I agree that my dog, a lab hates the flavor and was seeking out the pill and spitting it out until I tried baby food turkey and chicken in the little jars. I use a baby spoon and bury the pill in the meat. She gobbles it up and does even notice even the pill. We do it on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. My 12 year old Shiba Inu had 850 liver enzymes. That's so bad and I was so stressed. She has been on this stuff for over 1 year and now her enzymes are about 420. I read some other reviews on how people are getting their dog to take the pill and I laughed because it's what I do also! Cocker has “dry eyes and prescribed steroids and cyclosporine twice daily each eye. Suspect his extremely elevated liver enzymes may be due to long term steroid use or could just be his age. Haven’t tested for Cushing’s but sonograms reveal no tumors on liver or pituitary glands. He was lethargic and never feeling well until his doctor advised trying the Denamarin. His Opthalmologist concurred it was a great idea. Haven’t yet tested his liver enzymes again to see if the numbers have improved (hasn’t been on them quite a full month) but I’ve reordered and will receive the pills monthly. Bottom line: he’s a lot more energetic, playing with his toys again, not sleeping all the time, just overall feeling so much better. He’s acting normal again—normal for an 11-plus year-old Cocker. Did a lot of research before giving him the Denamarin and felt they were safe, and most people had positive results using it. Only drawback would be that the pills for large dogs are really big. You’re supposed to administer 1 hr before or 2 hrs after a meal, which I do with a little piece of boiled chicken breast to hide it and help it go down, and it goes down without a problem. Can’t imagine any dog of any size being able to swallow a pill that size without an owner hiding it in a little chunk of something, cheese, pill pocket, treat. Anything to help it go down easier. And helps if they drink a little water. Can’t wait to have his liver enzymes tested again. I’m confident they will have improved. Side note: when one’s liver is not working properly, urine can have an odd and strong odor, which his did. Standing several feet away, I knew something wasn’t right. That too has resolved which makes me believe his liver is on the mend.Yvonne

I have 6 small breed rescued dogs that are all seniors. I've been using this for all, except one dog for many years. One of my dogs has a very sensitive stomach and can't use this supplement (I believe it's a beef and/or liver sensitivity), but the other dogs have no problem at all. They like the taste and most importantly it really helps! All of my dogs being seniors, 9yrs up to 18yrs (yep, 18 yrs old) have joint issues from age and this really seems to help with joint pain and even joint popping/cracking. They seem to be able to play more on this supplement too! If I ever run out, I noticed their joints popping more often and after only a couple days of using this product I notice a big difference. I haven't used this for larger breeds or younger adult dogs, but I imagine it would be great for them too, especially with all the joint issues that come with larger breeds. FYI, ALL the supplement sizes are the same product but with different sized scoops and dosage instructions based on the scoop size. I believe all the jars except the smallest size come with a larger scoop (supposedly 1oz, but seems to be more IMO) and the dosage instructions are based on the included scoop. So, if you're like me and buy a large sized jar for multiple smaller dogs, make sure to check the dosage instructions on the small size jar accurate instructions. Or maybe just contact the company for more accurate dosage instructions. Our dog developed an inflamed bladder due to chemotherapy he was taking for cancer. He went from never having an accident to completely losing bladder control. These have been a life saver! My only complaint is that they do shrink a bit after washing, so I had to order the extenders in order to be able to use them after they’ve been washed a few times. Our Hava-Tzu started marking about three years after having him. He was fixed but out of the blue he started. Had him to the vet and he was physically great! But we endured him marking on the stainless steel frig, the bottom drawer of our stainless steel stove and the front of the dishwasher not to mention to many baseboards to name!! I got these chews for my little guy with chronic back and knee pain. He takes a daily dose of Carprofen (doggie ibuprofen) that I would like to get him off of since it is hard on his liver and kidneys. I'm hoping that these joint and hip chews will help make that happen. I like that these chews are made in the USA as at least the ingredients used in pet food products are regulated by the FDA. When you buy pet food products from other countries, it is a crapshoot if what you are buying is even safe for your pet. I also like that this formula is veterinary approved. As for flavor, my dogs will eat them, with caution. I have some aggressive snackers that usually gulp down treats the moment it enters their lips. This chew they actually take time to eat which lends me to believe that they are "on the fence" about the flavor. They are squishy so they are easy to break apart by hand which is convenient. I have an elder rescue who's been having issues with joint pain and discomfort. Since she has started taking these chews. She is able to go on walks without limping as much after. I've like that ingredients come from the United States and Canada. My 85 lb. Plot Hound (Buddy) likes the taste of theses chews. I like that all the ingredients aide in hip and joint health. Dasuquin is an updated product from Nutramax. We gave Nutramax Cosequin to old German Shepherd and Australian cattle dogs that have since passed on because it gave them relief from joint pain that was obvious in the improvement in their ability to get up and lie down and run again. I'm giving maintenance doses of Dasuquin to two large dogs we have now that are age 4 and 5yr to extend the life of their joints. The ingredients are similar to human nutritional supplements for older people: Glucosamine, chondroitin, brewers yeast, dextrose, green tea extract, gum resin, lecithin, cellulose, mixed tocopherols, flavoring and soy protein. avocado/soybean unsaponifiables (ASU) ….. We haven't used Dasuquin long enough for