Reviews:
I bought the boots for my elderly Golden Retriever who has a degenerative spinal condition. He has lost a lot of strength in his hind quarters and struggles at times to,get up off our tiled floors. He relies on his front paws to,do,the pushing to get up but sometimes his front paws or back paws slip making it harder still for him to be mobile. The boots are wonderful because his paws stay put. He is able to stand up with no slipping making it easier all around. The need to buy the boots became urgent when he did something to his back and suddenly lost a lot of mobility. He was unable to get himself up without assistance. Getting the boots helped so much while he was like this. Things returned to some level of normal after a week or so but we are still using the boots daily just to make his life easier. It’s really a case of managing his condition in these last months so he is comfortable. He adapted very quickly to the boots and doesn’t seem at all bothered by them.Sarah L.
My dog instantly adapted to these which was kind of disappointing because I was looking forward to goofy walking lol. We climbed a mountain yesterday and I brought them with just in case, on the way down she kept sitting so I put them on (with socks) and it was like she was so excited to have them on she wanted to fly down the trail, the rocky trail (not skree) was more irritating for her paws than I realized. She thought she was invincible now lol, but they are definitely more slick than just paws so she did slide a few times on steep dirt and tripped on bigger rocks while getting used to wearing them. Only gripe – I think I bought and returned three separate pairs before I finally got ones that fit, so who knows how much these ended up costing after the shipping back and forth. The designers do not take into account how giant paws are shaped. I got the boots that fit her width exactly and they were too small because of how tall her paws are too. I did a video fitting with an employee after my first order failure and the sizes that were recommended to me also didn't fit (couldn't even get on). I ended up just getting the biggest ones for the front and second biggest for back and hoped for the best, and they fit great, but according to their sizing (and person from video call) it would be too big. Silver lining, with her fat paws these definitely aren't falling off. I think socks are definitely required for overall comfort though. I love Ruffwear but my biggest complaint is that their large/xl sizes are not designed for actually large/xl dogs, so when following their chart for the really big sizes, they are assuming paws are still shaped like a golden retriever's. Or in the case with vests, they assume the dog is just fat and not actually extra large in shape so while the girth is well within the range they say, the arm holes don't even reach.Rachelle
Ankle Straps could go a little snugger and a little higher. They wrapped right at the dew claws. Nothing vet wrap and socks couldn't fix. Otherwise, a real paw-saver. First day of a week long trip, her toepads on all 4 paws got glued together with pine sap, took forever to get out. After that, she wore them for the rest of the trip with no complaint. Terrain was forest, pine cones, loose gravel, hard dirt, sand, hot asphalt and cement. Bonus, she came into the tent with clean feet. The lichen green color and reflective trim made it easy to find when one fell off. At the time, it was just me and her. As a woman I felt surprisingly safer because the booties and her red palisades pack made us VERY VISABLE. Got compliments and looks up and down the trail, 2 different rangers even stopped to check in just because of the get up. Took a week to break in. Reflective trim worked great for night time walks at home. I loved them and most importantly she loved them too.Chelsea

Reviews:
We were given these shoes as a trail from Kurgo before they were released. This was months ago and not in exchange for a review so please know this review is in all honesty. We absolutely love these boots. I have a 40lb ACD/Border Collie mix and he is a size XXS. This was a huge surprise for me because I originally intended for them to be for my 25lb ACD. They have held up extremely well to our weekly use due to my being a dog trainer and living in Florida. The pavement is very hot and due to my profession, we have to be out in the heat of the day. These boots do great at protecting my boy’s feet! They are also the only boots that I have found that are tall enough to cover the dew claws and not rub them raw or require socks. The only two negatives are: firstly, due to dogs controlling their body temp through their feet, you have to be careful and take them off frequently in hot weather. This would be the same for any brand boot though. Secondly, I WISH they made them in a smaller size for my other dog. She desperately needs dog boots and Kurgo’s are the only ones I trust!Caitlin B
At first I was really concerned, because our dog was walking very stiff and bow-legged once these shoes were on. But it took about three wears and now she's walking smoother and very comfortable in them. These are very adorable shoes. I understand that these are a more practical shoe, but they're still very cute on our dog! So far these have been working great on dirt, mud, snow, and in the rain. I'm just happy that for once I don't have to clean off her feet everytime she comes in! Doubly a step I can pass since she's a white-haired dog. And one thing to note is that in the beginning, I was wondering why the shoes kept popping off till I noticed that the shoes come in different lengths for the front and back feet. Great to know because it assures a much more comfortable fit for them. But otherwise, I really do like these shoes! I've never gotten shoes like these for any of our dogs, but I would love to get a couple more pairs once these are worn out.Courtney J
I've tried other dog booties on my dobermans before they were worthless. These are the Best Dog boots out there. I live in Arizona and hiking here is lots of really rocky terrain and cactus, along with the occasional rattle snake you have to vier off the trial into cactus terrain. With these boots we have no problems. Every time we are out hiking we get many inquiries as to their boots and appreciation that I take that good care of my pups. Tried uploading photos…. Only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars, is the glue does wear out and the rubber separates from the shoe. I just use shoe glue to repair until it is time to get a new pair.Agent Meier

