We love ruffwear! Have been using their products for 5 years already, love the designs and materials they use but mann what’s going on with the stitching ?? It sucks when the stitching starts coming loose within days/weeks of use, i got two dogs and it feels like you got a 50-50 chance that you will get a product with defective stitching, Got two collars, the “ruffwear” tag started coming loose within a few weeks of use on one of those. Got two leashes, the buckle to use around the waist broke in two days!! On one of those, the other one is still good, Got two fernie jackets, the stitching around the neck started coming loose within ONE wash on one of those, so you get the point… luckily i know how to sew and I’m able to repair the items, but it sucks to spend top dollar on dog gear only to last in good condition for a few days or weeks.Gabriela

For the number of tags I need to have on my dog, separate attachment points for tags and leash are a must. Everything on one ring would be a difficult mess. My Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy is growing quickly, and making small size adjustments a couple times each week is no problem. Once set, it stays set no matter how hard he pulls, no matter if the collar is dry or wet. The webbing hardly absorbs odors, and a quick wash and air dry gets rid of what little there was. My only regret is that my rough-and-tumble beast of a puppy will outgrow his medium collar in another month. Have had this collar for about 8 months. The overall durability if the product seems to be good and it does function fine. I was a little disappointed in the weight of the buckle. It is metal, which I didn't realize which makes it pretty heavy. The major issue I have is that after 5 or 6 months, the lettering on the "cabelas" label started to peel off. Now at 8 months, the lettering is almost completely gone. The reflective-ness of the collar is on the very low end in my opinion as well. I know these are just cosmetic issues, but I would have bought a plain cheaper collar if thats all I wanted.AlanK

