I have a pretty picky kitty when it comes to carriers. He does not like hard plastic or metal bars. I got this Sherpa® Travel Original Deluxe™ Airline Approved Pet Carrier for up to 22 pounds to try and see if he liked it. I use it mainly for trips to the vet or visiting friends. It comes folded up (so you can store it under a bed easily) but is easy to fold out and put together. It comes with a stability board and faux lambswool liner that easily attach to the bottom with hook and loop strips. Also included is a shoulder strap. It has two openings: one of the top and one at the end. Both has zippers that lock. So kitty cannot escape. The is one small pocket on the back that could hold papers, or small toys or treats. Mesh sides provide plenty of light and air so kitty does not feel contained. I left my carrier out on the floor for him to investigate. He eventually went in and lay down. I did a test run just over to a friends house in my car. The carrier fit easily on my backseat. I was able to loop the shoulder strap over the headrest and also put the seat belt through the luggage band located on the rear side of the carrier. Kitty rode safely and for the most part, happy. He lay down and did not repeatedly circle. I love that the liner comes and out and is washable and that the entire carrier is washable. I love that the carrier is lightweight as Kitty weighs almost 20 pounds. I love that this carrier can be wedged into tighter spaces as it has a flexible frame.daisymae9624
I initially really liked this product. Its lightweight easy to carry. I kept it in my cat's comfort zone so he wouldn't be intimidated by it and he enjoyed laying in it and he relaxed quietly when being carried around. However it only took one 15 minute ride to the vet before this 11mo old cat became nervous and ripped it open at the seam. The hole was big enough to stick its head through and would have only gotten larger it I wasn't holding it shut (while driving). The product was listed for pets up to 16 pounds and my cat was not that big. The product does promote a 1 year warranty, however fine print states ***Worldwise will not accept the return of a bag that has carried an animal (yes you read that correct). SHERPA warranty covers manufacturing defects only. Pet damage of any kind is NOT covered under warrant. A copy of the original sales receipt is required to submit a SHERPA warranty claim.furbabiesSandO
I purchased two of these Original Sherpa bags over 20 years ago and have used them until just recently. My kitty passed away and i just got two new kittens, so decided to buy two more of these bags new and donate the old originals, although there was nothing at all wrong with them. Just thought it was time to buy new. The old ones lasted many years of traveling every month on planes, in cars, hotels, and definitely got more use than the average pet I’m sure! They held up all these years without even a rip or tear, even being shoved underneath airplane seats for years! HOWEVER, I wish I did not get rid of them. The new ones I just purchased do NOT by any means measure up to the old ones unfortunately. The saying holds true, that they don’t make things like they used to! The quality of this bag has gone way downhill since the ones I purchased many years ago! I cannot see these lasting anywhere near as long as my old ones. They are making them very cheaply now, and they did away with the extra compartment that was in between the back zippered one and the bag. There was another wide compartment about one inch wide, which was so convenient. I used to put my kitties food, dishes, and treats in there. It was perfect for travel! They unfortunately omitted that compartment now. The old ones also came with the luggage tag attached which identifies your pets name, owners name, and contact information. I got this for a ~60lbs. labrador retriever and he seems to love it. Big enough on the inside for him to stand, turn around, and lay comfortably. It's sturdy, but not so heavy that it doesn't move around a little bit when he changes positions. It was easy enough to put together. A couple of the plastic screws didn't seem to have the ends filed off all the way (hard to describe but basically instead of a flat end, the plastic stuck out a little extra on one side instead of being flat across), which made them harder to fit straight through the holes in assembly. Fortunately, they send a few extra, so I had enough that were straight enough to put the crate together. Also, just be aware of the plastic bottom – I ran my hand across the bottom to clean it before putting it together and scraped my hand on a piece of plastic that stuck up a little (it was like a little ring manufacturing imprint). I filed it down before letting my dog in so he wouldn't get scraped on it, but just something to be on the look out for.Labbadabbadoo
The sizing recommendation by the manufacturer seems to be off. Dimensions are not the actual dimensions if you were to take a measuring tape and measure yourself. For my 55 lb border collie mix who sits at 27 inches tall and stands at 37 inches long from nose to base of tail a large would not fit. I ordered the XX Large and that is a way better fit where she can actually sit without being hunched over. This was purchased for air travel as well so I want her to be as comfortable as possible. The material seems relatively durable but it did arrive with a large crack so I will be exchanging. Compared to the Petmate Sky Kennel, this kennel seemed a little bit thinner in material and not as study. However, I order a Sky Kennel in a size Large so perhaps a sizing difference might have affected this. My GSD pup is crate trained. I purchased my first PetMate plastic crate in 2004 and never had an issue. When my GSD got too big for his wire kennel, I upgraded the size and got a PetMate Ultra (for its airline approved status). For three solid nights and any day time crate use highly distressed my dog. No one in the house slept. He was quite agitated (barking, clawing at the crate bottom, etc). He could not sleep or lay down in the crate. On the fourth night, I put him in the crate with the same result. Ten minutes later, I took out the old 2004 crate (flat bottom, no injection mold markers) and popped him in it. He sat down and gave the biggest sigh. I finally understood he had been in distress because of the new crate. On inspection, I discovered these round things under the bottom, pressed into them with my forearms and immediately felt the pressure points/pain. Who thought this design was a good idea? Did PetMate even try it? I beg designers to sit in it, lie down in it, press their forearms on to these circle things. Question your motives. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a cheap excuse and terrible quality. I’ll be cross-posting this comment on multiple pet store sites. I’m so unimpressed with this design. The incredible distress my dog endured because of shoddy design is unacceptable. PetMate needs to do better for the pets you aim to help. PetMax shouldn’t sell this product; they should ensure the pets they serve do not experience stress or injury.Ginn

