Best Dog Beds For Aggressive Chewers (Jan 2023 Update)

My two dogs, who are very particular about laying on blankets and pillows, both gravitated to this bed as soon as I put it out for them. They love the combination of the orthopedic bed with the soft and fuzzy plush covering on it and will stay there for hours, when they used to only curl up on the couch with a blanket with a human. Their immediate satisfaction with the bed was a very pleasant surprise and I cannot stress enough how picky my dogs are about where/what they lay on and how much they love this bed. I ordered this after my 60lb Golden girl refused to leave my sister’s Golden’s bed over the holidays. My sister told me where she got it and I ordered my girl one immediately! It is a nice thick bed with a very soft cover. I got the beige/cream color, which has a little bit more yellow tinge to it than I’d like, but it still matches our home decor & her hair color the best out of the options. I got the Jumbo size which gives her plenty of room to sprawl out when she wants. I love that it has a little height on the sides for when she wants her head elevated. I haven’t needed to wash it, but the cover does come off, so I know it’s an option (but can’t attest to how well it holds up to a wash).CSally9

I bought this for my lab-ish dog who is getting up there in years and isn't as comfortable on the floor. She LOVES it! It is big enough that she can sleep in a ball or stretch all the way out. The memory foam in the bottom takes 24 hours to expand before it goes in the bed. it is so thick and high quality. My dog likes to lay her head on things when she sleeps, so the bolster around the edges is really handy. My smaller dogs like to share it. I am really pleased with the bed, so are the dogs!Kaitlyn

Very thick padding on bottom of bed. It is actually several inches thick. Even with me sitting in it, I can't feel the floor. I think this would be great for older dogs due to the thick padding on base. The padding comes separate from the bed and when you unroll it, it increases in size. To assemble it, you just zip it in the bottom. The bottom base is rectangular and covers the whole entire bed at the bottom so no part of your dog is ever touching the hard ground. The bed is surrounded by thick bolsters and pretty flexible that the sides will move out if you dog wants to curl up or if they touch against the sides. My dog likes to use the side cushions as a head rest. I got the medium size for my dog who is a ~33lbs Shiba Inu. He's pretty big for his breed but it fits him perfectly when he decides to roll up in it and also he likes sleeping in it with his head up. Overall, its a great dog bed for a dog that likes to be snugged up and I think would be very supportive if your dog had hip/joint issues. I can see my dog using this a lot in the winter months and as he gets older.Autumn

My dog loves this orthopedic bed! We've tried a lot of different beds, but he loves the extra big cushions on this one. My dog is small (about 8 pounds), but I opted for this Medium size for him to be able to stretch out when laying on his side. It feels really high-quality, but still lightweight enough to move around the house. My dog likes to lounge in it during the day, but also snuggles up in it at night! I would highly recommend this for any small to medium sized dog who either likes to curl up against cushions for a safe feeling, or ones that like to rest their head on top of pillows.Victoria

One of my great danes is 7 1/2. He threw out his poor old back a day before I ordered this bed it was absolutely awful to see him hurt so bad. It was his old bed. I ordered this after his vet appointment and I was relieved to see big barker shipped it the same day, the Friday before memorial day. Memorial weekend passed and we got it on Tuesday. I also want to mention that I appreciate a product made in the US, I buy what I can American made. He laid on it for a few days and then quit and then I realized it was because it didn't smell like his stinky old blankets that he enjoys so much, so after I put his favorite smelly blanket on the bed he took to it immediately. We got the XL with 1 side that has a pillow. He hasn't seemed to care about the pillow much so he avoids it. Only one dane can fit on the bed but he is a big beefy euro dane. I absolutely plan on ordering again for our 2nd great dane but getting the flat XL version, maybe swapping them out for the boys. Reggie my injured dane was hand raised by me with love, he was a rescue that I fostered at 2 weeks and we fell in love with him so we were fortunate to be able to adopt him. I used to kangaroo him because he was so small and ill he couldnt retain his own body temp. So safe to say I love my dogs like they're my own children. Very glad I decided to give it a shot. It was expensive but so is an emergency vet appointment with a hurt back. Well worth the money if it makes his final years earthside comfortable.Jessi

