Large Dog On Plane For Sale (Jan 2023 Update)

I have a pretty picky kitty when it comes to carriers. He does not like hard plastic or metal bars. I got this Sherpa® Travel Original Deluxe™ Airline Approved Pet Carrier for up to 22 pounds to try and see if he liked it. I use it mainly for trips to the vet or visiting friends. It comes folded up (so you can store it under a bed easily) but is easy to fold out and put together. It comes with a stability board and faux lambswool liner that easily attach to the bottom with hook and loop strips. Also included is a shoulder strap. It has two openings: one of the top and one at the end. Both has zippers that lock. So kitty cannot escape. The is one small pocket on the back that could hold papers, or small toys or treats. Mesh sides provide plenty of light and air so kitty does not feel contained. I left my carrier out on the floor for him to investigate. He eventually went in and lay down. I did a test run just over to a friends house in my car. The carrier fit easily on my backseat. I was able to loop the shoulder strap over the headrest and also put the seat belt through the luggage band located on the rear side of the carrier. Kitty rode safely and for the most part, happy. He lay down and did not repeatedly circle. I love that the liner comes and out and is washable and that the entire carrier is washable. I love that the carrier is lightweight as Kitty weighs almost 20 pounds. I love that this carrier can be wedged into tighter spaces as it has a flexible frame.daisymae9624

I initially really liked this product. Its lightweight easy to carry. I kept it in my cat's comfort zone so he wouldn't be intimidated by it and he enjoyed laying in it and he relaxed quietly when being carried around. However it only took one 15 minute ride to the vet before this 11mo old cat became nervous and ripped it open at the seam. The hole was big enough to stick its head through and would have only gotten larger it I wasn't holding it shut (while driving). The product was listed for pets up to 16 pounds and my cat was not that big. The product does promote a 1 year warranty, however fine print states ***Worldwise will not accept the return of a bag that has carried an animal (yes you read that correct). SHERPA warranty covers manufacturing defects only. Pet damage of any kind is NOT covered under warrant. A copy of the original sales receipt is required to submit a SHERPA warranty claim.furbabiesSandO

I purchased two of these Original Sherpa bags over 20 years ago and have used them until just recently. My kitty passed away and i just got two new kittens, so decided to buy two more of these bags new and donate the old originals, although there was nothing at all wrong with them. Just thought it was time to buy new. The old ones lasted many years of traveling every month on planes, in cars, hotels, and definitely got more use than the average pet I’m sure! They held up all these years without even a rip or tear, even being shoved underneath airplane seats for years! HOWEVER, I wish I did not get rid of them. The new ones I just purchased do NOT by any means measure up to the old ones unfortunately. The saying holds true, that they don’t make things like they used to! The quality of this bag has gone way downhill since the ones I purchased many years ago! I cannot see these lasting anywhere near as long as my old ones. They are making them very cheaply now, and they did away with the extra compartment that was in between the back zippered one and the bag. There was another wide compartment about one inch wide, which was so convenient. I used to put my kitties food, dishes, and treats in there. It was perfect for travel! They unfortunately omitted that compartment now. The old ones also came with the luggage tag attached which identifies your pets name, owners name, and contact information. That is very important to keep on the bag! So unfortunately I would not really recommend this brand anymore.Nan A

Great carrier. Unzips all the way around for easy access to your pet if they're afraid and don't want to leave the carrier. A little unstable (difficult to wear in a way that keeps the carrier flat for the pet's comfort) but lightweight and sturdy. Solid zipper.lilt.r

The convenience of the carrier is that you can install caster wheels and it has the handles to pull around the carrier; two excellent features for mobility. Eazy to put together, however the locking tabs that hold the top and bottom together is not to secure enough; I purchased and secured with screws and bolts for peace of mind. Received with severe cracks on both side vents. Asked for replacement. 2nd crate was cracked in exactly the same spots. It was not a packaging problem. The boxes were not damaged in any way. I can see the plastic vents are vulnerable to pressure. I decided on another brand with metal venting. I was really looking forward the the ease of the type of latching of the top to the bottom piece and the ability to add casters. But two attempts was enoughMary E.C.

