Best Turf Cleaner For Dog Urine (Jan 2023 Update)

This one is the best I've used! I first used this one last summer. I bought another brand this summer because where I went didn't have the simple green & it was a waste of money; didn't eliminate any smell! So I went back to Petco & picked up a gallon of the simple green! It has a pleasant scent right away which is a plus AND it elminated the "barnyard" smell I had going on! I had a small pool in my back yard (that from trial& error I've learned to put tarp down first so the bottom of the pool didn't get funky, stinky). Because of the pool sitting in the grass not aerating the funk from my dogs waste festers and when you pull the pool up the stench will knock you out. So I spray the eliminator down before pool placement & after! Works wondersMHDooley

I followed the instructions on the package, and waited until the sun went down so the AF would be cool to apply the product. I used the whole bottle on an area that is about 25ft. x 25ft. When it's being applied, it smells nice, like a deodorizer. After I applied the product, I lightly misted the area, as recommended on the bottle. This morning, I woke up, took my dog outside, and the lawn still smells. It wasn't even sunny out yet, which typically causes the AF to heat up and "activate" the urine smell more. Unfortunately, this product did not work to eliminate a Labrador's (9 weeks old) urine smell. For the price I paid, I would think it would do the job. It's not cheap and I wish I could get a refund!JimFrizz

I live in an apartment that has a small yard attached. Due to the size it doesn't take long to start to have an odor. I have tried all sorts things to eliminate the smell. I ordered commercial strength kennal cleaner that shelters and dog boarding places use. That would cover the smell while it was wet and that was it. This stuff is AMAZING. Sprayed it all over the grass and the next day there was absolutely no smell around. It used very little of the actual product, results will vary depending on size of yard (mine is about 6×10). Definitely recommend if nothing else has worked for you!doge11

I have tried over 10+ different brands of urine turf cleaner. I even had my turf professionally cleaned which was a waste. While these products might temporarily reduce order they left residue, high fragrance smells and I never felt comfortable with the list of ingredients. Having used other Skout's Honor products (laundry boost/order eliminator – love them!) I was super excited to see they had an outdoor turf product that hooked up to the hose. It not only gets rid of order, it actually cleans versus just masking the order. Works great to get stains out of the pavers. I feel great about about the non-toxic ingredients and my dog no longer coughs & sneezes after I rinse the grass. Cleaning the turf is no longer a chore. One happy dog mamma here! Stats: Small backyard with half pavers and half turf 20×20). One medium size 1yr old puppy. Live in sunny California where the heat can make the urine smell worse. Tip: Don't skip the scrub step. I found a cheap small tough bristle long handled broom at hardware store. You don't have to scrub to hard but that action does wonders on the pavers and turf to help the product work better.Marianne

Noticed an immediate change in oder but my son went crazy and used the whole container on the aera. My dog and I are old so I cannot move fast enough to get to the door to let her out fast enough. Can this be used on carpet indoors? If not do you have something that I can use indoors that works as well as your concrete & turf product?Susan H.

I have thee dogs and a smaller patch of artificial turf foe them to use. I also love in the south west and the sun bakes the odors in. I have tried MANY different products to improve the smell and this works the best. With regular use there is absolutely no odor in the yard.Angela W.

It was easy to use. It really cleared up odors in our garbage cans from dog duty. The flies had become insufferable. Once I cleaned, I created a new dogie duty only can that I lined and added deodorizer which helped a lot. Overall, I am very pleased with how it help to reset us back to clean and clear.Annapuffy

This stuff works! I had a stain from dog urine on my very hard to clean rug. I used many other cleaners and even the bissel portable machine with zero luck. They just made it worse! All I did with this product was spray it on, scrub it a bit with a toothbrush, then let it dry with a fan and poof! the stain disappeared. Our dog was diagnosed with IVDD and had spinal surgery last fall. With that came incontinence and he has several accidents throughout the day. We put new hardwood floors down hoping that would help, well the urine attached it self to the new floors and I was very frustrated, UNTIL I found this. Just got this today. My senior cat was been having problems going to the litter box sometimes and found my area rug was a good place to go. She seems to better now, but needless to say I need that smell gone. I'm waiting to get a shipment in for a blacklight flashlight so I can find all the spots, but I just decided to spray the whole area lightly to see if it would help in the meantime. IT TOTALLY DID! I will still follow up with the blacklight to make sure it doesn't come back and my cat doesn't remark from the scent being there, but I'm happy that this worked (better than Febreze which just covered it up very temporarily).Kathryn