I was a little skeptical about how this would work, but it turned out to be a great purchase! I started out training our small dog to sit inside with the top flap unzipped. I fed him a treat and then released him after a few minutes. Within a few days, he was asking to be put in . Then we started short trips around the house, wheeling it like a suitcase and slipping him a treat and praise every few minutes.he caught on right away and liked how cozy and secure he felt. The only improvement to be made is that when the weather is cold or wet, the lower mesh secrions allow moisture in, splash up from the wheels. I cut the end off a stretchy flannel pillowcase, and pulled it over the whole bag, rolling down the top part so my dog could could see out , but covering the lower half . This worked great! I bought this carrier for my cat 10 years ago. I still use it anytime I travel weather it's in the car on a plane on a bus or on a train. The soft carrier I got is very high quality. Fluffy first sniffed at it, then he (drama queen) was upset at me for something and went in and refused to budge. Later he came out all warm and toasty, so it is his fav hang out, even tho it tips. I think he tips it on purpose. Easy to put together, just zips together! Looks kinda like a big hat box from the 60's. He tried to unzip it, clever boy, but not this one. Two openings, so if he's drama queening it up I can just open the top and pop him in, he can stand up in it, lay down, curl up, stretch out. He loves the Thinsilate insulation, but this is only for winter, Thinsilate keeps stuff warm better than cool. He has a fully ventilated summer backpack/roller. I haven't tried the method described for car travel yet. His only complaint was after I put the rollers on the bottom was hard and lumpy, started to take off like that and my drama queen howled until I put a folded throw and sham to break the hardness, a small pillow would do the same. I buy the $2.50 throws out of the bin and put them into a couple of shams that don't match anything. The pet carrier is not a crate, it is pretty delicate compared to the hard-sided pet crates. With respect and care I expect this to last several years.
I purchased this for my 10 lb puppy. She had plenty of room to stand, turn, and stretch while inside. Even better, I think it will still be a good size when she is full grown at 15-17 lbs. I took this on a long roundtrip journey involving several train changes, a bus ride, and Ubers. It is very lightweight and functions well both when rolled or carried by the shoulder strap. It is by far the best I've seen (this is the 4th pet carrier I ordered in search of the perfect one) in terms of design and material quality. The only problem is the strap inside the case, the one that can be clipped to a pet collar, was already coming loose before we even used it once. Then halfway through the trip, one of the zipper pullers on the top flap came right off the zipper tracks, followed by the 2nd puller a few days later even though I tried to be extra gentle. Now the whole top flap is coming unsewn. But I love this case so much I have ordered another, hoping the sewing quality was just a fluke. If the 2nd one holds ups, I will give it 5 stars.Pug Lover

I decided not to buy this item from this retailer. IF Petco were to actually care about their customers, they would assign someone to answer customer questions, rather than to just flagrantly ignore everything! If they don't care enough about you BEFORE you spend $100 bucks, they certainly won't care about you AFTER the sale, when they have YOUR hard-earned money in their hot little hands! I know you won't publish this because it counts as "criticism"…but if no one speaks up for fear of being "cancelled"…it hurts both the buyer & the retailer…the buyer feels ignored & the retailer never hears the "truth" or "customers opinion" ….if you don't know that there's a problem affecting sales, you can't possibly FIX the problem to BOOST sales! My dog (8 pound Yorkie) loves this carrier. He can lay down comfortably and sit if want to. It is well ventilated, and comes with a soft pad. What I like most about is that it is a carrier with a somewhat firm structure. It comes fold and you can totally use it and fold it again, but I prefer to store it open so it keeps the shape so that when my dog enters the top is not bend and he can have the whole space.josy53josy

