Best Dog Beds For Border Collies (Jan 2023 Update)

This is a well made dog bed. Easy to put together, very comfortable for my dog, stays cleaner than other dog beds, easy to remove and wash. I have a labrador retriever and initially got the large size, but exchanged it for the jumbo. The large size was a good size, but upon watching him sleep, i found out he likes to stretch out. Yes the jumbo size is very large and requires a lot of space in your room, but it is worth it to see him stretch out or curled up in his very comfy bed. A little pricey but he is worth it. I tried other beds and they are of inferior quality and won't last long. I highly recommend it. For your reference my dog is about 73 Lbs and measured 40 inches when laying down and lightly curled. Two dogs could fit in the jumbo bed if they decide to curl and lay next to each other. But not for stretching in a hot summer evening.Love Labradors 2

My 13 year old Lab was going for spirited 2 mile walks 4 months ago but alas, age it seems has finally caught up with my dearest and closest friend. His hips and knees have been noticeably troubling him, especially in the morning after a long sleep. He’s always had doggy beds but now more than ever I want him to be as comfortable as possible. This bed is FANTASTIC and my good boy loves it! He is 74 lbs but tall and lanky. The large measurements were too small for him, if you look in the picture the golden retriever in the large has zero room to stretch out. I am so glad I went with the XL. My sweet boy can lounge and stretch and get as comfy as his heart desires. I ordered the brown color but have a small blanket draped over it in the image. we all love this raised bed. this is our second one, the first one we purchased several years ago and is holding up so well (it still looks new!). we take it outside during the day for our two fur-babies to sit on it and then move it all over the yard if they prefer sun versus shade. the second one will be for inside the house in our hu-man seating area so they feel like they have a seat that's just theirs. great design with the legs, they never collapse when they jump on it (and one of them often uses it for added height when they play)….unlike other raised bed designs that fold like a beach chair but then collapse when jumped on. easy to assemble.Stacia

This is a good quality product that I am hoping will last a good many years. Was quite difficult to assemble in terms of getting the last bolt in and required two pairs of hands. I don't know how the assembly process could be improved as the bed surface needs to be under tension which is what makes the final assembly a little problematic. The biggest issue is around registering the product to take advantage of the guarantee. For Europe, you have to register on the Canada/USA site and of course the form is geared for zip codes not UK address formats. I ended up on a chat session with them and still have no confirmation of the registration of the purchase. A very frustrating and time consuming process for something which should be a lot easier.Stuart F

My cats just love the cots for lounging, playing, sleeping, and that cat superiority point of view above the floor. This cot is very sturdy. Although it says small its bigger than the small travel cot from other makers. Its not too big or too small. Thats quite Okay with me and the cats. Three of them can get on it together, which they do. The Terra Cotta is a perfect color for me, I love it because it blends in with the decor. The mat portion is mesh all around, the frame is metal and comes with the single tool needed to screw it together. They can be used indoors or outdoors. I have another one in grey outside and its been fine through two summers and winters. Once put together its designed to stay together so i wouldn't say its a travel cot. I think did see a replacement mat available when i ordered this. I may go ahead and order the replacement mat portion for a few years down the road while its available because the cats love it so much it going to get a lot of wear. I got one of these beds (36” XL) for my pup who has separation anxiety. When she isn’t sleeping in bed with me, she is snuggled into her faux fur bed. I brought it to my parent’s place when I had a trip and, surprisingly to all of us, my dad’s 10 yr old Anatolian Shepard Mix (who was born in a cave in Afghanistan) fell in love with it. This dog does not like any type of comfort. Beds, toys, treats… she has never shown any interest in anything my dad has given her. When I returned from my trip the first thing I was asked is where I got it. Ever since Bella got her own fur donut bed, she seems to be actually sleeping better and less anxious… about everything. This has to be the best dog bed I have ever purchased. My dog plays toss with it. My baby also hides his toys and bones in it and He sleeps in it. It is super soft and furry. I do not recommend washing no matter ehat the instructions state but spot clean it as needed. I have never seen a pet bed washed that comes out like it went in. I cannot say anything negative about this pet bed except I need more for the cats. This particular size pet bed runs for around $35. The bottom is not very cushy but decent. We have a 55-60 lb dog and the 30×30 is way too big to be comfy but the next size smaller was cramped. I thought the fluffy fabric would be thicker but it is a bit thin for my taste. It does seem to be well constructed though. Do not stick this size in a large home dryer as it is too big and the heat will matte the fluffy strands (almost like melting) from the heat because it cannot move around enough. Kind of a bummer because it doesn't look nice on one of the sides.WallyGBWI

