Good book, tried and tested. Arrived quickly, thank youannbutte
When my son and I adopted two Pit puppies from the ASPCA, they included in the price of adoption eight obedience lessons that we were highly motivated to attend. The puppies were NOT housebroken and needed lots of training. The puppies were just three months old. The ASPCA recommended the book How to Teach a New Dog Old Tricks by Ian Dunbar. Though it is an old method it has worked beautifully. It is a very kind and very successful way of training your new puppy. It has now been almost three months and the puppies are doing beautifully. They are both housebroken, know how to sit, down, leave it and come. They are well behaved and we are very proud of them. Using the methods in the book has made that happen.reemomlib
Ian Dunbar is one of the world's leading experts in positive dog training. This book is easy to read, informative and entertaining. The other two books were a bonus.kbis4866

I've been reading a lot of dog training books, particularly Cesar Millan's (love him!), and I wanted to focus more on tricks. I decided to buy this book because I like positive reinforcement techniques – rewarding good behavior. My three dogs are very well-behaved (thanks to Cesar) and I was ready to move on to some star performances. I like how the Bielakiewiczes break down the tricks into steps; some were a bit too basic for my super-smart Rottie, but the other mutts are really benefiting from the one-foot-in-front-of-the-other approach. Patience is key (and sometimes it's challenging!); the authors are right about that. But as long as a trainer can keep everything planned out, with short sessions and lots of positive reinforcement any dog can be a star!kitchenstairs

Reviews:
Cool tricks. Lousy instructions. Someone who is better at explaining the procedures should have edited this book. A serious lack of clicker knowledge as well. Author wants reader to use the clicker but appears to be unable to use it as intended which is to mark a correct behavior. Correct clicker usage requires exact timing to ensure dog's understanding. However, in one instance author states "and just click away". What does that mean? For the general pet owner, that's exactly what they'll do, and the dog will have no clue as to what it means. That is a completely inaccurate way to use a clicker. Just one example of a what-the-heck book. Sorry I spent the money.austinratterriers
