The advertised non-stick coating on the inside really works ! (I did purchase a new scoop made, not of metal, but of bamboo, so that it would not shorten the life of the non-stick coating.). This box is plenty big for 3 cats, and the high sides and back prevent most scattering of litter; the lower access on one end works well.Anonymous

I have a male cat that pees standing straight up and have been having a hard time finding a litter box with high enough sides to prevent him overshooting the sides. Even with the hood, this design does not quite do it. He ends up peeing on the seam, and the urine collects inside the seam and eventually drips out onto the floor. I have been compensating for this by putting strips of paper towels inside the seam. If I were to redesign this litter box, I would make the bottom portion a full 20 inches high, rather than 10, then put a short lid on top. That way, the urine cannot possibly reach the seam. Otherwise, I like the shape, and it is a nice, large box. I also like that the top is a light neutral color. If you have large cats that squat when they pee, this would be great for you. If you have high-pee-ers, you might want to try something else.esang1

Whose idea was it to start putting the stickers inside of the box (inside the lid where the latches close)? This is the place where most cats will urinate against and it's one of those stickers you cannot easily peel off. Terrible idea! I’ve had this for my two well behaved seniors for a year. That easy release finish doesn’t release urine soaked clumping litter. You scrape it off the sides just like every other litter box. Also, mine cracked at the corner of the black section and not at the top, right in the middle. 🙁 Not sure how that is possible. These aren’t aggressive cats. Finally, I don’t get litter box manufacturers… WHY would you place the lower half inside the upper half? Yes, this one had a tiny covering edge, so I hoped. Have you ever watched a cat urinate? It goes back in a strong spray. This automatically creates a way for urine to drop to the outside not the inside. I had to use clear packing tape and a sheet of light plastic to create a way to keep dripping inside. And the latching mechanisms are open to the inside as well so wear gloves or you will get a wet sticky surprise when opening to clean.Kish850

I had ordered this litter box last year and bought a different second "covered" litter box also. I have 2 cats and like to have 2 boxes that I change weekly. Recently, I ended up buying a second litter box like this one and gave away the other one I had gotten from Wal-Mart. I did this because this is the only litter box that I have bought that actually hides the smell and the stepping grate keeps less litter on the floor. My two older cats have only been using this new box for one week. To introduce them, I placed the new box near their regular box. I began transferring some soiled pellets into the new box, a bit more every day..After a week I stopped adding pellets to the older box and moved the new box into the regular place. I removed the roof to duplicate the open box they were used to. They slowly began using the new set-up.I was surprised that my average-sized cats were crowded in this new box (without the roof). I'm not certain what to expect once I add the roof, and eventually the door. With an open-top box I can easily see when the pellets become soiled and need removal. The roof will be something I too will need to get used to. I am hoping that nature will take over and the kitties will adjust to their new sand-box.wicker70

I've been searching for 2 years for a cat box with a cover AND door flap this small!!!! it fits in my very small utility closet well and the top folds up with a tray cats have to walk over to get in and out, love this box. Now the price is great can't complain, yes the top seems flimsy and does't latch on as it just rest in place but easy to add your own clips if need. I would say treat delicately and should be fine. It certainly contains the ODORS. LOVE THISTENABEENA

The female cat I inherited pees standing up. She had a hooded litter box, but pee would still seep between the hood and the box, dripping on the floor. So each time I cleaned the litter box, I had to clean the floor as well. This top-entry litter box seemed like a good solution, though I was not sure she would take to it, as she is a senior, and is 17 pounds. She was hesitant to get in at first, and she would jump out frantically, unlatching the cover, which does not seem to lock in place securely. I removed the cover and just situated a low box beside to ease her entry into the litter box. Now the set up is perfect. My floor is not wet with pee, my cat has gotten used to getting in and out.Fay

The whole reason behind this purchase was to try to reduce the amount of litter the cats throw (yes throw) out of the litter box! I can say I have seen less litter on the floor compared to the no lid traditional litter box. So I will give it 4 stars. I have only had it for maybe 4 days but so far so good. Another note my cat and foster cat refused to use it for the first couple of hours so I had to remove the lid in order for them to get in there and use it, but the next day we put the lid back on and everything is A-OK!UniqueChik