This is a great, durable bed! Our puppy loves it! For some reason, my two older dogs refused to lay on them (we bought two). I think they may have been used to a firmer bed. They would step on it and immediately jump off. The puppy took to it immediately though.Diane

We got our dog bed 6 ish years ago and it's a favorite with our fur family. The sun and washing has lightened it but the stitching and zipper have held up amazing. We did add a piece of memory foam to the middle for our 14 year old dog when he was spending longer days on it (fit no worries). We're getting another but the first one has lots of life left in it. We ordered this dog bed because our 7 month lab puppy has a tendency to chew anything he can fit his mouth around. After burning through two dog beds in 2 months, and pulling countless cotton balls out of my puppy's mouth, we decided to invest in a bed that would last. This dog bed has done just what we needed it to. It's large and very pillow-like. One of my great danes is 7 1/2. He threw out his poor old back a day before I ordered this bed it was absolutely awful to see him hurt so bad. It was his old bed. I ordered this after his vet appointment and I was relieved to see big barker shipped it the same day, the Friday before memorial day. Memorial weekend passed and we got it on Tuesday. I also want to mention that I appreciate a product made in the US, I buy what I can American made. He laid on it for a few days and then quit and then I realized it was because it didn't smell like his stinky old blankets that he enjoys so much, so after I put his favorite smelly blanket on the bed he took to it immediately. We got the XL with 1 side that has a pillow. He hasn't seemed to care about the pillow much so he avoids it. Only one dane can fit on the bed but he is a big beefy euro dane. I absolutely plan on ordering again for our 2nd great dane but getting the flat XL version, maybe swapping them out for the boys. Reggie my injured dane was hand raised by me with love, he was a rescue that I fostered at 2 weeks and we fell in love with him so we were fortunate to be able to adopt him. I used to kangaroo him because he was so small and ill he couldnt retain his own body temp. So safe to say I love my dogs like they're my own children. Very glad I decided to give it a shot. It was expensive but so is an emergency vet appointment with a hurt back. Well worth the money if it makes his final years earthside comfortable.Jessi