It's been 3 years since I first experienced a Big Barker that was generously donated to a special needs dog at the rescue where I work in Missouri. 18 mo. later we bought one for our 80# Akita/Shepherd Knarly after I saw how that donated bed stood up to the wear and tear of daily shelter use. That was 18 mo ago. We lost him in February to what looked like cancer, but it was a fast end to a big life full of adventure. He loved this thing. I love this thing. It kept me from waking up every 40 minutes when he got uncomfortable crammed onto our queen sized memory foam mattress (we're not small people either) and hopped stiffly down to the carpet, then got back up with us a little while later. I miss the big, comfortable sigh he'd give us every night once his chin hit the pillow. And he slept HARD, with his bad leg hanging off the side. I miss our dog. The bed's still going strong under our 60# pit mix, though. He likes to hang his rear end off, elbows on the bed, and stretch his back legs out with his toes all spread out, then belly crawl the rest of the way onto it, draped over the middle of it. Pitties are weird. At least mine's weird and comfy! I think, nostalgia aside, what's impressed me the most is that there's NO WEAR to this bed, the foam *or* the cover. Other than the seasonal shedding fur right now, it looks like it did the day I took it out of the box. I can't find human products that stand up to the beating our dogs give things, so I feel like I've gotten my money's worth out of this bed already. Knowing it's designed for 10 years of use just means I've invested in all of my dogs' health for a good while longer. I'm here today getting a Lg Sleek for our Rottie mix's crate. I’ve been buying beds for my big old man for a long time. He’s about 100lbs, and he’s 14 years old. Now he’s hurt and doesn’t walk well, so he spends the majority of his time in bed, and it’s even more important to have a good bed. To get a halfway decent bed, it’s usually about $150+, and I’m still disappointed. The memory foam is thin or goes flat. Some beds actually have thick foam, but they’re not memory foam, and they’re too dense and firm. The last bed I bought said that it was 5” thick with dual foam. It seemed nice enough when I sat on it, but exactly a year later, when I laid on it for an hour, my joints were all killing me. I felt almost like I had been lying on the floor. Every review said that this was hands down the best bed. I was really looking for something more in my budget, but I couldn’t find anything even half as good as this one, and I had just paid $180 for the other one, and had to replace it after a year! If I had bought this one a year ago, my pup would be happier, and I wouldn’t be buying another, so it’s a sound investment. I didn’t really have the money for it right now, and didn’t want my dog to have to wait for a new bed, but then I read that they offer Affirm, which acts like a payment plan! So I could have the bed now! I was sold. OMG, I’m so glad I bought it. This bed says it’s 7” thick. The old bed said 5”, but the Big Barker is at least twice as thick as the old one! I don’t know if the Big Barker measurements are modest, or if the other bed’s were inflated, or if that’s how flat it went over the year or what, but the Big Barker immediately exceeded my expectations. It’s super comfy – the right amount of support and squish. My dog is happy. It’s the best quality bed I’ve ever bought. If you’re thinking about it, just do it. This thing is going to last. Two things I would change, though. One, I wish the covers were available in green. My dog has become incontinent, so I wish that the outside cover was waterproof. I know they sell a waterproof membrane for the inside, which is good. I wish there was an option for a super tough, durable, waterproof cover. One of the beds I had before had that, and rather than having to constantly remove the cover, wash, and replace it, I could leave the whole cover on, and soap/hose it down really quick. It was also chew resistant (not a problem in my house, but sure kills two birds with one stone). Anyway, it’s fine, I wrapped the bed including the cover in a 6-sided waterproof encasement, and I have multiple waterproof blankets, so I layer one of those on the bed, and then put down a couple of washable waterproof pads too, so it’s protected. As such, his photos don’t show off the bed as well as they could.blackviolet

This large doggie orthopedic sofa bed is the best bed I've bought for my boxer. He loves this bed. The first night of sleeping on this bed was the best night for me…why…because He didn't wake me up until 9am instead of 7:30 am to go out to potty. I believe he had a more comfortable sleep, also because he appeared to have more engery…jumping around like a Jack rabbit, circling around me wagging his tail as to say thankyou. He hasn't slept in his crate since sleeping on his new bed. I put his favorite blanket over it and now its not pulled all over the floor. Best bed for my buddy ever.Jazzy

