, herring and a ton of extra ingredients I wasn’t expecting but I know add a ton of extra vitamins and minerals that dogs need to be healthy. For starters I was surprised how by how big these are, I was expecting them to be more pellet sized but they are the size of a bone dog treat and also the have a very soft texture that makes it easier to tear apart and easy for your dog eat. Because these are freeze dried you can soften them with water if you have dog who need extremely soft food. By the selves my dog wouldn’t eat them but once I mixed these with her regular food she inhale it with her regular food. Honestly I feel a lot better adding these to her food because it has real ingredients and a texture she can easily eat and for me that’s a real plus and since she has been eating it she has been eating a lot better because she wouldn’t always eat all her food and she has eaten everything we have given her plus it has helped making taking her out easier for her. We purchased two kinds. Two packages, chicken, and beef, for the shelf. Three for the freezer, 2 chicken, one beef. The packages with shelf life were like paste. Literally paste. It made me nauseous just to look at it. My dog wouldn't even taste it. She simply walked away from both packages. The frozen food at least had some consistency and even smelled good. I usually make our lil guy’s food but didn’t have the time to do so this week. We chose to give the “frozen, ready to use, version of the DIY chicken and rice kit that I use. I divided it into 6oz baggies to use (I use a kitchen scale for 100% accuracy), and I only got 10 baggies out of the 72 oz bag, leaving me extremely short (12 ozs to be exact). I won’t use this again as it’s not cost efficient with 12 ounces of water. As for taste, my dog couldn’t tell the difference between what I make and the JFFD frozen recipe. Just wish it was truly 72 ozs of product, not water weight.Waghart
3-4 months ago new packaging has been used for the 72oz size and it seems that the net weight is now including food and water weight. The old packaging did not have so much water in it as it does now. There was actually 72oz of solid food in it. There is an excessive amount of water in the new 72oz packages. From what I measured, there is now only 56 oz of solid dog food. I've been buying this dog food for a year and the reason why I am bothered by this change. Besides the water content, the new packaging is not waterproof. The seal breaks at some point because of the poor design of the new packaging. There is food, the plastic seal, and then 2-3 inches of extra plastic that is not filled with food. So if you thaw the food in a bowl of cold water, that cold water seeps into the package…I have to put the package in a 1 gallon plastic bag and then in the bowl of cold water. It is a big inconvenience to have to drain the dog food every time I need it. Before it was thaw and transfer to a container. The amount of water in the package was never noticeable and was just the right amount to keep the food moist. It was 98% just food… Now it is thaw, place dog food in strainer, wait 5 mins to drain out water, but not all of the water because then the food becomes very dry…then transfer into a container. I am now in search of a new brand. I am not confident that the amount of nutrients is consistent every time I drain the food…not sure if it is being washed away from draining it. My 2-year-old Lab was diagnosed with liver damage due to toxic ingestion (something he ate). The first indication of a problem was lack of appetite. Correcting this problem is a long process but is working. He is still being treated but between the liver damage and medications his appetite is less than half of what it should be. I researched dog food for months. It seemed like all the better dog foods are just too expensive until a friend told me about The Honest Kitchen. Honest Kitchen grain free clusters has made such a difference for my fur baby. Serenity had ear infections since the day we got her at 3 months old. My pup loves this food. It's a bit on the expensive side, but worth it, knowing what he is eating. I don't keep it in the plastic as it is messy, so transfer it to another container for easy access. Since it takes a while to defrost so I always have the one that is in use, plus another defrosting, so we're ready to go. Ended up getting it in the store because the online delivery experience was horrendous!!!! Each time there was an issue with the delivery. I ordered multiple packages and they all came defrosted, then the other orders were delayed more than once. Not worth the aggravation. My small dog has been eating this frozen food for over a year now. When the store ran out of the food I bought it on line. The recipe is not the same. It is dry and mealy. My dog will not eat it despite adding broth or gravy. What a waste of money. I have 14 packages in my freezer that will never be eaten. Beside the fact it is not eatable the delivery was on time and the packaging kept the items frozen. I was home at the delivery and put the food immediately in the freezer.
