Dog Boarding At Home For Sale (2024 Update)

My active Doberman is recovering from a spinal injury and needs to be confined. This pen is perfect. The quality is top-notch, with plenty of clear and illustrated instructions that are really not even necessary as it's so simple to set up. My one and only quibble is that the box opened nearly the full length of the side during shipping. I think the packing tape gave way. All parts were intact and nothing was damaged so just FYI. I'm now going to buy another one of these for the back yard. I was going to transport this one in and out rather than spend the money since it's (I'm hoping) not a life-long need, but while it's so easy to fold and move, it is pretty heavyweight (42") so it'd be a bit of a chore for me to do often. She's never been a jumper, especially not now, and I don't leave her alone outside so I could easily go with a lower height that's less expensive and more portable (keep in the shade) for the yard.jacy

I like Midwest products as the metal seems to be stronger and last longer than other brands. I have the original ex-pen I bought around 1995 – it's survived 50+ large dogs. I prefer them to crates as the dogs have more room to move around, yet they are easily configured to a smaller shape when potty training. They easier to clean than crates. They fold flat and I can store them next to a fridge or behind a furnace. They work indoors/out and are great mobile containment. For dogs living in fenceless areas (condos) ex-pens can be linked using carabiners/bolt snaps (i.e., dog leash clips) for fencing moveable for mowing/snow removal. They are great for patio surrounds. You can buy metal tops for if a dog needs more containment, but most won't if using a tall enough ex-pen. I've also bought just the metal or plastic crate pans to put under the ex-pen if needed. To keep the ex-pen from falling or being moved if I have a rambunctious pup I bungee the corners to furniture or door knobs.HannahB

I ordered several of these to use as barriers to prevent my young Border Collie from running through the mud in our back yard after it rains. I set them up just off the patio several feet to allow him some space in the grass without giving him free reign of the whole yard to run through. They are very easy to set up, take down, and store! The quality is excellent – the panels are very sturdy, the clips are easy to use, and the pins to anchor them in the ground are a great length and weight. I could not be happier with this purchase! I needed a light weight, yet stable gate that I can take with me to set up visiting family. I also use it to keep my Beagle off certain expensive rugs at home . She does not knock it over. I can use in bedroom doorway and keep door open , block off kitchen or even a hallway . Its well made I have faith it will last for years . These are very high quality durable and useful gates. There are tiny rubber pads under so you know which side to grab after putting away and the ease of the hinges are excellent. They are heavy enough to let the pet know it's stable and it's not a easy move with a nose plus the size and amount of panels make the setting of your area customized to the fit. I actually will buy more so I can use them out on the patio. Our dog understands boundaries and seems satisfied to see us until the entry is opened. I bought one brown which is a nice dark walnut color brown and a white one which both have a nice what I would describe as an enameled type gloss finish for protective wear. You won't be disappointed however if you're looking for a stoppage barrier this is simply a sturdy boundary maker so you would need a secured gate or kennel for that.JJ

This kennel is a must have especially if you have an energetic puppy like I do. We use it when she gets overstimulated from playing. It’s a nice safe retreat for her. We have a powerfully built 40 pound mutt who can muscle her way out of her old crate by popping the single latched door open. We had to add an extra clip to the door to keep her in the crate, which is a pain getting the clip on and off to let her in and out. She can’t gorse the door on this crate open due to the double latches AND the extra “hook” on the tip that holds the latches in place. My little bulldozer can’t open this crate by force and go counter surfing, much to her dismay.TKettle

Excellent opening size for our pet who is 18 lbs. I purchased the Medium opening. Our sliding door is a custom height of 12 FT, not a normal height, so using the extension included with the patio panel still doesn’t reach the top of the sliding door, which of course is not the problem of the manufacturer of this product. We remedied the problem by using and cutting to size a disposable hard foam cooler, fitted with a foam edge window and door sealer in order to eliminate cool and hot air from coming in and out. It’s not perfect, but works for our pet and for our use.Grace

