I bought it for my old dog's house, I put a sheepskin in there but it still needed more heat, This worked perfectly in our outdoor dog house. At -15°C the inside of the house was 0°C. We mounted it on the ceiling which was at a 75° angle and it worked perfectly. This heater on Low gets very hot to the touch. I would not mount it on the side of a dog house where a dog could fall asleep on it. I bought a remote digital thermometer so I could monitor the temperature in there. It gave me such peace of mind knowing my old girl was warm and safe. PS, use sheepskins in the dog's house, the skin part prevents moisture from passing through into their bodies!LHunt

Caution: The failure mode of this item may set your house on fire. I have several of these that I use indoors on either a brick fireplace hearth or concrete floor. They have only been used a few months during winter time for three years now. Just by chance I felt the heat coming off one of them and immediately yanked the plug out of the socket- it was about to go nuclear as in a total melt-down. Please see attached photos showing the melted state of that unit. It was very hot to the touch and the faux sheepskin cover was stuck to it in spots– it was that hot. This is a very uncomfortable and alarming situation. My solution was both of them went out in the trash. The pets will need to use sunshine or our laps to keep warm. Otherwise, they did work nice and the pets loved the heat provided. I just want to make sure they also have a house to live in.W.
I wasn't satisfied with how hot this heating pad got but it did work, it just doesn't get that warm. I tested it with pillows and it got warm and then I laid on it for a couple minutes and didn't get much warmer. I don't know if it will keep my dog warm enough or not. Hopefully it will. It's a hard mat so it's not gonna be comfy. I took the cloth piece that goes over it off because my dog would chew it up in one night more than likely. It's overpriced if you ask me. Doesn't feel very well made. Kind of flimsy. Oh well, hopefully it'll help keep my dog a little warmer on these cold nights in Kentucky. I bought the identical heating pad in 2005 for my desert tortoise. I am to blame for it not continuing to work after almost 17 years because I carelessly got it wet near the cord entrance while washing down the tortoise house. My 75 year old tortoise that has been in the family for well over 50 years could easily live another 25 years. With proper care, I know the heating pad will last.

The padded mat itself is nice but the heating pad inside is QUITE SMALL. The pad is about 1/3 the width of the mat and 1 width of the pad is the amount of space left on each end in the padding case around the pad. I would not buy this product again. I was stupid enough to buy three of them in the first place. When the cats can find a warm spot, I guess they like it. It would take quite a bit of investigating for them to locate it, though. This heating pad placed inside isn't large enough for the mat and therefore is even less adequate if you thought you were going to use it for cold weather (like in a garage). I am very disappointed in my purchase of three of these mats. For the size of the heating pad encased in the mat, this product is FAR TOO EXPENSIVE. The company really skimped when they chose to include such a tiny heating pad within the mat casing. 🙁Jena

I received my new bed for my little girl , Hope , a papillion mix breed about 7 lbs. When I opened the box and put it on the floor for her , she was so excited and hopped over the side to get in it. The bed is the large size so she has plenty of room to stretch out and lay however she wants to. I thought this bed looked great on the site but upon getting it and letting my little gal sleep in it it turns out that its really a DISASTER. Let me explain. The cushion in the bed does not cover the entire floor of the bed and when she gets in it gets pushed to the back and she ends up sleeping in a "crevice" and falls to the bottom of the bed. This de-icer (250 watt) works great. I use a 16 gallon water tub and this keeps it from freezing. Here in AZ, we don't usually get frigid temps – only in the 20's, but a few nights in the teens – and this has worked great. Our days do warm up so ice melts during the day most of the time, so I haven't experienced constantly frigid temps. However, it can get cold at night I am very pleased. It turns on when needed, and doesn't warm up when not needed. I immediately removed the floater and it sinks to the bottom where my horse can't reach it. These heaters work very well in a 30 gal. tank at temperatures in the teens. I love the fact that I'm not paying to run 1500 watt heaters. The cord clip that attaches to the side of the tank is brilliant. Normally I would have to install a small clamp and then be concerned that my horses would find the sharp end of the screw. No longer.I elected to take the the top cage off and submerse the heaters rather than let them float. My horse like to play with anything I leave around. The heaters are so light that the electrical cord tends to tilt the heater off its base at the bottom of the tank. This is our 3rd pet bed warmer from KH. We had an extra large one for our senior Lab who had chronic arthritis. We put it right on top of his orthopedic bed and he loved it. I had the previous version of this pet bed warmer for over 5 years. This newer version seems to be a better quality and expect that it will last a long time also. I think it's great. We have a feral and we did not want to get something that had to be plugged in for safety reasons. I'd say it lasts 5-6 hours (not 12 like stated) and when heating it up it smells like it's burning (but it isn't). The smell is definitely off-putting but I think it's still a great product if you're concerned about plug-ins.
Perfect solution to keep our outdoor cat warm. We have cats inside, but our one boy has to stay outside because he 'hates cats', but loves people. So, we have an outdoor cat enclosure with two feral cat houses, one of which he sleeps in, and the other for feeding area. This states on the pack that it keeps warm up to 12 hours, when in fact mine only kept warm between 4 – 6 hours and only just luke warm. I only covered it with a thin tea towel and the warmth did not come through enough to have any effect. Plus once it starts to harden again it is very uncomfortable for my kitten. I was worried that the bed might be too small for our dog, but when she wants to stretch out, the sides are soft enough that they just fold down. She loves curling up tightly in it or resting her head on the edge. She's spent more time in this bed than any I've own previously. Great price for a great bed. Highly recommended. The inside is quite textured, so I'm not sure how easy it will be to clean, but the inside is a beige color so I don't think it'll show dirt too badly.SR
We have a senior cat that has been having a hard time this winter, and wanted something that wasn't a fire risk but worked to keep him warmer than just a regular blanket. This works!! Okay, this has the weirdest feel ever. Like, soft yet sticks to your hands if you have any dry skin. I use this in my dogs crate and it's a weird perfect fit. The sides do NOT stay up, becomes a sort of flat bed if it's not propped in a corner. Other than that, it is so. hard. to. clean! You need to wash the entire thing for one accident and the inside corners are so hard to get to. Overall, not bad enough to return, but not good enough to buy again.K

