Exactly what i was after Only ever have had to use it on level 2 and it has shocked my dog maybe twice and she doesn’t really bark much at all anymore. Our new pup now almost 1 1/2 years old, was a barking machine. Hard to control or stop. We got this hoping that would help and it has. Our dog has a LOT of fur and it was hard to get contact but when that issue was resolved we noticed the barking decreased within a day or two. When we took off the collar, there was a tendency for our dog to ramp up again but once it was back on, the excess barking stopped. The dog has now figured out, collar on, no barking. The PetSafe Bark Collar has been a tremendous help with our Australian Shepard who loved to bark at anything and everything from dusk until dawn. Once received we read the instruction manual and did as it said but no matter what we did nothing was working. The collar has some pretty big (1") sensor probes that look not so comfortable on the neck, probably necessary for the deterrent. The on/off is pretty sensitive to get it on, you need a dime or something to turn on/off which is good so when the dog wears it the normal movements won't accidentally turn it off. That being said, it is necessary to move it around to the exact position and confirm green light that it is on. You can't just turn it to the word ON, it may need to be ever so slightly adjusted a fraction one way or the other to make sure it is on. Our particular experience seemed to work well on our dog, it only took a couple of times of it vibrating to startle our dog and get her to realize that it was because she barked. It didn't seem to vibrate on growling only barking and we had it pretty tight and her hair is short. It would not be something you would want to leave on your dog forever because I am sure the probes in the neck are not so comfortable for the dog. Overall my dog has reduced her barking about 90% even without the collar on. If she has a particular barking episode on our lanai we put the collar back on for a while and she figures it out. She does seem pretty sad with it on but she is learning quickly and hopefully it won't be for long. The vibration doesn't seem to hurt her, just startle her and that does the job. I think the results could really vary from dog to dog and maybe the breed tendencies play into it. We still have some light barking which I imagine occurs before the strengthened static but it is completely manageable. I will say after reading the reviews we have lucked out with the battery… It has been in use with an aggressive Barker for a month and still has not needed to be replaced. Our only downside is that the collar is bulky… I take it off when she comes inside. If I do forget to put it on when she goes outside she will bark up a storm again! I bought two Basic Static Bark collars to help alleviate my puggle's and beagle's separation anxiety barking when we are not at home. The collars are fitted properly and in accordance with instructions and the batteries are working, yet BOTH dogs continue to bark. The biggest problem is that both collars tend to move to one side of the dogs' necks, so the dogs are probably not receiving the static correction. The directions state to "REPOSITION THE COLLAR ON THE PET'S NECK EVERY 1 TO 2 HOURS.." Obviously, if we are not home, this is impossible to do. I wasted almost $100 on collars that do not work on either dog. Petsafe customer service recommended that I should purchase the more expensive Deluxe Petsafe Collar. No thanks. I bought this about a week ago after I received a complaint from a neighbor and was given a warning from our HOA for disturbance. When I first got my puppy at 6 months old he would constantly bark. I was told at the store this is not a very good bark training collar, but if I wanted something inexpensive to try it and if it didn’t work I could return it. I was then hesitate that it didn’t work, but still tried it and loved it! Every time he barked you could see the light flash on it. 1 downfall is the collar can be easily rotated around the neck no matter how tight you have it if the scratches at it. It needs to be kept in the front of the dogs neck, and as high up the neck as possible. So you have to keep adjusting it, but I also found it shocks them if they are doing something they aren’t supposed to, and when you yell loudly at them it shocks them as well. So it serves a multipurpose of bark control, and obedience. I only had to use it on my dog for less than a week, and he stopped the constant barking, chewing, and was 100% more obedient! The right choice for my American Standard Bulldogs The regular belt buckle type was wanted as they do not work loose. A bit heavy however this is required to accept the 9 volt battery I have 3 all bought at the same time All do not "turn on with tester used " until #2 setting. 0 does not register nor does #1 However #2 does not seem to zippy. I had to return this because it was very bulky and the collar was made from a heavy plastic and that made it very hard to put on and take back off my dog. I've had this collar for about 6 months. I have two Bichons and they bark at everything that moves. I'm buying a second one now. I've read all the reviews and find some of then misleading or not enough information provided to base a purchase on… for a first time buyer. FIRST, the collar has to be adjusted to fit the dog snug. I does not have to choke them but it does NOT need to move freely if you try to move it. Some of the reviews say it moves from side to side… it should not do that and it won't work if it does. SECOND, test the collar! Not on you 😉 … but install the batteries and scrape the contact points across a tile floor or rough surface to see if it works. If it beeps with the static, then you're ready to start testing it on the dog. A little shock is not going to kill them but a barking dog will cause my neighbors to become homicidal. It's a win win! I only use the collar when we go on walks, have the front door open and they can see everything. They learn so fast! When I put them in the crates, I'll lay the collar in front of the crate so they can see it and it stops the excessive whining at night for my "pit wannabes". Went through two of these things. Different problems with each one. With the first one, the knob to control the intensity level came off after two weeks, so you didn't know if it was on, off, in test mode or at what intensity. Exchanged it for another one. The new one was just as junky. After three weeks, the bark control mechanism started falling apart. The mechanism was literally coming apart at the seams and to top it off, the knob came off again. This is a poorly made product…save your money!!! I should note that the collar was only used in the evenings to keep my dog from barking all night long.( The cats like to rub on her kennel and tease her when she is in there for the night) It was never on her during the day or when she was outside.BobRoberts