Needed three of these to fit my small hatchback. Only cage that would fit both my vehicle and largest dog. Rather tricky to assemble. I inhanced the safety by using zip ties to help hold the top and bottom together. Would have liked the option of opening the door from either side. I took my now 5 month old kitten (4 LB 6 oz) to the vet yesterday and decided I should get him a different carrier, one that would be more comfy for him and easier for me to carry too! Again, he is a 5 month old kitten, unfortunately he JUST fits into this carrier. Also, the shoulder/crossbody strap is impossible to latch on because the plastic on the latch has no give. I've had other Sherpa pet totes in the past and I wish this were made in a similar manner, providing strong support on the bottom but it does not. I am concerned after reading other reviews about kitties clawing their way out. I would be mortified. It seems to be of decent quality in terms of the fabrication and stitching. I do not want to return but feel the size is a major issue and for $30. I'd rather not have a carrier that can only be used for a few months. If you have an especially small pet I think this would make a wonderful carrier.Dawn

Upon bringing him home it literally fell apart and he got loose outside and had to be chased down. I followed the little instructions there were, latched and tightened everything the was to tighten and it still fell apart. And even when the 2 halves stay together the door never stays in place, complete waste of money!Stepcutie

Just bought 2 15 pound crates from a retail store and wow… I used to use petmate carriers almost exclusively and now I'll probably not buy another. Super shoddy construction, cheap, flexible plastic, would offer no protection in a car accident and probably wouldn't hold a determined animal.Fras

This kennel is strong. The tie-down holes, one per corner, go through both the top half and the bottom half of the kennel, which is an excellent improvement over no tie down holes. Another improvement over the old version is that water cannot collect on top since there are no bowl-like indentations on the top. The door is heavy construction, and can be mounted as Left or Right swing. I put the kennel on the passenger's side of the vehicle so that I can use the empty space behind the driver for carrying a jug of water, leashes, and other stuff. The advertised length is 40", but be aware that the usable length or "inside" length is 33". This is adequate if your dog is 33" or less from the top of the tail to the end of his front nails, while lying in the "sphinx" position. ONE CON: There are no drainage holes in the bottom half. I plan to drill my own (well, get the hubby to do it). A suggestion for the manufacturer: Make a Truck Version of the kennel. It would be the same as this except for two changes: (1) Add drain holes, and (2) Make the top rear panel (opposite the door) from transparent acrylic, so the driver can see through it. This would be a safety feature, as the blind spot would be reduced.Karen

A few months ago, I moved from the American Midwest to Eastern Europe and took my nine-year-old indoor cat with me. The preparation was nerve-wracking and I tried different carriers. This one was perfect and is definitely worth the money. It's flexible enough where I could take it in me in the middle of the flight or slide it back under the seat when landing; however, it's also sturdy enough to carry a bigger pet. Its best feature, of course, is its adjustable size. This bag allowed my pet plenty of room while adhering to all international regulations. I couldn't find another bag that did that. Also, if your pet is like mine and occasionally tries to get out by kicking and scratching, this is the bag you need. It's very solid, and the black one attracts no attention. It's dark, too, which allows your pet to feel protected. If you want peace of mind and a comfortable pet, I recommend it. Before getting this carrier, I red some reviews saying that it smelled like chemicals. It did, but after I aired it for a while and washed the removable plush cover, my pet had no issues.yusbreili.g

Great dog toy for all occasions. Was initially worried about the durability of the fabric and material with a year old Australian Shepherd but it has held up amazingly well! Light weight and easy to throw make for some fun catches. Heavy wind can take flight path over but was never an issue. Great in the water, stays afloat and doesn't get soggy and weighed down. Exceeded my expectations and have already went and got a second as a back up!John C

Overall, our experience with Ruffwear has been great. Our dog has enjoyed every minute of catching these things and the durability is usually good enough to endure numerous sessions. After purchasing over 10-15 frisbees we would recommend this to many dog-lovers in a heartbeat… However, unfortunately, our last shipment arrived and the frisbees were not flying as they normally do. Whenever we throw the frisbees they dive down and give our best buddy no chance to catch them ;(. It seems that our last order may have came a bit bent, seeing as the frisbees seem to be caving a bit when they sit flat. Or they could've been damaged in transit. This last shipment was not up to our expectations, and while we have had good past experiences with Ruffwear, it is hard to justify us paying a decent amount of money if they do not fly correctly. Hopefully, this was just a one off experience, as we would normally give the product more stars if our last shipment did not seem to be faulty. It would be nice to have replacements seeing as we have a long history of ordering these fun toys for our best friend.Brenda L.