The holes for the litter to fall into don't really keep the cats from tracking litter all over on their way out (at least not for mine), and it's a little hard to clean thoroughly given it's shape and size – a little unwieldy – but my cats LOVE it so it's worth it. We have 3 cats and 3 different kinds of litter boxes and this is the one that gets the most use by far.Angelmarie

We could not be happier with the top entry litter tray and wish we had done this sooner. Previously when our cat would go potty in her old tray, there would be litter crystals tracked through the apartment and we would be constantly picking them up or vacuuming. Now, thanks to this top entry design we are lucky if there is one crystal to pick up! No joke. It took her a little while to get the hang of using it — we coaxed her with treats to get her to jump up and explore the top of it. At first she was reluctant to get inside, and I was a little nervous that she was associating it with her cat carrier (signal: vet!!) which has a top entry … but with patience, lots of treats and hiding the old litter tray, it was only a matter of 24 hours and she christened it 🙂 Now she uses it like a pro, as if it’s always been there.Danyah

I have 3 of these boxes now and am gradually replacing all my trays with them. A couple of my cats stand to wee and I’ve tried many different trays from covered front entry to high sided storage boxes and they always manage to get urine over the side. The Moderna top entry box solves this problem. Cleaning is easy with the lift up lid, and any tracking is taken care of by the lid as well. No worries with any of my cats using them either. OMG this litter box saved my life! My cat had been peeing while standing and made a lot of mess. I compared a few tall litter boxes online and decided to try this one from Modern Pets. Not just the looks (I bought the yellow/gray) is super stylish but it's made very well. Hardly any litter trail now yay! I raise collies and I'm raising my first litter using two of these litter boxes and "dry den" bedding. Every single pup uses the box for solid waste, which has made keeping their puppy pen clean so much easier. These pans are a perfect size for collie pups and two of them for seven pups works great. This is the kind of litter box I have dreamed about lol for years honestly, Finally someone made it practically as if I was to design it myself, the entrance is along the long wide side so when cat goes in their natural tendency should be to turn to the side which can help deter as much litter being tracked out etc, also the dimensions on this are perfect! large enough for a cat to be comfortable, the hood leaves great headroom, and it still looks sleek, Best of all and pleasantly surprised since this was a bit pricey. Its wide enough for my cats to walk around in it and keeps most of the litter in the box. I also love the design; it fits my room perfectly and doesn't make the room feel messy. This is not what you would call a regular size litter box. This is like an extra small. My bunny cant even fit on it. So Im not even going to bother taking it back. It was only 10 bucks. Arrived with a big crack on the front. Very cheap plastic and they actually want me to return this useless piece of garbage. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t just accept a photo of it where you can see the damage. It’s not like they can resell it! By the way, it wasn’t turquoise as shown in the photo. I waited a few months to review this item to give it a fair chance, First, my cats live the size, and they like the clear door so they can see each other. one likes to hornswaggle the other while he is doing his business. Second, it's pretty cheap. However those two attributes don't make up for the fact the there is a large gap around the door allowing the scent to expscape. Also, the hinge is horrible. One of the stems in the lid hinge just broke after only a couple of months. And you can't just buy the door. So now, I have. a doorless giant litter box. I have to find another. I have two boy kitties and they have occassional urinary issues. This box has the highest back of any box to date barring making your own with storage totes. And they were smart about the design where it comes together, so that even if they do manage to pee that high up, there aren't holes it will drip out of. It's also nice and flat on the interior so easier to clean and sanitize! We don't use the flap because they aren't used to that and don't like it–wouldn't go in at first because of it, but I'm guessing if they weren't quite set in their ways at this point it would have been no problem and further reduced the litter tracking and smells (one does not bury #2). They do prefer lidded ones though because as kittens one would occassionally try to play with the other while they were trying to use the potty and this one is quite roomy, letting them designate their areas with plenty of room. When we have to replace one of the other ones I would definitely order this again! Wish they carried them in the store though!Kat

first off- the title. the low front lip ensures that no matter what, even with the door 'closed' (which my cats abhore), any sort of burying they do flings a beyond irritating amount of litter out of the box. Even with a rubber mat, the trail of litter they leave with this box is astonishing. secondly- it is a NIGHTMARE to clean. the snaps are so stiff you basically need the freaking jaws of life to open them, and in a twist of humor-devoid fate, there is no good angle at which to place the trash receptical as not to spill yet *more* litter from this unwieldly and horribly designed box. I do not understand how it's as highly rated as it is, but whatever. I personally would recommend a variety of other boxes over this one.jamie