We moved into our home a little over a month ago and have a 15 x 20 pen for our 2 small dogs. We were going nuts with the odor no matter often I cleaned out the pen or weed wacked. this has been a great products to cover odors on my patio where some of my dogs seem to prefer to go. I have used this in high humidity when odors are peak and it is great! Also used where there was smelly standing water in the spring . It does have some sort of sudsing which I like. No problems at all using on the grass either. I wish I could give this product 10 stars. It is an absolute miracle worker. This is the dog formula, and it comes in a variety of scents, but the scent doesn't matter. This will take a giant dog urine stain out of white fabric right in front of your eyes. If you get a black light and find the spots around your house, you can use this and see that it takes everything away. There is also a different formula for cats since their urine is different. I've had pets my entire live and always battled the problem with spraying, marking, and/or poor potty habits, and these products have completely changed my life.frances.m

I bought this because my dog peed on the bath rug twice when I was away from home too long. After using the spray, she began to use the rug a little more often. I moved and threw out the old rug without thinking too much about it. After a couple times of being gone too long, she peed in a couple spots around the new house so I tried the spray again. Now she pees in the house 1-3 times per week, where I've sprayed. So, at the very least, the spray doesn't work. Now that I've read reviews on other NM products, I wonder if she wants to pee because of the spray. Save yourself the frustration and just don't buy it.Jess J88