Reviews:
I recently wrote to the company because I just bought a pair of these for my doodle. After about 5-6 times using them, the fabric has started to rip apart and it wasn't even rough terrain. Maybe I have a defective pair, I'm not sure. In addition, if your dog has dew claws, you will have to buy carbon to wrap around the leg and then put the boots on, even if you buy the socks. I would recommend future models be made higher, this will keep out more dirt and less risk of cutting the dew claws. My dogs were bleeding after the walk. Also, the velcro comes undone a lot. I had to constantly stop and re-do the velcro, which is a bit of a bummer. Maybe the boots need two straps, or a string, or a zipper, I'm not entirely sure. The sole of the boot looks great and my dog does not mind wearing them after a minute or so. I'm thinking to trade them for the upgrade style and see if these last longer. I love Ruffwear and we have so many of their products, I'm not willing to give up just yet. This is a great company based in Oregon and I would prefer to support them, but the first go round did not work out. I look forward to talking to someone at the company and possibly getting a different replacement – see how that goes! Thanks for providing awesome products for the pups!Caden B.
Shoes rotate on my dog and due claw bleeding is real. Get socks. My dog is older and recently experienced a kneed joint issue. We love her and want her to live her best life. Sow we bought the shoes. They help on hard floors like tile and wood. The shoes are good but a softer rubber compound would be better. Also a strip of rubber banded around the shoe would help the twisting issue.Lucy S.
these worked great for my Standard Schnauzer, they have a great fit and she has had zero issues with them. I have nothing but praise for the quality and usability of this product for her however, for my 12lb Chi mix, it is a much more hit and miss experience. the problem is that they just aren't quite small enough. I've examined them closely, and it's obvious that the materials, especially the sole, are just too hefty to make in a very small size. but a very small dog could get more than adequate protection with a thinner sole and less heavy-duty fabric and velcro. but from a manufacturing standpoint, I can absolutely see that it would be really costly to have to make a line of tiny-dog shoes using different materials. however, I also see small dogs hiking out on our normal routes (which are typically loops or out-n-backs of 4-7 miles) so I KNOW there are a lot of small dog owner like me looking for a genuine hiking shoe for tiny feet! so, we use the smallest shoe you guys make only on really rough ground, and I just keep a close eye on her so that when one comes off I can retrieve it. I just wish they came another size or 2 smaller, and had a lighter velcro around the top, for a better fitmollie j.

Have a 58 lb Border Collie. Found the sizing chart not to be very accurate. Width on larger size (back paws) too much room. Have to wrap Velcro very tight around skinny ankles to stay in place. If Velcro starts to separate and snow gets in, hard to reattach. Would not purchase again.JMP