After watching several balls roll down the river because my dog was distracted or couldn’t see them, I watched another dog owner throw the Hydro Plane for her dog. What a great toy! I have not had a chance to use this item yet but it seems well made. Zippered openings are big enough to get my ten pound cat in and out easily. I think if your pet is larger than that you should get the larger carrier. Zippers are a bit stiff but will probably soften up.Lucy

This brand's quality is TERRIBLE & kinda feeling like petco is for mailing one that's obviously coming apart ngl. Literally the mat was sized wrong, side not properly attached, the front clearly wasn't stitched right, or it's used?.. Poor stitching overall. Doesn't look used at first glance but it's coming apart. I'm not gonna post every picture, but this brand seems to be unreliable. Contacted petco but they need pics and can't tell me if I can get it repaired? Basically it's not their problem, they're contacting the company they got it from. If it wasn't the only carrier my rescue kitten was curious about instead of terrified of I wouldn't bother… It's sold out so I can't keep ordering it hoping for a good one. Can't use a carrier if the zippers pops open or it's falling apart… Checking more tailor type places locally but petco *couldn't* tell me if they'd cover minor repairs or if they had repair services?? Weird. Petco doesn't stand by this brand at all. No exchange options or recommendations. Altho it didn't work as I'd hoped, the SHERPA BRAND ONES ARE SO NICE (our other family cat got the basic one I bought, she actually started hanging out in it. She avoided her old plastic carrier at all costs lol). Kitten was too spooked by it no matter what we tried. If your pet will use it, the sherpa backpack style one is so nice like I wished soooo hard it would work. Good luck but avoid this brand unless like me you're running out of options.PIckIeRlCK

There’s no way I bought the same carrier as the same people who wrote good reviews. The zipper broke the first time I zipped it. The shoulder strap makes it not sturdy. Not as large as I thought it would be and I bought the large. My cat takes daily trips to the vet so I was looking for something easier to carry. This is not it. I’ll have to make it work due to my budget but I wouldn’t recommend it.amandax

I like that my kitten is visible when I placed her inside the carrier. I love the clasp that keeps the zipper from accidentally opening once my kitten was placed inside. It comes with a small cushion which is a plus! It is extremely light weight! There’s plenty of room for my pet to move around. I love the color too. The only con is the bottom is a little bit flimsy. I would have given it a five stars if the bottom was more firm. However, I’m going to try placing a card board on the bottom of the carrier to see if it gives it more support for my kitten.Esther N

This is Samson’s 2nd Snoozer. The first one was purchased 6 years ago and got plenty of use. I use it as a car seat, a wheeled carrier, an under the seat bed when flying and a backpack when he gets tired hiking. I bought the medium sized carrier for my 20 year old 19 pound Siamese cat. Other reviews said that the medium sized carrier was acceptable by most airlines and I needed it for our trips to Florida on Frontier Airlines. It is a tight fit but it does fit under the middle seat. Did not try the aisle or window. The main complaint that I have is the difficulty of access. There is a metal bar that separates a zippered lower opening and a zippered upper opening. It appears that the bar is used for stability, which is fine, but it greatly reduces the accessibility to your pet when you have to take them out for the TSA inspection at a crowed airport security checkpoint. It is very convenient to carry my dog in a backpack while going through security. Then pulling up the handle and being able to roll her to my gate. I have a 7 lb chihuahua and I bought her the medium carrier. She is a little longer in the body than the average chihuahua. She fits beautifully and has plenty of room to move and lay down in both the upright position and when the carrier is laying down. I would definitely suggest you put in a soft blanket because there is no cushioning, I also went and bought a soft waterproof material and velcroed it on the Part of the carrier that she would lay on under the seat. That way if there were any accidents I could take it out and wash it.B Y