Env: development Having a household of dogs, ferrets, guinea pigs and rats can be tough when it comes to accidents on the carpeting. If you catch it as soon as it happens you can clean most of it up with a wet paper towel but if you end up with something that has been sitting around for a couple of days or weeks you might not be able to get all of the smell out of the carpeting. I use this on the carpeted areas in the house to remove urine stains; it works great for small to medium sized accidents but for larger stains you are probably going to get better results with a carpet cleaner or machine. This is not a training product to deter pets from urinating in the house but it is safe to use on carpeting and wood flooring if you spot-check the areas. The 22 ounce bottles last me about five months of average use. I like the trigger spray feature on the nozzle and that there is no over-spray from it when you are applying it. I don't pick up on a scent to this but some people have said that they detected a slight chemical scent when it was used on a combination accident (urine and feces). This can be a little hard to find in some retail stores; Target is the one store that I know will always have it in stock and even though it costs a little more than other urine cleaning products, it is something that I know is going to work effectively. My bedroom has both hardwood flooring and carpeting and there are times when I have an accident on the way to the bathroom; even though this isn't designed to clean human urine it does a great job on the occasional accident that I have on the carpeted area. I'd been fostering dogs (read: constantly potty training rescues) for eighteen months in my carpeted apartment and making due with a combo of baking soda, vinegar, and Nature's Miracle when I took in my last foster. She was totally sweet and totally magical–if your idea of magic is the Houdini brand of escaping every single type of dog kennel. In her episodes of separation anxiety, she would have accidents almost everywhere and then track the mess everywhere else. My former tools were not keeping up, and–try as I might–I couldn't seem to ever get all of the spots or get rid of the smell.Enter Angry Orange and the blacklight tool. I used it once, and my carpeted apartment had never smelled better. I was once again confident that I was helping pruppets without screwing over my landlady.The accidents, unfortunately, continued. Never fear, I thought, because I have Angry Orange! However, when I went to use the product a second time, the spray bottle no longer worked. Thinking I had just worn it out with too vigorous use, I transferred the miracle substance to another bottle. Voilá! Once again, my apartment smelled like oranges instead of–you know.Again, though, the next time I tried to use my Angry Orange, the spray bottle no longer worked. I went through this process several times and eventually accepted that I would just have to purchase a new spray bottle for every use. I've been wanting to buy this, but wasn't sure it would really work. Plus, I have another enzyme cleaner that I absolutely love. However, the other cleaner doesn't 100% remove pet messes (greatly reduces the stains but completely remove). I have a chihuahua, who's done very well with potty training (actually surprisingly well lol) but there's one spot that she's had 2 accidents at. I'm thinking she can still smell that area, even though we can't.I ended up finding this at Target, and it was a compulsive buy. I was very excited to try it though. As soon as I returned home, I thoroughly saturated an old pet stain. I allowed it to soak overnight (I'd say 12 hours – older stains need to soak longer). In the morning, I used my carpet cleaner to soak up any major cleaner that was still there then placed a white towel on top, which I placed something heavy on top. After 5 minutes, I removed the towel checked the spot… I couldn't find it anymore with my black light, which I used to thoroughly check with no luck! I definitely recommend!! I paid $20 for this at target will be reordering it on Angry Orange to save a little money.I'd also light to point out the smell. I wasn't sure I'd love the orange scent. I've made enzyme cleaners from orange peels before the scent is less than favorable. However, this orange scent is different. It's a very realistic orange scent not that typical cleaner smell. It kind of reminds me of a Creamsicle. It's a 5 out of 5 for odor elimination – I didn't have that problem before, so I tried it in the bathroom after my younger son missed the toilet. Bought spray/light combo packThe light I’m not impressed with really at all. Light shows everything else other than dog or cat urine which is why I’m disappointed because i bought the light to show the dog urine and didn’t show it at all.The spray is a nice scent but people should be strongly advised to open up all windows in the home and turn on all fans before even spraying it once and to avoid being in the direct room or area where spray was used and keep pets away and blocked off from the area until the spray is dry because it is overbearingly strong while it’s wet and just using it in one spot in one room the scent quickly travels through to the rest of the house. It gets less intense as it dries and once it’s completely dry it’s almost odorless.Not a horrible smell but it’s way too strong there needs to be lots of fans and open windows throughout the entire home until it dries and direct area where it was used needs to be avoided until it dries.I wasnt sure at first if this stuff worked or just masked the smell when I first used it while it was still wet. The whole house quickly smelled like the citrus and didn’t couldn’t smell dog urine or any other odor or scent at all in rhe house and the citrus was all we were able to smell until it all dried completely. Today I barely smell citrus at all now thst it dried. I smelled the dog urine alittle back but barely smell it and urine smell is mostly gone now and extemely super faint as to before I used this spray and the dog urine order coming from the big area rug made my eye sinuses allergies and my entire respiratory tract and asthma go haywire the urine odor odor was so bad from that big rug going anywhere near that kitchen made me feel sick to my stomach. So the spray does work great but just didn’t completely get rid of the odor.? This is my second bottle of Nature's Miricle Urine Destroyer. I had very good results with the first purchase which took care of a large smelly pet urine stain in our bedroom, it removed the urine smell with a pleasant perfumey smell instead which has since dissapated. This time I am trying the application a bit differently, I am putting the product in a spray bottle and spraying the pet spot areas and dabbing up with a dry towel which seems to be working well. Our dog had an accident on the carpet. Our bottle of Nature's Miracle was very old and didn't work anymore so I ran to Petco because we had great luck with this product 7 years ago when our dog was a puppy. I didn't realize they had reformulated it and it has a very strong perfume scent that does not go away. Furthermore it didn't remove the urine scent and I had to use a different product. I applied it a week ago and my entire house smells as strong as it did the day I used it. I have had a migraine for the last week because of it. All the windows are open and fans running. I tried several remedies like vinegar, baking soda, and unscented odor removers and nothing has helped. My last hope is hiring a professional carpet cleaner and if that doesn't work I will have to replace the carpet because I can't live with a constant migraine.Geronimo08

Bought this for dog urine odor/stains and it worked better than Nature's Miracle. The Nature's Miracle left a horrible combination of urine and fragrance. But this OUT! product had a lighter, more pleasant fragrance, but more importantly, it did a much better job at removing the urine odor! I had to treat some of the spots more than once, but considering that they had been there for a few weeks and dried before we noticed them, I really was surprised it worked as well as it did because I had tried Nature's Miracle on fresh spots that had been soaked up before applying and it still didn't work. I highly recommend giving this a try instead of the pricier products.Donna