I purchased these 'boots' in XL. Calling them 'boots' is a stretch. They are basically thick balloons to keep your dogs paws dry and free of salt. They work fine for that purpose, but getting them on my dogs feet is impossible. The opening of the XL is the same size as the opening of the SMALL. I have to use both hands to stretch the balloon open and have my husband put his paw in. Once they are on, they snap back and are so tight they cut off the circulation to my dogs feet. It's like wearing a tight rubber band around your wrist and watch your hand turn blue. Flawed design. We tried cutting the opening a little, which was helpful, but several of the 'boots' ripped when we stretched them to get them on. Would be much better if the opening of the balloon was larger…..XL large paws have thicker legs than Small paws.
I have a 97 lb. German Shepard. He is in a wheelchair/cart because he has no coordination or muscling in his hind legs. Because of this, he drags his feet and knuckles over, causing scrapes and bleeding to his hind feet. I have tried a wide range of items including my own protective foot wrap. ALL have fallen off in the first few strides. PawZ are a dream come true; they stay on, protect his feet and are reusable. Currently, I only use the boots on his hind feet. He takes a size Large and just like our own shoes, you need to get the correct size for you dog. *******IMPORTANT*******DO NOT LEAVE THESE BOOTS ON YOUR PET’S FEET FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME!!! They are snug around the neck of the boot, so I would suggest removing them immediately after you return from walking. I wouldn’t suggest using them for indoor traction for any period of time.Eli12
We got these for our parents dog because everywhere they can take him out in the winter has giant chunks of salt that really bother his paws. The top of the boots are very tight! Be very careful if your dog has sore legs or paws, don't put these on unless you cut the tops to let up some pressure. I bought the Lg size for a pit bull and they fit well besides being tight at the top. Unfortunately the dog we got them for had a bad experience, within a few minutes they were hurting him, and even more to get them off. They should be fine now that we cut them but hoping he will have forgotten the unpleasant experience by next winter. We tried the same ones on our small dog and they were tight on his legs which were half the size or less of the pitbulls. If your dog has very arthritic legs or paws, or even if they're sensitive you may want to get the more permanent type boots that are more gentle to get on/offcatelynprovos-0

These aren't the most comfortable things for dogs I'm sure but I love that they have a reflective strip on them and they velcro on so I can adjust how tight they are. In the Chicago winters, my dog has a hard time walking more than a block or two between the cold snow and the salt. I put these on her and she walked two miles like it was no problem! She walked through ice puddles and on top of uneven snowy surfaces and she seemed fine.J.A.B.
The good: These booties solved a huge problem for me and my dog; salt. We live in the Boston area and they salt the roads and sidewalks heavily. The dog couldn't walk ten feet before he came up lame. I'd brush his paws off, he'd go another ten feet, lame again! It was bad. So I went on a booties search. Found ones that I couldn't get on, others that wouldn't stay on and then, finally these. The cuffs stretch and make it easy to pull them on and as long as you cinch the velcro straps down snugly, they stay on. They made the salt problem go away completely. Success! Now the not so good: Not waterproof. They get soaked through quickly. I bought a second pair and alternate, one pair drying while the second pair is in use. Not very durable. After about ten walks they were showing serious signs of wear. But the two pairs will make it through this winter and I've already bought two more for next winter. They are inexpensive enough to make that a reasonable proposition for me. If your dog is bothered by snow and ice (mine isn't) these booties may not be the best solution but if salt is your concern they will do the job.D.

Reviews:
This is a great product! Incredibly sturdy – these are very well made booties. This is Gunther's first winter. We decided to get him boots because we live in a more urban area and he would need to walk across all sorts of deicer throughout the winter. We also went through the first snow of the season without boots for him, and he did not like the cold on his feet. He kept alternating lifting his paws out of the snow because they were getting cold! Let me start by saying that we use the boots along with the recommended socks. The socks helped with two aspects: comfort for Gunther (my shoes rub when I don't wear socks – why would I want that for him?), and to make it SO much easier to pull the boots up over nails/dewclaws. We followed all instructions online for measuring our dog's feet. We purchased the boots that fit the measurements we took, and they are the perfect size. Gunther tolerates them well. He doesn't love them, but he will wear them without a problem. There is definitely a learning curve when it comes to putting the boots on. We were careful to make sure that we didn't pull the boots up so high that it would put pressure on his nails… but then we were leaving the boot too low and it would slide off in the snow. After a few rounds of putting the boots on, we finally got into a groove. It still takes two of us – it is too difficult to hold up his leg, keep the sock on, and wiggle his foot into the boot with just one person (this would be true of any boots, not just these!). If you have a more relaxed dog, you should be able to do it with just one person. Overall, I highly recommend these boots! They have made winter more tolerable for Gunther and his humans.Jamie B.
Have a 130lb Dogo Argentino. She didn’t like them at first. She still doesn’t really like them. But they protect her from the salt and ice. Which this year she cracked 2 nails in half. They need to be put on snug and tight. Recommend the socks. Walked for miles and miles without them falling off once. The winter ones with the gator are pretty much water proof. We needed to keep her nails dry so they can heal better. Definitely protect her paws. And people kept stopping me and complementing me on them. Surprisingly almost no one knows these exist.Sean B.
Before purchasing these boots for my 2 goldendoodles, I reviewed the many comments. I noted the concerns for 1) falling off 2) rubbing the skin on the paws 3) irritation to the dewclaw. To combat the rubbing on the paw, I chose to trim up the paws of my pups but I left a good amount of fur on the top of their paws. By leaving this fur a little thicker, I also believe that this has helped in keeping their boots on their feet. To combat the dewclaw potential issue, I ensure that the main part of the boot is over the top of the dewclaw and I also push my pup's fur over the dewclaw for added cushion. I have not seen any irritation on my Dan's foot near his dewclaws. My Lily's dewclaws were removed as a pup so I am not concerned in this area (obviously) for her. We do alot of hiking in the mountains and the snow is deep. My pups are off leash running into the woods and then back onto the road. I was very concerned about the boots coming off of them and then I would not be able to find them in the snow. So, I purchased adjustable mitten/glove clips which I put thru the legs of their snow suits and then attach to their boots. Since I have not yet had an issue with their boots falling off, I am unable to state that the mitten clips will hold onto the boots if any of them do fall off. I recommend as well to tighten the velcro straps very securely. When I first put the boots onto my pups feet (especially speaking in regards to rear feet), I found that the rear boots were beginning to slip off. I tightened those velcro straps quite snugly, and I have not had an issue with slippage again. My pups run and play and then run and play some more. I am so pleased with these boots. I can put them on with their suits in 12 minutes (both dogs). And then we can all enjoy a good outdoor hike in the snow without the worries of paw irritation from the snow.Lori B.