We've had this litter box for about 2 months and our cat starting using it within minutes of setting it up. I was hoping it would prevent litter tracking onto my floors, and it really, really has. It's in a tight spot in our bathroom where a mat to catch litter would be inconvenient. Lid is secure, but easy to remove. A tiny hook perfectly holds the scoop. The scoop is smaller than the average scoop, but works fine. Our cat has a healthy chunky butt, not exactly slender, and she pops right in and out. She doesn't bury turds well, so this is nice that they aren't on grand display. I'll be buying a second to replace the pan in the lower level of my home now that I know the cat doesn't mind and I appreciate not having grit stuck to my feet.Tracy

My cat is an “enthusiastic digger” and the high sides contain her action! Hurrah! The rounded shape is easy for her to turn around in and easy to clean. The depth of it also allows 6 “ of litter bedding and this works great! the bottom never gets soiled using lightweight litter and the box smells brand new after 3 weeks. (Cleaned daily.) I took the lid off as I was uncertain she would buy into the top entry but we may try it after a month. She took to this box immediately without the lid and I don’t think it will be necessary. I was a little hesitant to think my cats would use this box because of the jump through a hold to get into and out of. However, the cats are definitely use it. I think they took about 10 minutes to give it a try and have kept using it ever since. I've been using it about 4 days now and I can definitely tell you that the tracking of litter out of the box has reduced. The second most annoying thing about litter boxes is the tracking of litter out of it (first is the smell of course) and this litter box does great. This loses a star because the plastic feels like it could be a bit sturdier, so I am not sure how long lasting it will be. The scooper it comes with is also evidence that the plastic isn't that sturdy because if I tried to use it to scoop a big pile of clumped litter, the scooper flexes quite a bit. Firstly, the top entry litter box looks GREAT and has a modern, futuristic feel to it. I love the fact there's a reusable liner which makes it very easier to throw away litter. The hanging scoop is so nice and makes it easier to scoop the clumps out. I love that there's a swivel lid because it makes it so much easier to scoop without the manual work of taking the entire lid off. This litter box also does a great job with containing odor (of course, with the help of a deodorizer.) There's also holes on the swivel lid which prevents litter tracking. In addition, I purchased the large litter mat which has been working out for us. For dog owners- your dog won't be snacking around since it limits access. Totally worth my $$$Nusrat A.