a long term review so my rating is based on previous experience with Nutramax products. The tablets are 3/4 inch in diameter. My dogs won't eat them as they are so I break them into fourths with my fingers and drop them into their food. The tablets are easy to break. I was told my dog had a luxating patella. We would hear his knee popping in and out all the time. After trying several times to feed these supplements to my seven year old dog and having him eat his food and leave his Fera chews in the bowl, I tried inserting each pill into a lump of canned dog food then hand feeding it to him. He takes that down in one swallow. The chewy pills (pictured) don't smell bad to me and don't make my dog sick but they must not appeal to him, so I'll feed the remainder of the chews with canned food every other day. My dog is often resistant to anything he's not used to so this may change. If other reviewers say the same about their pet then it must not smell edible to them. As far as any effect of the supplement I'm unable to tell in this short period of time. A maintenance dose is 2 chews every two days for a 60lb. or larger dog. There are 90 soft chews in the container. I've been giving him joint supplements as a preventative since he was six years old. I've owned other dogs that had problems beginning at 8 – 10 years, now I start them earlier. I have only had these for a short time, but wanted to provide my initial take. In comparing the ingredients to a couple of other well known joint supplements, these have a higher concentration of some of the items like MSM and additional items like Turmeric. I like that. The size of these is fairly small, so no issues for a small dog or large. The texture is a little gooey. It is not like a gummy or anything, just very slightly gooey. That is the best way I can describe it. I have 2 mini pins and one took it no issues. The other, that usually eats almost anything, played with it a bit, but did eventually eat it. The following time, he ate it, with only minor hesitation, so he is getting used to the consistency. I have been using Dasuquin MSM in the hard pill form for over a year now for my almost 15 year old, 88 pound Airedale – Standard Poodle mix. I have been very impressed with the improved mobility my dog has/is experienced/ing. I decided to try the soft chew, but was a bit nervous given another reviewers comment that they were too large and his dog would not touch them. I called and spoke to 1-800-PETMEDS and the person I talked to told me that I could return the product for a full refund if my dog doesn't like them. So I decided to try. He loves them! And eats them as if they are treats. No having to disguise them in cheese or peanut butter. Yay! For what ever it is worth, I've tried with and without MSM and my dog has a better outcome *with MSM*. I have been giving Nutramax Dauquin Soft Chews for Small Dogs to my 11 year old Maltese dog, Molly, for over 2 years. It has absolutely changed her life. My Labrador had stitches in her front leg right on the ankle joint so it was at high risk of infection as very close to the bone. I was hoping this would negate the need for the huge buster collar however, she would still lick at it through the sleeve and make it wet therefore increasing the risk of infection to the wound. She therefore still had to wear the buster collar as well as the sleeve to stop her licking it. Within a couple of days, there was a hole in the material of the sleeve and since then, a further tear has developed, so the quality of the material is not that good. She has also worked out how to get her leg out of it so all in all, it hasn’t been that great! That said, I would still recommend using one as it was better than not having the wound covered at all but for me, it didn’t negate the need for a buster collar unfortunately.Julieann
1 Very happy owner and one calm snoring Dog. He`s been at the top of his leg the last few days and licked it raw . No socks long enough and a long sleeved T shirt was not a success . Ordered this sleeve out of desperation . Money well spent ….. came in a flash and as soon as I put it on he seemed really excited and happy, running round barking the way he does before we go a walk. Now he`s sleeping and not looked at his leg once. My kitty girl LOVES these…She is 16 and a half now and has been having some issues. Her vet recommended them since she was having joint problems, as well as frequent urinary tract infections (UTI's). I have to say that these Glyco-Flex chews for cats have been EXCELLENT for both issues. I do have another cat that will not eat them, but for the one that needs them she absolutely devours them! She would eat the entire bag full if I let her. Within a week I could tell she was walking MUCH better and her UTI's have hardly been an issue. She has now been on them for a few months and she is still doing very well. She is much more playful and a very happy kitty since I started her on these. I highly recommend them for your cat if they are getting older and need some help for the joints.
My dog, Max, was beginning to suffer from joint pain, so much so that I had to take him to the emergency room over Christmas. My mom told me about these and sent me a package & I followed the directions and in about a month Max was feeling better. In two months he was running around again with a big "lab smile" like I hadn't seen him do in a long time. (He wasn't crippled before, he just took his time, but the night I took him to the emergency room he was in a lot of pain.) Our 25 lb. Lhasa Apso will be 15 in May. He began limping and having obvious weakness in his hind quarters. Since Osteo Biflex works wonders for me, I started giving Buddha a lesser dose. Don't say it! I know better! But it did work and when he had his checkup at vet she recommended Gyclo-Flex III and Rimadyl instead. This worked for a couple yrs. then I increased dosage by 1/2 a chew and after a couple weeks Buddha went from limping to trotting like a pup. It is not easy to get this thing on my dog as she really doesn't want it. However, because she had a pretty serious ulcer on her hip where we prefers to lay (a senior dog "bedsore")and it was not healing – even with antibiotics and all the topical treatments. The donut has helped because she mostly sleeps on that side. It would have been better with a larger hole in the middle because it does shift a bit with the harness when she's in certain positions.
