Large Dog Bike Carrier For Sale (Jan 2023 Update)

This trailer is easy to open & get ready for the road (I wouldn't describe it as "assembly"– you're just opening it up and popping on wheels). The ride is smooth, and we haven't had any tipping issues (my dog weighs 32lb). It's not especially heavy compared to other dog trailers. It's simple to detach & reattach to your bike for use. My critiques are that the nylon material isn't super rugged or thick, so zip with care. I do wish the back door also had a mesh layer so that if you're riding with someone behind you, they could see the dog.name Nicole

I've been searching for a large pet trailer for a nearly 70Lb dog. Decided to go for the Schwinn Rascal Plus as the price point was decent, though I could not find a single review for this particular trailer. Almost all the reviews are for the regular Schwinn Rascal for up to 50Lb dogs. I didn't want to spend over $200 for a large trailer, especially one my dog may not use at all. SET UP: It didn't come with a manual so I needed to contact the manufacturer for one. I based my purchase on the reviews of the smaller Schwinn Rascal (for dogs up to 50Lbs) and assumed assembly and function would be similar in regards to how easy it is to put together. This isn't the case for the Rascal Plus. There are a lot of parts. When I got a hold of the manual, it isn't very user friendly and needs a lot more detail. It was a two person job to put everything together, and you do require a number of tools (no tools are included). The cross bar is what allows the trailer to fold for storage. For the Rascal Plus, the crossbar is VERY difficult to put in place. I needed assistance from someone who is physically strong and even for them it wasn't easy to secure into place. I'm now hesitant to collapse the trailer for storage because I'll need help to get it set up again. Wheels: The wheels make me anxious, quite honestly. It's a pin that holds it in place , not secured in any other way. I took the trailer out for a test drive and I can feel the trailer shaking a lot. I'm not sure how safe I would feel having a living being in this trailer on the road knowing that a simple metal pin/clip is holding the wheels in place. Just about most parts are held together by pins, that are released by pushing a metal clip out of the way. The trailer does tilt back quite a bit, maybe I need to adjust the tow bar coupler position on my bike but right now it isn't level. The Cabin: Large cabin however this isn't for tall/long dogs. For reference, my dog is 45" long from nose to the base of tail (sacrum area) and 30" tall. The inside diameter of the cabin is 31" in length, 22" width. I like that the weight capacity is high enough at least to hold the weight of the my dog, but also hold a significant amount of weight when I need to haul items. Fabric: I can't speak on durability of the fabric but it is very thin and the entire unit is covered in pressure marks. It could use reflective material for night time visibility, right now there is only 1 small red reflector attached to the back. The weight of this trailer is quite heavy. I have no idea if it's made out of aluminum or steel because the product details are different (for the regular Rascal trailer) on just about all sites I've visited. I can feel it when I cycle up a slight incline. I do also think the attachment interferes with the wheel in someway, like my wheels weren't moving as smoothly after installing this trailer. There's a fabric strap that gets caught near the chain plate, which I moved further away but then it doesn't clip back to the original loop and I had to clip it to the tow bar pin near the coupler.Holistic Pets

This is a great product for your pet. Our 53 lb. lab loves it. It has easy access from the back and she gets right in. There is plenty of room in the 2 pockets inside the trailer and a smaller pocket on top. I only gave it 4 stars because I had a hard time removing the piece off the latch while I was assembling it. It comes with a mat for the bottom of the carrier but we added a dog pad to make the ride more comfortable for our dog. The material seems sturdy and we leave the front open for her to enjoy the ride. It has a small lead leash to secure your pet for the ride. It pulled very well behind my bike. We have electric bikes and the trailer hitch fit just fine on the wheel hub.Staci J

I brought this as it was the lightest I could find. It is light and stable But it is still bulky, difficult to take the wheels off ( they may just be stiff) The plastic on the lower window has cracked already ( only used it for 5 days so far) and the lower window is useless,( unless you are carrying a cat….what animal wants to look out at that level and to your back wheel) the top opening is huge and the mud from the wheels sprays in. So a stable light weight trailer….may be the best on the market ( at this price) but lots of things that niggle! Oh and the plastic button to hold back the top flap came off as soon as I tried to use it…..Joy M

Excellent trailer. Well made, light weight and looks good too. My two Lhasa’s both fit and love it. The two loops on inside mean both can be secured in. We purchased some shock resistant lead adapters to use to secure them. Wheels pop of easy and store under sofa while carriage works well as a dog bed when not being used with bike.Anonymous

We had to put a few holes on the bottom and zip tied it tighter to the front bike rack. I also added padding to the bottom for doggie bottom comfort. The double leach clips are handy. Lots if room for my 8lb Shihtzu. Daisy loves riding in it. Great way to include your small lap dog. Any larger I would recommend a trailer.Lara W.

