I want to add before I start my review that I no longer use Burt’s Bees products because I wanted something stronger for my dogs. I also originally bought this product with the intention of using it for one of my dog’s dry skin. With that being said I have a miniature poodle with severe allergies that caused him to scratch at himself until he was bleeding and scratched off the skin in multiple location on his body. He is now medicated and is a lot better with the correct products. This product did help with his allergies minimally but did help his over all coat a lot. His coat was soft and shiny after using the product and after a few weeks his dry skin that was caused by a previous product was much better. My avid little mouser cat caught herself a little prize just a few days before a month-prior planned trip my husband and i were unavoidably about to go to. Apparently that mouse had bitten her back in the process, right on her tender little lip cleft! Before we knew it, that bite had gotten infected so bad she became lethargic, her face swollen an angry shade of red, she could not eat or even drink on her own and she could not even close her mouth and was drooling on herself. Because of the covid situation and proximity of timing to our trip to see family, there was no way to get her to a vet in time before we had to leave in 3-4 days. Using this for hot spots on my canine, this stuff does work but it sometimes can take up to 2 8oz. Bottles to heal the area's treated. Not sure if it's the strength of medicine or just those stubborn spots. I caught the spots early on and started treating them immediately and have been treating them for a month now and they are getting better but slowly, these things are stubborn. I can say that absolutely nothing else I tried worked. Believe it or not, I read online the other day that rubbing Pepto Bismol on hot spots actually works, you heard right, Pepto Bismol. This is a very good company and they have good products for humans and pets. My dog, unfortunately, happens to have very dry sensitive itchy skin. Especially during flea season. Just one flea bite and it's off to the races. She has severe "flea bites venom" allergy. So flea season I have to be hyper vigilant with everything from yard, home, pet flea and tick treatment, and grooming. I purchased this one day because I know that oatmeal is very soothing to itchy dry skin. I have used regular oatmeal as a paste and as a bath/rinse with very good results. This shampoo smells good, it was a little higher priced but I was OK as long as the results were equal to the price point. Sadly, I was not impressed. In this case it was the name brand reputation was bigger than the results. while it did clean her fur thoroughly and nicely , she was scratching a lot within the first few hours after her bath. And she was properly rinsed. I spend triple the time rinsing.  I put her back in the shower and rinsed her with the homemade oatmeal bath that I use. Regular old-school oatmeal, mixed with water, and just use it as a soak/rinse. I also put in a few drops of high-quality Teatree oil, the mother of apple cider vinegar, and a cup of chamomile tea. that's my homemade treatment for itchy sensitive skin this shampoo, for the price, did not meet my expectations. I have gotten similar if not better results from shampoos that were 1 to 5 dollars a bottle. Keep in mind this is just my opinion and my results on my dog. This is a great natural dog shampoo that i use on my dog regularly. I used to use a lot of product, like a quarter of the bottle every time I bathed my fur baby. I was told from my groomers to create a foam with some water and soap in a bottle and it makes the product lather better and uses so much less! My fur baby suffers from itchy skin and this shampoo seems to temporarily relieve that! I enjoy using this on my dog! This shampoo did not disappoint and I am happy with the results Im getting. I also like that Burt Bees doesn't have toxic chemicals in they're products which is what lead me to this purchase. I can often find it at Marshalls for a good price. Unfortunately I came across a point in my life where I couldn't have my shihtzu maltese mix for a short amount of time (30-45 days). So a family member of mine agreed to care for him while I was gone. He also has a pure German rotweiler and a boxer pit mix. One of the happiest days I should have had quickly turned terrible. Ever since I adopted my little Angel a few months ago, I've wanted to get rid of her overly flaky coat and large amount of shedding. My vet first prescribed the standard fatty acid capsules. They were too large to administer by themselves and with pill pockets. Squeezing the liquid into Angel's wet food was out of the