Strong and well made with quality hardware. I particularly like the seperate dog tag mounting point and rubber disc to cushion the tag. The item itself is mediocre at best. . It’s an overpriced collar with a plastic clip. There was a time when I really enjoyed your products. Now I have to sacrifice quality for the esthetic color that I want. . I would have much preferred and would even pay the up charge to have the color I chose with the metal buckle. I do a lot of hiking and backpacking with my pup and when he’s excited (which is often) I now have a concern for the durability of his collar AND his harness. I bought this collar a couple weeks ago, and I am so glad I did! My dog, Bella, constantly pulled against her flat collar on walks and when she’d see another dog or person, she would lunge. The constant pulling made me concerned for the damage she was doing to her trachea. This pulling behavior also caused me to stumble along awkwardly behind her, while trying not to fall. We have gone through two of these in two days! The quick release mechanism is what broke both times. We have a 50 pound Husky that we put on a tether in our yard. The first time it broke, the quick release mechanism shattered. The second time it broke partially but remains non functional. The dog got loose and ended up on a busy road. We’ve only had him for a month and because it’s winter we haven’t explored the neighborhood as much as we would like. I figured this new buckle design would be better and improved over the plastic buckles on leashes that I honestly have never had any issues with. However, I don’t know if I just got a bad buckle or what, but this metal buckle seems to only seems to introduce new issues. Firstly, the biggest issue I have with it, is the rivets are not flush with the other metal pieces, and dog hair will get stuck under the rivet heads and pull out. Secondly, this buckle release mechanism is not smooth AT ALL. It is not a design that can be released with one hand. Not only does it require two hand, but it takes a lot of force and wiggling to unbuckle this buckle. I paid extra for this newly designed buckle, thinking it would improve upon typical collar buckles. But I feel as if I only to threw money in the trash with this purchase, which I have to painfully admit because I have many other Ruffwear products that I love. Unfortunate and disappointing. We love this collar for our catahoula mix. He broke out of his plastic buckle collar three times in five months, eventually breaking it completely. We bought this collar because Ruffwear had been recommended to us many times, and because of the full metal buckle! It works great and looks so stylish. The only thing that we found was that the 14-20” size is actually slightly too big for his 15.5” neck. I made it as small as it could go and it’s still a bit bigger than his old collar. I switched from a harness to a collar for K9 Nose Work and Scent Work, but found that the leash ring kept falling down under my dogs' neck making it hard for me to keep the leash up and not tangled in their feet. I was looking for a collar with the buckle opposite the leash ring and the Top Rope collar popped up in my search. I bought two. I have since used them in practice and at trials and I LOVE them. I do wish there was an 1 1/2" wide option so they would feel more different to both dogs than their regular collars, but this still works great. So I absolutely love this collar – it has been great for my dog in that is doesn't rub or cause any issues for him. However, the sizing is a bit tough for me. I originally bought the collar in an XL and exchanged it for a L, but between the last two holes (making it the largest possible) I wish there was one more in the middle because the last hole is too loose on him when we are walking, but then the second to last is too tight when he is laying down/relaxed. Other than that, this is absolutely perfect!
The first thing I noticed when I unboxed this collar was how soft and supple the material is—perfect for snuggling and probably very comfortable for my pup! It seems well-made and is definitely well-designed, love the little touch of the "W" mark on the end. The color is CRAZY bright, almost dayglo, and looks great on my brown brindle pittie, it would really stand out on a black dog too. My single caveat with this collar is that it is too soft and flexible to restrain my dog securely, so we just use it to hold his ID tags (we always use a harness on walks anyway). I'd definitely recommend the collar and will probably end up buying some other colors to accessorize!Sam S.
Anyone that have dogs know that they chew on anything. But this Wild One collar is definitely not designed for dogs. Within 2 days, my dog has chewed it up. My other nylon collars were also chewed by my dog but it usually takes months for it to show the severity of damage. The material also feels cheap. Like generic iPhone cases you can find anywhere. Very subpar. Their customer support was also somewhat useless. Basically they say this is part of wear and tear. I understand wear and tear but 2 days? The Canny Collar is the best dog training tool you can buy. It's safe and gentle for your dog, and it's simple and easy for the owner. It's a little more expensive than other types of "halter collars," but its features and design makes it worth a few extra dollars. Most halter collars lead from underneath the dog's mouth; the Canny Collar lets you lead and direct from the back of the head, like a typical leash. We have used it recently on two dogs — a 5 mo old Border Collie and a 1 year old German Shephard. The results were amazing. Walks and training have become much more enjoyable for the dogs and their humans. Not all dogs take to it immediately, but in our case, it was only a few blocks before they settled in. Oh my goodness! I am just about to purchase a Canny collar from VetnPet after borrowing a friend's to trial. We both have Dobermans, both pull like crazy and consequently we both have sore left shoulders. After 4 walks on the Canny collar my Dobe is a breeze to walk. Before the Canny, my arm was ALWAYS extended whereas now I have NOT had to extend my arm once. It is as if my Dobe is stuck on my left knee. The past 4 walks have been so enjoyable and easy we are walking an extra half to one hour each morning. Cannot believe the difference. Another advantage using a Canny is all the control is from the back of the head/neck and not to the side like some haltis. This is far better for Dobermans and other long necked dogs who are prone to neck alignment damage.Sue
Nice collar, good quality webbing and buckle. I do not find it as easy as shown to wrap the loose webbing around my dogs neck , when letting my dog run free, only because I find the clips fiddly and have to put my glasses on. In theory it sounds good but I have a persistant pulling springer and it doesn't'work on her like the videos I've watched. She doesn't mind the band across her nose as she has previously worn a halti, although sometimes she manages to get it off. I've looked up about persistent pulling whilst using the canny collar and I'm now trying the long lead and turn method. I feel more in control by holding the head but it doesn't stop pulling instantly . I think with my dog this is going to take time and patience to crack this. I can't say whether I would recommend this collar, as it hasn't worked for me as shown yet.chelle53

We love ruffwear! Have been using their products for 5 years already, love the designs and materials they use but mann what’s going on with the stitching ?? It sucks when the stitching starts coming loose within days/weeks of use, i got two dogs and it feels like you got a 50-50 chance that you will get a product with defective stitching, Got two collars, the “ruffwear” tag started coming loose within a few weeks of use on one of those. Got two leashes, the buckle to use around the waist broke in two days!! On one of those, the other one is still good, Got two fernie jackets, the stitching around the neck started coming loose within ONE wash on one of those, so you get the point… luckily i know how to sew and I’m able to repair the items, but it sucks to spend top dollar on dog gear only to last in good condition for a few days or weeks.Gabriela
I have 2 beagles a little over a year old and these are the second Ruffwear collars they’ve had. I bought new ones because they grew out of their old ones and, honestly, I wanted a new look on them. My girls are typical beagles who spend a lot of time outdoors wrestling, digging, chasing, etc. These collars hold up well and are not too thick, stiff, or bulky. For the number of tags I need to have on my dog, separate attachment points for tags and leash are a must. Everything on one ring would be a difficult mess. My Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy is growing quickly, and making small size adjustments a couple times each week is no problem. Once set, it stays set no matter how hard he pulls, no matter if the collar is dry or wet. The webbing hardly absorbs odors, and a quick wash and air dry gets rid of what little there was. My only regret is that my rough-and-tumble beast of a puppy will outgrow his medium collar in another month. I'm ordering a large Top Rope collar next, and someone is going to get a really sweet hand-me-down!Glen H.