I currently own 2 doggy door slider inserts from a competitor brand. I got this PetSafe insert to replace one of my inserts that is worn out, and I am so glad I did! At first glance you can see that the PetSafe is far superior to my competitor door. Upon quick exploration, I could feel that the PetSafe door was much better quality. The PetSafe door itself is more substantial and heavy duty just off the bat. I like that spring-loaded panel at the top of the door is taller (than my competitor brand) so that it can accommodate more sizes of sliders. I have multiple different heights of sliders at my house so that gives me more options of doors for me to place the insert in. This is beneficial to me when I have a party for example because I can give my dogs indoor/outdoor access to a secluded part of my house when young children are over. The second part I really like is the extra security with the locking panel to close the doggy door. Whereas my competitor version only has a plastic lock that could easily be broken into by potential intruders, the PetSafe has a very secure metal pin lock. Third, I appreciate that this insert has a slight tint to it. My competitor version does not. When I open the doggy door in the early morning in my bedroom I "hook" my curtains around my original slider handle for my dogs to access the door and I go back to sleep. The tinting on this insert is at least some attempt to block out the daylight. Finally, I like that they include some weather striping to help combat some unwanted drafts. Although I would recommend to combo the weather stripping provided with foam weather stripping to really complete the seal. Overall, I highly recommend this PetSafe doggy door insert, their attention to detail is prevalent making their door superior to competitors.MamaBear34

I'm giving it three stars because it is working but for the price, I expected a higher-quality item. In some ways this unit is too thin for my patio door track and is floppy, and in other ways – specifically the attachment brackets and the door "latch" – it is too wide. I had to come up with another way to fix the panel in place, then insert foam tape because it kept flapping when the door was used or the wind blew too hard, and then buy separate security bars for the patio door. Not ideal. And I also plan that I will need to remove it if I leave for an extended period of time, as this thing is a serious security vulnerability in the home's perimeter now…not that most adults don't already fit through an extra large pet door opening. I wish this had a full closure panel – aluminum, hinged. Maybe I should have just made something custom since I can't cut a hole in the wall of my rental house for an electronic security dog door.Julie D

Easy enough to install, but their use of nylon bolts is a downside. I understand it is so you can cut the excess away. But it probably wouldn't have cost any more (possibly a tiny bit more) to engineer the door to use metal hardware so it wouldn't strip as easily. The other issue I have is the "security" snap on door. Because it's snap on and not slid in or lockable, both my dogs have been able to push it off from the outside in. And the door is XL so it's big enough for a person to crawl through, so there is absolutely no security from a person entering standpoint. Other than that, the door works perfectly well for letting the dogs in and out independently, and keeping the heat/cool outside.Chefblue

This was dribbling enough water into my utility room during storms that I had to disassemble it to figure out where it was leaking. I couldn't find exactly where it was letting water in, so once I got it reassembled, I caulked the heck out of it and it seems to be okay for now. Taking it apart and reinstalling it was a major hassle. Most of the nylon screws either broke or wouldn't fit all the way back through, after numerous attempts. Seems to be poorly engineered. And the door where it was leaking isn't even facing in the usual direction of the wind/rain, so I don't know why it leaked so badly.TS777

Sadly i bought this item before reading the reviews (totally my fault).They are super flimsy, steep for any animal to go up or down, and small. I would maybe buy this product from a 5 below. Do not waste your money on these, especially since you will have to pay the return shipping fee to send them back Again, my fault for not looking more into them so i will suck it up and pay. hope this helps anyone thinking about buying these! I love the 4 steps, just the height that was needed, and the soft material, but after about 4 months the steps started to sink. And she has a small approx. 18lb dog. Maybe the step should have a hard material for the base and then fabric on top.Alecia

Thought we would be getting foam as described but when we finally got it, it was cardboard cut-out inserted into the zip covers. How disappointing and disgusting is that – to ship a cardboard cut-out and still feel ok to charge that price. If I could rate it a 0 or negative, I would.Isa

