Best Dog Ear Drops (Jan 2023 Update)

Mometamax product review: Given how common ear infections are in every day veterinary practice, and how difficult it is for some clients to medicate their pets ears twice to three times daily with prescribed topical medications, I was so excited when this wonderful product came out a few years ago with ONCE daily topical dosing. While many veterinarians do expensive evaluations of ear discharges under the microscope or ear cultures sent to outside labs, I would first ask your vet to prescribe one of the broadest acting topical antimicrobials on the market in Mometamax, before subjecting you to expensive superfluous tests, which may not be needed at least initially. . The truth of the matter is that most ear infections in dogs or cats are due to overgrowth of yeast and/or bacteria often together in inflamed ear canals. The vast majority of these infections are often accompanied by redness, swelling, heat and discharge, which are all signs of inflammation or allergies. These latter conditions are why it is so important to have an effective anti inflammatory like mometasone, as part of a topical ear medication in our pets. Because yeast overgrowth are so prevalent as well in such problem ears, the anti fungal clotrimazole is also often needed. And as I mention above, where many dogs have mixed populations of bacterial overgrowth in inflamed ears, including frustrating bacteria like pseudomonas, I find it also important to include the wonderful topical antibiotic gentamycin in such a combination product. It is because of this wonderful trio of main ingredients that make mometamax such an indispensable product to general veterinary practice, as well as make it my first line of prescription topical antimicrobial medicines that I will reach for, before doing extensive and expensive tests on inflamed/infected ears. I find the vast majority of ear infections will respond to a 10-21 day course of this medicine, often making these additional tests un necessary. Clients should also know that most, if not all of the prescription topical antimicrobials currently on the veterinary market are combination products like this, but none have the spectrum of coverage that mometamax has. When used with a wonderful ear cleaning agent first like 1800petmeds ear cleansing solution, pet suffering from these painful ear conditions is often quickly relieved. There are very few disadvantages to using this product. On rare occasions pets can have allergic reactions particularly to the topical gentacin in this product where hearing loss can occur temporarily or even more rare permanently. . However this is EXTREMELY rare in my experience, and one must also keep in mind that there can be very rare reactions with any medication whether prescription conventional drugs or natural ones. It is always critical to make sure your veterinarian has evaluated the ear drum(known as the tympanic membrane) before prescribing this product, as a ruptured ear drum can make pets more prone to topical or less common systemic reactions. Unless there is a ruptured ear drum, or the product is used for months at a time, I dont find systemic reactions to the rest of the body much of a problem in my years of using this product. Of course if the ear problem persists or relapses, a full medical workup for underlying or complicating factors should be done by your veterinarian, including an allergy workup, thyroid testing and/or culture or evaluation of the ear discharge under the microscope, in addition to possibly sedation of your pet and ear flushing and x rays of the skull to evaluate the middle/inner ears to evaluate whether surgical drainage might be helpful. I highly recommend and often prescribe mometamax as a first line drug of choice for many ear infections/inflammations. My overall rating of this product is an enthusiastic 5. Its ease of use is a 5 as well.

This product is one of the best on the market. I have a black lab that has had ear problems since she was a pup. Drug after drug, test after test, steroid after steroid,(over $3,000 worth) finally this product was introduced to me by a Gun Dog Trainer who deals with infected labs ears all the time and I will tell you that after a week of treatment my dogs ears cleared right up. With her allergies and her constant need to find water and swim she gets ear infections 3-6 times a year and after cleaning and use of this product infections are gone. I would personally recommend this product to any one who has ear infection issues with there dog. Do not read the reviews that this product can make your dog deaf these are people who don’t know how to talk to there vet or even read the drug information provide in the box. It has been said that Gentamycin, the antibiotic in Mometamax, can cause temporary deafness. Temporary is the key word here. Some dogs have a genetic susceptibility to ototoxicity from Gentamycin. With the withdrawal of the antibiotic, the situation will reverse. This is caused by inflammation in the cochlea. This is like any other drug on the market there are so adverse side effects to few but not the vast majority so as always make sure you consult with your vet before you use any medication on your pets. Would you take high blood pressure medication with out asking your Dr ? In the end this has been a life save for my dog and myself and with out this product there would be a never ending battle to get rid of my dogs infected ears. Mometamx is a great product and if your dog has infected but with anything ask your vet.

I am VERY happy with all the products I got. I was skeptical because I had never heard of the company before. They're honestly better than anything else I've ever bought. I'm definitely going to order again.

I clean my cocker's ears every 7 to 10 days with ear wash and use the non-alcohol canine ear wipes a couple of times a week for maintenance but every few months she'll get stinky, yeasty ears. My vet has prescribed several different treatments but none have worked as well as the Surolan drops. On day 3 she stopped scratching and rubbing them and by day 4 the smell was completely gone. After the 7 day treatment was completed I cleaned them out really good and to my surprise there was very little discharge. Note – Please use 2x/day for 7-full days…don't stop the treatment when there's improvement.