Finally, took my cat out for a ride and she did not jump out. She loves the basket. The basket is very well made – high-quality construction. and looks cool too. It was pretty easy to mount onto the bike. I like the side pockets – very convenient to stick my phone, water bottle, and whatever. My cat keeps jumping back into the basket after as well. I think it may be due to the removable fleece lining and the size of the basket – makes her feel all snuggly inside.Streamrock

I I'm extremely happy with my k&h travel bike basket that I use for my dog. It was extremely easy to install and has the easy option for removal after the bracket is installed. That is extremely important so you can clean it out. It's also quite helpful to keep it dry if you live in an area that likes to rain which I do. The soft insert slips out easily and can be thrown in the washing machine the inner area is made of a waterproof wipe down material. The installation was not real hard I was able to do it on my own with minimal frustration. I love the little side pockets I stick treats and a water bottle along with pet waste clean up bags. The double clip makes me feel safe and secure that he is not going to be able to jump out. My dog loves to ride with me I would recommend it for anyone who would like to venture out with their dog.Kimber032

It's really nice but it didn't fit on my bike, it's too big. Plus my dog is way to small. It's for a dog at the very least 10lbs. Also It would be good for the car. If it was a little smaller I would have kept it for the car.joang888

Works great for a 14 lbs dog. My only suggestion would be to make the basket itself less heavy – a sturdy frame is important but the wicker adds a lot of unnecessary weight.meyeus.7hqk8nm

Great quality! Works great! Love the size, padding, buckles and cage! Our chihuahua has plenty of room and loves biking with us. I love the cage, as I don’t worry about him getting out while I’m going along. The cage is the best feature for us, as I didn’t want a basket that only had the leash attachment – the basket gives him freedom, yet keeps him safe and he can see through! Love it!Karen

If I could, I'd give no stars. Not only was the pocket on the side sewn on upside down, I put the basket together as instructed and when I used it as a shoulder holder, the strap broke and the basket went swinging. Thank goodness we were not outside, using it and that happened. My dog could have gotten really hurt. Then on top of that, I asked for a return and instead they credited me partial of what I paid and that's it. This damage was not caused by me….that's how it arrived! So why am I paying for it!!!?!!!! No return label sent as the girl who helped me advised it would be sent. Very disappointed and wont be ordering from you again.Leilani

I bought this for my daughter so she could take her dog bike riding. The basket is poorly made and the straps are hard to attach to the handle bars because all the cables and brake handles get in the way. When my daughter was riding the bike the basket slipped and hit the front tire of the bike and the puppy and her crashed and fell into traffic lucky the car behind her was able to stop before they got ran over. They both had scratches and scrapes but they were both ok. DO NOT buy this product it is dangerous and should not be sold.Jccc

Good product for small 5ish lbs dog. You need to make sure the inside safety strap is tight enough. Our dog jumped out and was hanging by the neck for awhile until we got the bike stopped. She was fine, it was just very scarey!Doglover

Great design and so awesome have on my bike! I did not know my dog was claustrophobic. There is a way to connect an internal leash to the cart to keep the dog in, but my dog panicked jumped out the top and rolled the cart as we took off. Good news! The cart is built with a safety feature that does not pull your bike over if the cart were to tip. Again, great design. Working with my dog to slowly to help her become familiar with the product. A PLUS: if the dog does not come with us, we can put a cooler and picnic lunch in the back. Wonderful to haul things in.Debra W.

The trailer is wonderful. Very roomy for my two toy poodles and easy (10 minute) assembly. The instructions state that the kit comes with a hex wrench, but it did not so you will need your own. It did come with all other needed attachments though – you do NOT need to buy the bike coupler attachment separately as it comes with that. It also came with a safety flag. My biggest disappointment is that it took 17 days from the day I ordered the trailer for it to arrive. I reached out to customer service three times after receiving no updates regarding its shipping status (the link I was provided was broken). The staff were very responsive and kind, but often did not have any definitive answers they could provide on an ETA. If you are looking for a pet trailer in general, I'll say this one is a great pick. But I would go a different route if you are on a time crunch to get one.Bl

