Avalanche Dog Harness Instructions For Sale (2024 Update)

I have a Mini Australian Shepherd puppy, and this harness is so good!! The way the leash attachment “floats” along the dorsal strap makes it work really well no matter where he is in relation to me (front/back/side), and it had really helped him learn not to pull, because unlike a collar it’s not actually unsafe for him to test his limits (so I dont have to try and keep him from doing it, just address when it happens). I wish the metal buckle version came in blue!!clausti

Purchased and selected size last year based on Kurgo size chart recommendation. Harness was way to large, at the smallest setting on our 56# Aussie. Also hooks/ slides on back of harness twist and turn, don't stay in place.. The adjustment slides don't stay in place in the front and the harness , after one pull is huge again. Quality materials but poor execution of design. Very expensive for what you get. And CS rep hanging up when I called spoke volumes. mes.Janesdog

The medium Kurgo harness fits my 23 pound dog well. The harness itself is incredibly sturdy – I was actually surprised by how “heavy” it is. The blue color is nice and the reflective material is an added bonus. The harness slips on over the dog’s head then buckles closed on each side. So far, it has been very easy and fast to put it on and take it off my dog. The leash clips are positioned in such a way (middle of back) that makes it easy to walk the dog without her choking herself (a problem we have with our old harness) from pulling. The harness is a bit stiff, however, so it’s not good for car rides where dog needs to lie down for long periods. The only concern we have is the loops to clip the leash to don’t seem as sturdy as the rest of the harness. The are a thinner aluminum that bends easily. Overall, I am impressed with this harness and recommend it.Ndanip

I love Kurgo products and think they are great quality, but was disappointed in this harness. If you have a barrel chested dog and want to attach a leash to the front D ring (my pup is a puller, so that was the whole reason we bought this), I wouldn't recommend this harness. I have a 14 month old standard poodle (45 lbs) and we bought a medium as she fit smack dab in the middle of those measurements. Unfortunately, the harness just doesn't fit deep-chested dogs. The neck opening is weirdly large and can't be tightened very much so after adjusting the harness to fit her, the front D ring ended up right between her front legs. We couldn't attach a leash to the front ring because she would stumble over it while we walked. Seems like Kurgo could fix this pretty easily by just moving the front D ring higher to be closer to the neck opening, but unfortunately not easy to fix/solve the issue at home. We'll be donating this as it unfortunately doesn't work for us.torvinn

My boyfriend has the Nylon Reflective Journey Air Dog harness (M), which looks like this harness mixed with the Tru-fit harness kind of. I have this Journey Air Dog harness (M) for my GSD/husky mix. We have a couple of issues with this specific model of the Journey harness. She has an athletic build with a pretty deep chest that is also narrow as heck, and due to the longer padding on the top of the chest piece, I'm unable to adjust it enough so that it fits her well. It renders the front D-ring useless, as the harness will pull to the side of her body loosely. Unfortunately, sizing down would mean that it would not be able to fit around the deepest part of her ribcage. The other issue I have with this harness is that I'm nervous it chaffs the back of her armpit area. It's pretty snug up against the backs of her legs–maybe even too snug. I would size up, but then that would exacerbate the issue with the front. I'm almost certain it's an unpleasant experience for her as she runs away when I so much as pick up the harness. I brought up the fact that my boyfriend has this type of harness (but a different/earlier model) because I am able to adjust that one well to my dog. None of the issues present in my harness are present in the other one, likely because of the smaller chest padding. I would go to the Tru-Fit harness for my pup, but we go hiking a bunch, and the handle on the back is a must-have. What is probably the most upsetting is that I cannot find this other model of harness in stock and in the size we need anywhere as of today. I simply cannot recommend this harness if your pup has a narrow chest.2dogs1cat

