This kennel looks great in your home. Itâs much more decorative than a traditional crate. And for the price of why not? Well thatâs easy. Itâs not as functional as a traditional kennel. I read reviews before buying this, and a lot of those reviews stated that their dogs tore this kennel apart. But I thought my dog shouldnât have a problem with that because she is crate trained. As a matter of fact she went into her old kennel willingly without anyone asking all of the time. It was her safe space I think. Never tried to break out. But the thing with this kennel is the material that it is made out of is weak and if youâre a pitbull, very soft. My dog chewed the bars out with ease and the fake wood was like bubblegum to her. Went together easy enough and instructions were illustrated well, but I am mechanically inclined. It may be more daunting if I was not . Biggest issue I have with this product is that there is not a provision for closing them in the nest/roost area for the night. We move the entire assembly including chickens from area to area, but must risk catching a foot if left in the screened in area, or we must catch them and move them in a cage. Another lesser issue is there is little ventilation for the nest/roost area. I plan to drill some holes in the ends of the dormers for ventilation. We also have a piece of expanded metal we slide over the opening to the lower section that we use to close them in the nest/roost area.HenMeister

This thing came in two boxes, both of which had obviously been bounced on a corner a couple times and three major parts were cracked. I called Customer Service and they wanted me to package up both boxes and they'd send me a new one and pick up the old one. Seriously? The heck with that! The "wire" on these looks like 1/2 inch hardware cloth but the gauge of the wire is half that of hardware clothe so it breaks easily and had done so in transit. This may be large enough for two standard chickens to stay out of the rain and roost in, but only if you are letting them out every day to free range in a larger area. Rather than possibly get another damaged coop and have to box up all these parts, I will use my carpentry skills to fix the broken parts. If you do get one of these, don't rely on the wire to keep predators out unless you keep it inside a more secure area. This wire was meant to keep the chickens in, not to keep predators out.kcpaull
I am happy we purchased the coop and think it will come in handy with new chicks and sick birds. We are currently using it for 1 chick and 2 peachicks. There are some cons, but think many of those can be addressed with modifications to the coop. I would not recommend the coop if you are planning on using it for more than 2 chickens and are not letting them free-range during the day. We bought this coop not too long ago. It's was fairly easy to put together but the wood is very thin and with time the wood on the ground rotted. Same with the nesting box. It's made of very thin plywood and with the hay and mess they made the bottom part of the nesting box was to first to rot out. The entire thing was rotten within a year with the rain. Also, it is NOT predator resistant at all!!!! The door within a few months was wrapped and could not be closed. The only thing I like about it was the plastic tray in the hutch part. It made it easy clean. They should have the nesting box made with the same plastic tray and pit thicker wood on the bottom of it. I am going to try to fix the bottom with 2 x 4's and then place them on cinderblocks to keep it from rotting so fast and also reinforce the entire cage to keep them safe. Needs latches on the roof and nesting box as well as fixing the door latch. I may just build another one that is better made. Pass on this one or reforce what I have mentioned from the get go. I bought 2 of these to use as bedside tables. My dogs and cats like to lay in a crate. This would would not work if you had to crate your pet to prevent destructive behavior, it would be very easy to chew through. I also like that it is plastic as I have older animals who have accidents sometimes so it will be