My 5lb maltese, who is 15 years old, is in love with this. We placed it under her bed cover and turned it on. After checking that it only rose to the gentle warmth of dog body temperature, we placed her on the bed. This is a large bed which she shares with other dogs. They usual sleep wherever on the bed. The old girl has no claimed ownership of that section of the bed heated by this mat. The bed is well construction and just what we needed for our cat. However, the bottom pad, which is very nice, made it difficult for our large car to get into once we put the pet heating element in the bed. We solved the problem by putting the pad under the bed, inserting the pet heating element in the bed (after I covered it with a with a soft, heavy duty material). The cat loves the low level heat and spends hours in his bed as the winter in our area is one of the coldest in years. To keep the bed stable when putting the pad under the bed, we put the bed in a low cardboard box which keeps it from sliding off the pad. Although I'm not a 'verified purchaser' on the Petco site, I have had this bed for my 10lb chihuahua — purchased directly from K&H and it's still working strong. Some people are reviewing that the bed doesn't get warm. Keep in mind, the bed is weight sensitive, and won't heat up until there is weight on it — so putting your hand on it to check will not produce heat until your furbaby actually lays on it. Others question how to 'wrap' it. I place a large mid-weight blanket on his bed — with one half covering the bottom of the bed, and the other half hanging over the side. I then place the bed warmer on the blanket, then fold/flip the remaining part of the blanket over the warmer (like a taco) then tuck it in around the edges so the bed warmer never touches or gets exposed to his skin (or his bed itself, it is wrapped fully in the blanket. You may have to experiment with different blanket weights and thicknesses to find one that you feel produces the 'right' amount of heat for your pet). On super cold days, it's fun to watch him get on his bed, and within minutes of it warming up he has 'slits for eyes' b/c he's so cozy and comfy. 🙂 2022/2023 winter will be his 4th year of using this mat, and it has been great to keep my little guy warm and toasty during cold Ohio winters.pancho36

This is the best item I’ve bought for my dog in a long time. I live in Maine and it gets cool here. I like to sleep with the heat down to 58. As my dog has gotten a little older I started worrying if he was cold in his bed (he has 5 ultra soft blankets to nest in:joy:). So I ordered the plush pad, tossed it in his bed, and he LOVES IT! It has a nice soft cover which is removable and washable. It only carries the heat on 13 watts. You just plug it in. It takes about 15-20 minutes to slightly warm up then as the dog lays on the pad, it gets nice and toasty. Never hot. And I never have to worry about leaving it plugged in. Going down into the single digits tonight but my dog will be as snug as a bug in a rug. A great product. Thank you K&H.
I bought one of these through Amazon recently. I already own the Thermo-Kitty Heated Cat Bed, which my cat loves. So this was intended to place on the bed to give him a warm place to sleep. I decided to test the unit, and boy, was I glad I did. I plugged it in and placed a pillow on top, coming back 20-30 minutes later. It seemed beyond warm – almost hot. So I decided to take the test a step further by placing a thermometer between the pillow and pad. Checking 30 minutes later, I read 130 degrees, and it felt decidedly hot to the touch. I was hoping for something like the other bed, which offers gentle warmth. I didn't want to cook my cat! Attempts to reach the company went unanswered, so I've returned it. I had forgotten we had this for the catbed of our 20+ year old Burmese for the last couple years before she died. I have some new chicks and didn't want the danger of a heat lamp inside. I use a basic 60-watt in a clamp lamp in the cage during the day, but didn't want to run it all night. I found the snuggle safe and pulled it out. it's in a box at the back of the cage, with shredded bedding over it. I put them inside the box and close a flap over the door for the night and turn out the light. They stop peeping and settle right in to sleep. I love that the snuggle safe will stay warm longer than the jars of water I was heating up before, and I don't have to worry about electricity and fires overnight when no one's around to keep an eye on them. No cords needed. Heats beautifully in microwave and be sure you READ the instructions provided. At 5 minutes in my microwave, the heating pad gets hot!! Additionally I wrap it in a small towel and put it under my dogs bed so there is a third layer between him and the heater. My Border Collie stays warm in his outdoor dogaloo house with a carpeted floor and a couple of extra blankets around him. This is the best invention for keeping your fur baby warm on a cold night! The product has performed well at below zero temperatures as the cats choose to stay inside their insulated shelters when the weather is severe. This is the second year on the first purchases.