The crate had obviously been used and returned. The metal was rusted in places and the plastic bottom tray was dirty. When I decided to return it, It was a challenge to get it back in the box. When I took it back to the store, I asked about a discount and received 15% off (the tax). I had previously bought one that was marked down by 50% because the box was damaged. I was quite disappointed in the whole experience. Apparently the merchandise was supposed to be checked if the box was damaged and that wasn’t done in this case.Janice

I've owned dogs for the last 40 years. I've used MidWest wire crates for my last 4 dogs. This iCrate didn't disappoint. It's sturdy and and easy to put up and take down. I use them when I travel with my dogs too. My dogs only use their crates for sleeping in at night or napping in during the day. During the day, their crate doors are left open. I close the dogs in at night. I don't have an issue with my dogs trying to escape from their crates, so I can't speak to whether or not this would be sturdy enough for a dog that's determined to get out of their crate. These crates are more than sturdy enough for my miniature Schnauzer, Havanese, and Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. All three of my dogs love their MidWest iCrates, as did my previous dog! They go in them voluntarily and when told to "crate up". My only concern with the current crate I ordered is that that one of the latches isn't lined up quite right so it's a bit tight when closing the crate door. I bent it slightly and it works much better. I haven't had that issue with any of the previous MidWest crates I've used. I'm a MidWest crate fan.Eddie09

We bought this in April 2022 for our Rhodesian Ridgeback mix puppy. He was weeks old when we rescued him. He was a Parvo pup and barely survived, so rest and his own quiet space was highly recommended for recovery. We first used the divider which was great. However, as he grew, so did his strength. It definitely is not strong enough for large dogs. Even for short amounts of time. At the moment he is 6 months and 60 pounds. Thankfully he did not get out nor hurt himself! I wish I could share photos of how bent up this crate is and the cracked floor liner. IWifeMomLove

The product is basically as it is described. My puppy is a little rambunctious, so she wouldn't stop pulling them around and trying to eat the grass off. She is 4 months old and very energetic. She was initially trained on potty pads, but we were looking for a segue into training her to go outside. It didn't really work for us. I know nothing about dog training, but I would recommend starting a puppy on them day 1. Good product though. I'll be looking for alternative uses.crishep_7

I ordered a LARGE for my PUGGLE and he barely can fit on it. Definitely not even close to true to size. And since i've started using this the scent of urine has been obnoxious and potent and i clean it daily with pet lysol spray and hot water. Honestly id rather let my dog pee on the floors and clean it up daily rather than use this "indoor restroom". Extremely dissatisfied.Lady J

This is a purchase that I can conclude as a lesson learnt. I purchased this product because it was smaller than my other pet unit which allowed it for portability when traveling. The turf itself is okay quality, easy to clean and drains correctly. However, the middle draining tray is not designed at all to work at all. The urine just collects on top of the drain tray because the holes and bumps aren't in a functional area and it barely drains to the lower tray. It is made from a texture that soaks up the urine instead of allowing it to flow off and threw, therefore it collects oder, collects urine that won't wash/scrub off, it can't be cleaned properly and all that waste causes the material to break down. When I say break down, I mean in ever sense. It starts to break off in pieces. Every time I clean the product, more peices fall off and it gets smaller and smaller. Basically, this product does not work. I learned that I should stick with what works and not take chances of cheaper off brand products. Even though the size of my other potty unit is less portable, it actually works! (If it's okay to say, I only trust the AKC Official Potty Patch, which is superior in every way to this product.)HeathersLasVegas

The steps are nice and wide. Even my dachshund can climb up them. I like how they fold so I can take them with us. The only thing that I would say not extremely happy with is the color is almost a demon blue grey they do not match more home at all.Amy

