The cover was just as I expected. Light weight, durable and easy to care for. The oy recommendation I can .American is to add velcro/hook&loop fasteners to keep the top of the cover in place. I have found over the years that animals naturally respond favorably to a darkened environment. They are more relaxed and calm. Babies in a crate with natural, artificial, even greatly reduced lighting remain alert, peering into the darkness. I've owned dogs for the last 40 years. I've used MidWest wire crates for my last 4 dogs. This iCrate didn't disappoint. It's sturdy and and easy to put up and take down. I use them when I travel with my dogs too. My dogs only use their crates for sleeping in at night or napping in during the day. During the day, their crate doors are left open. I close the dogs in at night. I don't have an issue with my dogs trying to escape from their crates, so I can't speak to whether or not this would be sturdy enough for a dog that's determined to get out of their crate. These crates are more than sturdy enough for my miniature Schnauzer, Havanese, and Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. All three of my dogs love their MidWest iCrates, as did my previous dog! They go in them voluntarily and when told to "crate up". My only concern with the current crate I ordered is that that one of the latches isn't lined up quite right so it's a bit tight when closing the crate door. I bent it slightly and it works much better. I haven't had that issue with any of the previous MidWest crates I've used. I'm a MidWest crate fan.Eddie09

He was a Parvo pup and barely survived, so rest and his own quiet space was highly recommended for recovery. We first used the divider which was great. However, as he grew, so did his strength. I almost did not purchase this crate due to the multiple bad reviews. Glqd I purchased it qnyway. Other than the people who recieved damaged or warped crates, I'm not sure why there are so many reviews claiming it is difficult to assemble. I'm 4'11", 90 lbs, had 3 kids under 5 in the same room, and I assembled it alone without any real difficulties. The aforementioned children are in one of the review photos to show the enormity of the crate. The 9 month old Great Dane is in the other photo. Luckily for me, besides a slightly warped top piece, none of my pieces were bent, warped, or broken. Took about 30-40 minutes to assemble. The crate had obviously been used and returned. The metal was rusted in places and the plastic bottom tray was dirty. When I decided to return it, It was a challenge to get it back in the box. When I took it back to the store, I asked about a discount and received 15% off (the tax). I had previously bought one that was marked down by 50% because the box was damaged. I did some research on the Variocage dog crate. I recall they crash tested it for all 3 types of crashes. It showed several of the straps breaking, and I thought that was a bad sign. But according to info from a video posted below, the straps are only designed to keep the crate oriented in the rear of your car prior to the collision, after that the straps can break, but the crate is designed to protect effectively. The angled part of the crate abutting the rear seat disperses the force of a rear end collision over the largest surface as opposed to a square regular crate which contacts the rear seat at the point of its corner. The corners of the crate where the dog doors are (I bought a 2 dog medium crate) are blunted- that is to conform to the crumple zone of the back of your car in case of rollover- thus creating its own crumple zone. Lastly the telescoping bars allow force to be absorbed, but still protect your dog inside. The Swedish designers have outdone themselves, The cost is around $1,100 but you get what you invest in. If your goal is to get one of the safest crates for your dog, Variocrate ranks among the top 3 in my research. I picked it over the other choices because it fit into the rear of my vehicle the best. I had very good assistance before purchasing regarding size — of my dogs and of my car–and ended up with a Large Double for two English Labradors. It's a good size for them and fits just perfectly in my Subaru Outback. I found the assembly not too difficult (the video on the website helps to supplement the paper instruction sheet). The dogs have plenty of room but the space is smaller than what they are used to, so I left it set up in the house for several days so they could practice going in and out. They both seem very comfortable riding in it, and I LOVE having them safely contained — especially when they are wet (and/or muddy) from swimming. I like the Variocage products. I have the Variogate and divider In our other car. However, positioning some components to get proper bolt alignments was very challenging on this assembly. One side flange of the rear lower panel was so far out of alignment that it had to be bent to fit. Other components required clamps to achieve alignment for bolts. If I had time to wait for replacement parts, I know that they would have been gladly provided. Since I was so far along with assembly, I decided to soldier on. After reading all of the other reviews I thought for sure that my escape artist husky would not be able to get out of this. And boy was I wrong, it took her a total of about 10 minutes to figure out how to pick the locks and let herself out. I had to wrap a big steel chain with a pad lock on it to prevent it from being opened. For the price, save your money for a better kennel thats actually going to do the job as advertised. Love it. My daughter has a golden that has eaten through 1 wire kennel and 2 air plane Kennels. Hes not getting through this one. Haha. I would have liked the top tray where the dog sleeps to have been solid. The wire slots let the paw slip through. Other than that perfect kennel.carljo_56