Trailer came very quickly but the box was damaged. Luckily nothing inside was affected. Upon assembly I found lots of issues… most of the locking pins do not attach or detach without a lot of force and readjustment. This is particularly frustrating with the pins inside the trailer as there is no easy way to access them without laying on the ground and sticking half my body inside the trailer. The holes for the tow bar connector are not aligned so the only way to attach the trailer to my bike is by winding and holding the spring as i put in the locking pin, something that would be difficult even if they were aligned because as i said the locking pins do not go in easily. The way that the spokes of the trailer tires are set up using the locking lever of a bike pump is not possible and there was nothing in the instructions about inflating the tires. It looks very cute though. I got the blue one and its a nice color. I like that the mat at the bottom is removable, I do wish it attached in someway because every time I bring it out to use it the mat falls off and has to be repositioned. If you're planning on leaving it on your bike all the time none of the issues will really come up but thats not the situation for me and its a real irritating process to go for a ride with my dog.Kacy

We have two Schnauzers and they absolutely love the Buddy Rider. We mounted 1 as shown in the picture to my Townie step through. The only suggestion that I can make is the mounting bar be about 2 inches longer. My legs rub a little on the sides of the Buddy Rider every time I peddle. You need to mount it as high and forward as you can to prevent this. The second we will do a custom mounting on the rack behind my wife's seat. She needs to be able to step through to get on her bike and there is no way to do this with the mount provided. The Buddy Rider is a great design and both we and the dogs love it. The product seems awesome! Getting my doggo to sit in it is not as awesome. I have successfully forced him into the seat twice, once just sitting on the ground and the second time, actually while it was on the bike. He seemed content once he was safely strapped in and we did go for a pretty short ride, which he also seemed to enjoy. Unfortunately it has just been too darn cold to break out the bikes for a ride of my any length. Looking forward to warmer weather, happy trails and a wagging’ tail!Cynthia S

We bought bikes before we rescued our sweet girl in November of 2019. Since then, our bikes have gone untouched because if we are doing an outdoors activity, we want to include her. I have a pretty picky kitty when it comes to carriers. He does not like hard plastic or metal bars. I got this Sherpa® Travel Original Deluxe™ Airline Approved Pet Carrier for up to 22 pounds to try and see if he liked it. I use it mainly for trips to the vet or visiting friends. It comes folded up (so you can store it under a bed easily) but is easy to fold out and put together. It comes with a stability board and faux lambswool liner that easily attach to the bottom with hook and loop strips. Also included is a shoulder strap. It has two openings: one of the top and one at the end. Both has zippers that lock. So kitty cannot escape. The is one small pocket on the back that could hold papers, or small toys or treats. Mesh sides provide plenty of light and air so kitty does not feel contained. I left my carrier out on the floor for him to investigate. He eventually went in and lay down. I did a test run just over to a friends house in my car. The carrier fit easily on my backseat. I was able to loop the shoulder strap over the headrest and also put the seat belt through the luggage band located on the rear side of the carrier. Kitty rode safely and for the most part, happy. He lay down and did not repeatedly circle. I love that the liner comes and out and is washable and that the entire carrier is washable. I love that the carrier is lightweight as Kitty weighs almost 20 pounds. I love that this carrier can be wedged into tighter spaces as it has a flexible frame.daisymae9624

I initially really liked this product. Its lightweight easy to carry. I kept it in my cat's comfort zone so he wouldn't be intimidated by it and he enjoyed laying in it and he relaxed quietly when being carried around. However it only took one 15 minute ride to the vet before this 11mo old cat became nervous and ripped it open at the seam. The hole was big enough to stick its head through and would have only gotten larger it I wasn't holding it shut (while driving). The product was listed for pets up to 16 pounds and my cat was not that big. The product does promote a 1 year warranty, however fine print states ***Worldwise will not accept the return of a bag that has carried an animal (yes you read that correct). SHERPA warranty covers manufacturing defects only. Pet damage of any kind is NOT covered under warrant. A copy of the original sales receipt is required to submit a SHERPA warranty claim.furbabiesSandO