I was told it didn't have to be cleaned up from where it was used, but after first use, there were suds indicating a cleaning substance which I cleaned up and dried. I was told it was a safe to use around children and pets ingredient, but not what it is. I'm one of those picky, well-educated, caring humans who likes to investigate things and not take someone else's word. What exactly are all the ingredients in this product? I can't sweat it was this product, but something was stinging a small scratch on my finger. No, I'm not the type of person who sues and I never have. If I'm not happy, I just won't use the product. My mom's dog is 17 years old, blind and incontinent. Bless his little heart… We are pretty good about his routine and taking him out on a schedule but as you can imagine, accidents will and DO happen. Now I did not have to spend alot on this product. But the claims made for the product sounded EXACTLY like what I was looking for. However, honestly speaking, I will tell you exactly my personal experience. It has an odd smell, not horrible but just odd. It does take care of lingering urine odors – for about 2-3 days, then the urine odor returns. So the MAIN question on the cleaning part of this product is answered. If the urine odor returns, I'm assuming the urine us still there. All of the reviews that state this thing works are true. My teenagers were in charge of keeping the litterbox clean because we have two cats. They do an excellent job of keeping up with it in general. They did, however, become a touch sluggish over the break. The smell was so awful that I was practically retching by the time I smelled it from down the hall and told them to clean it. The damage had been done, even with the clean litter, and all I could smell was cat urine. So I came on here and read all the 5-star ratings and decided that even if it only functioned half as well as the reviews said, it would be a success. So when it arrived, I just opened the bottle and poured about a third of the liquid over our laminate floor and sprayed it on the walls surrounding the litterbox. I set it aside for an hour. However, even standing outside the room, we instantly saw a difference. I also brought the litterbox outside and sprayed it with this stuff, but I didn't let it sit, instead wiping it down with baby wipes. After an hour, I washed everything out, replaced the clean litterbox in the room, and went outside to clear my nose to see if I could smell cat urine. I couldn't smell it. My children couldn't either. I invited my MOTHER (who despises cats and is a stickler for cleanliness) over for the grand verdict, and asked her to smell not only the house, but the room as well. She was taken aback by the fact that she couldn't smell anything, and she actually stated it smelled GOOD! It does have a light herbal aroma to it that isn't bad. My mother not smelling anything and remarking on how nice everything smelled is a huge praise, believe me. I would – and will – buy this product again. It works like a charm!!!mellie

I am buying a gallon of this today after having bought a spray bottle size of it from Pet Supermarket on the advice of one of their clerks when looking for something to deal with really pungent odor left by roof rat that found it's way into the basement. Yeesh. I sprayed the the concrete floor and wall really well where the smell was coming from and the smell was gone just as soon as the product dried. The clerk suggested this because it was to be used on concrete and I didn't want to have to go back in and scrub or rinse or brush or vacuum. It did the trick.I've also had many geriatric cats over the years and used various products for their messes and marking issues. All of the products I'd used worked pretty well but this has worked best of any of them.At present I have a 25 year old cat who is no longer able to use the litter box regularly so besides limiting his access to most of the house, I am using pee pads and this product to clear up urine and feces that don't make it to the box.I use it on ceramic tile floor and hardwood flooring sealed with an unknown sealer. The wood floor finish is no worse for the use (but I don't let the product sit on the wood for longer than it takes to spray and wipe up) and the tile takes it like a champ. I have gone back and dry polished the wood floor to bring the shine back up as the product leaves a bit of a residue but a buff with a regular clean shammy cloth quickly takes care of that.Periodically I am cleaning both types of flooring with appropriate methods and have had no "smell-through" or resurfacing stains.After 40-ish years of multiple cats and the one episode with the roof rat visit I am happy the rat came along or I would not have known this product worked so well.K. First, if you are reading this review, please know that I am sorry you find yourself, like me, comparison shopping for cat urine remedy products, and I hope things get better. This is not on my list of "fun ways to spend Friday night," but here we are…at the mercy of an orange tabby cat….he knows who he is…. Second, I feel like I have tried every cat urine stain and odor remover product under the sun, and Skout's Honor products, especially the cat-specific products, have worked the best for me and our household. While Skout's Honor cleansers are not enzyme-based, I feel like they work just as effectively if not better than the enzyme cleaners I have tried. And, the smell of the Skout's Honor products is pleasant unlike the strong, perfume-heavy scent of many other products that just masks the cat urine odor. I have used Skout's Honor on carpet, clothing, bedding, and a mattress, and it has not stained or bleached any surface so far. My male cat peed A LOT on a brand new comforter, and this not only removed the large stain but also the truly awful smell. I was so certain I would have to throw the comforter away or burn it and was convinced that odor would haunt me even then, but the severe mess urine and odor destroyer actually worked. I’m never going back to natures miracle. This stuff really really works. I have been fostering for 12 years and it’s been a challenge to find something that completely gets rid of the smell of cat urine from soft surfaces. The smell is gone almost instantaneously. The best part about it is that there is no perfume that covers up the smell, so you can tell whether or not it is actually working. I’ve had as many as 14 in my house at a time and you cannot smell cat *at all*. I keep my house clean and this helped clean it to the next level. I have purchased both the gallon and the spray bottle. If you purchase the spray bottle, I’d advise you to put the liquid into another bottle as the skouts honor bottle is pretty terribly constructed to where the lid constantly falls off and it leaks. I bought this product after my kids, who flip houses, raved about how well it worked. Last night my year old dog was sprayed by a skunk point blank. In the process of trying to get him quarantined and deal with the smell, my clothes were saturated with the awful stink. I thought it would be worth trying this product on the horrific smell. Lots of clean up today of dog, tile floor from when I walked back in after catching said dog, and of course, everything I was wearing in addition to his bedding. I mopped with the Urine Destroyer diluted strong in water so house smells good again. I then soaked my clothes and the dog bedding for abut an hour in a bucket with laundry soap and a couple cups of the Urine Destroyer. The smell is gone! I am thrilled at the low cost solution and will have this product on hand to deal with future close encounters of the skunk kind in addition to any pet bathroom accidents.KRAY