question as well, as she is EXTREMELY picky when it comes to supplementing her food with vitamins, medicines, etc. and refused to touch her dinner if it had the liquid in it. Exasperated, I purchased Ark Naturals Royal Coat and crossed my fingers, hoping she wouldn't reject it. Success! Angel actually seems to like her wet food even more with Royal Coat mixed in it. Bought this from Petco on 02182022. Sprayed it on two items our mini dachshund pup has been attacking. The attacks stopped immediately. It has no smell when wet or when dry. One warning: wear rubber gloves when applying! My granddaughter and I both got it on our hands and despite several hand washings, we both got yucked at supper time. Also, spray the items outdoors or in the garage, away from anything that someone might touch. One of the pup's Kong squeaker balls caught some of the overspray. Now she is avoiding ALL her toy balls. Also, while wearing your gloves, wipe off anything that might come in contact with dogs or humans. We sprayed a cheap plastic basket our grandkids were using to store small toys. Even though we dried the basket, the toys still picked up some yuck. The kids hands then got contaminated. And then all kinds of things got yucky. My pet Koko is a 4 year old Cooker S and he has certain spots on his body that will itch until the fur is gone and the skin is broken. The hydrocortisone didn't seem to be doing enough. My 4 year old golden retriever has been suffering since she was a tiny puppy. She came inside one day after playing in the back yard and her left eye was huge. This has done wonders for my dog. She suffers from chronic dry eye which has left her with very limited vision in both eyes. We tried everything from expensive prescriptions to other over the counter drops. Nothing really helped until this. I use it in conjunction with the MicrocynAH eye and ear wash, putting 2-3 drops of it in each eye twice a day followed by the gel. You must be careful with the gel because it will come out rather fast if you don’t squeeze the bottle gently. I put one drop in each eye twice a day and I've seen a marked difference in the amount of gunk her eyes secrete. My vet says the less the secretions, the better. Her eyes have hardly any at all after using this product for over a month. I recommend this for anyone whose pet has chronic dry eye.RJ

My dog went a few days with excessive "goop" from his eyes. Since my dog hasn't had a history with this, and doesn't seem to have seasonal allergies, the vet suggested an antimicrobial for the eye irritation and I went with this ophthalmic gel based on the luck I've had with other Vetericyn products in the past. I started with a tiny drop on the corner of my dog's eye to be sure he wouldn't have any reaction to it. Later that day, I went ahead and applied a few drops in each of his eyes. I applied the gel two times a day for three days in a row and by the fourth day his eyes had stopped having discharge. It is almost like my dog knew the drops would make him feel better as he kept his head very still when I applied the gel to his eyes. The shape of the dispenser where you squeeze the product out of makes it very easy to apply the gel to their eyes. While it is a "gel," it comes out of the dispenser fairly quickly which I find allows for an accurate application. The gel-like substance is great to confirm that you got the gel where you want it to go. Went out one morning and caught a glimpse of what looked like a little scratch on my horses eye. Upon inspection the eye itself was untouched but the eyelid was cut about an inch long from the back corner towards the front. I cleaned it and figured I would just leave it alone. The next morning it was itchy and irritating her and REALLY swollen. I cleaned her up, applied the Vetericyn ophthalmolic gel, and put a patch over her eye to keep her from rubbing it and repeated this 4 times that day and removed the patch that evening to let it air. By the next morning all the swelling had completely subsided and it was no longer irritating her! So I found this after finding out my schnauzer had allergies and had already developed skin irritation and been to the vet a few times. With that being said, I wanted a shampoo that would be soothing for him after fully understanding what he was going through. His Vet recommended a medicated shampoo that smelled terrible and burned my eyes when I did smell it so I decided to go with a brand that I like, and was not disappointed. I have this in my house every spring, it doesn't smell very strong but I just spritz my dog with an oatmeal chamomile tea water serum I make at home. I will always have a bottle of Banixx in my house now. I have a Great Dane mix that has severe skin sensitivities.