Seems like good construction. I liked the pads on top to prevent pinching, but overall, it is still the same standard harness you can get everywhere. Unfortunately, I am still on the hunt for a good harness to use for running with my dog. The harness rubbed under his armpits and rubbed them raw. The look of the harness is great however the material cannot stand up to chewing which is not covered under warranty. I bought one yesterday and this morning I left to get breakfast and when I got back 20 minutes later he had chewed through one of the straps and had taken a chuck out of the nylon canvas chest piece. Very disappointed in the product and was hoping it was made better and would hold up for years like their jackets have.Brady

Rugged ,tough , durable harness . Works like it should . It takes a little time to get a proper adjustment , unless your dog is growing it's a one time thing . We like it better than other harnesses we have . I find it laughable that people would give a poor review because their dog chewed on it . That's on the owner and their poor dog . We have a labrador that's around 60lbs. LIfting him is difficult and he's skidish about being picked up on top of it. The harness is great for helping him up in the car. It seems very comfortable as he happily wore it around the house acting like he didn't even have it on. I'm actually looking forward to using it for the next trip to the vet because the handles seem like they would be great for holding him on the table as well. With him being a male dog I did appreciate that it had a built in shield for comfort to protect him while lifting. The harness was super easy to put on and fairly easy to adjust to the correct size as well. I'd highly recommend this for anyone with a dog that needs assistance being lifted or to even have this harness on hand just incase you need it.BusyMom

My border collie is 10 years old and suffers from hip issues; primarily when going up steps. In the past I've tried to help him by lifting his rear but he feels fearful when I do this. Now that I'm using the support harness, he loves my help! There's something about the harness that helps my dog to feel safely supported. When I first opened the box and pulled the harness out, it looked like a mess but the paper included detailed instructions for putting it on. I highly recommend this harness!Atina

I highly recommend this harness. I have an older 52 pound Belgian Shepard w/arthritis in her rear knee and spine. This harness is easy to put on, in my opinion, and she doesn't seem to mind the straps around her rear legs at all. I only use this for walks and when her rear legs have difficulty and she falls back I can easily grab the rear handle and hold her up, pull her up etc. This is extremely helpful going up stairs too. She is very excited about putting it on.RanaS

Our dog Buddy is over 100 pounds and his rear legs have betrayed him. We were using a towel to help him up but its not as easy as it sounds. The handle on the carelift allows for an easier lift and allows me to stabilize his wobbling while walking. Buddy likes it as wellfmcnulty

This item works great once you get it on and sized to the dog. I am having a little difficulty with getting the harness on myself because I am having to re-size the harness every time and wish it was a little easier to adjust the straps. I realize it is new and it may loosen up a little once I use the harness more.gnome1ohm

Bought a different size harness for a different dog a few years ago and it fits and worked perfectly, so when another dog had trouble getting up and went straight to buy another harness to fit this dog. Wil buy another in a heartbeat.skunkchow*

The harness was way to big and did not fit well for my little dog. I was very disappointed as it was a small. I’m finding that there are no really good harnesses for little dogs like Yorkies. The customer service was excellent though! Very attentive and friendly. I would definitely order from Pet Safe again and recommend them to anyoneWeez

It is well constructed and while it did not work for the particular issue my dog had this time, I am keeping it in case something else happens with my dog (it can work independently front or back and for full body) in which case it will be ready and waiting.scviatorian

I have had this harness for Nikita, my Siberian Husky for a few months. I ❤️ this harness, it definitely helps with my fur baby when he tries to pull, & it is nice looking too.

