This kennel is strong. The tie-down holes, one per corner, go through both the top half and the bottom half of the kennel, which is an excellent improvement over no tie down holes. Another improvement over the old version is that water cannot collect on top since there are no bowl-like indentations on the top. The door is heavy construction, and can be mounted as Left or Right swing. I put the kennel on the passenger's side of the vehicle so that I can use the empty space behind the driver for carrying a jug of water, leashes, and other stuff. The advertised length is 40", but be aware that the usable length or "inside" length is 33". This is adequate if your dog is 33" or less from the top of the tail to the end of his front nails, while lying in the "sphinx" position. ONE CON: There are no drainage holes in the bottom half. I plan to drill my own (well, get the hubby to do it). A suggestion for the manufacturer: Make a Truck Version of the kennel. It would be the same as this except for two changes: (1) Add drain holes, and (2) Make the top rear panel (opposite the door) from transparent acrylic, so the driver can see through it. This would be a safety feature, as the blind spot would be reduced.Karen

My GSD pup is crate trained. I purchased my first PetMate plastic crate in 2004 and never had an issue. When my GSD got too big for his wire kennel, I upgraded the size and got a PetMate Ultra (for its airline approved status). For three solid nights and any day time crate use highly distressed my dog. No one in the house slept. He was quite agitated (barking, clawing at the crate bottom, etc). He could not sleep or lay down in the crate. On the fourth night, I put him in the crate with the same result. Ten minutes later, I took out the old 2004 crate (flat bottom, no injection mold markers) and popped him in it. He sat down and gave the biggest sigh. I finally understood he had been in distress because of the new crate. On inspection, I discovered these round things under the bottom, pressed into them with my forearms and immediately felt the pressure points/pain. Who thought this design was a good idea? Did PetMate even try it? I beg designers to sit in it, lie down in it, press their forearms on to these circle things. Question your motives. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a cheap excuse and terrible quality. I’ll be cross-posting this comment on multiple pet store sites. I’m so unimpressed with this design. The incredible distress my dog endured because of shoddy design is unacceptable. PetMate needs to do better for the pets you aim to help. PetMax shouldn’t sell this product; they should ensure the pets they serve do not experience stress or injury.Ginn
The plastic has gotten more brittle than it used to be. Already has stress marks on corners and not even used. The sky kennels I have from 20 years ago are still functioning. I used this for my cat to travel overseas. The only issue I had was finding a place to zip tie the door closed. I tried to go through the peg holes but they were too tight and it ended up making it so I couldn't properly shut the door. My cat had plenty of room in her carrier to move around and lay down. The structure held up well for the trip as we had one rough landing and one not as smooth as I would have liked landing.
These cages are the absolute weakness and flimsy cages. I paid 100 for medium and 140 for xl. My five month old Dutch shepherd busts out of this cage. My full grown male kicks the door down like it’s knocking over my toddler. Flimsy weak and way over priced. Totally not worth the money.Crap cages

Putting this together – I would say that the plastic is a good construction, the clasps and screws are great, and the metal bars for the windows look to be a decent quality. They ship you extra clips and screws in case you have a problem. I personally don't like the wheels (on any crate), so I'll leave those off and the pet bowl might be okay if I was sending the dog via airplane. The Large size isn't very large in my opinion. A dog should be able to stand up, turn around and lay down. I think this crate is more like a 50 pound max than 75. My 10 week old Golden Female Retriever will likely outgrow this kennel in 6 months and be in that weight range. In a way I'd like to exchange it for a bigger one.RichH