The "cooling" side of the mattress is a lie. I know how cooling mattresses looks like and yours just have the color but not a cooling layer. My dog is very hot in his new bed during hot days and sleeps on the floor. Therefore, I feel cheated for having paid almost $50 for this bed. Also, the cover material is synthetic which naturally created heat and on top of a synthetic sponge creates a really too hot environment for my dog. The material is slippery so my elderly dog can hardly get up. The only reason I gave two stars is that the shape and height are good. Still, sizes you provide are inadequate and not a reflection of dog needs which is strange when Furheaven is in this business. My Yorki is a normal size. Yet, when I bought small which you recommend according to the size and weight chart as well as the sleeping area measurements you provided,he can fit well provided he is all the time in something like a fetus position and he doesn't move much. He cannot stretch or lie down in such a way so as to have at least an inch of space between himself and the sides of the bed. Dogs sometimes sleep in a stretched position and do need some extra space. Dogs also move during the sleep, swirl around, wiggle. So I had to get him a medium size which is really too big for him and the space where we keep it in our apartment but I am happy he has some extra space. Humans don't sleep in beds which are exactly their size. Standard beds even if a twin size have some extra space on all four sides because nobody stays in one position during the night. Why would it be any different for dogs especially when it's known that they sleep most of the time. I don't get it.Zenja B.

We absolutely LOVE this bed!!! It is extremely well made with separate zippered compartments for the bolster and bed padding. This makes it very easy to wash the cover and not the padding. I highly recommend the "Convoluted Orthopedic Foam" Mattress. As we live in California where the weather is warmer, the "Quilted" Cover material has been perfect all year round. This is actually our second bed that we bought. The first bed we bought for our an older dog who was starting to get arthritis and have back issues. We felt this bed greatly reduced his symptoms and made his last years much more comfortable. At a certain point we ordered a replacement cover for the first bed. It was still in such great condition when he passed that we could not get rid of it. Our new puppy found the bed and claimed it as her own. We decided to get a new cover for her along with another bed, so she had one in each room. We got the Medium size originally for a 35 LB older dog. The puppy is currently 20LB, but will probably be 35-40 LB as an adult. This has provided plenty of room for both dogs.Joan B.

Our dog went through a phase of trying to come into our bed almost every hour during the night but since we got the snoozer, he has been staying there till morning again! It takes a little persuasion to get him in there but once he’s in and cosy, he settles in! He’s a small Jack Russell sized dog (8kg) so we went for the Large based on the reviews of the small being quite small – he likes to sprawl! It works but would have opted for a Medium size if there was the option as it does take up a lot of space… worth it for a good nights sleep though! I have the non orthopaedic bed which has a thicker mattress , I was disappointed with the mattress of the more expensive orthopaedic bed so emailed Snoozer to return the item with the intention of reordering . I have returned the bed which costs £14 as it is a stipulation of snoozer to send it via recorded mail, I’ve emailed them on two separate occasions to ask if they have received the bed and about my refund but no response. However I am getting emails frequently to leave a review!? I would like a refund in a much better customer centred way as these products are lovely but expensive and the customer care doesn’t seem to reflect the company imagesarah T

This is the second Cozy Cave I have purchased, the original is 4 years old now and still as good as new but I have 2 chihuahuas who both love it and, although they can both fit in it, my little girl isn’t fond of sharing! Now they have one each. I have purchased other brands of snuggle beds which get some use but the Cosy Cave is the favourite, used on a daily basis. I have washed the original cover several times over the last 4 years and it is still in excellent condition. Would happily recommend the Cosy Cave 100%Vikki T

The Fur Haven pet bed is better than I imagined. The cover is not the natty fleece that traps pet hair most similar beds are constructed of. The Fur Haven bed has a soft silky feel covering, is stuffed just soft enough and surprisingly lightweight, but NOT flimsy. I’m confident this will wash up nicely when the time comes. The price point is reasonable. I have owned dogs for decades – tried every pet bed possible (except the $200 plus beds). I mistakenly purchased 2. But actually glad I did. The bed fits my 10 lb Papillon perfectly. I’ll watch for a sale and purchase a large and medium for the rest of the pack. Happy hound.Bonnie