I was so excited to receive the harness – it seemed like a huge upgrade from the old one I bought from Tractor Supply that my dog was using. Well. It took twice as long as expected to arrive which is ridiculous when I paid for shipping. The shipping fees were refunded, but I had purchased the item with the intent to use it by a specific date which didn’t happen since it didn’t arrive until MUCH later. When it finally did show up the package was ripped almost completely open and the packaging of the product was all messed up which is also ridiculous. Alright it’s here, looks like **** but it’s here. It’s a much brighter blue than I expected which I like. It took a little while to figure out how to adjust as the ends were so firmly tucked into the harness I thought I was going to break it. Finally got it on and adjusted and “Meh”. It’s not deep enough (front to back) in my opinion, and my dog is not an odd or unusual shape. I do like that it covers less surface area, she appears to stay cooler (but a double coated black dog in the humid Midwest is always hot). It does sag when wet (which is almost always as she swims regularly) BUT it dries and goes back to the original fit which is a pro I guess. I say I guess because I didn’t expect a harness I paid over $80 to sag at all when wet but ‍♀ It doesn’t show any wear yet which it shouldn’t for only having it 2 weeks. It does shift like crazy. Not as bad as the cheap tractor supply one, but again I expected ZERO shifting from the $80+ harness. Honestly I probably won’t buy again. I was super excited to find a harness with everything I wanted: reflectors (which the ones on this harness ****, seriously for $80 y’all couldn’t put reflective piping on all edges?!), a handle on the back, bright blue, goes over the head/ NOT a step through and had a back leash clip. But honestly I’m pretty disappointed. There is a lot of room for improvement in what I consider an expensive harness (more reflective piping, padding under the middle set of buckles, better fit, better choice of shipping carriers). I’m not going to get rid of it and it does fit better than the Tractor Supply but I don’t absolutely love it like I hoped.Seva P.

My girl discovered early on that she can back out of her harness in a heartbeat. She can't back out of the Flagline harness (yay!) and – more importantly – if needed, I can pull on the leash / harness without fear of hurting her. (There have been a couple times when we've encountered dogs who are too friendly — having the Flagline harness on my girl made it much easier to pull her back to a safe distance without fear of hurting her or having the harness pop off at a bad time.) The harness is easy to put on / take off. It's strong. The reflective trim helps make her more visible. The adjustable straps make it easy to size up during the winter time when she's got winter coat(s) to accommodate. Having clips for closure is so much nicer than harnesses with velcro closures. (Velcro closure doesn't last long – and trying to wash anything with velcro – oy veh!) The price was a little more than I thought I'd spend for a harness – but having a harness I can trust and that will last is worth every penny. 100% recommend!Karen G.

The harness is super adjustable and fits my pups barrel chest so well! We wanted the waist clip as the single rib clip always slipped off or got loose and it wasn’t enough security for us. We also really love the handles! The front loop works super well to mitigate some pulling (pups only 8 months old) and my favorite feature is the inner material that rests on his body, it’s not mesh or fabric that his short coat sticks into so his hair isn’t being rubbed off or sticking in the harness getting stuck in cracks and making it itchy or difficult to clean. This harness is also super easy to wash and I really love the hardy materials on this harness. Wish it came in orange but the grey works just as well on our pup! This harness just fits Róka so well and I’m so pleased with it!!!! It fits and contours to his whole body and moves with him when he’s moving around! You always use locking clips for all harnesses, the chest d ring open clasp was the thing a cat owner might invent, dogs are able to remove easily. Send these things out for testing. Like the design but let's get dog owners involvedMartyP

First the Pros: this harness is durable and I have no doubt it is strong and durable enough to hold my 70lb pittie when needed. It also does a great job of keeping her from pulling when using the chest loop. We love the Ruffwear brand and I (and my dogs) love the sweaters/clothing as they are always cold in temps below 70°. Cons: I watched the video on fitting the harness and every single walk results in raw skin/bleeding/scabs under her armpits (she has very thin fur on her underside) due to the material of the harness rubbing in this area. I also find the buckles a bit difficult to unclip as they are partially hidden inside the attachment area which means you have to squeeze the buckle through the thick harness material to release the clasp. Because of my love of their other products and the front clip feature, I may try to put some padding or softer material in the underarm area to see if that helps.Melissa S.