First a foremost, I was really upset that I had to shell out over a hundred bucks for a dog cage. But since we have a brute escape artist that kept destroying her old kennel and hurting herself during the process. With this kennel, it has stopped all escapes, no signs of giving or stress. She's made it her home even when she doesn't need to be there.it comes with removable caster wheels for easy relocation, or take them off and leave it stationary while cutting a few inches off the overall height,The door is easily removable and attaches back on in a matter of a few seconds. We were worried about the meshed ground and her getting her toes caught in it, but I comes with a removable tray that's meant for the bottom, but we placed it over and that's her floor. The tree is just a tad under 5 foot. Not a problem for our little living room. The LED lights can be very bright–but you can unplug the LED lights! It still has 8 different light mod's even with the LED's unpluged. The longer branches on the bottom will not hold heavy ornaments. Light weight ornaments and garland is fine. It really is pretty even with out ornaments. The fiber optics make it a very colorful tree, even in the day time. The LED's are to brite for our liking. Not a problem for us we just unpluged them! Hey it's a 60 dollar tree. We are happy with it. You will have to fold down all of the branches they are not hinged like some of the higher dollar trees. It filled out nice! Poor Quality, for the price of this crate I expected it to be easily put together. I had to drill new holes because they didn’t line up. The latches interfered with the closing of the door. The door was not centered correctly and required lifting to shut properly. Arrived bend.Avgjoe

This kennel looks great in your home. It’s much more decorative than a traditional crate. And for the price of why not? Well that’s easy. It’s not as functional as a traditional kennel. I read reviews before buying this, and a lot of those reviews stated that their dogs tore this kennel apart. But I thought my dog shouldn’t have a problem with that because she is crate trained. As a matter of fact she went into her old kennel willingly without anyone asking all of the time. It was her safe space I think. Never tried to break out. But the thing with this kennel is the material that it is made out of is weak and if you’re a pitbull, very soft. My dog chewed the bars out with ease and the fake wood was like bubblegum to her. I love this kennel because of the way it looks in my room but for how strong it is NOT, it is incredibly over priced.BrianaL02

It is a thin type of material. The sides and such are put together with plastic screws, not metal. A big minus for me was the bottom for the crate. I am using to created train a puppy, I was hoping it had a pan like the metal crates with sides to catch urine. Instead it is just a flat piece that fits inside, leaving gaps around the edges. This crate is great for a dog that enjoys being kenneled. The walls are held together with eight plastic screws and the whole thing can be lifted easily by one adult… couldn't be more than 50lbs. The look and feel really isn't that bad… though its obviously the crate is not made of wood. Visually better than the hard-sided crate we had before. We have a powerfully built 40 pound mutt who can muscle her way out of her old crate by popping the single latched door open. We had to add an extra clip to the door to keep her in the crate, which is a pain getting the clip on and off to let her in and out. She can’t gorse the door on this crate open due to the double latches AND the extra “hook” on the tip that holds the latches in place. My little bulldozer can’t open this crate by force and go counter surfing, much to her dismay.TKettle