easy to clean! Looks very nice as well! Easy to assemble but the instructions could use some work for people who dont often assemble furniture. Cute as a button. Easy to put together. However it is worthless for a truly functional chicken house. Flips easily when moving. The wire can easily pushed off of the frame any predator could be in this coop in seconds. The first time one of the chickens landed on the plastic top it completely fell thru. latches are flimsy. Nice size run suitable for 4 large hens, or 6 bantams to have plenty of room. A generous amount of mesh is supplied and the instructions are clear, we had no issues constructing it. We did have to buy 200 more cable ties as the ones supplied were not sufficient or suitably strong enough to secure the mesh but that was the only issue. The tarpaulin isn't very sturdy and we will be lucky if it lasts one winter, and the shape of the roof means water pools in the flat part and needs to be drained off after a downpour, aside from these small things I am very happy with this run.JulieMc
We bought this as a run for our chickens during avian flu, as it is covered and this is currently required for your hens to go outside. Our coop fits inside and they can still scratch around in the grass. I donât think it would be fox proof but we have a stock fence as well. I bought it for my sister when she took my rooster for me. She now has a rooster and two hens. It is big enough for them, but I'd have loved the roosting poles mounted higher. By the time I put shavings in it, the roosting poles were basically on the ground. I also thought the top would open like the nesting box does for cleaning, etc., but it doesn't. Overall I am happy with the barn. Only a few issues, some resolved, some not. Took seven days to get here. Assembly was a little challenging but as long as youâre using your brain you can figure out the things that donât seem to be right about assembly. The very last piece of assembly was completely missing from the box. An important piece, the lid to the nesting box. Couldnât use the barn til I had that piece. Customer service from the manufacturer was amazing. Only one email sent and the part was ordered and mailed to me. BUT it took another seven days for that piece to arrive. Now I have everything I need except iâm trying to figure out how I can lock the door to the coop so predators cant get in. I purchased this barn in red because the tan option ran out of stock. However, it looks nice and bright and really serves as some decorative element to your garden. It took over a day for an item to get shipped, but I got it with a promotional two-day shipping, and received it just on time. The box was great with no dents or signs of damage. One of the parts did have a tiny dent, but it was on the inside, so I was not worried. The barn is made out of the recyclable plastic, and depending on how you are handling it, might be quite fragile. After all, it is for chickens, you know. Before you start assembling, I would recommend, as it mentions in the manual, to lay out all the pieces – the are numbered from 1 to 40 something. The instructions are not very detailed, and you just basically follow the number order to finish the assembly. If you feel like some holes are not matching, check again whether you are putting them together correctly. That might be the reason. My package came with 2 roster polls (it mentions that some models might not come with those), and extra screws. I remember some reviews complained that the screws would break easily. Once again, it is plastic, and it durable as plastic can be. Maybe you are not looking for the right things in this barn. Once put together and comparing my barn to the picture on the website, I can tell that it looks much smaller in reality – I have 5 chickens that are a couple months old, and it seems to me that they will be pretty snug in there when fully grown. The roof for the nesting box lifts up, but it can be secured with a screw. However, the main roof stays intact. I like that you can easily wash off the outside of the coop, but cleaning the inside might be a challenge.YuliaT