About 2-3 years ago, I bought a pair of these booties for my golden retriever-mix service dog, Maggie. We live in northern Minnesota & have snow from November thru, um, April so Maggie needs paw protection often & in significant snow/sale. Previously I purchased cheaper boots for her but they always fell off or their material was too flimsy. I have learned that you get what you pay for with these quality paw protectors with the non-skid yet bendable "soles". Most importantly, tho, is that Ultra Paws have TWO (2) Velcro bands securing the boots to the dog paw. The booties do NOT fall off when you slide them on & tighten the Velcro correctly. When we are out & about, Maggie often gets stopped as people check out her fashionable boots. Numerous times I have been asked about the booties' performance, durability — & most importantly — whether they stay on. I enthusiastically endorse Ultra Paws! One set of the booties is worth the price of 2 cheap sets. When there is snow outside & Maggie wants to go for a walk, she sees me approach her with the mitts & lets me put them on her paws. We are both happy customers of Ultra Paws.MinneSnowTa Mama
Okay, first off I didn't buy these through Smartpak (they didn't carry them.) I bought them years ago through Amazon. My boxer pup and I hike hundreds of miles every year. However, one year she was having trouble building up her callouses, so I got a set of these. Since then they never leave my pack while we are out and about. They are so useful it is foolish to not have a set. Did you pup cut their paw, no problem. Did you go too far and the pup has sore feet, problem solved. Are you out on icy terrain that could cut the pup's paw, you're set. Seriously, this is something that any dog owner who puts miles on their pup needs to own.Skydas
I have a Large 90 lbs Weimaraner, and the Size Large and they fit perfectly. The black part is nice and thick BUT NOT Hard like some other boots, so they are comfortable on his paws. It only took him like maybe 10 minutes to get used to them. Mostly because he LOOVES to go outside, so I just side tracked him by opening the front door so he was to excited about going outside, he didnt have time to really concentrate on these new weird things on his feet. BEST PART: They DO NOT come off!!tealcstar

Ok here is my short version! Love this shoe but not for any dog that is just learning to walk in shoes! They weigh a LOT!! They are made well and look amazing when my boy is strolling The halls doing dog therapy at the hospitals. I recommend anyone who is looking at these to get your dog trained on a light shoe first, if you have an old dog consider how heavy these are I mean they are as heavy as a toddlers shoe like the nike or Jordan heavy ones. My dog has been wearing shoes for 4 years and walked in these like he had never put on shoes before for about 2 mins. That is my 2 cents :-). I love them they are cool and made well!! We got the large for our 85lb German Shepherd definitely plenty big and he has HUGE FEET!!kmfirefightress
These little booties appear to be made well, and the fit was perfect for my 15 pound pup. However, she was very awkward, and the bottoms were too stiff for her to run/climb properly, would probably not be a problem with a larger (or more coordinated) dog. They stayed on reasonable well on my wiggly girl. The LED lights are neat, but kind of pointless in my opinion, just added to the weight of the boots. I ended up returning them since they weren't quite right for us.Becca W