I got one of these beds (36” XL) for my pup who has separation anxiety. When she isn’t sleeping in bed with me, she is snuggled into her faux fur bed. I brought it to my parent’s place when I had a trip and, surprisingly to all of us, my dad’s 10 yr old Anatolian Shepard Mix (who was born in a cave in Afghanistan) fell in love with it. This dog does not like any type of comfort. Beds, toys, treats… she has never shown any interest in anything my dad has given her. When I returned from my trip the first thing I was asked is where I got it. Ever since Bella got her own fur donut bed, she seems to be actually sleeping better and less anxious… about everything. This has to be the best dog bed I have ever purchased. My dog plays toss with it. My baby also hides his toys and bones in it and He sleeps in it. It is super soft and furry. I do not recommend washing no matter ehat the instructions state but spot clean it as needed. I have never seen a pet bed washed that comes out like it went in. I cannot say anything negative about this pet bed except I need more for the cats. This particular size pet bed runs for around $35. The bottom is not very cushy but decent. We have a 55-60 lb dog and the 30×30 is way too big to be comfy but the next size smaller was cramped. I thought the fluffy fabric would be thicker but it is a bit thin for my taste. It does seem to be well constructed though. Do not stick this size in a large home dryer as it is too big and the heat will matte the fluffy strands (almost like melting) from the heat because it cannot move around enough. Kind of a bummer because it doesn't look nice on one of the sides.WallyGBWI

My dog loves her new bed! We can’t hardly get her off of it. However, she had an accident a few days ago and while the cover was easy to wash, the foam on the inside was not. It says not to submerge it. So I would assume “surface clean with a damp cloth” but that’s not really doing the trick…Kaitlyn

Our 8 month old lab mix chewed o hole in the top and ate some stuffing. She has had $1,500 in vet bills already and a scheduled upper endoscopy for another $2,500 to find why she has trouble breathing through her nose ever since the incident. Love, love, LOVE this bed! My 70 lb lab Lilah loves to stretch out on it and drift into a blissful slumber! She is a more "mature" 12 year old and this is the only bed that's supportive and comfortable enough for her sometimes achy bones. I highly recommend this bed.Katie

Bought two of these beds for our beagles to sleep in our RV. Quality is great, and dogs have plenty of room in them to move around, stretch out, and get comfortable. (Bought size medium). Fabric seems to be very durable and will hopefully clean well when needed. Only complaint is the noise the fabric or material makes when the dogs move around. (Kind of loud and scratchy). Not a big deal during the day, but hopefully not too much noise at night when we want to sleep – since we are all in the RV together! May end up having to throw a soft blanket on top of bed to not hear the dogs claws scratching the fabric at night? Overall I’m very happy with my purchase. Even though we didn't end up keeping this bed, we had a wonderful experience ordering from (and returning to) K9 Ballistics. We had ordered this and it looked a bit small for my dog. We covered it with a blanket to protect it and he wasn't really able to fit inside comfortably. It was clearly a very high quality bed and no doubt it would have stood up to daily use for years. I hated to return it but it just wasn't a good fit. When we returned it there was an issue with UPS – the K9 ballistics representative was prompt on the chat, sent materials to my email and made sure I had them, and contacted shipping and receiving to ensure the return was received. Awesome bed. Bought this for my older dog (9-1/2) after we got rid of her doggie "bunk bed" because it was getting harder on her arthritis to go up and down the stairs. The orthopedic base sounded like it would be good for her. Although we have a second dog, her son (age 6), he often sleeps on our bed or on the couch so we didn't get one for him. Now, it's kind of like – whoever gets there first gets the bed for the night and the other one sleeps somewhere else. They both seem to like it and will sometimes rest in it during the middle of the day as well. It's very durable and a great quality bed. The bed is cute and sturdy, very well made (it can take my weight l). Looks like a little couch. However it’s not orthopedic. My dog already has a orthopedic memory foam dog bed from Sam’s Club and it’s way more comfortable. This bed feels lumpy and my dog prefers his memory foam mattress to the lumpy one on this dog bed. My only complaint it the mattress which is crap. It would have been perfect with it. I needed something at least 11 inches high at the seat height so my dog could lay on it and see out the window. This is perfect and can be used with or without the backrest. I put a plush throw over the seat to make it softer and save wear and tear on the cushion. I did not want faux leather and was glad there was one that is all cloth. She loves it (so does my cat!) and I definitely recommend this pet chair!Stacie