The 4 way locking mechanism on the door of this kennel has repeatedly failed. The first time it broke they offered me a replacement door. The second time they said "we already offered you a one time replacement. Let me se if we have a door available for you to purchase." A $300 kennel should last at least the lifetime of one dog. Two years ago we purchased this carrier for transporting our cats. After only a year the top split. The handle was useless. Another option was to use the shoulder harness. The rings broke through the plastic. A 16 pound cat could not possibly be the reason this product failed. I give this product a rating of zero. It has 2 tiny matching holes on the top and bottom. It would be great if they supplied a fastener. BUT IT CAN EASILY BE MADE STURDY AND SECURE FOR PET SAFETY – WITHOUT FEAR OF COMING APART. (Especially if the pet is rambunctious!) I used small zip ties – very inexpensive, that I already had. I trimmed the ends after putting them on the back sides. The door in the front is secured at top – 2 and bottom – 2. Plus you can open it from either right side or left. It has plenty of openings at the top of the carrier for air to circulate. I definitely would recommend this product. "Alice," the kitten loves it. I leave the door open, and she goes in there during the day and sleeps on her towel. Great sturdy carrier,bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. Sturdily made plastic. I use it to carry for my 9 lbs cat and it can support his weight very well ,even though it could have had a luggage style handle for more comfort holding it than the recessed one it has but no biggie. Also even thought it is sturdy and pieces fit well together I would recommend you tie up some zipper cable ties on key areas where the two halves meet and close to where the gray little pieces go, to avoid the unions popping open and falling apart,just in case it stresses from the weight of the pet, that should give more reinforcement to the structure and peace of mind, not that it will happen but it could as other customers have stated. The carrier is not really that tall and long so my cat cannot stand full height or stretch full length, it is comfortable enough for him to be in on short trips or for a shorter cat (mine is very long and tall,almost 19 inches long head to base of tail).. The door is a little tricky to use since it doesn't have a hinge but you will get the hang of it, and if you just open it from one of the top knobs and leave the other closed it can even be used as a swinging door. It is utilized in our camper for our 90 pound chocolate lab. She fits well enough to lay down and it was not wrecked the first few uses, but she is crate trained. I do however believe the bottom material could've used some more reinforcement as a dog that size wont take much to make an accidental rip. This crate tucks in nicely by the bed. I had to twist the crate to get it to fit, but since it is soft sided, it was easy to do. I have 2 long haired miniature dachshunds, and they both have plenty of room and are really happy to have their blankets and sleeping space. The crate is well made and is perfect for my needs. I looked at a number of options and could not find another crate as narrow as this one. The metal door is easy to close and I was able to flip it so the door opened the direction I needed. The only negative is with the limited space, the opening radius of the door is fairly limited. Both my dogs can easily fit, but depending on the space in your unit, a larger dog might have troubles fitting through the door. This is not really a kennel, more like a pop up shelter as it will not really confine a dog or cat that wants to get out of it. I use it to create a den-like atmosphere for my dog, a go to place when we are travelling. The crate had obviously been used and returned. The metal was rusted in places and the plastic bottom tray was dirty. When I decided to return it, It was a challenge to get it back in the box. When I took it back to the store, I asked about a discount and received 15% off (the tax). I had previously bought one that was marked down by 50% because the box was damaged. I've owned dogs for the last 40 years. I've used MidWest wire crates for my last 4 dogs. This iCrate didn't disappoint. It's sturdy and and easy to put up and take down. I use them when I travel with my dogs too. My dogs only use their crates for sleeping in at night or napping in during the day. During the day, their crate doors are left open. I close the dogs in at night. I don't have an issue with my dogs trying to escape from their crates, so I can't speak to whether or not this would be sturdy enough for a dog that's determined to get out of their crate. These crates are more than sturdy enough for my miniature Schnauzer, Havanese, and Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. All three of my dogs love their MidWest iCrates, as did my previous dog! They go in them voluntarily and when told to "crate up". My only concern with the current crate I ordered is that that one of the latches isn't lined up quite right so it's a bit tight when closing the crate door. I bent it slightly and it works much better. I haven't had that issue with any of the previous MidWest crates I've used. I'm a MidWest crate fan.Eddie09
We bought this in April 2022 for our Rhodesian Ridgeback mix puppy. He was weeks old when we rescued him. He was a Parvo pup and barely survived, so rest and his own quiet space was highly recommended for recovery. We first used the divider which was great. However, as he grew, so did his strength. It definitely is not strong enough for large dogs. Even for short amounts of time. At the moment he is 6 months and 60 pounds. Thankfully he did not get out nor hurt himself! I was appalled at how much pet carriers cost in pet supply stores, so I decided to look here, and the price was much better. I have two cats and a large carrier for both of them, but most often they go to the vet one at a time, so I wanted a one-cat carrier. Possibly I should have gotten a size up from this, as it's a rather snug fit for my 10-lb kitty, but it's a lot easier to transport. Unlike my larger carrier, this one requires actual nuts and bolts to hold the top onto the bottom, so it can't be latched open from the top. The door also takes a little jiggling to lock all the way, though it opens in both directions or can be lifted out completely. The construction is quite solid, however, and it worked just fine on my last trip to the vet. Just keep in mind that it really is for SMALL pets. #sweepstakesSallie G