Dear Clorox, this product is legit. I have tried to convince my friends and family…well really any household with males about this product, and not one person has heard of it. I really wish it wasn't so hard to find, I live in Columbus, Ohio and have a hard time finding it. In addition to, I have looked in hardware and grocery stores in Canal Winchester, Lancaster, and Athens with issues. We recently adopted one of those "pandemic puppies" everyone was raving about. I don't really understand what's so great about them. They really make a mess of the place. Ha! I'm kidding. Our recently adopted puppy is the best! She did make a few messes early on but this carpet cleaner did an excellent job of getting the carpets cleaned. Once we had decided the "accidents phase" was over I wanted to clean the carpet in the bedroom & behind the desk I found a spot where I had spilled some coffee and didn't see it had dropped. Now I definitely did not use this product as originally intended. I don't have a Hoover wet vacuum or carpet cleaning vacuum of any kind. I simply diluted to the strength recommended on the bottle of 3oz of cleaner per one gallon of water in a sprayer, pre-treated the area and let it set for about 10 minutes. Came back with a stiff brush and worked the cleaner into several spots that had been pretreated and blotted it up with a cotton towel. OMG I could not believe it. One year old stains that have had nearly every carpet cleaning product applied to it over the year came up with ease. I was truly amazed. I did not take a before picture as I was not expecting this product to work at all. I am just shocked out how amazing of a job this product did on those pet stains. We have 2 indoor cats that from time spit up hairballs, etc. that leaves stains from time to time. From using this product, I can say that is does work to remove dirt and stains from carpets. I did not have parts of the carpet that particular smells bad (from urine or anything) to say for sure that us removes all the smell, but overall the product smelled very good and left the carpet smelling good afterwards. When using the carpet cleaner, I previously carpet cleaned the house about a month ago and when using this new product, it removed even more dirt from the carpet. Based on what I've seen when using it, I would recommend this product. Comparing prices online to other cleaning solution, it would a appear that this solution is close to the price of other cleaning solutions, only a few dollars more than other general carpet cleaning solutionsJosh