I would highly recommend this product as a proud and happy cat dad. Yes, it is aimed at a higher price point. However, it is worth it. I regard it as an investment. Trust your instincts and the reviews of other consumers who have purchased this. They speak for themselves. It took my orange male tabby perhaps fifteen minutes for him to acclimate to his new box. He was somewhat taken aback by it. I placed him on top of the lid and he just sat there in surprise and amazement. Eventually, he jumped in and did his business amidst his new surroundings. What drew me to this initially was course the aesthetics. It is sleek and beautiful and understated. It truly elevates the look of any room. I have never seen anything like it. I knew I had to have it. Functionally, what I enjoy most about this is not seeing as much litter on the floor. My previous litter box was smaller and had a front opening where remnants of litter were always dispersed on the floor when he was done using it. I was constantly sweeping throughout each and every day. Not fun! With Modkat, I spend much less time with the latter. A big game changer. I rarely find litter on the floor in the bathroom now because he jumps out from the top now instead of walking out of the box. Let's not forget about the scooper on the side, which is tidy and wonderful. Everything comes together with this tight, clean look. I used to line my previous litter box with old newspapers. With Modkat, I utilize their plastic liners, which are reusable, eco friendly and are sustainable for three months; a lot of thought went into this. I am fastidious by nature and wash the box including the liner with soap and cleaning solution in the bathtub to eliminate any lingering scents after dumping the soiled litter in the garbage. It might seem like more work, but it becomes a much cleaner and seamless process once you've developed your own method. I was worried that my cats would have a hard time adjusting to a top entry litter box. However, they figured it out extremely quick. They also are enjoying the ball game that came with the box. I really love that the top entry design keeps the majority of the litter in the box. There is a very small amount that ends up on the floor. I feel like the little stays cleaner for longer and actually clumps better than it did when they were using an open litter box. The liner is holding up extremly well and surprisingly it is not getting all gross, at least not yet. I am very happy with my purchase. It is a quality product and well designed. I was really excited about this product! I have one cat who (somehow) hikes her rear end up super high in the back of our covered litter boxes (the kind with a swinging door). Sometimes, she hikes her behind up so high that urine gets in the crease where the top of the current box meets the bottom. When that happens, pee rolls down the back of the current box I use and gets on the floor (SO GROSS). So I was SUPER excited about this litter box because the walls are too tall for spillage and there’s no “crease” to get pee into. Kitty did not initially like the box (which is weird since it is a box and she usually gets in all boxes). Before I put litter in it, I left it out without the lid- no dice. I happened to have some liquid catnip (Walmart sells it for super cheap) and I spritzed the inside of the litter box. Suddenly there was interest! I added the litter after the investigation and added some more sprays of catnip. It took a few days; but then kitty preferred this top-entry box and stopped using the old one altogether. With an 2 year old cat and a 10 week kitten, I was a bit hesitant switching to this litter box, but I've had my eye on it for months as the next litter box to try out. I was unsure if my adult cat would make the switch since she's always had an open box and/or if my kitten would easily get in and out of the box at this age. I'm pleased to say my cat make the transition with ease. In fact, I think she prefers this over the open litter boxes because it gives her privacy. My kitten is still transitioning to this litter box. She can successfully get out, but she is a little more wary going in versus using an open box. We take off the lid when we know she's going to do her business and put it on after she's finished (and still in container) and this seems to have helped. I will more than likely buy an additional box in the smaller size for her. Since my cat and kitten have been using this box, I notice they rarely track now, which is the main feature of this litter box that I was interested. I am more than satisfied with the results. I have noticed a very slight cutdown on smell, but we scoop frequently, so smell isn't generally an issue for us. There are numerous color options and since these litter boxes don't look like traditional litter boxes, you can blend them in with furniture as needed. This system is absolute perfection!! 5 years later and still in love. No smells, no mess, no clumpy litter. My cat was toilet trained for 4 years until I moved into the new house and our toilet would run if anyone sat on it. when my cat would jump up on the toilet to go to the bathroom the toilet would run it would scare him and he would run off. I had only agreed to get the cat if they let me toilet train it. well 4 years later I can't get rid of them LOL, so I had to find a system. My fiance didn't want me to buy this only because he said it looked like a hoax. He had six cats before me so felt was an expert. hi fat Cats in every animal you could imagine for 40 years so I'm always open to trying things especially since I hate the smell of cat urine. the system is absolutely wonderful. we have had the same pellets for a year. if for some reason your cat has diarrhea, which I hope it doesn't, and the pellets get really gross you can just wash them dry them completely and reuse them. But usually the pellets dehydrate the poop, and dehydrated enough that wants to poop is dry the pellets fall right off. Meaning you're only scooping poop, not pellets. we have one cat and only change the pad once every week sometimes every two weeks.Dove2009

I bought the original size Breeze Litter Box system in May 2020. We had adopted an approximately 5-year-old mixed breed, short-haired, neutered male cat then. This is the only litter box system he has known while he has lived with us. I switched to the XL system about a year ago as my cat is 15 lbs, muscular, and, well, looked rather sad spanning the entire box when he had to urinate. Here are my takeaways: 1. If your cat does not cover the fecal matter with pellets, this system will not work for you. We have been very fortunate as Blue has had no issues with covering with the pellets. If you are training kittens, you may have to train them to cover their litter. 2. Use only the pads that Tidy Cats provides for better scent control. I have used several other, less expense pads, and they did not work for the smell of the cat urine. I would note that intact males probably have an even stronger scent. 3. I have a vinyl protection pad under the cat box. This is not because I have issues with my cat urinating on the sides and leaking out; I have forgotten to put a pad into the box and replace the tray. Others have mentioned leaking, but I have not had that issue. 4. I have had no real issues with smell. Unlike other cat litter, I have no problem remembering to scoop the litter at least once a week, and to change the pad at the same time for trash day. The smell doesn't drive this, it is just that easy to maintain. 5. This cat litter is a solid mineral. When a cat is scooping, you will know it. If you have a noise sensitivity, it may bug you. Blue will scratch in the litter for a longer period if he feels it is too full. It is sort of like an alarm reminding me to check the box.Acidfrost59