I bought it for my old dog's house, I put a sheepskin in there but it still needed more heat, This worked perfectly in our outdoor dog house. At -15°C the inside of the house was 0°C. We mounted it on the ceiling which was at a 75° angle and it worked perfectly. This heater on Low gets very hot to the touch. I would not mount it on the side of a dog house where a dog could fall asleep on it. I bought a remote digital thermometer so I could monitor the temperature in there. It gave me such peace of mind knowing my old girl was warm and safe. PS, use sheepskins in the dog's house, the skin part prevents moisture from passing through into their bodies!LHunt

I bought this product at the start of winter last year. I have a dog house for my 18yo feral cat outside. She has a heating pad she sleeps on but I added this to the back of the house. She's so happy, and so far it is on it's 2nd year and just fine. Have to keep on low for small space. The High feature is too high.FeralCats

We love this box!! Our red bone blue tic whom weight 95 lbs fits perfect in it and out two gsp fit together in the other side!! Instructions were good but brief, missing some smaller details on placement of blocks, also short you about 6 pieces of wood that need to be cut making the process a little confusing. Also had to bend the tabs for the front door to fit on the wood frame since they were bent inward. The convenience of the carrier is that you can install caster wheels and it has the handles to pull around the carrier; two excellent features for mobility. Eazy to put together, however the locking tabs that hold the top and bottom together is not to secure enough; I purchased and secured with screws and bolts for peace of mind. Needed three of these to fit my small hatchback. Only cage that would fit both my vehicle and largest dog. Rather tricky to assemble. I inhanced the safety by using zip ties to help hold the top and bottom together. Would have liked the option of opening the door from either side. My wife bought one for our puppy. The mechanism they use to allow the panels to rotate does not work properly. They are to tight and require too much force to open/close the panels. We were as careful as possible and held the panels as close to the ‘hinge joints as possible. All to no avail…one of the panels broke before we could even get it set up completely. On the plus side… North States makes it VERY easy to buy replacement panels… 🙁bobbysox27

Pen was good but the section connectors were very difficult to adjust. Have to pull up then turn – but usually did not turn. I had to punch them to straighten them out. Otherwise quality was excellent and great length.JGPH

Sturdy construction. Flexibility of removing panels is great! Modular and holds shape, though the connectors between panels are a bit stiff. Not easily knocked over. Worthless. Hooks would not stick. Tried metal cup hooks. The elastic loops are too stretchy to provide tension. My 9.5 # dog was under it in less than a a few hours. She also tore the mesh slightly.megr550

It seemed like an amazing idea! Put it together, dog used it fine and everyone was happy! Then realized the drain doesn't work very well, and left the grass flooded. Had to pull the grass up in order for the drain to drain. Then, after about the 4th or 5th use, the tray fell through. My dog is smaller than a lab, right around our just less than 40lbs. She doesn't like stepping on flooded grass or using it when it's not stable and falls through the middle. Please reinforce the base. Contacted customer service to see if there's anything to fix these issues.Mitch036

Unfortunately there are no guidelines on how to set up the hose system in the premium so now I have a premium potty that I only use basically. When I tried my hose water went everywhere. Tried to get support but still waiting for someone to return my email. Such a shame. The pipe that leads the overflow away also leaks. Such a great idea but cheap make. I tried for six weeks to train my dog to use this. He HATES it. I bought and tried to cancel a $43 grass mat which I placed next to this and he was fine using IT. But despite a few successes manipulated with treats and the subsequent realization that this product will reek of urine despite the marketing BS, my dog only relented to using it under duress. I would never recommend this. I wasted $300 myself, don't do the same. I spoke to no fewer than seven people who'd done the same. This marketer is definitely cherry picking their metrics.Lara H

Very pleased. The table is secure, wobble-free and was fairly priced (on sale). The only changes I could wish for are 1) a canvas carry bag, and 2) a longer horizontal end of the restraint arm so it could have two holes or swivels. For squirmy dogs I prefer to have a choice of either a fore or rear loop so that the loop in use is not on the end I am working. Still, for the price this is a great little portable table. I think it will last much (!) longer than the cheap riveted one I tried from another online South-American- jungle- named retailer.Valued C.