It's been 3 years since I first experienced a Big Barker that was generously donated to a special needs dog at the rescue where I work in Missouri. 18 mo. later we bought one for our 80# Akita/Shepherd Knarly after I saw how that donated bed stood up to the wear and tear of daily shelter use. That was 18 mo ago. We lost him in February to what looked like cancer, but it was a fast end to a big life full of adventure. He loved this thing. I love this thing. It kept me from waking up every 40 minutes when he got uncomfortable crammed onto our queen sized memory foam mattress (we're not small people either) and hopped stiffly down to the carpet, then got back up with us a little while later. I miss the big, comfortable sigh he'd give us every night once his chin hit the pillow. And he slept HARD, with his bad leg hanging off the side. I miss our dog. The bed's still going strong under our 60# pit mix, though. He likes to hang his rear end off, elbows on the bed, and stretch his back legs out with his toes all spread out, then belly crawl the rest of the way onto it, draped over the middle of it. Pitties are weird. At least mine's weird and comfy! I think, nostalgia aside, what's impressed me the most is that there's NO WEAR to this bed, the foam *or* the cover. Other than the seasonal shedding fur right now, it looks like it did the day I took it out of the box. I can't find human products that stand up to the beating our dogs give things, so I feel like I've gotten my money's worth out of this bed already. Knowing it's designed for 10 years of use just means I've invested in all of my dogs' health for a good while longer. I'm here today getting a Lg Sleek for our Rottie mix's crate. I’ve been buying beds for my big old man for a long time. He’s about 100lbs, and he’s 14 years old. Now he’s hurt and doesn’t walk well, so he spends the majority of his time in bed, and it’s even more important to have a good bed. To get a halfway decent bed, it’s usually about $150+, and I’m still disappointed. The memory foam is thin or goes flat. Some beds actually have thick foam, but they’re not memory foam, and they’re too dense and firm. The last bed I bought said that it was 5” thick with dual foam. It seemed nice enough when I sat on it, but exactly a year later, when I laid on it for an hour, my joints were all killing me. I felt almost like I had been lying on the floor. Every review said that this was hands down the best bed. I was really looking for something more in my budget, but I couldn’t find anything even half as good as this one, and I had just paid $180 for the other one, and had to replace it after a year! If I had bought this one a year ago, my pup would be happier, and I wouldn’t be buying another, so it’s a sound investment. I didn’t really have the money for it right now, and didn’t want my dog to have to wait for a new bed, but then I read that they offer Affirm, which acts like a payment plan! So I could have the bed now! I was sold. OMG, I’m so glad I bought it. This bed says it’s 7” thick. The old bed said 5”, but the Big Barker is at least twice as thick as the old one! I don’t know if the Big Barker measurements are modest, or if the other bed’s were inflated, or if that’s how flat it went over the year or what, but the Big Barker immediately exceeded my expectations. It’s super comfy – the right amount of support and squish. My dog is happy. It’s the best quality bed I’ve ever bought. If you’re thinking about it, just do it. This thing is going to last. Two things I would change, though. One, I wish the covers were available in green. My dog has become incontinent, so I wish that the outside cover was waterproof. I know they sell a waterproof membrane for the inside, which is good. I wish there was an option for a super tough, durable, waterproof cover. One of the beds I had before had that, and rather than having to constantly remove the cover, wash, and replace it, I could leave the whole cover on, and soap/hose it down really quick. It was also chew resistant (not a problem in my house, but sure kills two birds with one stone). Anyway, it’s fine, I wrapped the bed including the cover in a 6-sided waterproof encasement, and I have multiple waterproof blankets, so I layer one of those on the bed, and then put down a couple of washable waterproof pads too, so it’s protected. As such, his photos don’t show off the bed as well as they could.blackviolet

You can wash the outside of the bed fan but the inside is a paper bag filled with chopped up foam that can't be washed. i dont about everyione but I'll bet there goes outside and gets stinky. why would you sell a bed without a serviceable liner in it. I am thinking about throwing the inside bag away and buying another bed from a dufferent company that i can put inside that can be washed. The problem is that dog loves it ir i would throw it away. i have resirted to putting a large garbage bag over the stinky part so she can still use it until I can do better. To much work. This probably isn’t the review you’d expect, but my daughter LOVES this bed. When she was a few months old, we went on a family vacation and in lieu of spending $180 for a DockATot, we purchased this instead. This bed has literally been her obsession since that trip. Any time she sees it (even when I bring it downstairs to wash), she starts panting like a dog and rushes over to try and lay on it. We used it past the vacation and put it into her crib at home. She’s 20 months old now, and we’re trying to transition her to a toddler bed, but she keeps tossing and turning all night because she loves this dang dog bed so much and her regular toddler mattress just isn’t good enough for her. I came here to figure out what the minky fabric is that covers this darn bed so I can buy a fitted sheet of the same/similar texture to try and appease her and figured I would leave a review while I was here. We bought an extra when she was in daycare because she was having a rough time during nap time. It shrunk in size! Very disappointed in this purchase. They are making them smaller and the height is only 6 in compared to what the dimensions on the site saying 8 inches tall, they should be careful about that. Be careful opening (they warn not to use sharp objects) a little difficulty with tape. Love totally recyclable materials with no waste. Bolster on photo looks taller then actual bed. Having said that, Leira (Siberian Husky mix) loves it♥ but has to share with younger brother (spaniel/velcro dog) as he loves to snuggle. Fits both dogs great. I would highly recommend this bed if your dogs don't mind a tightly stuffed, somewhat firm, tufted pillow. Very good construction, but my dogs didn't seem to feel comfortable. This was primarily due to the tufted nature of the pillow insert making it feel lumpy.Xaviar