The design of this litter box is awesome, but it’s not perfect. One of my cats is a giant, so this is the perfect size for him. He also has crystals and has had urinary blockages. This is the perfect litter box to make sure he is urinating because urine seeps to the bottom and is absorbed by a pad. You just pull out the drawer, and you can obviously see whether or not your cats are urinating. It took over a week for my cats to take to this litter box. It uses pellets, and my cats are used to crystal litter. Some cats may never take to it, so keep that in mind. This is an expensive litter box to maintain. Basically you have to buy the special litter. No other litter will work in this box. Even pine pellets, when they turn to dust it will fall through the grates at the bottom and make a big mess, and this litter is expensive. A tiny 7lb bag of pellets is $18, but it’s also supposed to last a month. So far at almost 2 weeks, the pellets look fresh and don’t smell. Every time you scoop out poo though, you’ll be removing some pellets. Keep that in mind too. The pads that you need to absorb urine are over $20, and 10ish pads come in a pack. The pads do last a while and don’t smell which is good, but this is expensive to maintain. Also, you’re supposed to use a 3lb bag. It’s not enough for cats to bury their poo, so it sits on top, and it will smell when they poo unless you scoop it right away. You have the option to add 2 bags, but again, that gets expensive although it adds enough Litter to bury poo. However, because it’s overfilled, when they dig, some of it will end up on your floor. Not the end of the world though because it leaves no dusty residue on the floor, and it’s super easy to just sweep up. I wish I could use a different litter with this box, but I’ve had this box for over a week and there’s no smell, and the pellets look fresh, but then again, they just started using it more frequently. I still haven’t been able to get rid of my old litter box yet. Again, this is a great option if you have big cats or your cats suffer from crystals and urinary blockages, but it’s expensive to maintain, and it’s not as perfect as I thought it would be for $80. If your cats don’t have issues with their current litter box or don’t have crystals, I can’t recommend it. It’s a super expensive litter box. It would be one thing if it was perfect, but it’s not.Custadio

I bought this litter box for use in the main living area of my house. I bought it specifically because it doesn't look like a litter box, draw attention to itself, and blends pretty well with the rest of my house. It was expensive, in my opinion, but the lifetime warranty made me more comfortable with the price. Pros: Cats use without fail or complaint Attractive Well-made and durable Easy to assemble Cons: Could stand to be about 4" taller. It is a bit small for taller/longer cats. I have a large (tall) Ragdoll who could benefit from a little more headroom. He uses it with no issue but he is a little cramped for space. He takes up the entire litter box compartment when he's in in and the entire entry/exit box on his way in and out. The "low profile" design also makes cleaning out the box somewhat cumbersome. I have to pull out the litter box at least a few inches in order to adequately clean it. Or alternatively, kneel on the floor so I can get my arm far enough back into the compartment to completely clean the box. An additional 4" of height or a hinged top would help with this too. Other: The box can only be configured as shown; the doors and compartments cannot easily be reconfigured so that the entry/exit is on the left. The panels have prepunched holes for the pegs used to hold it together which makes reconfiguration an issue (or it would be for me anyway.)Julie

Worst product ever. I tried to be eco-friendly by buying this for our male cat. But the construction materials are garbage. The cat urinated on the scratch pad and ruined it. The underlying cabinet panel absorbed some of it and despite sanitizing what I could, the cat detected the scent and did it again. Completely deteriorated the panel and it began to smell badly. While I can appreciate that this company is trying to be more eco-conscious, the lightweight materials leave this product feeling very flimsy. That being said, it does seem to be sturdy enough as we've been using this for a couple of months now. The bigger issue is that the finish does not seem to be waterproof which is especially troubling considering the purpose of the product is to house a litter box. I intend on finishing it with some kind of water-proof or water-resistant product like paint or a vinyl sheeting in order to protect it from potential spills. If I hadn't purchased this product on an exceptional sale and with rewards points I would have returned it.Jesse

I love how you can open the lid and it slides the litter that was on the lid, back into the box. I love that I can easily attach the litter scoops to the box. I like to attach them to the sides so that my cats are inclined to exit out the front instead of the sides. The box works at reducing litter spread for 2 of my cats who take their time and hop onto the lid before stepping off, but is no match for my cat who darts right out at the speed of light.J