This is a handy and nicely made crate. This size small is the perfect size for our Chihuahua mix, or our silky terrier, or even our cat to lay in. A taller dog might not fit in very well though because the opening isn't very tall. We could easily fit a dog bed in there. All the pets were happy to check it out and seemed to be very content to lay inside the crate. I love how easy it is to fold and unfold so it really takes up hardly any space for storage or travel. I bought this carrier for a kitten that I will be picking up tomorrow. I unpacked it today and found it a bit odd that there is no handle. You can see the carrier until you completely unpackage it. There is nothing on the outside of the carrier that says whether or not there is a handle. There was not a handle shown on the packaging. The carrier will be okay while she is a small kitten. I'm not so sure about when she gets bigger. It is also a soft-sided carrier which means you really can't tuck it under your arm.skayfox

First night success! 1st experience: It was the first night we got our pup from our breeder & we were worried that it would be a tough night because the pup was use to being with his brothers and sisters. We introduced the crate that same night and our pup was drawn to it. Everyone slept great! Our pup isn't afraid to go in at all. Few things I notice that this crate does well: 1) noise of the crate is soft when the pup pushes on it rather than the typical crate sound where it creates your pup to be anxious 2) Spacing of the holes are good enough for pup to see and reward it with a treat 3) Got the mint color and it brings such a calming vibe – aesthetically pretty too. A good product The Kindtail Pawd is exactly what I wanted in a crate. I wanted something much prettier than the the wire crate, but also quite simplistic and light weight. Some other good looking crates out there are either super heavy, bulky, or have too many unnecessary features for me. I love that the Pawd is truly portable, but still quite sturdy. I appreciate that all the connecting joints of the crate were smooth and fit perfectly together, without having to force pieces together, which shows me that attention to detail was put into the design and execution. I will say that I only bought the Pawd after my dog became full crate trained, and is no longer trying to chew through and escape her area. I don't actually use it to contain her with the door (which very nicely folds completely out of the way), but only as a nice den for my dog to chill in, so I can't speak to its ability to actually keep a dog inside. Like any other plastic crate, I suspect it would not be able to withstand aggressive chewers. I think the price is reasonable.Dee T.
A miracle! When we rescued our 5-month old pup, we were told she was crate trained, but when we brought her home to a generic metal wire crate she refused to go in it let alone rest or sleep in it. She was particularly sensitive to the sound and it was a constant struggle that felt like punishment for her. We hoped the Pawd we purchased would be more appealing to her, but we never expected what actually happened. I loved the idea of this crate when I saw its description and I wasn't disappointed. When you get a small pet carrier, you generally have to figure out where to store it. They usually take up about a 1' x 1' x 1.5' space somewhere. This crate collapses to about a 1' x 1' x 5" size. It's really easy to "pop" it up and collapse it (really – I didn't even look at the instructions. It was pretty self-explanatory). There are two large, plastic clips at the front and at the back of the carrier. You just easily pinch those together (they don't require a lot of effort and are easy on the fingers), the sides lift to reveal the top of the carrier with its handle. You lift the handle and when it's all "up", you just push the ends to securely snap them to the "body" of the carrier and you're done. The gate has a knob rather than thick wires you have to pinch together. This is a sturdy crate. I have a 9-pound cat that it handles just fine. She can stand up in it with a little room to reposition herself. It's definitely not a crate I'd want to keep a dog of the same size in all day (I think they need a little more room to move around) but it's super for vet visits or car trips.ruthjs2k

Buy once, cry once. It's the longest high quality rotomolded kennel on the market. Slightly narrow but I'd rather have the narrowness than sacrifice the length. Gunners are 33 inches long, the hero is 35. Two inches might not sound like much but that's the difference between my 95lb Chesapeake being able to lie down straight or not. A similar sized dog in the largest gunner kennel would have no choice but to lie down on his side, and curl a bit. Any retriever will fit comfortably in this kennel, although they won't have a ton of sprawling room.