I ordered the PINK Carrier that was pictured!! I drive all the way to the store and he walks out with a GREEN one!! I’m like.. NO!! I ordered PINK and that’s what’s in the picture of my order! He tries to explain that they just get whatever Colors are sent to the store! I had him Return it! I did just look at my Order again and in SMALL PRINT it says let them…PETCO..pick a color for you? Bought this on sale to take kittens to vet appointment. I bought two hoping it would work out but when I arrived at the vet to unload them they had both unzipped it and we're loose in the car. Thankfully they did not escape into the busy street.Ray29

The material is very weak. My hamster chewed multiple holes throughout the carrier and I had to make sure she didn't escape during the whole trip. -Jessica K. This carrier is the PERFECT size for my Yorkie. Carries comfortably through the airport and fits well under the seat on both Southwest Airlines and American Airlines. Stiff bottom for patella and hip support for my baby while she's being carried. Great buy, especially for the price.Megan

Not as sturdy as expected. The bottom is weak and bends with the weight of a house cat. Purchased two based on reviews from others, and that was a mistake. This is very weak and unstable. The bottom feels like it will tear away from the sides and fall out. Won't buy again.dledbet

We've got two adult cats, one of which is a really big guy at 17 pounds (he is overweight which we're dealing with, but he's also just a very large framed cat). The big guy has stretched a supposedly hard sided carrier to the point that the door pops out. Obviously, that doesn't do us much good with keeping him secure for vet visits. When I saw these soft-sided carriers, I wasn't positive they would work for us, particularly since our other cat has all of her claws and that mesh didn't necessarily look too sturdy in the picture. These were on sale for a deep discount on Easter Sunday so I took a chance and snapped up a couple of them to try with our critters. I was pleasantly surprised to find the quality to be pretty high and as soon as as zipped them up into their carrier shape and set them out with the doors open, both of our cats immediately climbed in them just to hang out. The size is perfect for even a larger adult cat — not too small that he can't move around or turn around, but not big enough for either cat to be sliding around on the journey. With the long shoulder strap, they were easy to carry to and from the car without jostling the cats around too much which I appreciated since our female cat is pretty skiddish about taking trips anywhere. I will admit to being afraid that the zipper would hold up to 17 pounds of cat hanging off of it, but so far so good. I can't speak to the durability of the mesh when pitted against claws because our little one was too scared of where she was going to really try to escape, but it seems like it would hold up to casual abuse at least. There was a slight new material kind of odor when I first got these out of the package, but I didn't notice it after airing them out for a bit and the cats didn't care so it wasn't an issue. All in all, these are great carriers that I think should work fine for both smaller and larger sized cats and in my tiny house, I love that they fold up almost flat for storage. Worth it at the sale price I paid, worth at the regular price as well.asps

This pet carrier is pretty much perfect. It's a nice size for small dogs and cats, though I've never used it on a dog because I just have cats. The bottom piece however is essential so you got to make sure you don't lose that or else your pet would be very uncomfortable. It's durable has a good handle and I like all the open space so you can see how your cat is doing. The zipper also works very well to make sure your cat doesn't accidentally escape when you're not looking.kandis.f

I was waiting to review once I used the carrier's. I have a 14 lb. Cat and 7 lb and excellent for both. They were not traumatized being put in this carrier vs the hard plastic ones. Highly recommend.Michelle K.

We absolutely love this carrier! I love how it's so flexible, and it can be folded flat for storage. It has a lot of mesh windows for my cat to see from the inside out without overheating inside, and it has a lot of zippered sections that I can unzip for her to poke her head out! It also has a pocket, where I can keep treats. It's such a great design and great quality! My cat jumped in the carrier as soon as I took it out of the box. We love it so much! Thank you!Theresa C.

Superb pet carrier for small or medium cat or dog. I like this model as it has a narrower contour than some others (i.e. less boxy) so it is "puurfect" for traveling 🙂 ! Also, the faux sherpa cushion is a great touch to create comfort but without bulk — and it's washable! The outside design and look of the bag is very modern and presentable to go with other designer looking luggage.LolaMarilynStar