If you are needing to purchase a new dog crate, this is the brand and model I highly recommend. Midwest had several levels of crates but I have found that you cannot go wrong purchasing the Lifestage's model. They are solidly made and last forever. I always purchase the double door crates. They have cheaper models & more expensive ones too. I would not recommend their icrate as they are cheaper but they are also not had solidly made as the Lifestage's. Spend the extra $10-$15 and purchase the Life Stages model. It is well worth the money. I have had great success purchasing there crates at Petco.com. I always receive my items within a couple of days. It is also nice when you have a Petco store nearby where you live. If you have any issues with the merchandise you received, they have always been very accommodating and made sure they did whatever was necessary to correct the problem, return the merchandise at a full refund and/or replaced the item. I have been very happy with Petco and the merchandise I have purchased!!!Shari L
I just received this crate a couple of days ago for my Saint Bernard mix pup. The size is perfect and he has tons of room to grow in it. The doors latch nicely and the crate is very sturdy. We received this very fast! The only downfall I had with this purchase was that when we removed it from the box and set it up, there was a decent sized crack (all the way through) on the tray. I won't be replacing the tray as I've spent enough on this crate. And fortunately for me, my 5 month old pup doesn't have accidents in his crate, but I'm sure if others received this, they would not be happy.tsjackie
I had been looking at the end table style crates thinking that would look nicer and less bulky then the 4' x 4' X-pen I have in my living room. But, comfort is the main criteria and I wanted my Whippets to feel they could stand and dig through a deep pile of bedding, so I went with this crate. I like to rearrange the furniture so I bought the double door style to keep my options open. For my two Whippets I bought the 42" x 28" size which has been more then enough room for them to lay side by side or end to end. It arrives flat, but you just fold out the sides and it is ready to go. It came with a handle so it could be 'portable', but at this size it is heavy and I don't plan to take it anywhere, so I didn't attach that. I left the X-Pen up for them while they made the transition, but they hopped into the new crate the minute I put it up and haven't been back in the X-Pen (even though it still has more bedding in it). The black wire instantly looked better then the metal of the X-Pen and I'm staining a piece of wood I put trim molding around for the top (I had it cut to size at Home Depot) so I'll have an end table style look, but the height and comfort the pups want for their 'cave.' Very happy and buying a second one to have at the office for the days they come to work with me. Both crates and the wood top are costing less then the end table style crate, so all three of us are happy!psh1

At the time of order, I didn't see anywhere in the product description if assembly was required or not. So, I assumed I'd have to spend hours putting the crate together. When I took it out of the box, I was shocked that it came out all together. I was *ecstatic* when I realized it is, in fact, a COLLAPSIBLE crate! The cost was under $90 for an enormous crate (for my friend's Pit Bull who just had surgery) that I didn't even have to assemble! I think they would sell more of these if the word "collapsible" was included in the product title. It was so easy to set up!!! The only con I had is because it would be almost impossible for one person to move the crate around with a large dog inside. It would be nice if it came with wheel attachments (or even as an add-on). The metal does not appear to be all that sturdy, but my 70 lb. 5 mo. old mastiff/lab/weimaraner mix is doing well with this crate. She has room to move around and seems content when she is in there. I think a large, rather unruly dog might be a problem in this, but then, they would be a problem anywhere (they have torn down my fences and gone through 3' x 5' plate glass windows, bleeding, smiling and happy all the while.) I think the key would be that the very large, powerful dog was accustomed to being in a crate before they were put into this one and then they should be fine. Very easy setup, folds right up, too. Greate replacement for wire crates in our home. Sturdy, attractive and easy to assemble. Remember that the dimensions are outside, not inside, making the interior slightly smaller. With four Aussies that get crated nightly, the two smaller dogs are using these. I will get the large for the next two. Just found out that they are easy to clean, too. One of the reasons I selected this product is for the door that goes both in and out. My dogs have high value for their crates and will nap inside during the day on their own but I didn't want the door opening outward when not in use. However, there is little clearance on the door, so bedding must be removed when positioning the door inside. I will buy again, but larger.Nancy
The wood had a few minor flaws that fortunately will be on the inside of the crate. I wish the door was reversible. Most pet crates have the option of setting the door to open right or left. The door also tends to swing inward when you're trying open it. I will probably add some kind of door pull to swing door outward when opening. The clear plastic shield on the door was un-expected. Don't know if I will like it or not or if it's necessary for structural integrity if I remove it. Fortunately, my dog is not a chewer. It seems that it's just something else to clean and disinfect – like your sliding glass door. All in all, it's a nice piece of furniture and a huge improvement over the big plastic kennels.SJ
This crate was easy to assemble and arrived quickly. I have the medium size and it makes a perfect end table. I noticed one review where the owner's puppy had scratched the door and she had to refinish it and put plexiglass on to prevent it happening again. The manufacturer has addressed this issue and mine arrived with plexi on the inside of the front door. No worries as there is still adequate ventilation on the sides and back. My pooch isn't a scratcher but I'll probably leave it there. Right now, I have the door on the inside of the crate so he can get used to it and he's taking a snooze from time to time. If I need to close the door, I'll remove the bed, swing the door out, replace the bed, add the dog, and close the door. Lots of steps but hardly a big deal.PatS