We’ve had this dog couch now for about 1 year. Our 2 dogs have taken turns using it since it was put together, 1 dog is 38lbs and the other is 50lbs. I love the color and how thick the mattress is and just the fact that it looks like a fancy, modern dog couch at a reasonable price.Ashley

My miniature dachshund would give this bed 5 stars. He seems to settle in immediately when I put him on it (it's a little high so for his 3 inch legs to climb on). I only wish they made these snuggle beds with less of a crease around the inner circle. He will occasionally get his legs stuck in the crease and is unable to pull himself out because his legs sink so far into it.. BUT, I have other Bessie and Barnie beds and appreciate the quality of them all. I chose this one for the fabric and the center cushion seems to be a lot thicker than other off brand of snuggle beds out there.smulhearn

My dogs love these beds! I don't like the thick furry fabric covers because the furry stuff gets stuck in the zipper when taking it off or putting it back on after washing. The shorter fuzzy fabric works best. I would like to see a filler that could be washed as well but until that day – these are the best beds. Bought a Tail wagon for Ted, our recuse dog. Purchased the Pet Bed and Thru axle directly from Burley, and requested expedited shipping to receive it before a planned vacation. I have ordered MANY dog beds in my lifetime but this one is the WORST one of all!! Why? The top "zip in" filler for the "armrest" is impossible to completely insert. I have YET to completely zip it in without nearly losing my breath because of the tugging, pulling, stretching, while TRYING to move the zipper! I thought I was in pretty good shape but putting in this armrest filler role is horrible. I would suggest the manufacturer use LESS filler or something but I would NEVER recommend this dog bed. Researched many dog beds before deciding on this one. We were using a round dog bed without bolsters and when at a friends she wouldn't get out of their bed with bolsters so knew we needed this style. The Memory foam is firm without being rock hard; soft fabric. I have a 65 lb golden retriever and the large (36×28) is perfect. Inside width about 28". We have owed this about a month .. she loved it immediately. Price has increased since we bought it but would still buy it again.murph

I got this to replace an older bed that my older (8 year old) medium sized (25 pound) dog would sleep in at times during the day. Well my senior (12 year old) cat has taken a linking to it as well. The bed is really light and soft, my dog does love using it when she's given the chance (short legs, double coated and won't lay on it if it's warm inside, and cat sometimes steals it when she's not using it in the house). We do keep a small blanket/towel over it just to help keep it clean in case of any small accidents (senior dog) and outside for her when she's on the porch to keep her comfortable. This bed has lots of padding, is very soft and the outside pattern is very nice. The size is perfect for my 30 lbs Min Pin mix to sleep comfortably and stretch her legs. My complaint is that the side bolsters do not stay upright. They kind of flop over and don’t offer much side support. The images kind of make it seem like the sides of the bed stay upright and offer more support than they actually do. Because the sides flop over, my large 75 lb German Shepherd mix can fit in the bed when curled up. The bed is nice and soft, and has held up to my dog’s scratching and making circles before plopping down on the bed. I ended up putting it on a corner of the sofa where it can get support on two sides and helps elevate my medium sized dog so she can comfortably rest her head on the armrest without straining her neck.SoCal Dog Mom

This bed is great! It fits perfectly into the corner and looks nice. I have a blind dog and she was hesitant at first but after a few times sleeping in the bed, it is now her "goto" sleep spot! She goes past her other beds to get to this one. Walls are nice and tall but soft and she can snuggle into the cushion. Have recommended it to quite a few people who have seen it in pics I've posted. We ordered this bed after seeing the raving reviews from a youtube influencer Ryen Lung and his Corgi, Gatsby. We have a corgi mix ourselves and saw how much Gatsby loves the beds he had received. I knew this bed was pricey, BUT so WORTH the price. We have it under our desk. It is VERY soft, and looks like it will be very durable. Bear likes it, but its my 17 month old daughter who loves it best. She hides things in the bed all the time. After doing some research, I noticed some major selling factors for me. These beds are made in the USA and it is a family owned business. I also like the fact we can wash this bed if we have to. We do plan on getting more beds later on once we get a bigger place.Clifton N

Great quality. The shape of this dog bed makes it perfect to put between a sofa and loveseat facing a window and door for great "people watching" for my dogs. They love it, and I don't trip going by the rounded side of it like I do if I place a square dog bed in this particular area for my dogs.Jude
