I had a small sturdy table made to use this ramp along side my bed, and used velcro to secure the ramp lip to the table. So far neither of my dogs prefer using it, although both will use it when 'treat bribed'. Mainly because they're used to me picking them up. However, my aged cat loves to use it. In time and with patience all of my babies will use it. Meanwhile it's lightweight portability will make traveling with my babies for much easier. I have a senior dog that is having difficulty with stairs. I have several spots where a ramp is needed, with different rises, so I bought several ramps from several companies to see what would work best. My primary concern was length of ramp versus weight of ramp, as I have higher rises and in some spots I need to run several ramps with a landing pad in between. Discount ramps arrived the fastest. When they say lightweight, they mean it. It is not designed for anything other than a dog. It is very lightweight, which was what I was looking for because it will need to be set up and taken down repeatedly. However the design of the ramp basically has 3 aluminum rails that are the bottom edge supports and a center rail which run the length of the ramp, with a sheet of aluminum laid over the 3 rails and hinges in the center. The hinges don't relax to allow the ramp to go completely flat, so the ramp has a little bit of "spring" to it in the center. Also, because of my setup, a human has to step on the ramp in order to open and go in and out of the door. I am only 150 pounds, well under the weight capacity of the ramp, and I can walk on it without it breaking, but I can feel the sag of the sheet aluminum in between each of the rails where there is no support. It is holding with no issues, but I don't know how it will hold up over time. Also, one of the rivets in the center by the hinges popped the first time it was used, straight out of the box. One of my other dogs ran up the ramp and the "spring" in the hinge area seemed to be the cause of the rivet to pop as the dog caused the ramp to bounce slightly as it ran up the ramp. The ramp has been in use for 2 weeks now and no other issues have arisen. The other ramps I ordered from other companies have arrived and they are heavier, longer, and more durable, but are also not as easy to shift around. I have taken this ramp in the vehicle, since it is so lightweight, and it works well resting on the bumper of the SUV. Overall, it is an adequate ramp if lightweight is the primary feature you are looking for. It is the least expensive ramp I ordered, so the price is reflective of the sturdiness of the ramp.Pamela K.
We purchased the ramp for a large, tri-pawed dog who is sometimes afraid to go down a set of steps outdoors, and who has recently hurt his remaining back leg. The no-slip walkway was very good, BUT had to return because our 12 year old dog (90 lbs) was not willing to go that high; it was for the rear of 2019 subaru outback, seemed good quality. I got this ramp for my 10 year old dachshund rescue dog to use indoors on a short set of steps that lead to the outside door. (Just for steps). I am happy with the quality and there was nothing to assemble. Although the surface has a slight roughness, it is still too slippery for Lucy – she sort of slid down the last foot or so. I am going to cover it with carpeting using double sided carpet tape which i feel with solve the problem. Also because we are using the ramp indoors on steps I will need to secure the top edge to the landing. After that I think it will be quite adequate for her. She has some back issues and I do not want her straining herself up and down steps. My jeep is 22" high and i got this ramp for my 100lb rottweiler who has both his knees operated. This ramp is perfect. My dog goes in and out of my car with no issues. This is 60" long ramp which gives it a 22 degree angle of inclination for the ramp. 18 to 22 degree is recommended for dog ramps. It also has strap to attach the end of the car. I have to use old sweats on the ramp while my dog goes up to make it less slippery. But that not big deal. Its light weight and folds which are best the features. Sturdy and easy to put together. My puppies loved chewing the bottom step. They did a lot of damage so if you have chewers you will want to add a step protector or do something proactive. I also used my rechargeable Dyson to vacuum, don’t. The material is not designed for strong suction. It will stay looking great if you use a hand broom to sweep. I just purchased two more, we have four little dogs. It is very bad for small dogs to jump off furniture. I really like it for my little girl, a 5 1/2 lb YorkiePoo. She can zip up to the bed in a flash, that is great for this older mom to not have to get out of bed to lift her up when she simply must get up! She often remembers she left a chew bone on the floor in the living room and she really, really needs to go back to get it for bed! My only complaint is the degree of slant is much too short for her to go back down. She cannot get her feet to the next step going down before she is tumbling down head first, because the next steps are steep with a narrow portion of the next step down not giving enough room for the back of her body to get on. I hope I am making sense, she is afraid after several tumbles all the way down. It is worrisome because to get down, she has to make a big leap off the bed. It is a big jump for a little one to make, I constantly worry that she will fracture something. That is my one and only complaint, I do like the stairs, I would buy it again, hoping one day we might find that problem resolved. My wife just purchased these stairs and I assembled them this afternoon and the dog they are for figured out in just a couple of minutes how to use them, of course it took some treats as a bribe. No matter what others say if you follow the assembly instructions and properly tighten the fasteners they are as solid as the perverbial rock. The cover also fits properly but tightly. You can't just pull it, on you have to walk it on starting at the top and working down the steps and repeating till it's in place. Looking at the ends of the connecting rods and the matching holes in the stair end brackets it appears there should be separate left and right pieces. Even so they assemble with no problems, you may have to tap the stair treads down for the screw holes to line up. One thing the instructions missed was placing the sticky pads on the bottom corners.Shredd