I bought 2 of these to use as bedside tables. My dogs and cats like to lay in a crate. This would would not work if you had to crate your pet to prevent destructive behavior, it would be very easy to chew through. I also like that it is plastic as I have older animals who have accidents sometimes so it will be easy to clean! Looks very nice as well! Easy to assemble but the instructions could use some work for people who dont often assemble furniture. Also the holes for the lock were not drilled correctly on mine, they were about 1â too close together so I had to drill 2 of my own.Rachael

The chicken coop is very sturdy and finished well. It was not very difficult to assemble and all of the directions are provided. We really like the ability to separate the chicken run from the chicken house part. After a little bit, the grass starts to die where we place the coop. It is pretty heavy and oddly shaped to be able to move the old one that we have now. This new one is so easy to disconnect the run and just move into position by yourself. Very cute coop! It arrived quickly and I was excited to put it together. It came in great condition, it smelled good, and was a cinch to build. The pieces fit well together, the metal is strong and the wood is lightweight. The sliding poop tray is easy to remove and clean up (we use sand in ours, it makes it very easy to clean up with a kitty litter scoop and also keeps it cooler in our hot weather. The coop has primer already applied so painting it was a snap (I still did 3 coats, but probably could have gotten away with 2). We needed to cut about 2.5 inches of the right side of the run and the roof to make it fit in the space we allotted. It was easy to disassemble the preassembled sides, cut them to our needed length, and then reassemble. The coop area is very small. We have 3 hens and that's good because this coop would probably only fit 2 comfortably and 3 hens cozily, not 4 like is advertised for sure! Our hens are free ranging throughout the day and will only be in the coop to sleep. If they are going to be in there for any more time than that then the coop is way too small. The nesting box takes up 1/4 of the floor so I did not put it in the coop, I am going to make a separate nesting box outside of the coop. I added in a roosting bar that spans the length of the coop using a 2×4 and 4×4 bracket holders so that the roost would be removable to clean or replace. The included bar (really just the handle of the nesting box) is too small, sharp-edged, and really is lousy since it is only big enough for 1 hen to use at a time! The "run" is very short height-wise under the coop and will not due for chickens to stay penned into all day, but it does keep the coop elevated which will help deter insects and mites. We added the scalloped trim to the roof and I painted the "x" on the door to make it look like a mini barn. All in all I am pleased with the coop, but would strongly recommend getting a much larger model for anything over 3 hens, and would not recommend keeping them in this small space longer than overnight. It was delivered quickly, and very easy to assemble but there are some serious design flaws in this product. There is no door on the entry to the nesting section, so there is no protection from invading predators at night, and no protection from our sub-zero frigid temperatures. I had to rig up my own way of installing a door. Also the description says it has one roosting bar. However what is considered a roosting bar is actually the top slat of the nest box, which is impossible for them to roost on as it is up against the wall, and even if you put it in the center of the nesting area, which would leave no room for anything else, it would hold only one bird, would easily tip over when a birds landed on it, and they would be pooping directly into the nest box itself. I also had to improvise and build an actual roosting bar inside for them as it is very important for them to be able to roost at night. Also the access door into the nesting section is extremly small and inadequate, so it makes catching a bird, finding eggs and reaching them, or cleaning almost impossible. It needs roof acces like some of the other coops have. I actually had to leave the small part of the roof unattached so I could lift it off to obtain adequate access to the nesting area. If the design were improved it would be a great coop for a few birds.urban chicken

The only thing i needed to worry about was putting it together and if it was good quality. Well…..This was not only easy to assemble but it is made good quality wood. The product came earlier than expected. The box it was in was a little damaged, but nothing fell out. I recomend that you have another person with you to help set it up. Since it's fairly easy to set up and take apart I will ne moving the location often so my rabbit doesn't dig his entire area up. There is a small door that slide up and down on each side with a clamp to keep it shut. One of the clamps is a little stiff and I have to force it shut. The locks for the opening door on top have a difficult time opening and closing, but I'm not too concerned about that. It's not as if my rabbit can open it himself. Overall I love this. It gives my indoor rabbit time outside when I have too much homework to do and I can't walk him.ohrats

Very spacious for my chicks to grow out! As everyone said, no instructions but that's ok it's pretty much self explanatory!! I did it on my own and I'm very proud of myself. Took my time and figured it out as i went along. Anyone that's put a wire dog crate together should be fine. Keep pliers handy to tweak a bit here and there though. I swear singe of these companies put 'seconds' aside for Wal-Mart folk, but we've got this!! ðŸËâ🤣 Shade is enough to keep the entrance to the dog kennel dry and shaded in the sun. Easy to move around but you'll need two people to make sure they metal stakes in each corner and in the middle are clear of the ground. Perfect for my needs.
This cage is a pretty good value for the price. It is fairly easy to put together. I would recommend two people to assemble it as it needed support to get together. Would be good if instructions were included with it. Having to go into house to watch a video and then back outside to put it together is a royal pain. But, I got it together. It should be ok for the chicks I want to raise in the cage. I did have to put chick wire around the bottom as the chicks I raise are very small. This product is sturdy for holding small animals and a good deal for the price. It sets up and tears down quickly without tools and is easily portable when torn down. That being said, mine came in a box that was badly beaten up/torn open by the shipper so the instructions either fell out in shipping or perhaps were never included. Without instructions, assembling it was a bit challenging because there are certain panels that have to go a certain way to fit together properly BUT once I figured it out, it was very easy to assemble. HINT: Make sure that there is only one door per side and you should be fine. Overall: I highly recommend it if you have small pets that require an outside play area during the day. It is obviously not well-shielded from the elements so it is not recommend in very cold climates or in inclement weather like wind, rain or intense sun, as the shade is minimal. We use ours as a daytime run area attached to our chicken coop and the chickens and a desert tortoise love it.thefatguy