For the most part I really like this harness. The construction seems sturdy and the color is nice, and it’s very easy to get on and off. That said, I think it could be improved by lengthening the body (the neck to back, if you will). I have two mixed breed dogs who are very similar in shape, size, and weight. I purchased two of these harnesses, one in extra small and one in small. The small is overall a bit too large around, and the small (although ok for girth) is way too short. I am always trying to keep an eye on their underarms and backs of their elbows to make sure they aren’t getting raw spots. I’ve seen the same issue in other reviews, so I don’t think it’s just my dogs. I would also love it if you could purchase extenders in different sizes, because I think often a smaller size is better all around, but doesn’t extend in girth quite enough, while the next size up is too big. The good still outweighs the not perfect though, and I keep coming back to Ruffwear to buy different styles of harnesses!Samantha N.

I saw this harness at my local REI and without knowing anything about the brand or how it would impact my life, I knew it was “cute”. I bought it for my mischievous lab puppy who weighed around 50 lbs at the time, solely for that reason. The cute factor. I then came here and ordered the Ruffwear Knot-a-leash rope dog leash to match. We used the harness and leash combo for about a week, when my fearless puppy decided to show me how well it works. I was driving on the freeway, and while waiting in traffic to exit on the off ramp, I opened my back windows for her to get some fresh air. She was clipped to a cheap “doggie seatbelt clip” so she was secure, or so I thought. I hadn’t noticed that she had un-clipped herself from the seatbelt until the moment I saw her jump right out the car window, and disappear from my view. She wasn’t trained at the time and would make a run for it anytime possible. I panicked picturing my dog running into freeway traffic and being hit, but to my disbelief I found her hanging off the car window, being securely help in place by this harness and the rope leash that was still inside the car. The impact of her weight combined with the momentum of the jump, did nothing but dent the locking system of the carabiner shut, and held her weight without letting her escape or even touch the ground for that matter, and not a single rip happened to either the harness or the leash otherwise. This “expensive, but cute” dog accessory prevented my dog from a terrifying death that would have surely happened had she not been wearing both of these incredible, life-saving items. Thank you, Ruffwear, for making such amazing products that are truly life saving. I owe my dog’s life to you guys and I am forever grateful for that.Sabrina

I have bought half a dozen harnesses but this is by far the best (and I will ditch the others). It is very easy to get on my puppy and she seems quite comfortable in it. I use it with the Happy Ride Booster Seat and feel confident that the little dog is quite secure and comfortable while traveling and then I can easily attach her leash to take her for a walk in the park. Some of the other harnesses took a while to get a wriggling puppy into but this one is very easy.R F.

If you are like me – your pooch is your kid. You'd do anything to keep her safe. In parts of Europe – it is ILLEGAL to drive with a pet without a seat belt and I think that the USA should have the same laws. Did you know in an accident – that a dog cannot only die (and do) but they can kill the driver or a passenger when it is not wearing a seat belt? The fact that this can be prevented and people don't do it – is simply unacceptable. When I see people with a pet sitting on their lap – it makes me mad as it is not only UNSAFE for the dog and driver – it is unsafe for EVERYONE on the road – including me! It would be the same as if a child was sitting on the drivers lap! Save your life, your dogs life and be as SAFE as possible with your pet restrained as you would a child. I have 3 pitt bulls, and these are the ONLY seat belts that in my opinion – will save the life of my dogs in the event of a crash or a sudden stop. The bonus is that I can leave the windows down on a hot day without worrying about the dogs jumping out. Its simply safety all around. The ALLSAFE belts are the only substantial belt that I found out there. They are STRONG and STURDY and made from very heavy duty fabric and materials. I have tried many harnesses for my little guy and none of them worked, but this one did and I am so thrilled! All the other harnesses I've tried have either choked my dog or fit weirdly on him. This is the easiest harness I have tried on my two small dogs (15lbs and 10lbs). Goes on and off so much better than their old ones. I purchased two smalls but could have got one xs (esp once she had a haircut) but overall they are GREAT!budgun