I wanted to make sure I gave it a chance before I wrote my review. My cat peed on my bed and it got thru my blanket, sheet, mattress topper and it got on my mattress. I washed everything else a few times and that took care of the smell on all of that but I couldn’t get the pee away from my mattress. It smelled at night and I couldn’t fall asleep and I tried every pet stain remover we had in our house. So I decided no harm in trying this… I used it for two days. Sprayed really close to the mattress and let it soak. Then I took a damp rag and scrubbed and did that about twice. The second day I just sprayed it and then an hour later I blow dried it to help it dry faster. It worked! I can’t smell the pee anymore (thank god) and I can finally sleep! Well, it works! Usually I use natures miracle but it wasn’t actually cleaning my carpet that well and the smell was just insane after a while. A couple of minutes after scrubbing this into my carpet in some spots where my dog had marked hard, I didn’t think it was going to work and I could still smell the urine but after an hour of letting it air out, the stains were gone except one bad one (I’d expect that and will just try using this again in that spot more thoroughly as it was lightened back up by 50%) and the smell was gone and everything smelled good again. Took some elbow grease but it works well for bad pet stains and smells.Hannah

Omg!!! I’m impressed! My son and puppy marked their territory in a couple places in the house and we could never get the smell out. It was embarrassing and we haven’t had anybody over because of it. I saw this in Walmart and decided to try this since the other sprays didn’t work. I sprayed this on a spot and it has a strong lemon smell. I went back over there an hour later and I smell NOTHING. I used this on some clothing my cat peed on, expecting that I could just let it do its thing and then be able to wash the scent out. Nope. Here's how the process went after letting the product dry in my clothes: wash, wash, wash, left outside to air out/dry for a week or so, soak in vinegar for two hours, wash, left in a bag containing an entire box-worth of baking soda for another week, wash, left outside to air out again…and they still smell overwhelmingly like chemicals. I don't know what the manufacturer uses to bind the scent to materials, but at this point I'm convinced I could have just gotten the cat pee out within the first three washes. I'm afraid it will take years for the scent to dissipate.ki1996

This is THE ONE. We were having so much trouble with our extremely territorial cat who, despite being spayed and being given plenty of attention, would not stop spraying our walls. Nothing else really does it except this! You want the foam, not the spray. Yes, it smells a bit like an old lady for a day or two. Used the foam vs liquid on 3 area rugs. I let all products sit and dry (for elimination). The liquid rugs still stink like cat pee. The foam rug smells fresh and odorless. I also used the foam on the carpet nearest the walls (where mop water from cleaning the "cat's bathroom" soaked under boards) and on the otherside of the wall, where the pee was cleaned up and mopped. I did two heavy applications here, just to make sure. You would not have known a cat box (w/3 large male cats) did their business here.Flutterbytink7

I used this product on my dog run and it works really great. I have small two problems with this product, one, I have a dog run the full length of my home and when you clean the run every 2 days you use a lot of the product. Be careful how often you use this product. I have found that if I alternate it with something else it last a lot longer. Two, the product is expensive, but that is the price you pay for a great product. I will be purchasing this product again because it is such a great product but now I know how to make it last and work for me. Works like it should. Removes animal odors from anything, including fabrics. Had a boy dog that marked a few places. Washed my velvet curtains with a cup of this thrown in the wash and it did not harm the fabric it all. I use it to wet mop my hardwood floors as well just because I have dogs but dont really care for the smell if dog. No overwhelming odor like some products. Im also very sensitive to smells. Especially chemical type smells. So that was a plus.evemhill

I just used this for the first time today because we have a cat that has gotten in the habit of peeing outside her litter box. It's pretty simple to use and smells nice. A friend bought this for us so I'm not sure I would have purchased it myself. There are some homemade remedies online that might work as well but don't smell as nice. I have to admit, the scent is surprising. I thought it would very chemically but it's nice. I'll update this review to see if it helped stop the cat with her bathroom issues.cheryl.b

This was recommended by our veterinarian to address the neutralization of odors from urine not contained in the litter box–such as when a cat is ill and not properly using the box, or due to behavioral issues. It has a pleasant smell that dissipates not too long after it's sprayed. It does an excellent job of eliminating odor and not just masking it.CENJIM

I had a large amount of cat urine on two very expensive oriental rugs. I used the product as directed, poured one entire bottle on each rug. The both rugs had a very strong perfume smell which dissipated after a couple of weeks. If you get your nose down to the carpet now (one month later) you can still smell the perfume but there is no odor of cat urine. The room does not smell perfume like. I think this product, which our vet recommended saved both of these rugs.Debra1122