The Pet Safe Deluxe Bark Control is an excellent option to prevent your dog from barking. It is easy to use. Just put it on and adjust it to the dog´s neck size. Aditionally you have to be sure that battery is oriented acording to the instructions to work propertly. On the other hand, if your dog is very active or very smart, you have to check sometimes that collar is in place. I would suggest to make something to prevent movement. Therefore the battery has good life use in this collar, I´ve been using it for almost 2 months, and I haven´t had to replace it yet. I'll first start by saying I never do reviews. However I was at my wits end with our nine month old chiweenie. I thought my husband was going to kill me and the dog…and I was praying my neighbors did not have guns because this little 8 pound cutie barked like a 100 lb squealing pig at anything and everything! Previous to this device I tried the citronella collar and the ultrasonic remote. Neither phased her. I will say on day one I thought this thing was a piece of junk. I called pet safe and learned that the collar needs to be tightly fitted on the dogs neck or it will not work. After adjusting the collar and I was still on the phone with the representative my Daisy girl went outside and I witnessed it working immediately. We still have some light barking which I imagine occurs before the strengthened static but it is completely manageable. I will say after reading the reviews we have lucked out with the battery… It has been in use with an aggressive Barker for a month and still has not needed to be replaced. Our only downside is that the collar is bulky… I take it off when she comes inside. If I do forget to put it on when she goes outside she will bark up a storm again! I bought two Basic Static Bark collars to help alleviate my puggle's and beagle's separation anxiety barking when we are not at home. The collars are fitted properly and in accordance with instructions and the batteries are working, yet BOTH dogs continue to bark. The biggest problem is that both collars tend to move to one side of the dogs' necks, so the dogs are probably not receiving the static correction. The directions state to "REPOSITION THE COLLAR ON THE PET'S NECK EVERY 1 TO 2 HOURS.." Obviously, if we are not home, this is impossible to do. I wasted almost $100 on collars that do not work on either dog. Petsafe customer service recommended that I should purchase the more expensive Deluxe Petsafe Collar. No thanks. I bought this about a week ago after I received a complaint from a neighbor and was given a warning from our HOA for disturbance. We had just moved in about a month ago and didnt want to make enemies. My dog barks at everything. From shadows, birds to airplanes. I decided to give this a try. These collars work great with a little bit of time and training. After a year of use, with supervision, I can now take my dogs (Basenji & G.Shep) outside on our 3 acres without the collars because they have now learned the boundaries. My favorite feature of these collars is the nightlight and the beep function. The nightlight is perfect for going out at night and keeping my eyes on where each dog is located. The beep function is fantastic, my dogs have learned the beep means to turn around and come back. During training I used the shock function (level 8 & I did test the level of intensity on my own leg) only a handful of times when absolutely necessary and it's never used now. Both dogs now respond to the beep and if they're chasing a deer they'll stop to the vibrate function. The two CONS I have with these collars are the rubber covers for the progs come off so easily when the dogs are wrestling and get lost constantly. The other con is that I've had the collars close to a year now and the rechargeable batteries within the device are dying. The collars are on charge constantly now so that they are charged up for when they are needed. The collar dies within about 8 hours before it needs a charge even if it's turned off. Whereas when I first got them the charge lasted about a week. This is after treating them correctly, turning off when not in use and only charging when needed.Elizabeth R.
I have used this collar for 2-3 years now, I went with it as it is one of the highest rated collars when researched. I do run into technical difficulties as you do with anything else and have had no problem with having them replaced. I favorite part is the range and diverse control settings. When my dogs are out of the yard, I just hit the sound button and they know they have went to far and to get back. They come usually immediately. My least favorite part is the product does not seem to last very long.. in the two to three years I’ve used this, I have had to get a few replaced and all with different problems. I recently bought a brand new set of two, and I am very happy. I just have a problem with one of them flashing the green light constantly while the device is on and the battery life on that specific collar does not last. I love how the vibration & shock can be set from 0-99. The sound tones are also pitched slightly different for each collar & has the option to add a third collar. I’ve had this for months & the battery in the remote lasts extremely long. I think I’ve only charged it once. The collars last days as well. The only thing I wish was easier is the ability to switch over from each channel. When you switch from shock to vibrate, the first click is to switch over, then the second click actually vibrates the collar (& vice versa). When switching over to the other channel, you have to follow the same procedure. Which is fine for normal circumstances. But, when it’s an emergent situation, that extra time it takes to shock/ vibrate the other collar can make a huge difference & lead to a struggle in a stressful situation.Erin