My main complaint is that there is no handle or anything to assist in carrying / transporting the crate when folded; you have to hold it by the small spacing inbetween the wiring. An XXL crate is awkward enough to carry as-is without your hands constantly getting pinched, & my wife sprained her finger pretty severely while trying to get it down the stairs from our third-story apartment due to her having to essentially wedge it between three layers of metal wiring. If this were considered the crate would have no issues, but as-is we will be swapping it for another brand with an included handle.Raven R

After one night we realized that this crate was so much quieter than the one we had at home that I decided to take this one home. This is our first dog crate! It seems great so far. My dog likes it! He appears nice and relaxed in it. It does not come with a crate bed, you will have to purchase that separately if you want it. Medium is the Perfect size for my 18 lb mini poodle mix. He can walk right in it, stand up, turn around and stretch out as he lays down easily. I wanted a soft crate with a top opening for my puppy that will be arriving in mid July. As a pet sitter, I've seen my clients crates and as good as they were, this one is that much better. It's good looking, has openings on three sides and the top plus has foldable shades on all openings. It comes with a sherpa inside mat that's not plush by any means but does the job. I called customer service when I ordered and they helped me pick the right size and told me that if I wasn't happy when I received it to let them know and they'd pick up the original and ship me the new size. Well, it arrived quickly and and i was informed every step of the way. I think the size will be perfect but I'm confident that when my girl arrives, if needed, this company will honor their commitment and switch sizes. I'm really happy with my purchase. Fabulous overall experience. Product was received in a timely manner, well packed, and the product itself is the best! There are too many junky soft-sided crates on the market. This one is sturdy, putting it together is a snap, and the pad inside can be replaced with all kinds of options when needed. We generally replace a pad on the inside about once a year just to keep them fresh. Our dogs actually like the blue ‘cooling’pads more than big fluffy pads anyway, but they are Shelties with a lot of hair. The crate itself is just superior and I have just ordered a second one for another pup arriving soon. Really, I can’t say enough good things about this crate. If your pup is a chewer you might consider a hard crate temporarily till they move out of the chewing phase but there isn’t much to chew on in these crates anyway as the canvas outer shell is very tight doesn’t give much leeway to chew. And our current 6 month old Sheltie goes in to the crate to lay down completely on his own – it’s his own little abode and he is content.Joy F.
Fell apart roughly a year after purchase. The plastic pieces / connectors for the frame literally hardened and crumbled. The crate was never used to travel anywhere either. It simply sat in a carpeted bedroom. I was fortunate my dog was not in the crate at the time so that he wasn't injured. I reached out to support and sat here since April. Yes since APRIL (so 6 months), trying to get 2 replacement pieces of plastic, which I have been told are backordered and that I'll hear when they arrive. Today they reached out to me and are telling me I need to pay nearly $100 for the s2 piece of plastic, so half the cost of the entire crate. If I had known that I would have simply contested the charges for this piece of junk and bought another crate from somebody else who won't keep me sitting here. I've had this for 2 years and been able to use it less than half the time. Get a better made crate from literally anybody else.Aiden