I purchased two of these Original Sherpa bags over 20 years ago and have used them until just recently. My kitty passed away and i just got two new kittens, so decided to buy two more of these bags new and donate the old originals, although there was nothing at all wrong with them. Just thought it was time to buy new. The old ones lasted many years of traveling every month on planes, in cars, hotels, and definitely got more use than the average pet I’m sure! They held up all these years without even a rip or tear, even being shoved underneath airplane seats for years! HOWEVER, I wish I did not get rid of them. The new ones I just purchased do NOT by any means measure up to the old ones unfortunately. The saying holds true, that they don’t make things like they used to! The quality of this bag has gone way downhill since the ones I purchased many years ago! I cannot see these lasting anywhere near as long as my old ones. They are making them very cheaply now, and they did away with the extra compartment that was in between the back zippered one and the bag. There was another wide compartment about one inch wide, which was so convenient. I used to put my kitties food, dishes, and treats in there. It was perfect for travel! They unfortunately omitted that compartment now. The old ones also came with the luggage tag attached which identifies your pets name, owners name, and contact information. Cykelkorgen är relativt fin och lättmonterad men man måste ha en lång pakethållare för att den skall sitta stabilt ( om ens då). Klorna som håller fast korgen skulle behövt vara fler eller större. Jag använde buntband för att säkra upp den och nu känns den tryggare. Hunden slår lätt i huvudet i gallret vid inbromsning, kommer nog ta bort eller kapa en del av gallret på min. Över lag en bra produkt men skulle behöva utvecklas lite för att verkligen funka. Min hund väger 8-9 kg och den känns inte trygg utan att fästas med ytterligare förstärkning.Hillevi

Bought Pet Palace a couple of months ago and my little fella is very comfortable,protected from the elements ( cooler weather) and definitely happier than in his milk crate. Lots of storage for leads,food and water plus baggies. This product is a little larger than the original one so is extra roomy and water bottle carrier at least you can put at a bottle in it and not wasted space. Lots of venting for warmer weather. The Pet Palace is a little on pricey side but I feel my co-pilot is safe and secure. He weighs 11 lbs.Pleasure

Very happy with the carrier so far except for the zippers. This is my second Pet Palace and I have had several zipper failures on each of them. I've been able to re-sew the zippers in a few cases but eventually they need replacement. Higher quality zippers would be nice; granted I use the bag every day so it gets a lot of use. Also, on this model the metal rod on one side eventually poked through the fabric and rubbed a hole in the fabric by the zipper. I repaired it and eventually shortened the metal rod a bit and repaired the hole it made so that it wouldn't poke through any more. If the metal support rod was bent at each end so that it followed the curve at the corner of the bag this might not happen and it might provide additional structure. Also I liked that the last model had two tether points on the inside of the bag (we travel with two tiny dogs). I riveted my own d-ring tether points on each corner of this one (like the old model) to give myself more flexibility. Other than that, it's a great bag.Jess

They tout a "rigid internal frame", but calling it "rigid" is being generous. It's about as rigid as a plastic soda bottle so it will hold its shape, but it will also deform when strapped down, when your 20lb beagle mix leans out of it, etc. It is not a roll cage, so don't expect it to offer any sort of safety should you get into a bad accident, but really none of these things will so that's something you just understand when opting to take your dog with you on a bike. Also keep in mind that it's an echo chamber inside. A heavy blanket really dampens the sound, and seemed to satisfy my sensitive girl. All that being said, it's probably the best option on the market, especially for anything larger than a toy breed. The vents and pockets are nice. The attachment points are helpful and the included straps should be adequate, but I replaced them with something stronger. The size is about as big as I could fit on a DR650 between a tail box and myself. Not perfect, but no regrets.Matthew

Ich habe den Basil Buddy gekauft, um unseren Beagle (ca. 10 kg) auf unserem Motorroller mitnehmen zu können. Die Befestigung auf dem Gepäckträger war recht einfach. Zur Stabilität hat mein Mann noch zusätzliche Schellen angebaut. Jetzt läßt sich der Korb ganz einfach an und ab machen. Der Hund sitzt mit dem Gitter sehr sicher und fährt gerne mit. Mit einer 2. Platte kann man den Korb, ganz einfach zwischen Fahrrad und Roller wechseln. Zwei Minuspunkt: 1. Die Gummibefestigungen des Gitters sind sofort an den festen Enden abgebrochen. Wir haben diese dann durch eine dickere Gummischnur ersetzt. 2. Das Kissen ist nicht fest genug.Merle

Als ich diesen Korb gesehen habe, war es Liebe auf den ersten Blick. Also kaufte ich ihn. Montiert auf meinem E-Bike, lies jedoch nach meiner Meinung die Sicherheit einige Fragen offen. Bei einem breiten Gepäckträger konnte der Rahmen nicht mittig montiert werden, da nur ein Schieber am Rahmen beweglich ist. Der Korb steht in diesem Rahmen….okay, aber dann nur 2 einfache Klettverschlüsse, die auf Dauer ausleiern und nicht mehr halten. Dann sehe ich meinen kleinen Hund darin, mit der mangelhaften Sicherheit des Korbes und bekomme wirklich Angst, dass mein Hund mit samt dem Korb fliegen geht. Ich bin da sehr sehr unsicher, ob ich meinen Hund da wirklich reinsetzen kann……. Schade ist auch, dass es für diesen Korb kein Regenverdeck gibt. Dies bekommt man, wenn man Glück hat nur für den Front Korb. Für doch rund 80,00€ hätte ich von der Sicherheit und dem Zubehör mehr erwartet. SchadeMiku & Toga