This seems to be a good dog bed. Be prepared…. it takes 3 to 4 days for it to “fluff up”. It comes rolled up and it was really flat considering the specifications said it was 4” high! Letting it set to fluff it took about 3 days for it to become 4” high. The cover is a bit loose but does not bother my girl, she really likes her new bed. I feel this bed was worth the money, she spends more time on her new bed than she did on her old one.Linda

We purchased 2 xl beds. They came wrapped in plastic and vacuum sealed. The directions said they should fully expand in 24 to 72 hours. We are on day 5, and one of the beds is almost fully expanded, but the 2nd bed is still very squished in the center and corners. We are following the directions and shaking them several times a day. Im beginning to think the 2nd bed may have to be returned/replaced. I will give it a couple more days, but it dosent look like it has made any progress in the last couple days.Brenda101

This bed is great! It fits perfectly into the corner and looks nice. I have a blind dog and she was hesitant at first but after a few times sleeping in the bed, it is now her "goto" sleep spot! She goes past her other beds to get to this one. Walls are nice and tall but soft and she can snuggle into the cushion. Have recommended it to quite a few people who have seen it in pics I've posted. We ordered this bed after seeing the raving reviews from a youtube influencer Ryen Lung and his Corgi, Gatsby. We have a corgi mix ourselves and saw how much Gatsby loves the beds he had received. I knew this bed was pricey, BUT so WORTH the price. We have it under our desk. It is VERY soft, and looks like it will be very durable. Bear likes it, but its my 17 month old daughter who loves it best. She hides things in the bed all the time. After doing some research, I noticed some major selling factors for me. These beds are made in the USA and it is a family owned business. I also like the fact we can wash this bed if we have to. We do plan on getting more beds later on once we get a bigger place.Clifton N

We returned the faulty one and the rest available were the same. We could not find the bes that actually had the one piece foam. Are the beds supposed to have the solid orthopedic foam or just pieces of what appears to be cut up foam? Beware of when you buy this that you get the correct one.Annette

This dog bed is so cute! It's perfect for the holidays. I got the large size so it's a little big for my 20 lb dog, but he has plenty of room to sprawl out on it. On the side it reads "dashing through the snow". Inside it's lined with a nice white soft sherpa material. It's sooo soft and feels really comfortable so I'm sure its super cozy for my dog. It's also very plush, the bottom is not flat at all. It holds it's shape of the sled nicely. I would definitely recommend it because it's adorable and adds a nice touch of holiday cheer, and it's super comfy and soft.Marie

These are the cutest little beds! I only planned to have them out during the Christmas period, but my pets love them! I have 2 cats and 2 dogs, but only 2 sleigh beds. It’s a race to see who can get to them first! They are slept in every single day. The beds are super soft and the high sides keep the animals cozy and warm. My two dogs, who are very particular about laying on blankets and pillows, both gravitated to this bed as soon as I put it out for them. They love the combination of the orthopedic bed with the soft and fuzzy plush covering on it and will stay there for hours, when they used to only curl up on the couch with a blanket with a human. Their immediate satisfaction with the bed was a very pleasant surprise and I cannot stress enough how picky my dogs are about where/what they lay on and how much they love this bed. I ordered this after my 60lb Golden girl refused to leave my sister’s Golden’s bed over the holidays. My sister told me where she got it and I ordered my girl one immediately! It is a nice thick bed with a very soft cover. I got the beige/cream color, which has a little bit more yellow tinge to it than I’d like, but it still matches our home decor & her hair color the best out of the options. I got the Jumbo size which gives her plenty of room to sprawl out when she wants. I love that it has a little height on the sides for when she wants her head elevated. I haven’t needed to wash it, but the cover does come off, so I know it’s an option (but can’t attest to how well it holds up to a wash).CSally9