I just received this carrier for my 8-9 lb dog and it was too small so I measured it and found the length was only 14" long but the description said 16" long. The width and height seemed to be close to what was advertised. It's a nice bag and I need an Airline Approved carrier. This is a very large kennel. It's perfect for a German Shepherd, Husky, Lab size dog etc. Very easy to assemble. The door works flawlessly. I got this because I have 2 senior dogs a Retriever and a Collie mix and needed something to secure them in the back of my suv when taking them to the vet or groomer. I found that it is much safer to transport them this way than to let them be on the back seat unsecured. I finally have the right size kennel to do so. This is a perfect kennel for dogs like labs/retrievers. There's enough room for most dogs that size to stand up. I do wish these kinds of kennels had a few extra slots on the bottom so it wasn't quite so dark. It's very easy to put together. Wow this is exactly what I needed for my favorite fur baby on the planet. It was so easy to put together by myself without any issues. It’s thick sturdy plastic that will last years even decades. My doggy loves to get in and lay down even when we’re not traveling. flying my 2 kitties cargo was an ordeal that i absolutely DO NOT EVER want to go through again.(im sure it wasnt even that bad for them, but it was terrible for me!) ultimately though, it had to be done. ive never shipped/flown a pet before so this all began with a search for a crate. petmate skykennel was the obvious choice. even though they're cats, my boys are big fellas. i went with the medium size so they'd have extra room. the crates were exactly what i needed. only thing i will say is, i did order an extra set of all-metal bolts/fasteners (from amazon); the ones that come with the crates are ok, but the overruling word on pet cargo travel seems to be all-metal is required. maybe its just required for international flights? either way i ordered a set. glad i bought ONLY that from amazon, though!i was about to buy the crates from there too, then i thought hmmm maybe someplace else had them at a better price…and yep… "someplace else" sure did! I did a lot of research before we decided to by the extra large Petmate dog crate. We currently have the "Giant" dog crate in a bedroom for our mixed malamute–but we have to disassemble it to take it out of the room. We need the dog crate for when we take our dog camping. The last time we took him camping, on the last day, we left him in our cabin for a few hours. When we came back, he had tore the curtain and blinds apart on two different windows. We spent hours trying to get new blinds and I had to sew the curtains. So, this crate in mandatory if our dog is going camping again! We currently have a fifth wheel trailer that we camp in. Also, the metal dog crates–our dog can get right out of them using his body!Diane
While certainly not inexpensive, it far outprices the alternative for a crate that meets all the requirements for airline travel for my German Shepherd. Years ago I also used to travel with my Dalmatian and I used the Petmate Sky Kennel then. Both dogs felt comfortable in the kennel at home and so having to step into it to be loaded on a plane was not a struggle. The only negative is the food/water tray. It's for a rabbit, not a 90 pound German Shepherd, but that's any easy fix for me, but the manufacturer should reconsider.

This is a well built, high quality soft sided and airline approved kennel! We used it to fly Delta with my 18 pound male tabby. Delta put us in an aisle seat due to the space under the seat in front of you is higher allowing for a bigger kennel. He had room to turn around and was comfortable for the 3.5 hour flight (talk to your vet about sedation meds, they helped our very nervous guy relax)! The floor pad of the kennel is removable in case of accidents. Inside of the bottom is also reenforced with a wooden board for added strength as well as comfort so the pets are carried evenly. Mr. Peanut's company takes the time to think about the comfort of your pet and it shows in their product. Will definitely buy again if needed but it seems like this one will last us a while!Sara K.

I absolutely love this bag and the small size. I have used both sizes. With the small I have never been questioned from anyone about the dimensions when checking in and I have flown southwest, jetblue, frontier, delta. With the large I have flown southwest, delta, and American. However American gave me an issue on my return flight but in my opinion the check in lady was in a bad mood and needed to take it out on someone because everyone else behind the counter said it was fine.ashley .l
This is a great carrier of very high quality craftmanship. I have two dogs that are about 5 lbs each and this works perfect for carrying them to the vet, to the boat, and for travel. With the divider zipped up, the space on each side is just big enough for them to lay down. I would not leave them in it for long periods of time – it is a carrier and not a crate or kennel.Chris