I have had this trailer for 8 years now. I use it for my dachshunds. One of them has passed away, but she was basically handicapped from joint problems. She loved going for a bike ride in this, and I love how it is also a stroller, too. We travel with this trailer as well, and it’s simple to take apart and put together. Now I’m going to purchase the smaller trailer since I only have one dachshund now, and she’s older. I take it on our walks and she is protected from other dogs and lets me know when she wants out to walk.Wilkyway

Just received this product today through chewy today, very easy and straight forward putting together. If I have one thing to say and wish it had would be the top is a solid piece, wish it had the option of the solid and breathable netting like on the front. I feel it will help when helping dogs get use to the trailer. You can have all the openings closed but still have views, smells and wind coming through, or close it off for some shade… just a thought and why it didn't get 5 stars off the bat.Jgrant

We did a lot of research before purchasing this item and I'm glad we did. We've been very happy with it. It is easy to maneuver, the brake is helpful, and it is easy to convert back and forth from stroller to bike trailer. There are plenty of windows for our dog to enjoy the view, and he loves sitting with his head sticking out of the top. It is easy for him to get in and out. I highly recommend this product!Petmom55

This trailer is very spacious for my corgis. Despite their short height, they can see out the windows. They didn't seem to get any motion sickness and the zippers seem durable. Some of the seams of the fabric had threads coming out fresh out of the box. I'm hoping it lasts. I wish it came with a rain cover being that it was very pricey. I went with the XL due to the slightly larger dimensions, even though the combined weight of my dogs would've been under 75 lbs. The trailer goes on bumpy terrain, on grass and over hills just fine.Jessica

Went on a hike with a group of friends and let me tell you… carried 80+ lb husky (Bandit) in this bad boy and it was light weight! Bandit was a little nervous at first, but by the end of the hike he was taking a nap and would not get out!!! Highly recommend!Joana R.

This dog trailer is amazing! My dog loves riding in it. We thought she would be nervous b/c she is a pretty timid dog but she got right in. Now that she knows it means she can go with us everywhere, she loves it even more. It is super easy to set up too! The one thing is I wish it came with a soft padded bed. I know you can buy one but for $400 it seems like it should come with the bed. Our dog is a border collie mix ~ 32lbs and she fits in the regular size perfectly.Jessd

I have this basket in my closet in my room, l use to put it on my New X-Treme Sedona 48 Volt Blue Ele4ctric Bicycle The clips worked out fine, but after awhile when l was going to work this basket fell right of the back l didn`t discover it until l was at work for three hours, after that l went back to go and look for it, then l found it. The only thing they ought to do is make this a galvanized steel basket with my stronger clamps on it so the basket can stay on the bicycle, and not have them rust after awhile, that`s about the only two things about it otherwise it`s a pretty good basket.Customer

The basket fits on my bike securely. I mounted it on the rear rack. Easy to remove. My dog is a little too big to ride in the basket.Robert O.

I bought this to carry my small 11 lb dog thinking he would fit. Unless he lies down flat the bars that clip and lock the top in place crush him. The basket itself is actually fine and will be useful to safely carry items, and I really like that it can be taken off the rear rack easily – just not putting my dog in here.Kevin

I bought the large trailer and was very excited when my husband put it together, the trailer is well made, a little bit bulky and slightly heavy, it take a lot of room and difficult to transport around in the car. It takes up the whole back of my SUV. The wheel is not plastic but actually made out of norm tire rubber. It can easily hold more than one pet ( up to 100lbs) however the mesh is easily tear by my 10lb dog and the stitches around the zipper unravel real easy. I would give it a 5 stars if the mesh was better quality and the sewing around the zipper is more studier. For those who take their pets and don't care about contain him/her and like to have the mesh open then this trailer is for you.riverside

The trailer is all and more than what I expected! My dogs love it! I have four dogs, two ride in trailer & the other two ride in the big basket in the back of my trike I bought from Walmart. I had to modify the way the trailer hooked up to the back of the trike purchased clamps and drilled a hole in trailer bar and we were off to the dog park!