I purchased this collar maybe 3 months ago and the buckle now pops open when my dog pulls on his collar, whether it be on his leash when he sees a squirrel or at the vet while they are just holding him into place. My dog is 55lbs and barely pulls on his leash, only when he sees small animals. Not impressed the buckle! I really liked the collar but I would prefer it if the buckle didn't break or if it was more like the belt style.Grace
I purchased this collar or one very similar for my dog last year and it ended up rubbing off his hair on his neck area and leaving an irritated raw patch. As a pet owner I was very concerned sense the collar wasn't very tight at all, I don't want this happening to anyone else's baby. I did reach out to Carhartt to inform them of this defect and they seemed concerned and offered to replace it with a better collar. They ended up not replacing it and continued to give us the run around. We also did send photos in to show how harmful it was. I loved there product but it's super disappointing they don't stand by there word. Stylish and good-looking collar. Unfortunately, it's not as durable as we had hoped. The buckle/clasp is half plastic and half metal which causes it to fail over time. Ours worked great for a little over a year on our 45 pound hound, and then began to fail if our dog applied tension to it against his leash which would cause it to fall off of him. This e-collar is definitely worth the extra money hands down as its a safer option for counter-conditioning out some nasty habits. Whether it be resource guarding, dog based aggressive tendencies, human based reactivity, or long-term rehabilitation of stubborn habits. This collar is the way to go. Larger dogs require larger solutions and this collar is much more comfortable as its not as sharp compared to some. this e collar is amazing. My 100lb plotthound is a wanderer. When the other two dogs were out playing in the yard, we'd have to keep him on a long lead, which prevented him from fully playing free with our other dogs. … we tried numerous times to start on the lead, then let him off and continuously do call and reward, but eventually, he'd always sneak over to the neighbors. With The Boss I'm able to correct his behavior from across the yard. It took less than one week to get him fully trained. Works on my 120lb Pyrenees lab mutt! He has thick hair. Hes stubborn as all heck. I had to turn the power down to 35% there is plenty left if a deer comes I can juice it up for his safety (if needed.) most of the time 35 will stop him. I rarely need to shock him now. He knows how to win. The only thing I use the collar for is the come here command as that is the most important command ever and I dont want to confuse him. I think it was worth the money as everything is water proof and much higher quality than our last $60 one513briang

These collars work great with a little bit of time and training. After a year of use, with supervision, I can now take my dogs (Basenji & G.Shep) outside on our 3 acres without the collars because they have now learned the boundaries. My favorite feature of these collars is the nightlight and the beep function. The nightlight is perfect for going out at night and keeping my eyes on where each dog is located. The beep function is fantastic, my dogs have learned the beep means to turn around and come back. During training I used the shock function (level 8 & I did test the level of intensity on my own leg) only a handful of times when absolutely necessary and it's never used now. Both dogs now respond to the beep and if they're chasing a deer they'll stop to the vibrate function. The two CONS I have with these collars are the rubber covers for the progs come off so easily when the dogs are wrestling and get lost constantly. The other con is that I've had the collars close to a year now and the rechargeable batteries within the device are dying. The collars are on charge constantly now so that they are charged up for when they are needed. The collar dies within about 8 hours before it needs a charge even if it's turned off. Whereas when I first got them the charge lasted about a week. This is after treating them correctly, turning off when not in use and only charging when needed.Elizabeth R.
I have used this collar for 2-3 years now, I went with it as it is one of the highest rated collars when researched. I do run into technical difficulties as you do with anything else and have had no problem with having them replaced. I favorite part is the range and diverse control settings. When my dogs are out of the yard, I just hit the sound button and they know they have went to far and to get back. They come usually immediately. My least favorite part is the product does not seem to last very long.. in the two to three years I’ve used this, I have had to get a few replaced and all with different problems. I recently bought a brand new set of two, and I am very happy. I just have a problem with one of them flashing the green light constantly while the device is on and the battery life on that specific collar does not last. I love how the vibration & shock can be set from 0-99. The sound tones are also pitched slightly different for each collar & has the option to add a third collar. I’ve had this for months & the battery in the remote lasts extremely long. I think I’ve only charged it once. The collars last days as well. The only thing I wish was easier is the ability to switch over from each channel. When you switch from shock to vibrate, the first click is to switch over, then the second click actually vibrates the collar (& vice versa). When switching over to the other channel, you have to follow the same procedure. Which is fine for normal circumstances. But, when it’s an emergent situation, that extra time it takes to shock/ vibrate the other collar can make a huge difference & lead to a struggle in a stressful situation.Erin