Positives: 1. It’s big enough for my largest dog (Rhodesian Ridgeback/Great Dane mix) 2. It’s very soft on the inside (bottom lining) 3. My cat approves Negatives: 1. It gets dirty quickly and is too cumbersome to throw in the washing machine as suggested). 2. Although it is soft, it loses any fluffiness or support after a few uses. It’s like having a soft blanket under you (it’s a barrier from the tile, but you still are feeling the hard surface of the tile). 3. The sides of the bolster are a canvas like material. This is my 2nd Majestic Pet bagel bed. I have 3 toy breeds and a oversized recliner so the 40" bagel bed has room to sit next to me. There is plenty of room for all 3 the sleep in the 40". It is super soft, cuddly and they get all snuggled in and sleep for the night. My 1st bed was the velour all over, and the new one is canvas with the sherpa bottom. I knew it was time for a new bed because they were choosing different beds that were softer. The old bed is more than 3 years old and doesn't stay fluffed up very long any more. When put the new bed next to me they got excited and jumped in. I can't say enough good things about the Majestic bagel beds. Most beds I have bought usually go flat with in 6 months to a year. Magestic stays full and cuddly for a couple of years. I am very happy and so are my babies. They will have sweet dreams in their new soft bed for awhile. I love that Magestic has some new styles of bed now, I will be looking into them for thoopse times that the babies want alone time for naps.hrlydva

Looks as described and so far is working out. I appreciate the padding on the underside of this bed (and I’m sure my little guy does as well), although it is never on anything harder than a plush carpet. Fabric is softer than anticipated, which is a plus! I would say that the only gripe I have at the moment is a minimal one: until my little guy “breaks it in,” it is fairly lopsided. He does favor one end over the other but no doubt it’ll flatten, in a good way, soon. Bottom line: We recommend this bed!Kellie

I bought two of these for my Rough Collie. He was about 70-75 pounds and very old. I needed something to keep him off the hard floor. He road 1500 miles in the back of my car on his bed and was super comfy the whole way! We had them in the bedroom and in the living room for him. He loved them a lot. We had them for close to 2 years before another dog decided to keep urinating on them. I was able to wash the covers easily but the foam was getting really stained and gross smelling.Raquel C.

So far this bed seems great. My favorite part is that it didn't have any foam odor when it arrived! Foam seems very high quality. _x000D_ My dog has not used it much yet but I have noticed the top and bottom fabric of the bed is a bit slippery. The first time my dog got on the bed his backside slide off the bed as the bed moved forward. I probably would have been better off with a bolster style and different fabric for him especially now that he is an advanced senior. I have two dogs, a mini-Aussie in this size range and a border collie slightly larger than this range. Both use the bed happily (never together). The fabric isn’t showing any signs of wear. The egg crate is somewhat compressed, but still offers plenty of padding (I can’t touch the floor through it). We own two of these exact beds (one is 4 month of use and the other less than a month). This is holding up nicely compared to many more expensive beds on the market. I have been very happy with our purchases. The Fur Haven pet bed is better than I imagined. The cover is not the natty fleece that traps pet hair most similar beds are constructed of. The Fur Haven bed has a soft silky feel covering, is stuffed just soft enough and surprisingly lightweight, but NOT flimsy. I’m confident this will wash up nicely when the time comes. The price point is reasonable. I have owned dogs for decades – tried every pet bed possible (except the $200 plus beds). I mistakenly purchased 2. But actually glad I did. The bed fits my 10 lb Papillon perfectly. I’ll watch for a sale and purchase a large and medium for the rest of the pack. Happy hound.Bonnie
